Be warned, the first season s by far the weakest. Its very monster of the week and very goofy, stupidly so, in a lot of instances. It balances out a bit better later.
General Ninja Turtles thread

Also be warned: the creators of the show are big horror movie fans and that finds its way into the series numerous times. Especially during the "escape New York" arc.

It's already reached it's goal, but there's a kickstarter for an IDW based Ninja Turtle tabletop game.

The Ninja Turtles D20 table top game was a lot of fun. You could make your own mutants as well as play as the turtles since they gave them stats. Funniest bit was Michaelangelo having a higher physical beauty state than April O'Neil lol.
Also I'm not really understanding kickstarters that involve property that's been around for years. I thought it was just for up and coming never before seen stuff or property that may have been dropped a long time ago or had no real ownership.

Nope. Kickstarter is for funding creatives to be able to produce stuff they just wouldn't be able to otherwise. In a lot of cases it sort of amounts to a pre-order. You know you'll have this many customers, they've given you the cash, so you can go through and pay to have it created.
Sometimes the kickstarter is to fund the entire creative process of creating a thing (and the couple months rent a person needs to survive while they concentrate on it) and others its just to cover print costs. It's been especially helpful with smaller indie properties where there's only a built in audience of a few thousand and you just need to raise 10,000 dollars to print a trade. Cause… printing, packaging and shipping costs a ridiculous ammount of money. Even if the product is done when the kickstarter happens, actual production costs can be killer.
ANd yes, believe it or not, the TMNT in certain fields are actually more niche than you might think. Despite the cartoons and the toylines and movies and being one of the biggest longrunning multimedia franchises around... the COMICS have generally had low sales for decades throughout all the companies they've been at. They had high sales ones, but, not so much anymore. The actual audience for a board game built around the specific IDW line? Pretty small.
But between this and the new game based around the IDW comic, they're clearly trying reeeeally hard to push it as their own brand into something.

So I may be late to the party on this bit of news for The 2012 turtles Season 4
I saw a video that showed basic storyboard sketches with audio that showed that the 2012 Turtles encounter the 1987 Turtles.
seems abit cool, since that wormaggedon episode did that bit with the 1987 turtles.
I wouldn't be suprised if we got a multi-parter story that is kinda like a Turtles Forever 2 but the main group of turtles now being the 2012 version.
But I am sure it's just 2012 meets 1987 turtles.
-
Crossover episode between the 1980's and 2012 turtles to air on March 27th.
-
Turtles Fivever?
-
I hope they make a reference to that othe crossover.
-
Not looking likely, considering the 89 turtles are making the exact same mistake of walking out in public. Which in both cases is weird, considering I remember them always having the sense to use trench coats and sometimes creepy rubber masks.

They sort of gave up on that after the first season or two. By the season with Dredd they were just flat out in the open.
People give the previous crossover crap for making the 80's turtles "too silly" and uhm, sorry nostaliga, they really were exactly that dumb. Maybe not in the first dozen or so episodes, but they were… not so bright later on, and a lot of the monsters of the week were... also stupid.
-
I thought that was someone's biased opinion reading it on TV tropes.
-
The crossover episode was pretty great.
! I did like the reference to the Wormquake episode from Season 2 at the end of the episode with the 80's Turtles getting ready to fight Tiger Claw. And it's was great to hear the cast of the 80's Turtles back together again to voice the characters again.
-
Raph's subtitles was the best gag in the episode!

Am I the only one left confused by the final episode of the space arc?

Am I the only one left confused by the final episode of the space arc?
! They travelled back in time 6 months at the start of the story at the beginning of the season. They caught up just now to last season's finale, (6 months later) interfered a little bit, and the end result was different.
! Paradox, there's now two sets of turtles because the past ones from six months ago haven't travelled back in time yet and have no reason to, but…. they get to go along with old 6 months ago Fugitoid anyway.Or was there something else confusing you besides the fact they timetravelled at the start of the season?

