Agreed. This game is going to rule my summer.
Don't you mean your spring? unless they pushed the release into summer when I wasn't looking.

No, I mean I'll be playing the multiplayer well through summer.

Good guys Naughty Dog. The studio will release all content expansion maps and gameplay modes for free… For FREE!!!

The game is fantastic. My brother and I spent the weekend going though it, and were both immensely satisfied. It's the true successor to Uncharted 2. Uncharted 3 was pretty disappointing to me for many reasons, but Uncharted 4 is the complete opposite! I don't think I could have been happier with it. I'm excited to see what their story DLC is, especially with how things shake out in the main game. I also can't wait to dive back into the multiplayer after the servers go live! If you've got a PS4, this is the game to get.
-
Well I never got that hard drive upgrade I swore I was getting and now it's time for a new game that's gonna make things pretty awkward.
-
As someone who recently played all the previous Uncharted games, and was deeply bored by the generic dialogues, villains, gameplay, story and overall lack of any real interesting memorable thing in the games, and as someone who spend bashing over a year bashing Uncharted 4 for looking like a Michael-bayish action movie, i can certainly say that this game completely destroyed my initial opinion of it, and impressed the living fuck outta me. Everything from set-pieces, character interactions, whitty humor, story, characters, mature-character-designs, etcc….. just really impressed me and more importantly this game had a heart and soul, something that was greatly missing from the other games. At the end it made me care about everything that was happening in the game, instead of me just wanting to finish the game for the sake of it.
Neil Druckmann should be applause for his mature take on Uncharted games. I really doubted him to make me really care about Uncharted universe after the borefest of the previous games, but he went beyond my expectations, and made yet another masterpiece.
-
This game is the true sequel to Uncharted 2 that I've wanted for years. It is truly amazing.

If anyone wants to watch a loser play Uncharted 4 on hard mode, come hang out with me! https://www.twitch.tv/super_squishii

Playing it on crushing.
It is so delightful to play this sort of game again. Adventurous and whatnot. Great characters and great gameplay.
Did anyone manage to beat Elena's record?
I'm really curious to know if Naughty Dog has another game in the making. They managed to split into two teams, but then both game directors working on Uncharted 4 left and the Last of Us guys took over. I'm gonna go look at the reveal trailer.
-
Just finished the game.
I'm sad in a way that I am when a great movie franchise ends (and ends well). And this game was fantastic, gameplay and story. The ending scenes are marvelous.
-
Was very concerned through first six chapters–very on-rails, even by Uncharted standards, and reminiscent of U3–but man, once it gets going, it really gets going. Some parts of the storyline didn't work for me, but in terms of coherence, it's probably the best of the four (five?) games, and the last third in particular has some wonderful character development for long-time fans. Definite decrease in combat for exploration, which I personally didn't especially like, but it accomplishes what it wants to accomplish.
And, of course, it's gorgeous and has some of the best sound design of the series.
-
This was fun to watch. Made me remember how impressive the ship bit actually is especially with more technical knowledge now.
-
I love me some uncharted 4, but every time you helped sam climb up somewhere and he yelled that he would find a box or something for you I just wanted to yell: YOU HAVE GODDAMN ROPES! xD
-
^ It is nice to see that your partner AI still has better things to do than help you in a shoot out.
-
Finally beat the game and yep easily better than Uncharted 3, had some reservations about certain about certain parts in the story but aside from that all good.
Am curious to know what is this supposed story expansion supposed to be about though.
-
Not sure how many people here are still playing Uncharted 4, but next week ND is releasing the survival coop mode: http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/12/10/uncharted-4-survival-launching-next-week-livestream-precede/

Been working my way all the way through the Uncharted series (probably for the last time), and holy crap is Uncharted 3 terrible.
Hey, remember that there's a character named Salim? Anyone?

