I could just dance a jig because i'm so happy at the mention of Region-Free, but I won't coz i'll have to charge you.

I say good. Every other system is going for the "computer-DVD-player-breadmaker-whatevercrap".
Nintendo is making a GAME SYSTEM, and that's how it should be.
Not entirely, Wii is gonna have a web browser and is rumored to have instant message type capabilities, so looks like Nintendo wants to have the computer/game system/what have you. Just not as much as Sony or Microsoft. :p
Anyway, yeah, I'm fine with the lack of DVD capabilities, that's what my PS2/PS3 will be for. :D
-
Wii know that it will be releashed in europe at '07, but what Wii don't know is that when Nintendo's Wii will cost us. Cause I hpe its not gonna be same as Xbox360 as it came out… What I rememeber was about 400 €, what is way too much oney I ever have even had on my bank accont... >.>
-
Wow, Excite Truck looks awsome, all my money will disappear in seconds ;_;
I have 300$ now (:< -
One thing I'm worried about (though I hate to say it…):
The batteries. Do they mean like, AA batteries you have to buy and shove in the controller? That seems like it could be a tad bit annoying.
Of course, they did the same with the Wavebird, but I never owned one. How long did Wavebird's battery life usually last? O_o
-
They are chargeable.

In my experience with the Wavebird, the battery life is pretty damn long, even if you forget to turn the controller off for a day. And it's long because the Wavebird dosen't have a rumble feature, it's not using any extra energy. Now from what I've heard, the Wii remote is gonna have a rumble feature built-in, so chances are the battery life may be lower than your standard Wavebird.
In that respect, I think Sony has the right idea with it's controller, drop the rumble feature to save energy. It's not like I'll be missing it, I don't even use rumble features.
-
Nintendo is making a GAME SYSTEM
Doesn't really look like it anymore… like the weather channel it includes. (Although I guess now they could make a Animal Crossing game which would mimic your current real life weather)
Do they mean like, AA batteries you have to buy and shove in the controller?
Me thinks it's weird how rechargeable AA battiers aren't more popular. No need of buying new batteries more than once and it's more ecological.
I like rumble feature. Playing without it always feels odd.
-
They are chargeable.
if what you say is true then
BITE THAT XBOX AND YOUR UNCHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Try December 8th 2006 and £179/249 euros

Anybody heard something about Zelda for Gamecube being cancelled? Didn't hear any news about a release date for Europe, that'd be one of Nintendo's biggest bitch moves ever.
-
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732877p1.html
The game, which is set to debut alongside the console on November 19 and for GameCube on December 11. That's the US release date but Europe will surely, as usual, get the game later on. I see very little point in buying GC version though. -
I'm pretty sure that Twilight Princess was announced for a UK release in November.
-
If you don't want a Wii and have a gamecube, that's enough of a reason to buy it, though I will admit in terms of this sort of thing, Europe always seems to get the short end of the stick, they're even region locked.
-
They are chargeable.
Link? I'm not doubting you, I just want to see more about this (and if the Wavebird was good, then I suppose this might be; of course the Wiimote has both rumble and a speaker now…).
-
Sorry, I
ve read that long time ago, & don
t remeber where >.<.
I`ll try getting a link for you, though. -
i like, most of you, cannot wait for a Wii! esp for resident evil!!! said to be called "umbrella chronicles" and will link all the games together up to RE4, so i'm looking forward to playing that story. i'm sad about SSB: Brawl and mario galaxy being pushed back into 2007 but i'm sure their quality will be improved.
as for all games being region free, simply not true, nintendo said only first-party games will be region free for SURE, it's up the to third-party designers to decided if they will be region free.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/15/the-only-wii-post-youll-ever-need/
-
Umbrela Chronicles is gonna be excellent. RE4 gameplay with the wii-mote and 6 plus playable characters. I'm definitely decided to get a wii, just not sure when.
-
Damn.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732982p1.html
btw. I think Sony just took out the rumble feature cause they're getting screwed out of that law suit.
