Ohhhh, these reviews are BAD. Guess Guillermo Del Toro will have the studios begging for him now.

Bad movie and being sandwiched between Shazam and Endgame. Wonder how that will turn out.

No, all this is going to do is kill it as any sort of possible franchise at all. Hellboy won't be touched again for at least another decade, if ever.
Unless it maraculously pulls a Transformers/Venom despite the low scores, but being wedged between Shazaam and Avengers… that's not going to happen.

If they weren't begging for him after Pan's Labyrinth I don't think they'll be begging for him now.
Which means that Monster TV show will still be in development hell.

I really wish that they'd kept the animated film series going or even a television series using that artstyle. That was so much better suited to the comic than what we eventually got.

Won free IMAX tickets again, so going to see it tonight. I'll let y'all know what I thought later.
Edit:
Okay, just got back from seeing it with my fellow nerdy friend. My thoughts:
The guy playing him did an okay job, not great. On a few occasions he slurred his speech so bad I literally had no idea what he was saying. Luckily he was about the only character in it with that problem. Most everyone else did a fine job with their performance, even Milla Jovovich affecting a British accent even though as far as I'm aware that's not her natural accent.
The humor was sparse, a lot of jokes just hitting too softly to make me laugh out loud (mainly the one-liners from the trailer, those didn't land well) so there wasn't a lot of fun to be had there.
The fighting scenes were really where the movie shone, and they didn't skimp on the gore at all. Now, that's not to say they didn't have problems, because they had some MAJOR issues, primarily the frequent jarring jump cuts which, I understand using them in scenes where it's a person vs. another person but in this CGI fest, there should be NO REASON why they need to resort to that. I seriously needed to close my eyes numerous times because I was so dizzy from the frequent jump cuts, and what made things worse was that many times the characters would be VERY close to the screen so they're right in your face and it made things difficult to tell what was going on because they blended together a lot (the lighting wasn't great either). But in the scenes where things were shown clearly, and in a wide-open space, those were some of the best parts of the movie.
The story really felt proud of itself when really, it's all about his destiny as the bringer of the apocalypse just like the original Del Toro version, only it was slapping you in the face with it every five minutes. In fact the first half of the movie felt like a couple of different 'monster of the week' episodes of a TV series before it all started to coalesce, if you can call it that. It jumped around a LOT and it was hard to understand the relationship Hellboy had with the general public and media. The new characters were a refreshing addition compared to Liz and Abe Sapien from the original two films and despite all the issues, I'd like to see a follow-up to this with a better script and development (which saddens me because I love a lot of the films directed by Neil Marshall).Does it deserve a 15% on rottentomatoes? I don't think so, I'd give it more like a 30-35%. Still not great, or even 'good' but I don't regret seeing it. Definitely could have and should have been better but I think it had enough going for it that it deserves to be continued and not scrapped and rebooted again.

I could see someone resurrecting it on streaming for a series or something.
I don't think Monster TV show is even in development hell, it's out of development. Apparently it's the manga creator that keeps holding things up though.

I didn't think there were any new developments so this would be new.

Just finished watching it… Complete waste of money and time. I wanted a Hellboy movie, not a Deadpoll ripoff.

Oh, it wasn't even a Deadpool ripoff, that's being overly generous. It was just trying to be a cool action flick but the story wasn't strong enough to really justify all the CGI action. I definitely am glad I didn't have to pay to see it (and honestly, we didn't even have to show our free passes since the ticket taker wasn't standing in the lobby so we probably could have sneaked in without incident anyway; there were maybe 10 people in that large IMAX theater at that showing so that really tells you something about how little they expected people to care about that movie) but I am glad I satisfied my curiosity. I haven't seen the other two in such a long time I can't even remember how I felt about them for comparison. I just thought the project had enough potential it deserves a better follow-up but I bet it's going to come in under-budget and not get a sequel.
