Plowing through the RE Remake for the "whatever numbered" time.
You know it's kind of weird playing this after playing Zero and forgetting you can't simply discard stuff anywhere to make space. Secondly this game really makes me hope that the RE2 remake at the very least doesn't retain the fixed camera angles never particularly cared for that as it causes a lot moments of uninintentionally going through a wrong door or in rare cases not seeing an enemy until the come on screen.
That aside it's been kind of shaky due to forgetting how a lot of items are used and how some of the puzzles are solved….but hey at least I didn't let Richard die like I did when I originally played the game for the first time.

A few questions.
! -Did you find a use/way to access that door in One Concern West (deep in a dark room) that asks you present a White Ticket?
-Is there a way to save Royal on the moon?
-Any use for those key items that look like scraps of paper that you find on dead bodies of the tower teens scattered around the world?
! I finished the game too (and enjoyed it; currently working on 100%ing the maps) but there's a lot that feels…undone, somehow.

! -No, but a soldier in Mina's town's prison gave me a Soldier RSVP. Maybe that has something to do with it? I'm gonna be honest, I thought that was the door Royal was talking about during the split up to fire the rocket part.
-No. I legitimately lost sleep about that ;_;
-I read somewhere there's two hidden bosses so I think those are related to that?

Interesting… So we're pretty much in the same boat.
Still a lot to figure out, I guess!
After 60 hours (not including any time spent on my near rage inducing failures of the final boss) I finally beat Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Time to download Aegislash and play Pokken again.
Just finished up Celeste. Main game, anyways.
! Only did the first three B-sides and haven't touched the core yet (which I assume requires the crystal hearts).
! 2962 deaths, with over 500 of those being on the last level. I am dreading the B-side for that one, haha. Really loved the game. The narrative was small, but pretty touching. It actually makes me think of Getting Over It in the sense that it's a narrative about accomplishment in a difficult game.
! I loved the way that the last level incorporated most of the gimmicks in a clever fashion. It was a really good final test, and some of the last sections are pretty difficult. Out of all the gimmicks in the game, my favorite is definitely the goop in chapter 2 that you can boost through. I kind of wish it got to show up more, since I love the way it modifies the dash. My least favorite is definitely the wind, since the strong wind just slows down retries so much in the rooms where it's present, which doesn't feel great. Even so, the level it's in is still pretty challenging and enjoyable.
! In terms of small features, I love the way the game handles finding missing strawberries. The missing ones are shown in their relative places in terms of level progression, and whenever you pick up one you've already found, it fills in the spot in the progression on the pause menu, so it's generally pretty easy to know where you're supposed to be. Still, some of the maps are kind of non-linear, which defeats the purpose of that, but I haven't had too hard of a time finding what you're missing. Still, I'll probably be using a guide to collect the rest, since finding them isn't really the challenging part, anyways. Plus, the crystal hearts don't have any hints (though I've found most of them, anyways).
! I'll definitely be going for 100% on this thing, since the additional gameplay is its own reward. I might even start up another file of it on my auxiliary Switch profile. Really enjoyed this one!

! - That's one of the side quests. You want to speak with a soldier in Isilugar first.
! At first I thought that maybe depending on dialogue choices you make previoulsy, you might save him somehow but it appears this isn't working that way.
:(
! Loved this game, loved the characters, the gameplay, and the story is pretty damn good, mostly after completing the game, you complete the whole puzzle in your head and it's kinda fascinating. Agent balck past... Hash... Who really is this God they all worship. Also loved that Robin has to faced her own demons before the final battle !
! Also the humour, between the henchmen being hilarious and Mina's slow clap at one point haha. Good share of laugh before slowly going into tragedies...
! A game entirely made by one guy ! Congratulations Joakim Sandberg.
Highly recommended game. And Celeste is great too yeah, pure pleasure. Currently on The Red Strings Club, loving it. 2018 starts strongly.
! - That's one of the side quests. You want to speak with a soldier in Isilugar first.
- Unfortunatly… No. This is depressing as hell, and what's worst, the timing escape is THAT generous only for you to think there IS something to do, try, and only reach the conclusion that there is no way to save him. I felt bad. Really really bad. And right after killing Black !

And yeah, that's why I focused on 100%+ Iconoclasts before even touching Celeste. I knew that one would kept me away from Robin (my Wonder Girl!) too long hahaha.
Celeste spoilers:
! I was looking at some discussions and, welp, there's C-sides, which are shorter, but even harder than B-sides. Apparently, there's also golden strawberries if you no death a level, so goodbye 100%. I'm still impressed with how many challenges the game has and will definitely go through the C-sides til all my hair's gray and thin. I still need to do any of the B-sides after the first three, which are going to be painful. It's been a while since I've played a game this painful, yet engaging.