-
That's messed up, now I have to order import gaming supplies again. Oh well, it's not too big of a deal, as long as games are 50.00 dollars, I'm fine.
-
What?! Didn't they already release a statemeant that the first games would be. Dammit. Maybe this is for europe people only….That or nintendo changes their mind. Why was the ds region free while the bigger system isnt?
Btw, how long did it take the freeloader to get developed after the gamecube was made?
-
Yeah. That's what this guy said: http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732748p1.html
But…. well, then againn, who do you trust, the Vice President or General Manager of UK? Neither of which were involved in development I believe.
-
DS is a portable. It doesn't have to deal with different television standards. But now I'm confused. I thought region free first party games were already confirmed.
You can use rechargeable AA batteries basicly with anything that has AA batteries to begin with.
-
Ok. Now I'm not sure who to believe.
This says region free is a go.
http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6889
This says region free is out of the question.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732982p1.html
Let's just wait and see what the real story is. Don't get upset just yet.
EDIT:
But…. well, then againn, who do you trust, the Vice President or General Manager of UK? Neither of which were involved in development I believe.
I find it strange we haven't seen anything from Nintendo of Japan on this. After all, they would know what the hell is going on here.
-
I thought religion free first party games were already confirmed.
Yes, that's right. religion free games are pretty much confirmed.
I'm gonna believe the Vice President of marketting. for now, since he appeared to give more information than just the region free news like about the virtual console
edit:
Sorry KatanaJon, I meant marketting VP
-
@yokaiforte:
Yes, that's right. religion free games are pretty much confirmed.
There go my hopes of a Sunday Funday remake.

This post is deleted!

Anybody heard something about Zelda for Gamecube being cancelled? Didn't hear any news about a release date for Europe, that'd be one of Nintendo's biggest bitch moves ever.
Nah, it's just being pushed o December.
-
It's not region free in Europe. It is in the Americas and Japan.
-
Well, actually, UK's general manager says otherwise, as it is actually games being encoded in that manner, not the system. The system code whatever it is has to match up with whatever it is in the game to unlock it is what I think it does.
-
@786110:
It's not region free in Europe. It is in the Americas and Japan.
Really, I hope u r right, don't feel like importing anything extra (just games)
-
Why are you hoping that it's not region free in Europe? :silly:
-
Really, I hope u r right, don't feel like importing anything extra (just games)
Apparently, it was a mistake on NOA's part. It IS region locked. That or there is a lack of communication regarding the Wii in Nintendo. Although, I guess it could possibly be region locked between the US/Japan and Aus/Eur, that is if I remembered correctly that both US/Jap use NTSC and Aus/Eur use PAL, although I'm not completely sure and yes, I accidently deleted my previous post.
-
Why are you hoping that it's not region free in Europe? :silly:
My bad, I hope Europe gets region free too. Kinda just woke up
-
Do you not get the concept of Region Free at all 786110? That means all the regions not just Region 2 and 3 are compatible together or Regions 1 and 3 are compatible it means ALL of them in use not just specific countries regions like Japan and America. It wouldn't be Region Free if there was a missing region now would it?
-

I never said anything about it being region free in my last post…I said region locked, atleast confirmed in Europe.
-
Is there anything saying that NOA screwed up in saying that it was region free?
-
Hey, I got a question. How do wii points work? At first, I thought that they only work for the Virtual Console, but it looks like you need them to download the web browser.
-
You use real cash to buy a specific amount of points that can be used to exchange for software within WiiConnect24 and Virtual Console (like some highly suspicious services run for MMORPGS, e.g. WoW and in-game Gold buying).
-
You need cash/wii points for Wiiconnect24? Damn they're crafty. But I also find that information false. because, where as in the Virtual Console (which indeed costs money), of which the virtual console is a piece of software that is not unlike the Apple Itunes Store, Wiiconnect24 is what keeps the Wii on a standby phase.
Unless you're talking about just enabling the service of course.