! The past ones traveling back with the Fugitoid despite having no reason to go, while the present ones stayed was what confused me…...along with Splinter seeing Shredder's attack coming
this time around. Also was it ever explained how the professor knew to come to earth in the
original timeline? -

this time around. Also was it ever explained how the professor knew to come to earth in the
original timeline?! Leonardo called out and Splinter heard it. You could see his ears twitch, and that put him on guard to catch Shredder.
! And if your future self showed up, Bill and Ted style, and said "You're about to have an awesome adventure in space, you should go for it"… wouldn't you?
! I can only assume they will ALSO travel back in time to better avoid paradoxes and have more or less equivalent adventures. Or maybe they'll show up in a year being all evil. Or alt Raph will hook up with/piss off a very confused Mona Lisa. Either way.
! ANd I assume Fugitoid originally was just tracking the signal of his invention in order to destroy it and just sort of... got to Earth too late.. -
! The way the paradox was solved was a bit too convient but nothing else to be done about it I suppose. Also I figured
that Splinter was able to avoid Shredder's attack by some specific means (probably would've noticed sooner but my
cousin was talking over most of the action). I guess that would make sense concerning the Professor showing up when he did
though it still seems like something that was done to save everyone at just that moment though I guess it's kind of a callback
to how the Turtles met the fugitoid in the 2003 series. -
Why not just let Fugitoid explain it.

Well I bit the bullet and have binge watching the new show in tghe last wekk. ALL episodes.
My opinion of it? Much better then I expected. Had a while to get used to the designs. Mikey is a little too cutesy and Don is still too tall for me but I've come around. Overall I have been enjoying it bar one thing. The Don and April stuff. It was mildly amusing the first season barely bearable in season 2 but from season 3 I just keep wishing April get's written out of the show or killed. And I get a little sweary when she gets paired with Don on missions. It pulls me out of the episode. In general I'm not big on any of the romance. But nah I just don't like April much and I HATE AprilXDonatello. (Don is my fave turtle despite some changes here) -

-
April is fine, but yeah, it'd be good if they let the thing with her and Donnie just drop. Or, just go ahead with it they insist. Either from just being icky and unwanted, or from being unending, the neverending crush thing passed some sort of threshold a while ago. .
(also in like all other continuities it tends to be Mikey that gets closest to her. But not in that way. Ick.)
-
It doesn't help that April has mostly just been there, without contributing all that much. The will they/won't they between her and Donnie is obviously to keep the shippers watching, which is dumb. They definitely do need to put and end to it for good (the best choice), or go through with it (the opposite of the best choice). They probably won't, though…
Oh, and Raph and Mona Lisa was really rushed, and pretty dumb (especially that betrayal episode). And I say that as someone who enjoys romance in series.
-
Monda Lisa mostly annoys me because
a)she's not likely to show up again now that they aren't in space
b)it means we probably won't get either of the fox girls involved everAnd yeah, it was absolutely rushed and badly done. Show needs to stop doing romance, it sucks at it.
-
I would prefer if they dropped it. If they made it official I would have to drop the show instead. It's become too in your face in the fourth season. As if the writers are finding every opportunity to pair Don and April on a mission. Forcing it just puts me off it more.
And I agree with the Mona Lisa thing. It seemed tacked on to give Raphael a girlfriend so they all had one. But it makes it more awkward for me in not only how quickly it occurred but the fact Raph is still 15 and I'm assuming Mona Lisa is a bit older, as in an adult.
-
Speaking of which, is Casey Jones still on this?
-
Speaking of which, is Casey Jones still on this?
He was in the episodes but he seems to be relegated to that awkward relative that visits when you don't want and whom hangs around in the background being annoying.
-
Casey is still there but most of the space arc it felt like he was more a contractual obligation to sell a toy than someone the writers actually wanted along.
-
You can pretty much say that about the entirety of the space arc to be fair.
-
I couldn't get int the Space Arc at all. They had just witness everything they loved gone in a flash… and as soon as they have 6 months they road trip and go on whacky adventures. It never felt urgent. It never felt right. If you put a timer on an event, you're gonna need that to be on their minds constantly. And there was too many fillers. Everything was conveniently written into place. This show isn't very character drive, its poorly plot driven. There's never really any breathing room for events to weigh on the Turtles. Its just that's what happen, quickly jump to the next plot point.
Romances which require bonding of characters make it even more clear.
-
The space arc the writers were clearly having some fun as fans of the various itterations. They snuck Armaggon and Bellybomb in there of all things, but yeah. Drama is not their strong point outside of maybe the Karai subplot. They skew way closer to the 89 show than the 03 show in that regard.
But yeah. As soon as it was revealed the thing was in three pieces, it was perfectly clear what direction the whole thing was going to go, right down to the turtles getting some of them and then losing them rather than destroying them while they had the chance.
Okay, sure, the things are nigh indestructible okay, fine, however implausible that is. But they'd probably be pretty hard to retrieve if they were dropped into three random suns, (or buried under rocks) and even you didn't bother writing down where. The universe is a biiig place. If you just hid the things randomly, rather than leaving them with chosen guards that someone knows about, they… remain lost. The quest really should have been over after they found the first piece.

