The Promised Neverland

Or a message/video from him.

I'm fan-gushing over Emma's continuous badassery. And Archduke Lewis is quickly becoming my favorite antagonist introduced thus far in the series. Interesting coincidence that he was also responsible for the deaths of the stranger's family and driving him to having a mental breakdown. Beyond excited to see Lewis go up against Emma, their fight is going to be hype.
-
Some children being shipped to such "hunting grounds" screams for a comeback of Norman in my opinion.
-
I gotta agree, first thing I thought of when the kid said they had deals set up, and this Lewis demon wanting special prey capable of fighting back.
-
I don't buy the whole thing about the farms not knowing of Goldy Pond. Makes no sense. Kids dissappear, movements in the woods. Tolerating it because of money, strength or influence, I can get behind. But the cattle knowing more than the farmers?
-

He's being saved for a much more nefarious scheme, I'm sure. As it is, the girl and the demon both seemed to indicate someone of Anne's caliber hasn't been seen in a long while.

He may not be at goldy pond, otherwise the demon baron would already have an arch rival, but it leaves the door wide open for him being transferred to a similar place, or that such high caliber kids may be used alive for even sinister plans.
-
I still say he's being kept as a sperm donor.
-
I still say he's being kept as a sperm donor.
That'd be kind of dark/adult for the series, besides even in japan, I think they could get away with a 12 year old captive sperm donor. But he definitely has his own special purpose.

Oh yeah new chapter is out
https://readms.net/read/neverland/067/
Im loving Lewisoka
-
The demons now are giving me a sort of "Victorian nobility" feeling. Like a bunch of dukes and barons out for their weekly hunt and being all snotty about it.
@Long:

Oh, I didn't think they'd be using him NOW, but rather keeping him watched over so that he grows up carefully and then can father a bunch of children when he comes of age.
-
dunno how i feelabout the demon guy first beigng so excited about finding a worthy prey and then "oh no,not now,i'll wait"

The reason is clear, at this point he could probably easily hunt her down but he wants Emma to adapt to the situation and learn about whats going on and what this place is all about. What he wants is not to hunt them, he wants probably more of a hunt/fight where his victim can go up against him with everything they got. And Emma clearly showed no fear.
-
Isn't Emma being a bit too naive for it to work out in this series?
-
Yes, but until it stops working she has no reason to stop. They have only lost Norman at this point.
-
Is this worth reading? I keep hearing it's really good, but I was hoping to get some in-depth reviews about it.
-
It's utterly fabulous. Nothing like it in Shounen Jump.
You like suspense? It's got it in spades. You like mystery? Plenty of that too. Like unconventional heroes? These guys are ass-kickers in the best way. You never know what's coming each week, and there's not many series that can say that.
-

It's a lot like the best of Hunter x Hunter in a lot of ways, to me. I mean that as about the highest compliment I can give to a manga, for whatever it's worth. Great characters, cool world, good story - very solid.
-

Yep, definitely worth a read. It grips you from the very first chapter.
But if you want a more in-depth review, well…that might be hard to do since that would likely entail revealing spoilers and that's definitely not something you want to do since half of the fun of this series is all the twists and turns it takes. But, suffice to say, the characters are likeable and sympathetic, if a bit one-note, the art is exceptional (though there is a black-face-ish character that may be off-putting to some) and the story, though sometimes a bit long-winded, is incredibly tense and engaging. So yeah, one of the best series running in Jump right now.

Alright, thank you! I'll start reading it first chance I get.
-
I come to love this series since I've read the first chapter. The first arc is truly amazing. The world building is Hunter X Hunter level of interesting. The mangaka really knows how to get the readers hook and anticipating for the next chapter.
-
Get it? 4 means Death.
-
A part of me wants Emma to never leave Goldy Pond and this manga to become only about this hunting game.
Also, the contrast between the kids crying and the demons partying only strikes you when you realize the meat they are eating is most likely the children they just killed.
-
@.access:

And it's always only four. I wonder if that's a number they decided upon so they don't kill everybody too fast, of it's an amount imposed by above (maybe a demon beaurocrat?)

