@RomeIsHome25:
My point is Oda writes one-dimensional and on-the-nose content sometimes (not nearly as much as Mashima, but its still there) and the grand majority of people here ignore those, but make a big deal about when other series do it. Like with this moment in FT. Erza's dad or whatever being inserted solely to be used as a jerk with no redeeming features. Sounds like the Vinsmokes to me.
The Vinsmokes are evil for the sake of being evil. There's nothing redeeming about them and they came off as instant jerk-offs almost instantly in the most obvious and easy-to-write way possible. Oda wants you to hate these characters, but he's laying the "badness" on too thick, IMO. The chapter where Sanji eats with his family while getting into an argument with Niji and of course Sanji's flashback when living with them best show this.
Doflamingos men were bad, yes, you couldn't mistake that. But they weren't written in such an obvious obnoxious way as the Vinsmokes currently are. In fact, some of them has some layers even (Senor Pink, Doflamingo himself)
If it was any other manga, most people would criticize the Vinsmokes and their characterization. But as your doing right now, OP fans always tend to look the other way whenever a fault comes that could easily be in another series.
I'm not saying that because I'm a OP fan if you think that is the case, because there are characters that I found it badly written like Weevil and Rebecca, but if we never had any word about Judge before his appearance I would even agree to it, but no. Before his introduction, we learned about the Germa and what they do and just after his fight with Sanji we learned that he was a former scientist that wished for creating super-humans or something.
We didn't even had a word about Erza's dad since this chapter and the first thing he does it's mistreat his wife and that is out of nowhere, like if he is only there because Erza needs a father to born, unlike the Vinsmokes that we heard since Zou and we get to know what Germa is all about when Yonji and Reiju were the first of them to appear. And since they were raised to be skilled soldiers since birth it is understandable why they have to be merciless and evil.
If they just appeared out of nowhere without we even knowing what Germa or Vinsmoke even meant, that would be another complete story.
Also I wouldn't say Doflamingo is on the same level with Senor Pink considering he was pretty much pure evil since he was a child so he is more poorly-written than Germa by your word.
Fair enough. At least I know not every OP fan is deluded when similar things happen in it. Lmao.
I don't get this part.

@Domingo:
Err, are we sure it's fair to compare the Vinsmokes whose admittedly written to be as evulz as possible but still have chance to be further explored (as their arc isn't over yet) with a cartoon evil husband who's probably one-off at best? Doesn't Oda have past extras made only for being jerk-ass to the viewpoint character? Like uh… those gonk doctors who refused to treat Law's disease? X Drake's dead father? Sabo's parents, the adopted child and Goa Kingdom as a whole? Jam Pirates? Citizens who tortured the exiled Donquixotes? Etc.
Also every East Blue Saga villain that is not Smoker.