Also, what I heard about the wii points is that they increase by 10 points each month, though
-
**WiiConnect24 will not require points.
>! **1\. What is the Nintendo Wii?** The Nintendo Wii is the latest games console from gaming giant Nintendo. >! **2\. I thought that was the Revolution?** >! Yes, during its early development stage Nintendo chose the name ‘Revolution’ for the codename of their new console. On April 28, 2006 Nintendo announced the real name was ‘Wii’ and public uproar ensued. >! **3\. What does the name Wii mean?** >! Here is Nintendo’s official explanation of the name Wii, and why they chose it as their name for the console: >! "Introducing… Wii. As in “we.” While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd. So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because, it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything." >! **4\. When is the release date?** >! Ever since the E3 trades show, there has been plenty of discussion and speculation regarding the date for the Wii release. Predictions have ranged from late September to mid December. >! The last official word on the release date was on July 6 2006 where a Nintendo spokesperson announced they will be revealing the exact date in September. >! As of now (18th August 2006) it seems extremely likely this announcement will take place at the Leipzig Games Convention. Nintendo’s scheduled presentation there ‘"Wii Prove our Promise" is believed to finally lay to rest many of the rumors regarding the release date and Wii pricing. >! The presentation is scheduled for August 23rd (4:15 a.m. EST). >! **5\. How much will it cost?** >! As with the release date, many figures have been floating around but as of yet no official final word on the subject from Nintendo. >! Back on May 25th 2006 they did however make an official announcement in which they stated the console will not exceed $250 in price. >! Nintendo senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori said the Wii would sell for 25,000 yen ($220) or lower in Japan and $250 (£133) or lower in the US. >! More recently however Advanced Media Network says a recent financial report from Tokyo-based Nikko Citigroup states that Nintendo's Wii will launch in Japan for 19,800 yen, about $170 U.S. >! This is the latest in a long line of pricing speculation. >! **6\. How much will the games cost?** >! The general consensus is that pricing will be around the $60 mark. However, Satoru Iwata has spoken out on the subject (March 29 2006) revealing it is unlikely that first-party game titles will break the $50 price barrier. >! **7\. How big is the console?** >! The Wii is Nintendo’s smallest console to-date. The console is approximately the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together in thickness. >! **8\. How much will additional controllers cost?** >! No official word yet on the controller pricing however is widely expected to cost around $40-$50 with the inclusion of the nunchuck accessory. (This figure was based around previous pricing structures and the advanced technology in the controller) >! **9\. Will there be different packages like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3?** >! Currently there is no information to suggest different premium packages. Of course there will be different bundles available but this will centre on different gaming choices and will contain no variation in hardware. >! **10\. Does the Wii have a built-in Projector?** >! No. This was a rumor that came around after the E3 show. There was much debate over what was under ‘flap’ on the console. It was rumored Nintendo were hiding a secret projection unit, this was not the case. >! **11\. So what was under the flap then?** >! Just a slot for the SD Memory card >! **12\. What will be included in the bundle?** >! No confirmation as of yet on specific Wii bundles. However it is widely believed that there will be a choice of packages, focusing on different gaming titles for the Wii. For example a Virtual Console bundle including the retro controller and SD memory card and some download credit. >! **13\. Is there going to be a global launch?** >! No, a global launch is not on the cards for the Wii. Back in March Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said: >! "We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this," >! **14\. Can I pre-order, and if so where?** >! Many stores are accepting pre-orders although this tends to vary from town to town. The majority of online stores are offering a mailing list service to register your interest in the console. >! Expect this all to change when the pricing and release date are confirmed. If you’re a UK resident here’s a short list of online stores: >! Nintendo has revealed five different colors so far; lime green, red, black, white and platinum. However there may be more yet to be unveiled. >! **16\. Is the Wii truly a Next Generation console?