I think the main thing we're trying to say is: Don't give up on the manga. Keep reading, there's tons of good stuff in there.
Plus, if you keep reading at one point you'll reach the introduction of the Xing characters (a country based on China), who sadly never made it into the anime. Ling, Ran Fan, Fu, and Mei ALONE are worth sticking with the manga.
That and the plot twist after Hohenheim shows up. I won't say anymore.
I'm not giving up on it, just stating my opinion. The whole reason I picked up the manga, is so I can see the difference. I liked the anime, but the movie was very dissatisfying. (Hohenhiem shows up alrady, huh)

I've never read the manga, but yeah cyborg Archer was definetely the most out of place, WTF moment in the anime. And I sort of suspect that the anime ended the way it did as an excuse to make a movie to tie up loose ends. By the way, when exactly did the anime start to part ways with the manga?
I think around the laboratory changes start to take place. Definitely around the Greed arc.

I found it to be different right away, because there's a lot more humor in the manga.
But plotwise…. I guess around the laboratory, but I haven't gotten that far in the manga (aside from reading recent chapters).

The laboratory was at the end of Season I; up until then, the only deviations from the manga were the fillers, Greed/Kimblee in lab five and the Crystal Alchemist's death (oh, maybe how Cornell died, too). Season II was complete deviation.

Manga reading tires everyone if they're scanlations. My friend told me the contrast between black and white on the screen induces fatigue, so I now print scanlations before reading.
that's why I'd rather have a physical book to sit down with on my bed.

62 was good. Some great progress. I predict once ed and al learn that new alchemy they will defeat father then the series will probably end.
Also it really bugs me in volume 9 of viz's translation they use lin insted of ling, while on his name braclet it was still Ling and in volume 8 they call him ling. I looked to see in another book and it was lin also. I hope it was just an error for 9 and fix it in 10. That and Lanfan.

You see, I had the exact same notion. I didn't want to re-read everything, but the thing is it can't really be avoided, because alot of events take place out of order in the anime. Example: Al getting kidnapped happens in volume 6, way before major events like laboratory 5 or
! hughes death. It also turns out different and introduced some chimera characters rather… differently. So basically there no getting around re-telling some of the same story, however volumes 9 and 10 I have a good feeling are getting to that point of complete divergence.
I'm already on chapter 45 or around there. I haven't read for a few days. I've been blazzing through 3-5 volumes in a afternoon and night.
Anyways, does anyone know where to get the artwork that appears on the FUNimation DVD's? They are really nice.
I'm on Chapter 63. Good series.

Agreed here. Of course, try saying that to the mass number of people on the ANN discussion who keep bitching and hating on Viz. I know they aren't the best, but c'mon, they haven't done anything extrememly drastic (i.e: CMX's Tenjou Tenge). There was a somoene who was even comparing them to Al-Queda for Gods' sake! :wassat:

OK, I saw all 52 eps. of the anime, but not the movie (yet), so I just wanna know if I should read the manga in case it continues the series.
The manga is compeletly different then the anime. It seperates from volume 6 compeletly, but their a lot of things different earlier too.

I liked the anime till the end. The other side of the gate was stupid when he stayed over there and COULDN'T use alchemy. That's why the movie was meh. Everything that didnt happen on the other side of the gate was cool. Al kicking those robots ass was awesome. Then in the end

Changing the subject a little, I am planing to buy/rent the new ps2 game coming out in october. It will be cool. Also the rpg Fma games any fun. I wish I could rent them, but blockbuster doesn't have them…
I hate it, when you have a series, where 2 charicters should be together, and at the end, they are seperated to….la la la, go on with their pretty little lives, all alone...(bite me)
! you know Winry likes Ed, and if Ed took time away from his quest to do anything else, you know he'd take intrest in Winry too. Escaflowne was another story where they did this, and it disapointed me.