! World 4 B-side was hell. The difficulty curve is insane, though…kind of in a good way. Like the game keeps topping itself and forcing you to surprise yourself with how much better you can get.
! But lol yeah- bye-bye "true" 100% if it requires no death runs. I only managed a little over half of the Super Meat Boy iron man runs, with the rest being cosmically unfeasible with my base reflexes/concentration. And Celeste's worlds are even longer than SMB's, for the most part O_O

! The wind was such a pain, so I am definitely dreading 4 the most, haha. The curve is definitely real. Since I did B-3 first, I was relieved at how easy B-1 and B-2 were, but on the other hand that means the others are just going to get harder.
! It'll be really insane to see if anyone ever does a true 100% speedrun. I want to watch that run. No deathing without strawberries is one thing, but no deathing with all the collectibles makes me nervous to even think about. The TAS for this game will be a sight to behold for sure.

Attn Foolio: Truly 100%ing Celeste is all but impossible for normal humans. Sorry to have to report that :(
I've been reading the spoilers (which I don't think are spoilers). So far I've just been watching Nephy play. Hard to assess how hard it would actually be to complete individual stages without dying, especially since there's so much exploration, trial-and-error, and going for the strawberries. I actually wonder if you know where you're going and ignore everything else, how long the stages would really be. I'm sure it would be frustrating as hell but maybe doable?
World 1 is doable in like two minutes w/o detours, if you know what you're doing. That's admittedly not too long to have to maintain perfect play (or not even "perfect," since early on there's a lot of leeway and recovery opportunities so that a missed jump =/= death, necessarily), but later worlds are wayyyy longer with every screen representing a fairly significant challenge.
Guess I know what I'm attempting tonight :P
The levels in general get longer over the course of the game, and the speedrun for the longest level (original form) is about 14 minutes, with the average being more around 6-7 minutes. The B-sides and C-sides are fully linear, with the C-sides being a lot tougher, but also much shorter, so some deathless runs exist of those (usually around a minute of perfect play for those).
A note on the golden strawberry runs is that they unlock after beating the chapter 8 B-side, where you can start the challenge separately from the level, so if you want that 100%, it's not worth trying until you have that ready. They also don't count towards any achievements on systems where those are a thing, so they're purely swag.
My first focus is actually finishing the game first, finding all B-sides and getting all strawberries. Then I'll think about insane stuff like running this or going for deathless.
Not going to lie, the notion of something happening when you do deathless makes doing it extremely tempting. Much like how Cuphead roped me into S-rank.
Currently grinding rep in WoW full time. Battle for Azeroth pre-order snuck up on me.
Just completed Tales of Zestiria, so now I'm playing through Amnesia. Game honestly scares the crap out of me so it's hard for me to progress lol. Then as soon as I finish that I'm moving on to FFXII: The Zodiac Age.
I just beat the chapter 4 B-side, so I've got some catching up to do. This one only took 538 deaths, so I must be getting better at this game somehow.
If this game could benefit from one thing, it would be the inclusion of the binoculars as just a pause menu feature. With the longer rooms, especially the really challenging ones, it's easy to land on unsafe ground and have trouble figuring out what the hell to do in the split second that you get to do it. I guess it isn't too necessary in the main game, but the B-sides and C-sides could definitely use that, since they have longer and harder rooms to beat.
Admittedly I haven't tackled C-sides yet, but I actually dislike the binoculars and actively avoid using them!
There's something really raw about the thrill of blasting through a room you've never seen before on pure reflexes…when you manage it. There's a lot of that going on with the ch6 boss and most of ch7, which is weirdly middling in difficulty.
The trade-off, of course, are those murder rooms where you're only progressing a pixel or two farther each time and it kind of kills the pace...
I'm with CCC. It's extremely fun to rely on reflexes to react on something new, and when it does happen it makes one feel like the ultimate badass.
So far I've gotten past chapter 6 with everything collected. Still no B-sides and the like yet. There's something about this game where it's really hard to put down so far.
Re: chapter 6
! Overall, one thing that bothers me about the berry things is when they exist in levels with multiple paths. One of the reasons I'm not a fan of castlevanias is the whole back and forth, getting lost and not knowing when I'm going down the main path or a side path, so when that happens in this game it just stresses me and removes from the simple experience of platforming.
! But then, turns out no strawberries in this one! Which made me feel significantly better about just enjoying the excellent, excellent theme of the level. Which leads to my other point: I love how in a game that attracts people wanting to prove themselves, the story for the characters relates to a character wanting to prove herself as escapism from past issues. I also love how nicely the game deals with issues of mental health, including that bit about dealing with anxiety. Considering the game didn't even need to have story, the fact it was handled so lovingly and carefully leaves me happy.
! Also great in chapter 6: the crystal heart. So far these feel like the most interesting collectibles, and while the one in Chapter 4 was very lackluster (I want to solve things, not be required awareness of an easter egg from a different game), the combo of the one in Ch. 1 and Ch. 6 made me feel great when they got solved, despite having gotten some hints online.
Though…I guess having the binoculars as an option wouldn't be intrusive. If you still never had to use them.
Anyway, all I've got left is 7+8 B-side and all the C-sides.
Very hard to put down, indeed.
Yeah, I get that it's a nice feeling being able to sightread a level and that shouldn't be taken away, but having the ability to plan ahead would make some of the challenges fairer. The thing about Celeste's platforming is that some of it is really puzzle solving with precise inputs, and not having the ability to survey a challenge makes it difficult to think through.
Just finished B-5 and I'm impressed that I've been trending less and less deaths with each one, though they are getting harder. It feels nice getting better and better at the thing, though I know the chapter 7 one is going to kick my ass. I'm doing all of the B-sides before starting chapter 8, since I know unlocking chapter 8's B-side requires you to get all other hearts first, and it will probably be a break compared to the B-sides.
Also this soundtrack is really good, but the B-sides are amazing. I've been blown away with track after track and I'm almost definitely going to get both OSTs.
7 A is fun, not too hard, and epic, which isn't a word anyone should use lightly, but this warrants it.
7 B is nightmarish murderville.
Is the OST coming out in a form I can pay for? It's nice to support the artist when music is _this_ good.
EDIT: Oh derp it's on bandcamp duh https://radicaldreamland.bandcamp.com/album/celeste-original-soundtrack
Kind of want to wait for a physical version, honestly. I bet fangamer is gonna come out with all sorts of Celeste merch sooner or later.
I'd be down for a Celeste plush to go with my Hyper Light Drifter one.
On the soundtrack, I've been having some fun going through the works of the artists who worked on the B-sides. It's really cool that the game just has this showcase of indie talents on the soundtrack put to some good effect. So far, B-3 (Christa Lee) and B-5 (2 Mello) in particular are my favorites, but they've all been great.