That was really cruel when you think about it, because of that i love the manga.

Just shows that Emma couldnt do anything, i see it coming that in the next one Emma will try to convince them to fight. No one will follow Emma, but somehow no one or less than 4 will die. That will give hope that its nor impossible to fight the demons. And if you look at it the Demons are fewer in numbers…
-
Well, that easily one of the darkest chapters yet and I think maybe first deaths (of children) since the first chapter.
-
6-8 years into the future Emma's name will instill fear in a great deal of the demons. She'll be known as 'Demon Slayer Emma', mark my words.
-
A hard lesson that you knew was coming: You can't always succeed. Doesn't mean you stop trying though.
Part of Emma's strength is being able to get back up after being knocked down (both literally and metaphorically). Next chapter we will see how long it takes her this time.
-
So I just finished reading up to chapter 17. I had to force myself to stop because my eyes were glued to the screen. It's been long while since I've read sucj an intense psychological story like this.,,
-
Lewis is a very interesting character so far can't wait to see even more from, lol I love that these demons have table manners and are eating in a fancy place.
-
Lewis makes the biggest mistake of his life to let Emma develop to a better rival.
I really wonder what this Lewis character will reveal the the overall story, once he is taken care off.
Also Ray and the old guy will be planning something to help out, but i would prefer Emma handling the situation on her own, with the help of the other kids there.
Some of them will surely be included to the family later, once they managed to escape. -
New chapter: https://readms.net/r/neverland/069/4802/1
Didn't really expect that, seems the plot is moving forward
-
Holy shit, Adam is huge.
-
One of Emma's faults is that she beats herself up too much for failure. Yes, those children died, but you cannot blame yourself entirely for the fact that MONSTERS got them.
-
Has there ever been a shonen protagonist who has caring too little as a fault
-
Goku .
-
Well, most shonen protagonists care vehemently about something. It's just that some of them don't care about the right things.
-
Asakura Yoh, the stoner protagonist.
-
@Long:

Light Yagami. If you can call him a hero.
-
Whaaaat? He cared for himself a lot.
-
Light Yagami. If you can call him a hero.
Whaaaat? He cared for himself a lot.
Yeah, like I said, cared a lot, but not for the right things.
But if we're talking unmotivated protagonists…...I don't know. Saitama maybe?
-
I just started this yesterday and caught up. Man this story is awesome.
-
But who is That Guy's name anyway?
https://readms.net/r/neverland/070/4819/1 -
~~Do you know that man? Oh, how I miss that man. Excuse me, lady, that man works here?
Honestly, who talks about someone else like that? Specially when you are trying to identify someone and ascertain their status? I honestly couldn't take the chapter seriously after that, I just kept thinking about absurd misunderstandings caused by someone deciding to refer to another person as that man instead of by his name (although in this particular case it wouldn't make a difference since Emma doesn't know how he is called anyways).~~

If my 15+ years of heavy Japan exposure and the 5 years before that of mild Japan exposure have taught me anything, is that their favorite pronoun is "that person".

It seems pretty obvious now that you mentioned it.
-
By this point I hope one of our resident Japanese speakers would have explained it, I'm just a humble weaboo so take this with a grain of salt:
Japanese doesn't require to talk about the subject on a phrase, so when it's translated something like "do you like that person" is something like "do you like" with the implication of both speakers knowing who they are talking about. Why there isn't more comedy based on not knowing who "that person" is makes me feel like my interpretation is wrong.
-
Maybe that's why some mangas' humour relies so much on people talking about 2 different subjects for a whole chapter until the misunderstanding is clear? My reaction is always "why don't you clarify/name the subject and be done with it" but it makes sense if the language doesn't prioritize it.
-
Pretty great chapter and arc, all around. We're about to find out what Mr. Minerva really left at Goldy Pond and why did he choose such a dangerous place. Plus and infiltration mission from the new duo of Ray and the jerk older guy who is now becoming not so jerk. What do you guys think is in there? A clue about some passage into the human world? How do the demons get stuff from the human world in the first place? Some kind of black market?

That cliffhanger.