I definitely think it's by far the worst in the series, but I wouldn't call it terrible. But yeah, it has the worst melee combat, a story that sucks and doesn't feel like it justifies its length, and the least memorable characters, but the Drake flashback stuff is decent enough and it was extremely gorgeous when it came out. The multiplayer was also pretty good back then, but not as good as Uncharted 2's was. Anyway…
Uncharted 4 > Uncharted 2> Uncharted > Uncharted 3.
-
Uncharted 2>=U4 [still undecided]>Lost Legacy>U1 [though as a product of its time and first in series, it's pretty amazing]>Golden Abyss>>U3
U3 is incoherent and atrociously paced and the combat isn't good and Nate's horrible and…
But yeah, multiplayer was genuinely fun for a while.
-
I hated Uncharted 3 as well. Felt like a generic shooter and the story sucked. Sully only works as a supporting character.
Agree with the ranking too. Uncharted 1 had best Elena though. Always felt annoyed they changed her character to contrast her more with Chloe.
-
like, I'm perfectly fine with the fact that in U2, you never know why you are where you are or where you're going, because it's fun and the character interactions are good and there's a lot of variety. In U3, there's not a single through-line of any value.
WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE SHIP GRAVEYARD
sorry, I could legit rant about this game for days, and I say that as a massive fan of the series as a whole

Uncharted 1 is so good, but really hard to play now because of certain design choices and lack of polish compared to other games in the series, but I'd love a real remake of it, though I'm not sure if that's something I'd actively champion to be created.

It's got some really uneven pacing and massive difficulty spikes, but yeah, the core is so solid. Plus Nazis and zombies.
But don't ever expect to see another remake. Bluepoint pretty much built it from scratch for the Uncharted Collection, and think that pretty much renders it one of the least likely games in the entire Sony catalog to get another remake.
-
The most charming part of Uncharted 1 is that it has one or two parts where you have to use the Sixaxis controller.

I remember Charlie….and Chloe who weirdly disappear after the first few chapters never to be seen again.....or at least in Chloe's case til UNC4's spinoff.
The most charming part of Uncharted 1 is that it has one or two parts where you have to use the Sixaxis controller.
Which (unfortunately) for one of those parts involves about two or so chapters featuring enemies who love to grab you and can kill you if they do (and happen to have a sixaxis with a non working motion sensor)
WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE SHIP GRAVEYARD
Ask Amy Henning and whoever okayed that dumb segment of chapters.

It is exceedingly weird that Charlie almost completely disappears. Though I think he gets a cursory mention in the epilogue of U4?
Ask Amy Henning and whoever okayed that dumb segment of chapters.
I really do want to know what her version of Uncharted 4 would be; bless her forever for giving us Uncharted 2, but U3 is so bad I get the decision, especially if U4 was trending in that direction. Feel like there's a whole lot of skeletons buried behind NDAs over at Naughty Dog.