Yeah I'm seriously all over any version of 5.
Also I just asked Lena Raine on twitter if she's planning a physical release of the OST, and she confirmed that yes she is :)
What a world we live in.

Nice! I might wait on that for the main soundtrack, then, since I like CDs for my car.
Man, I'm doing the chapter 6 B-side and this is hell. I'm almost definitely gonna surpass my high score on deaths. In retrospect, the bumpers have to be the worst gimmick in the game, because they're so finicky. In the main game, they're fine since they aren't too dangerous or abundant, but on the B-side their issues become abundantly clear. I can't count how many of my deaths were due to being in a slightly wrong position on a bumper and then getting launched into a spike. The bumper rooms still require precision, but it's just so much harder to get. I can't wait to see how awful my total is going to be from this.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Just finished with 797 deaths. Damn, the summit is going to take a feat to pull off. Fortunately it doesn't have any of those fucking bumpers.
Well, I'm officially over 100 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X now. God, it's a pain trying to build up all the affinities of my characters. Oh, but having a level 50 Skell is so sweet.

Nice! I stopped at 220 hours feeling I'd done everything I cared about (pretty much 100%).
Well, I've only got chapter 11 and 12 left to go as far as the main plot, but I'm gonna see if I can finish all the Affinity missions and Normal missions (maybe Basic missions)
Basic missions are pointless/repeatable. Though I guess sometimes they reward exclusive fashion gear. Doing all non-repeatable missions definitely takes a while, but if you're going for that already then I'd recommend also going for 100% Mira survey rate. My only main goal after that was to get all holofigures (basically requires killing every Tyrant, with some exceptions), and a couple sweet builds / level 60 Skells with superweapons along the way.
Yeah, forgot about the survey rates. Honestly, not sure I have it in me to beat all the big Tyrants, like the lvl. 90+ ones, but we'll see how it goes. Anyway, finished Chapter 11 today.

Holy fuck, you weren't kidding. 2 hours, 1231 deaths later, it is complete. I know a lot of those were just not getting the dash jump thing they only explain at the end of everything, plus there's a lot of brutal sections. Please someone show me a deathless for that, that is going to be art.

this guy has insane skills but he actually hasn't done 7-B yet!
https://www.youtube.com/user/Zurairofl/videos
(meanwhile, I've got two golden stroobs from 1-A and 2-A that I'm very proud of lol)
And yeah I wasn't a fan of that "here's a new technique that you never even imagined before, explained poorly by a bird"
Had to look up a video just to grasp what was meant to be done there :P
Only have 6C/7C/8C left, and maybe I'll keep working on getting lower and lower death counts for a while. Not optimistic about getting more goldens, though.

