One Piece celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2017

It seems like it was just yesterday but One Piece will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in 2017

Although One Piece's 20th birthday will be in 22th July 2017, Shueisha started the celebrations this week with a special poster between Kochikame and One Piece for the end of Kochikame's 40th Anniversary (2016) and the beginning of One Piece's 20th Anniversary (2017).

And next week, in Weekly Shonen Jump #01/2017, One Piece will take up Jump cover and Chapter 848 will have Color Spread to celebrate the beginning of One Piece's 20th Anniversary!!!

We will use this thread for all celebrations, events or publications for One Piece's 20th Anniversary.

Come on, guys, let's celebrate!!!

Notice how in the first row of spines for 2008, Brook is not in that illustration. Yet he in every other one afterwards. Since Thriller Bark ended in 2008 (specifically on February 25th with Chapter 489, which is called "The Eighth" to commemorate Brook's joining), that might mean Jimbei may not appear in any anniversary material until he officially joins this year. And since members always join at the end of an arc, that means it doesn't look like he'll join until at least mid-2017. That sounds like an awful lot of material Jimbei will be excluded from, especially if other Jump mangaka decide to illustrate the Straw Hats and other One Piece characters in their art-style like they did for One Piece's 10th anniversary and Dragon Ball's 30th anniversary. I would love to be wrong though.

I wish I could draw something like this, but nope I didn't draw or color the pic. I just found it on a Google Image search and saved it because it was the first and only (for now) drawing I saw with the SHs and Jinbei with a family photo vibe.

Well they are celebrating that fact that now since it will be the first issue of jump for 2017, it will start One Piece's 20th year, so even if technically not 20th anniversary yet, it kinda makes sense to start the party going already, lol.

That is certainly delightful information to know. I would love to see some anniversary merchandise and mangaka illustrations of our favorite blue goomba.

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga began its Shonen Jump run on July 19, 1997. That prominent manga magazine kicks off its 2017 numbering next week, so, it's about time to start celebrating the 20th anniversary. While a big year of "surprises" is being planned, the first is that the spines of the magazine's issues will feature a mini-chronicle of the series' development .
