Found a few people upset about the Admiral dropping the F-bomb,
Tell them to grow the fuck up.
saying it isn't Star Trek and this Starfleet isn't Roddenberry's vision. But, people said that about DS9 and that's my favorite.
Then point out to them Gene was responsible for the first two seasons of TNG which were the BAD ones, and it was after illness took him out of production and he stopped having a role that the show actually got good. Many many super talented writers left the series because they couldn't deal with Gene constantly telling them that the main characters couldn't ever have conflict with one another.
Rodenberry's bright future is fantastic as an ideal, but its terrible as television. When none of the main cast is allowed to have any sort of emotion or feeling towards one another and everyone has to be sanctimonious about everything is just… not good.
Granted, Discovery went way too far in the opposite direction and was super grim dark and full of violence and rape and gore and surprise death, trying to be Game of Thrones, and that's too far the other direction.
