I'm already expecting something like the Gundam Frames secretly having malevolent AI, so something like that won't be too far out of left field for me. As long as they don't pull a 00 and make the second season more "typically" Gundam we should be okay. Hopefully they'll continue to hold off on laser-based weapons, because the comparatively low-tech mobile suit tech was my favorite departure from the norm. Save laser guns, beam sabers, drone bits, and any other typical Gundam gimmick for the final boss if they have to have them and I think we'll be good.

Shows like that go by unnoticed every year.
It seems we're in luck this time. A second season has just been announced. :-)

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu was damn near perfect and I'm really looking forward to act 2. Just such a good show, more people need to watch it.
What a weird time we live in where 2 of the best shows this season are produced by Studio Deen

Erased was a huge disappointment, what a waste of time.
On the other hand, the anime I enjoyed the most was clearly Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. -
The last 2 episodes of Ajin changed my mind. I'll put it in my High tier. Satou is amazing.

It’s the kind of story where the villain has the best role

What do you mean? Pretty curious about this.

Erased was a huge disappointment, what a waste of time.
On the other hand, the anime I enjoyed the most was clearly Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.Agreed! While the beginning was exciting, it got slow, and direction-less really fast. Not to mention that the characters are every bit as generic as they can really get with the story having TWO abusive sibling/parent as a plot device which is as lazy as writers can get. The villain was obvious from the start, and he was in no way interesting or memorable. A good-looking guy who seems good but is evil? And the main character who seems like a loser but wants to do something good? Where have we seen that before?
To see this over-hyped mediocrity getting this much attention while something like Rakugo stays underrated, despite being an excellent anime that certainly does everything better than Erased, just feels wrong.

Well there are not many likeble character on the supposed good size (Ajin is very grey). And Satou is so crazy and yet clever that he steals the show.

Where did you get that impression? Since the beginning of the season everyone and their mother (here on AP, ANN etc.) states that Rakugo is a very good show that has to be watched. Recently it even got a second season confirmed.

Ap nor ANN are the biggest anime sites. Myanimelist is one of the biggest and Rakugo is extremely underrated there with only 10 K users watching it or plan to compare to Erased which has over 100 K.
And that's not even it. Everywhere i went to, i see Erased while only hand full people are talking about it even on this site.

Rakugo was that one about traditional Japanese plays right?

Japanese storytelling to be more precise. But the story surrounding it, the human aspect, makes it so much more enticing.

Ah. The first episode did not grab my interest. I only watched it in the first place cause most of you seemed to love it and usually I like what people here recommend lol. But it just seemed too ordinary of a story. I don't mind slice of life (not sure if that's the genre), but I like humor in those scenarios. Nor do I enjoy just flat out drama. Erased at least had a bit of supernatural elements to it and the mystery.
If I'm not really a fan of the Japanese storytelling should I give it another shot? Are there more interesting characters that show up?

It starts to get really good once the flashback kicks in. At around episode 3 or 4. The first couple episodes are about Yotaro, rakugo, Yakumo, the red-headed woman and just a little bit of exposition really. Once the flashback starts though, things get really interesting and one of the best chars (Sukeroku) shows up.
Edit: Okay, I looked it up. The first episode is 40+ minutes long and at its end Yakumo sits down to tell the flashback, which starts in episode 2 respectively 3 (i.e. the very next one).

Initially i was thinking of reading the manga before watching the anime but now im starting to feel like doing it the other way around this time.

I finished Rakugo over the last weekend and it's easily one of the best shows of the last few years. I genuinely wish there were more quality drama Japanese cartoons. I know the show is baller when simple dialogue between characters is enough for me to get enthralled. It helps that it is measured and grounded, as even the scenes that could be classified as melodramatic are incredibly tame by anime standards. It also helps that characters are well-rounded human beings instead of being archetypes.
It's Ping Pong tier.
The fact that we are getting more is some late Christmas miracle.
