Chapter 920: For Love of Oden

@ all the people on here who told me Kaido would most definitely be fought at the end of this arc and was residing in Wano all along.
Hi. What's up.Unrelated, but page 7 is really confusing to me. What exactly is happening here? Am I reading it wrong or is there a weird sudden and unexplained time jump in his story?

I hope that Oda will give to us some cool Sanji design. Him in kimono, looking badass would be great but at same time maybe he will dress him differently than in Kimono so it would suit his fighting style better.
Also I am bit suprised we did not seen any reaction from Sanji when it comes to famine-hunger problem in Wano. Maybe he does not know yet ?
I imagine it would be used as extra motivator for him and his resolve to fight. Guy hates people being hungry and here, people all around are opressed and given poisonous food and leftovers.. All say it is Zoros arc but I see big role for Sanji to play and some strong emotional and fighting scenes for him.

It just shows reactions at different parts of the story. Which is saved for a big ass flashback most likely.

Hi. What's up.Hello to you too? Why do people keep thinking that the place that Kaido resides isn't a part of Wano Country? You think they just came to Wano just because? It's no different from how Big Mom's territory has several islands one can travel to, it's not that complicated…

They're reacting to a certain part of the story that Oda purposefully isn't sharing with us right now. Presumably that will be revealed once we get a proper flashback.

So, i did a little research and i found out this:
The island Onigashima where Kaidou resides has a very familiar look like the winter island that was shown everytime Kaidou appeared in the manga.

https://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/793/11

We can seee the "horn figure" in the background each time, the trees are similar to the ones from Wano, the weather is also a clue as it was said it is very unstable around Wano and we can see a couple of factories or whatever they are.
If i'm right about this that means Eustass Kidd is also there imprisoned, Scotch is there and even possibly X Drake.
Also, i found Tengu in a cover story that i forgotten about https://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/793

Perhaps she knew the secret behind transfering devil fruits to another user and stayed so she could die and give it to her daughter.
She could do that after they are safe. I mean if she died before transferring than she can't have sent her away from the burning castle and if she died after than smarter solution was get to safety than die. It's not like it break the story for me(she wanted to die with her husband) but I don't think I will find the reason for separating the children convincing.
Except if we are saying she forced her young daughter to eat her and didn't want Momo to see her forcing her daughter to do canibalism.
-
I don’t think the time fruit can stop Time. If it could then as the great Dio Brando said ZA… So Shanks showing up at Marineford isn’t related to stopping time. Therefore he most probably doesn’t have that fruit

Yeah I hope so two… For both cases.
Maybe we will see him being part of the fraction who will care about this problem. Maybe evenwith Killer and Shutenmaru together

I wonder what happened with Killer.. and with Faust. Hawkings will seems to be completely broken for some reason, maybe Kaido killed Faust and rest of Hawkings crew so he has no crew to go back to?
As for Killer he was hyped Supernova, smart one to boost, I guess he escaped but I have no idea if he is still working with Apoo(I dont think that Apoo is loyal to Kaido now..) ?
Then we also have Moria who had his entire crew killed by Kaido. I expect to see Moria and his flashback during this arc.
This should be most massive arc in One Piece and I see its pace as far faster and better than Whole Cake Island(which I liked a lot).

Well, I don't doubt lady was aware of some of the stuff we aren't. But it was just a random idea. Not sure I'd like time fruit to resurface again but, at the same time, making it just disappear, never to surface again, would be a little superficial for Oda.
-
Vegapunk has to be the new user of the time time no mi. How else would he have technology that is 500 years ahead of current technology.

Hi. What's up.It's pretty much 100% safe to assume Onigashima is an island in Wano. Actually, the fact Kaido would be specifically on an Wano island called Onigashima has been expected for a while since it is the name of the island where Momotaro fought the oni and the shape given for Kaido's residing place is exactly the same as the folkloric Onigashima (also notice the bonsai-like tree, exactly like the ones in, and only in, Wano).