Oh wow, you've been busy. I'm not going to be going for the golden strawberries, since I don't want to leave that task half complete (fuck even thinking of the B-sides lawl). Apparently somebody did it all, though, in a single run (misread on my part), so congrats to them:
[hide]
I did the exact same thing as you with the dash jump, since I needed a visual example to know what I was even trying to accomplish and what success might look like. I even got past the first few challenges that needed it without full knowing how it worked. It doesn't help that their explanation really doesn't say the right thing. It's not a hard trick once you know how to use it, but it's hard to teach and should have just been left as maybe some advanced speed tech for people to discover.

Crazy that someone's gotten that good in…less than two weeks? Like I'm no slouch at gamezz but people like that blow me away.
I'll probably reference that vid for bypasses/routing options...
If you love the hyper wall jump as much as it sounds like you do, get ready for the C-sides haha. 5C demands...five uses of it without pause, IIRC.
7C is done. 8C remains
After playing it in fits and bursts over the past year, I finally finished Dragon Quest VII, and I'm not feeling a sense of accomplishment so much as a sense of relief that it's finally over. I knew it was going to be very long going in, but whoo boy, I was not prepared for how long in the tooth it could truly be. While I think it did have an interesting approach, the core plot and characters were just thin enough to make the game not compelling enough to justify sinking ninety-three hours into it. I actually went "Oh my god, really?" aloud when I thought the post-final boss "victory tour" was literally going to make me revisit every single town in the world and speak with every last NPC, but thankfully the game chickened out on that. Still though, having a forty-five minute ending sequence when there aren't a dozen different plot-and-character-threads left to wrap up is emblemic of the game's pacing problems. The final message from Kiefer was nice though, even if he stopped mattering like sixty-five hours ago.
I also have Dragon Quest VIII in my backlog, and even though I feel and my roommate assures me that I'll enjoy it a lot more than VII, I'm a little Dragon Quested-out right now so it's going to remain there for the time being.
Played a bit of Starfox and Starfox 2 on SNES classic…..why do people like this?
Attempted the Core today finally in Celeste.
! Man, I love this game a whole hella lot, but what the fuck is up with this level? I was complaining about how the bumpers are the worst mechanic in the game, so real glad they brought them back and added an equally bad mechanic into the mix with the launching platforms. The fire, ice and lava walls, or even the lack of refresh on the dash wouldn't be so bad if the game had the decency to use better platforms. I racked up a ton of deaths just from hitting a slightly wrong pixel on a bumper and getting knocked into a projectile, or something of that nature.
! I did B-7 and tanked 1200+ deaths without even getting all that frustrated, since I knew most of those mistakes were my own and there were clear ways to correct them. In most parts of the game, the paths through the rooms are well laid out, and though they might take some time for you to grasp, theoretically, someone could sightread any given one. With the jumper and launcher mechanics, though, everything is vague. You know you're supposed to be on the side of this thing, but whoops, too high, you're getting launched into the ceiling instead of across the room. Now sprinkle these things as necessary platforms between a constantly moving array of extreme temperature death meteors and you get the Core. This feels like such a misstep compared to the rest. I guess it's mitigated by the fact that it's an optional level, but it's a pretty disappointing end compared to 7.
I thought the core was amazing, and although I wasn't the one playing Nephy didn't seem to have any trouble getting all the mechanics to work favorably (though admittedly enough RNG to make deathless a living hell). I can think of two strawberries (one for bumpers and one for launching platforms) that seemed really precise, but the core mechanic (pun intended) was pretty brilliant.
Now for her to finally get around to B-Sides.
…actually just replayed 8A for funsies/reducing death count (down to 37 lolol)
Core A gimmicks were def annoying at the time and I still hate bumpers (why do they have to wiggle?) but I think doing C sides numbed me to anything A and B throws at you.
Agreed about core being a letdown after summit, at least in a visual/ambience sense.
Also dislike golden feathers since I just can't steer right without switching to the joystick from buttons.
Anyway, first two golden strawbs seems to be my limit. Can't even swing deathless 3A...
Might try to get death counts a little lower, but otherwise I'm feeling done with Celeste.
Next up is another great game in the climbing-things genre, SoTC.
I just bought both the OST and the B-Sides album on Bandcamp (and paid more than the ask for both). I'd consider paying again for a physical release if it comes with a complete track list.
Playing Overlord on xbox360 at the moment, loving the humor of the game. I think the controls aren't really optimized, but what the heck the game is from 2007^^ still need to collect the blue minions for my evil empire :)
Well, after three attempts at the final boss, I finally beat the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Had to max out my main character to lvl. 60 and even then I had to cheese it a bit by refueling my Skell after the Apocalypse Roar attack.
Oh well, onto the post-game!
B-Sides album
I've had B-sides on repeat the past few days of work. Really really good stuff.
3B and 5B in particular are groooovy.
7 is one of the only ones where I prefer the non-remix, with all the cool different instrumentations depending on the zone…
