@desa:
Make the point that blood has little importance when it comes to who your family is.
Guess that's why the reveal fell flat? Because we all know for sure that Erza's not gonna feel any kind of conflict from it. Irene too was designed to be an awful mother with no redeeming value, so there's that.
Why should their importance be related?
I'm just thinking it's unfair to give Erza more plot-related importance that can potentially overshadow everyone else's (than she already had done with strength, determination and plot armor). As you already know, dragons are big deal. Dragonslayer magics hardly do a thing to them despite the name. Normal magics won't work on them. Now, we're told that there was a "human" that stood above even the freaking dragons? Of which Erza had potential to become due to how she's related to Irene?
But if you are searching for importance, she is the one that opened the passage to the future for the dragon slayers(and their dragons) and was a competent mage.
She sure was important, but depends on what secret Irene is about to unveil, Anna might turn out to be a mere tailor/escort in comparison. I mean, look at Erza now fighting the strongest enemy general whereas Lucy in the last chap was told to strip naked just to keep Natsu warm, in front of everyone present. That's… important, but she didn't do it, so that makes her terrible heroine?
She likes to hear herself talk? She seems to be quite a fan of her own grandeur.
I want to believe that she's doing it to break Erza down, but there doesn't seem to be any weakness that she can exploit. Or she's currently possessed by evil exposition fairy.
Wait, why am I taking this manga this seriously? Must be something I smoked…