Yeah that would be an interesting read in light of all these other developer post mortems we get involving failed games or dead/fractured studios.
-
I don't think any of the Uncharted stories are good until 4. Everything before then felt like a mediocre spin on underdeveloped characters/relations for a B-list ripoff of Indiana Jones. Not that I disagree with 3 having the weakest story.
-
Uncharted has always been that mediocre series that people love to wank for some reason.
Uncharted 4 was miles better than any of the previous games and the characters actually had depth and personality instead of the cookie-cutter one-note they were and the lore was actually interesting and not an after-thought.
I for one am glad that Amy never got to touch Uncharted 4 as she couldn't write decent characters for shit.
-
I wouldn't really say Rafe of all the characters introdeced in 4 had depth to him he was just a rich evil asshole who wanted to become an even more rich evil asshole not unlike Gabriel Roman, except he doesn't get killed by his right hand man.
And for all it's good points Thief's End wasn't without it's writing flaws like the Hector Alcazar ass pull and depending on who you ask Nate having a brother who was never mentioned previously.
-
I agree that Sam's introduction is an asspull or the Hector Alcazar nonsense. But for what the story did with a cliche like Nate having a long lost brother, it was moderately entertaining and profound. Which is much more than I can say about any of the plotlines in the previous games.
To be fair, are any of the villains in Uncharted good characters? I think only Nadine counts because she gets to become a protagonist. And even though I could care less about Rafe, unlike the rest of the antagonists, he has the slightest bit of depth implemented in how he hates being looked at as his father's privileged son, is insecure about Drake's accomplishments, and had spats with Nadine. None of that was stellar writing, but it makes everybody else in the original trilogy look like cardboard.
It's not that I even find Uncharted 4's story to be great or anything, but it's the first time that the writers felt like… they were actually trying to tell a decent story. You know, where characters grow, relationships are formed and tested, meaningful recurring morals/themes, and lore that was actually interesting and had built-up payoff. Instead of only having two-dimensional personalities, most of the character bonding being formed off-screen or in flashbacks, plot-twists for the sake of plot-twists, and random excuses for huge action set pieces. The end result for Uncharted 4 is only decent for me, but that still feels miles ahead in ambition compared to the PS3 games.
And I can't stress enough that the dichotomy between 4 and the original trilogy is only because 4 felt like it at least... TRIED. Tried to tell a memorable story instead of just an Indiana Jones knockoff experience.
The fact that 4 is the one story that doesn't try to pull some out-of-nowhere "THE LOST CIVILIZATION IS HAUNTED" twist in and of itself shows that, for once, the writers tried to make you care about the characters and plot build-up for investment instead of relying on shiny bells and whistles with shallow "realistic" threats/dialogue to seem appealing.
What's weird is that I think Uncharted 3 tried to attempt a tolerable story too with Nate and Sully's relationship, or at least looked like it, but hardly ever capitalizes on making their bond meaningful in present-time, only in those intro flashbacks and a couple lines from Elena whining about how Sully should retire and you're pushing him too hard.
-
oh, goodie, discussing Uncharted again.
I have no particular fondness of Indiana Jones (like the Sean Connery one though). So Uncharted was my Indiana Jones, so to speak. The quality has fluctuated here and there but, I absolutely love story games like these. The story may not always be the best but I'm nonetheless watching interesting character do stuff and interact - and Naughty Dog is absolutely the best at this.
Uncharted1: Replayed the collection, and this one's definitely the oldest of the four in terms of gameplay mechanics, story and so on. It's still great but certainly is more of an experiment and a transition game from the Jak games.
Uncharted2: I believe I have 100% trophies on this one on PS3, and I finished it in one sitting in Remastered. I loved it then and I love it now. It obviously lacks the sort of depth that Uncharted 4 gave to Nate and is for the most part just a straightforward treasure hunt but, I dunno, it just clicks with me. I love Nate, I love the side characters, I love the pacing and the various locals. I'm just never bored. And I even find myself rooting for Nate and Elena.
Uncharted3: I recall my first impression of it being that … the guns seemed awfully loud, when shooting. And the very first gameplay piece as adult drake was a fist fight, which was a recurring gameplay element - that was no fun. Then, yeah, that shipyard sequence that did not fit into the story at all. I recall at once two times where Nate was drugged and hallucinated, and that was boring and just a pain to go through. Not particularly easy on the eyes either.
In retrospect it was trying to do what Uncharted 4 succeeded at: giving Nathan some depth and trying to answer why he does what he does. It tried, and it's not boring or anything, it just doesn't deliver in the end.
Uncharted4: Just like Uncharted 2 I absolutely love this one. Rounded it 4 times by now I believe.
- What I love about the flashback sequences is that they're there to show what inspired Nate and Sam to become treasure hunters, while simultaneously using the elderly woman to show where such a life could potentially lead them.
- Rafe was an alright villain. He got better toward the end when you realize it's not just about glory for him but also, his jealousy of Nate and his accomplishments.
- As in all recent Uncharted games I'm always fond of having companions, and we got Sam, Sully, Elena that tag along.
- The epilogue was fantastic. It's bittersweet but, it's just great ending.
- I've always loved Elena, because she's just a real person. A lot of writers - too many writers - try to make a character badass and just end up stripping all personality from them in the process. That's my main problem with the rebooted Tomb Raider series.
- When I first saw that the gameplay was going to be set in a jungle again I was sort of disappointed because we've already been there in Uncharted 1, but oh boy, I was wrong. It's visuals are breathtaking. Discovering (even after several play-throughs) this pirate safe haven and reading notes and hearing stories about what happened and how they all turned against each other is so much fun.
What's interesting about Uncharted 4 is that it was Amy Henning's game originally, and then the Uncharted guys (one of whom worked on Uncharted 2) took over and finished it. Originally Sam was supposed to be the villain, angry that Nathan left him in prison, and then later has a change of heart and turns against Rafe. And much more.
-
Just finished Lost Legacy (and by extension, my last Uncharted re-run). Have to say, think the biggest problem with Lost Legacy is they released it too early. Think if it was released now, there'd be a lot of folk who'd be thrilled with it. It's a very solid (if shorter) Uncharted game with some great setpieces and a more coherent-than-usual story and even has some concepts that would have been welcomed in the other games, i.e. Western Ghats. Think it mostly got dismissed because of its relative proximity to U4, with which it obviously has a ton in common.