** >! Ever since the unveiling of the Wii at the E3 conference there has been much discussion centering on whether the Wii can be classed as Next Gen. Although in terms of hardware and graphical output you could argue the Wii isn’t quite up to the advancements of the Xbox 360 or indeed the Playstation 3\. However Nintendo’s focus has always been on the development of the best gaming experience for its users rather than just the eye candy, and its with that in mind that has led to the advancement of the Wii remote and the subsequent increased involvement that gives to the gamer. It is this kind of advancement that has spurred many a gaming journalist to rally behind the Wii console as a true Next Gen competitor regardless of its less demanding graphical output. >! Most recently (15th august 2006) American games publisher McGee has spoken out saying: >! "The only true Next-Gen console out there is the Wii. Everything else is just a video card and processor upgrade," >! **17\. What is the E3 Expo Show?** >! The Electronic Entertainment Expo is a gaming industry trade show. It is an invitation only event for gaming professionals. >! It was at the E3 event this year that Nintendo stole the show with their Wii demos and conference show. >! **18\. Why was the Wii so successful at the E3 event?** >! The queues for the Wii demo booths grew and grew as the show went on, leaving the Sony booth a little on the quiet side. >! The Wii was a massive success at the E3 show, offering budding gaming professionals the chance for a hands on sample of the Wiimote, and the feedback was very positive. >! Showcasing demo titles such as Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Red Steel really added to Nintendo’s success at the show, coupled with the revolutionary new Wiimote hardware really allowed Nintendo to run away with the show. >! **19\. Did Nintendo showcase the final Wii hardware?** >! No, the finalized hardware was not showcased at the E3 event. >! **20\. Is it true Nintendo used gamecubes at the E3 demonstration?** >! Dev Kits are basic development kits sent out to game publishers. >! **22\. Where can I get one from?** >! The Specs: Wii boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi capability. A bay for an SD memory card will let players expand the internal flash memory. From the average game however it isn’t said to be a real issue at all. >! **84\. Is interference an issue?** >! Eh, as long as it's cheap and I still have my job. I'll get the Wiiconenct service, hell if Nintendo gets the online network as smooth running as Xbox's live then Sony will perish.
-
Connect24 will be a free service as for the message boards, wii channels and surfing the net on the opera browser. the catch is you'll have to buy the browser with the points that you use to buy virtual console games(nes,snes,n64). you won't have to spend the point to simply connect to the service. nintendo wants your wii to always be connected so they can send you demos and various things for when you wake up.
this is all what i have taken from reports, some may be proven wrong later or already has been.I'm really interested in knowing how my ds will connect to the wii. will i be able to use it as a controller like ive heard? i'd love the wii to function as a hub so you could pictochat over the net and maybe even extend the download n play area.
-
They already have a sucessful Online operation already in effect for the DS so i'm sure Wii won't be any trouble at all.
-
I like the this Region free crazyness.
"The Wii is Region Free, OR IS IT?!"
Anyway, let's just see what happens, perhaps Nintendo of Japan will clear this up.
-
I wonder if you can earn those points…..Anyways, since Nov. 19th is the release date, most of us can't get it. It's a fucking Sunday; but lucky for me, there's a game store nearby that opens on a Sunday.
-
They should have like wifi tournaments where you can earn points. So like have a super smash tournamnets hosted by nintendo on ____ server and who ever wins gets 10 points or something. The charging the person using wifi maybe like 5 bucks a month, so the customer and the company benifits from it. That would be so cool.
Also there will probably another way so you download the games without having points like .isos -
FINALLY, WE HAVE SEEN THE PROMISED LAND THAT ISN'T PATHETIC XBOX OR SONY!
Seriously, what is with all
teh h8t
?You know pretty much everyone is going to end up with one, the other or both 5 years from now.
I
m much reminded of my middle school days. When Sony first released PS there was so much of
teh h8t` for Sony and yet here I am with my Nintendo and Sony products side by side.I love all systems if they provide games I like. And with a fantastic line-up of games from established series, unless they somehow suddenly make shitty games I can
t imagine why you
d suddenly haveteh h8t
for a system. If you just happen to have hated every single PS game ever released or find yourself without an established series continuing on the system I can TOTALLY understand the distaste but otherwise…..