Hi. What's up.You know a country can be more than just one island, right?
-
It just occurred to me Oda showed us Ace's fruit being found and used again in order to prepare us for someone finding and using the time fruit.
Also, other than Luffy, Tama is the only child in One Piece to have a DF(Momo's doesn't count coz its artificial).
-
I don't see how Vegapunk would make use of the time time fruit if travelling back in time is impossible.
-
Two weeks to contact Luffy Grand Fleet and attack Kaidou.
-
Two weeks in One Piece time could be three years in real time. I hope we will not spend them seeing what happens or does not happen in Wano.
I wouldn't mind it if we briefly switched to the Reverie to see what's going on in the rest of the world, but it's probably very unlikely – I don't think Oda has ever interrupted a major arc to give details about the narrative frame...
-

Use it to look in the future, not go there. I Imagine Oden's wife did the same, she didn't just send them at random in the future, she knew something.
-
@uniaka:

If she could see an individuals future timeline, then that would be pretty cool since that would mean she orchestrated everything or at least pushed things along.
-

I really don't think the fleet will be involved at all. At least from what we got so far.
If they were going to be asked to join the fight against Kaido, why were they not told at the end of Dressrosa? Kaido was already a target.
The narrator also said that the fleet would make a name of themselves before and that will lead to a big event. However, as we saw with the cover story, it does not seem that the amount of time for them to grow has passed.
On a more personal point: this will be the first arc where the Straw Hats are going to be together shinning as a group. Unless they are defeated unprecedentedly before the two weeks, this will be the fight that break their limits.
The plan to just take the commander's head may fail early which warrants a change in plans and the inclusion of the fleet. But I don't know, it just seems too soon still.
-
Excuse me if it's been said already, but I just want to point something out:
We were just shown the rarest devil fruit in the entire world of OP.
Logia and mythical zoan might be rare as categories, meaning that if you manage to find a DF, there's a very low chance of it being in one of those categories, but they work just like any other fruit: if their user dies, it respawns. This means that every few decades, maybe a couple of centuries if the fruit was consumed be a giant, it becomes available for consumption again.
That's not the case with the Toki-Toki fruit. Assuming that the fruit can't respawn as long as its user will appear later in the timeline (otherwise it could create a situation in which there are two users of the same ability), this means that over the past hundreds of years (assuming she was born around the void century.. it could be millenia), across eras and wars, the last time the fruit was available for consumption was… just before Toki ate it somewhere in ancient history. -
Toki reminds me of that episode of Futurama where Fry, Bender and Farnsworth were skipping time again and again.
-
If she could see an individuals future timeline, then that would be pretty cool since that would mean she orchestrated everything or at least pushed things along.
Yeah. And she let her beloved family in danger without even taking a single step to resolve the issue.. Maybe because she likes it that way
-
Yeah. And she let her beloved family in danger without even taking a single step to resolve the issue.. Maybe because she likes it that way
Like what? She sent Momo and group 20 years into the future, to let them escape, while also knowing it's their greatest chance at achieving their goals. Toki as a mother would not let anything happen to Hiyori either. This woman knew she was at her end, pretty respectable to me.
-
I think what they mean is that if Toki could see the future, she could have prevented Oden's and the clan's demise.
Which begs the question, why did she choose 20 years from now? I think it might be related as to why she did not send the other retainer and Hiyori to the future.
-

It could've just been not wanting to ruin the overall future? I mean, you're right that it is oddly specific. And achieving the dawn in her prophecy might've required a very specific future timelines and events to work. Kind of like Dr. Strange finding one possibility to defeat Thanos in the end.
-
Maybe she can only travel 20 years ahead each time? Although that is awfully contrived, I bet it has to do with the preparations she thought were needed to open the borders.
-
@K.:
Maybe she can only travel 20 years ahead each time?
Might be. Until we get more specific about the ins and outs of the time fruit, speculations will keep coming. I still keep my opinion that she has some type of future vision.
-
Among all the silhouetes, there is one retainer who kneel in front of Toki but isn't sent with Kinemon. Could he have been sent with Momo's sister at another time ?
Or maybe he's the Tengu, Hitetsu, who btw is taking care of a little girl. Yeah it could be :-)
-
Toki might have a reason for picking 20 years, or maybe it's completely random.
Either way, I lean towards her not being able to see the future, at least not in a traditional sense. Maybe it's related to Zunisha even.
-

I like the idea she comes from the void century and if that's the case it would be a shame she just died, lol. But maybe the reason why she stopped there is momo, besides de love she felt for Oden. Since Luffy is going to be the final saviour, they both have a deep friendship and he can listen to Zunisha… maybe Momo is the gift of the void century mom.