I never understood why they would think it would be a good idea to put the pieces all in one spot. And it was clear that piece were really hard to get ahold of. With I believe at least one was hidden well enough that it was given to them as a gift. If they wanted to do a Space arc with a road trip vibe; why not have Splinter thrown into a portal by the Krang and the turtles have to search the cosmo's or have the Fugitoid need them for something, and on their way back they detour. I guess it would've felt even more fillerly.
I'm just happy that we're doing the "Back to the Sewers" styled season.
Also, I was super disappointed in the Crossover episode. The animation wasn't good on the 2D side of things, and it felt like a worse version of Turtles Forever.
On the bright side we did get Tokka and Mona Lisa in the show now. And April in her Yellow Jumpsuit.
-
You're being generous Robby they could've just given them a better reason to go into space besides the Triceratons going to
some asinine extremes just to wipe out the few kraang that exist in one city on the whole entire planet. And them going back
in time 6 months to prevent that along with some unnecessary assholery on Shredder's part. With some filler nonsense in between.
-

It's bothered me for like two years that we had Rahzar but not Tokka. Decent odds on him mutating at some point, though they already did that with Slash and they're not really doing "mutation of the week" like they used to.
And I just don't care about Mona Lisa. I would have much rather had Ninjara or Alopex. But given how the show is handling romance its probably for the best Raph doesn't get an actual long term girlfriend. (they could have also thrown Mona into the group and travelled with them all season to break up the dynamic a little and then not have to rush the kissy face nonsense, but whatever.)
Also, side note. I realize it was justified in that otherwise the Triceratons would wipe out all life on Earth, but the Turtles just killed a LOT of Triceratons.
-

Let's not forget the poor saps that got spaced in Annihilation Earth.
-
Well technically Fugitoid killed them ^__^;;;
Regarding the Donnie/April thing, even though they do end up paired off together frequently, I definitely feel that they've majorly toned down the one sided crush thing this season.
My biggest beef with the Space Arc was that they seemed like they were hinting at more story with Dregg, but ran out of time. That weird robot head thing scremed "foreshadowing plot point". But it's never brought up again and now hes a bugcicle floating in tje vastness of space.
-
My biggest beef with Dregg is that while most of the reimaginings have been okay, of unimportant one off characters, or better than the previous versions, not only was he a huge step down from the Tony Jay Dregg from the 87 series (or I guess the 94 series since it was basically a reimagined show at that point anyway)
but it was also a huge step down fromt he Archie comics Queen Maligna who was also a space bug queen. The Archie series is always going to be closest and dearest to me I guess and its a shame its bits don't get picked up on more, even though this series is showing a willingness to borrow from it at least a little. (I liked the Mirage stuff but it was simply harder to get attached to when there were like 20 real issues, and then a 40 issue multi-year streak of "completely random stories"… followed by stories that were fine but I absolutely hated the art on. ANd the 03 series pretty much took all those stories and added to them so... we have a definitive animated version anyway.)
...I'm still miffed the writer and artist couldn't get their act together to actually finish the Forever War for the 25th anniversary like they promised before Ncik went and bought the franchise.

New episodes are starting up again on August 14th on Nick.

I need to catch up on this series but I have no idea where I left off.
At any rate. I love this…

Has a season one villain changed into Rahzar? Then its season 2.
Have they gone to the farm for a bunch of episodes? Then its season 3.
Have they gone to outer space? Then its season 4.From there you can whittle it down to within a handful of episodes.

Uuuh…Guess I'm on season 1.
-
Oh so you're really far back then.
You may as well just start over from the beginning then.
-
Yeah I guess so. The trouble will be finding complete seasons. Hulu does that anmoying this of having the later half of seasons only.
-
You should check out Kisscartoon then. They have seasons 1-4 there.
I'm probably also at season 1 too. Well then, time play catch up.
-
Make sure your anti-viruses are running on full steam if you use kisscartoon.
-
I try to not watch anything on torrent or non legit streaming sites. Mostly cause my laptop is now dedicated to just playing ESO while I watch shows on my consoles.
-
Saw the new episode earlier as it is they're now adapting the City At War arc though with some slight changes.
This time pitting Karai against Shredder.
! Who fled the city after getting his ass kicked and is now hooked up to machines and sporting bandages over his face. And is apparently having Mutagen pumped into his body.
-
He's Here…..
! Super Shredder…..
!