It would be weird for her to lie, so yea she's definitely dead. But that doesn't mean that we can't see her in flashbacks and such, even after this arc ends.
-
I have a question:
How did Toki's devil fruit power was still able to take effect keeping the samurais suspended in time for 20 years after she died?
Doesn't a devil fruit power get interrupted when the user loses consciousness? Like Sugar, DoFlamingo, Perospero… -

-
If not, her devil fruit is even more powerful than I thought if she can make all timelines simultaneous and see what happens at every point in time. Which would explain why she chose 20 years exactly, because she saw what Luffy could do before he was born.
-
I just went with the idea that she sent them into a portal. Aku-style.
-
This is easily one of my favorite cover pages ever.
The forward travel is a refreshing idea. It strengthens the concept of fate… that has been illustrated again and again in the story. I do hope it will only stay relevant within this arc, though.
-
I love the panel on page 7 with Bepo on the floor grabbing his belly from the diarrhea pains!!! Is that a dead guy on page 12?:wassat::wassat: top right panel? On another note, it finally makes sense why they did not understand DF and Den Den Mushis. It explains how they all got separated since they never knew how to travel, never have been outside of Wano so they would be so inexperienced. I've been trying to look at minute details to see if I can find something but I'm unable to find anything.
That Ashura Douji could be Shutenmaru. My connection being that he is based off of Shuten-doji, hence made the connection thru the name itself. After his defeat by Oden, maybe he turned good as well as the rest of the Ronin and helped build the city and grew fond of it and its citizens. Now with Kinemon mentioning that 5K force, the first thing that came to mind was SHGF. However in narrative, Oda stated they need to do something that would mark their presence. Now, I dont know if it'll be the incident at Wano that'll mark their presence and officially mark them or if something happens in between. But 2 weeks do not look like enough time for a big event for them and then return to Wano? With that being said, I believe they will play a part in this arc.
Cannot wait for Moria to come back in the picture! While arc wise they did poorly with him, design wise he was one of my faves in the Shichibukai. Aside that after seeing him in Chapter 0 hyped me up more cause it made it seem like he was such a bad ass in the past! With the whole defeat he was brought down to a fat and lazy bloke…BUT, I feel like after the fight with Luffy and after Marineford he got his big boy pants together and started planning something. He will be a key part in this arc, that's for sure.
I am glad that traveling backwards in time is a no no! Whew! I was really worried there. Now that's an interesting note, I'm pretty sure there is someone already that has it but I believe that user does not have the same knowledge that Toki had of it. That is a UNIQUE DF! In the sense that if she is from the distant past, that means that NO ONE has seen this fruit in action, except the few and exclusive ones around her. I even imagine there is even no record of it anywhere. Another thing that peeks my interest is that if 5 people were in front of Oden castle, how come only 4 made it to the current timeline? Did the other retainer stay? And lady Hiyori? Why was she not sent as well to the future? Did Toki know how to transfer DF powers and sacrificed herself after that prophecy and give it to Hiyori and Hiyori escaped to learn how to cultivate the powers of the fruit? But if so who and where is she?
I'm curious as to what Zoro will accomplish in this arc ( I'm not one of the train hype that this is his arc and etc. ) However I do believe he will also play an important role. What with him being compared to Ryuma and what not. I just hope they don't pull a " you are the chosen Ronin blah blah descendant of first shogun blah blah":getlost::getlost:. But enough for him to be praised as the best swordsman in there as well as making a full legend based on his acts. Overall I enjoyed the chapter!

Forced dramaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Am I the only one who thinks Ashura is probably one of the nine samurai of odens group?
I was watching Robin Hood recently and Robin Hood beats little John in a fight and then little john and everyone falls under him, idk I thought it might be similar, Oden beats Ashura and then Ashura joins his group and everyone else follows
-
A few months ago a friend of mine told me and a group of people about his sister killing herself. None of us knew his sister at all but we still got emotional, guess that must have been forced.
-
The fishy thing is that we already knew that Oden was dead, so I really don't get all these emotions…
It really seemed forced how they all suddenly started crying after one single fucking page of flashback
-
Yeah. And she let her beloved family in danger without even taking a single step to resolve the issue.. Maybe because she likes it that way
But she saved momonosuke and the samurais by sending them in future, and it's very likely that she did the same to her daughter.
Oden, based on how he was described this chapter, would not just run away, and he would want to stay behind to fight next to his people.
-

Yea, it should've been two pages of flashback _at least_.

I think it goes beyond on how Oden was murdered. They probably heard how Orochi managed to usurp the throne. We know that Orochi had boiled him alive, but we did not know that Oden's father was the Shogun.
I think that the reactions are about how Orochi manipulated Oden's father into sentencing Oden to death. And after the Shogun realized what he had done, and his honor was shamed, he committed suicide which led Orochi to take over. Or maybe Orochi killed him afterwards/before, impersonated the Shogun, etc.

What do you think is happening? I mean they explained it in the chapter already how the time travel affected them but you certainly don’t seem to care so what do you think is happening?
