Tri Abridged Episode 4
-
This post is deleted!
-
Tri part 5 is up on Crunchyroll. Also, Digimon Universe Applimon is ending tomorrow.
I watched the first episode of Applimon, and it seems alright.
-
So the last episode is out. Man, this was a messy story overall. I’m just gonna convince myself the abridged version is the real version and wait for that.
-
I, like probably many here watched the Fox Digimon during the golden age of anime in the West, it was good hell I loved it, but I was never attached to it, so Tri seemed quite interesting to me, I loved the more mature art style, and the fact they gave everyone mega forms (except no Ophniamon go fuck yourself) and the overall melancholy story.
Seems that was the minority view though, cause man people seem to HATE Tri. Anyone care to fill me in?

Nah, not really. I too enjoyed the hell out of it. I also wasn't expecting anything superb animation wise, this being Toei. The reception in Japan at least was beyond great, I don't know about the West, but let me just say that many that hate it aren't doing it for the show itself but for other reasons. Fandoms are the worst, to summarize.
-
I was gonna express my views but apparently I’m doing it due to my own issues. So it’s perfect. 10/10.
I’m not discomforted by the extreme focus on a new character and her Digimon that ends up not being part of the group by the end of the movie instead of the group of 8 we grew to know and care about from the original series.
The whole becoming Ken/Dark Gennai bit wasn’t jarring, nor was it not explained at all.
Maki totally got a satisfying resolution despite being the one that essentially caused the events.
The Digimon affected like Alphamon or the Impaeildrampn definitely fit within the story and didn’t come out of nowhere and had solid resolutions.
Takeru’s first mega evolution wasn’t arbitrary at all.
And Hikari’s development was par for the course for Digimon.
-
Adventure tri. felt off to me from the start. I don't understand why you would do a revival anniversary series that neither looks nor feels nor even really resembles the property it's reviving.
And the story was an absolute mess that I could barely follow at all. Dropped plot points all over the place. Random, unexplained Gennai/Ken/whatever. Strangely lengthy evolution sequences at awkward times, matching the super poor fight choreography. It felt like it was directed by someone who had never seen Digimon, or a movie, before.
Speaks to how much I cared for Digimon Adventure that I actually stuck with this for over two years, or that I'll probably watch whatever's coming next.
-
Wait… wait... WAIT. So Magnadramon was actually Tailmon's Mega???
... I actually like that. Ophanimon is cool and all and would keep the pair theme with Patamon, but since they already gave Magnadramon as her mega maaaaany years ago, I would kinda feel bad for the big pink lion-dragon if they threw it away like that.
-
This was probably the darkest entry in the frachise, even more son than Tamers.
-
Appli Monsters was a much better series IMO.
-
This series was hot trash
-
Kinda weird how we never really saw Daisuke, Miyako, Iori and Ken (the real one) except for the small cameos in the first movie. Honestly hated Tailmon's final form being Holydramon, Ophanimon is much better suited for her…
Overall I really enjoyed it although none of the movies were perfect of course. Hated Mei, loved seeing all the old chosen children again. Would have been a nicer ending to show an epilogue like 02 with them grown up (not the part about everyone in the world having a partner though) -
The writers totally forgot that about the 02 kids until the last minute.
And Magnadramon sucks. Ophanimon4lyfe.
-

So where they in the movie or not?
-
Beast type digimons needs more love. And MagnaDramon came first you nerds.
-
There are enough dangling plot threads to make room for something else. The question is, how much potential there's left in the original digistined? Should a new cast take over from there, I wonder.

By the by, Seki Hiromi is returning and will work in the new project, whatever it may be.

They were not, they were just briefly mentioned.
LAMO
I bet in the new hinted series they won’t be in as well
-
It’s actually rather messed up when thinking about it (the 02 kids)
! they essentially go missing for days, yet no one seems worried about it. Think the second episode said Maki’s organization said they were watching over them to Matt, but is that what they told their parents? Do their parents even care? The digidestined barely seemed phased by the whole thing.
-
The plot was all over the place, I think we all can agree with that. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable albeit a bit contrived experience, that I expect some payoff from in this new it appears Adventure centric related project that is on the way.
-
Yeah… not gonna lie. This story is ridiculous to me. Seems that the powers that be on this show basically just decided to make more money by taking the characters and putting them in a pointless story with the only requirement being that no matter what happens, they have to end up exactly were they started.
-
For all we know this whole set of movies might just be some kind of prologue that precedes a more grand story. At least this is what I think when I look at all the dangling plot threads that were purposely left unanswered. Even Demon's name was dropped at the end.
-
If I think too hard about this film series I get seriously pissed off. GARBAGE

Part of me hopes that is true, and part of me hopes it is not. I think the thing that I just outright disliked about these movies was that several characters they all but turned their personalities 180 degrees. Heck one of those is even opening stated to be evil now for no reason of their own. Just didn't sit well with me.

You are free to dislike that, but people change as they grow up. I wasn't bothered, in part because I already anticipated.

It's very easy to miss, but the mistery concerning the evil Gennai is already answered.
! It's because he's not the original one. The real Gennai was shown contained in a life support pod, along with the 02 squad, in that underground lab.
-

Absolutely people can change, mature, and learn as the grow, but at least from my perspective the things they did with some of the personalities of the destined were worse cases of what they were shown to have learned to grow past during their earlier adventure. Joe not to worry so much about things. Izzy not to be so caught up in technology that he ignores people. Mim not to be so caught up on herself. Tai to temper his enthusiasm with Wisdom (ok that one I will give as a logical progression), etc. Just seemed to me that they regressed them instead of progressing them.
Still you are right to say that it is only my opinion, and I respect that yours differs.
It's very easy to miss, but the mistery concerning the evil Gennai is already answered.
Yeah I did miss that. Thanks for pointing it out.

I wound up watching the last batch all in one go. Man what a downer of a series. I'm now also feeling they changed the character designs too much from the original series. It's especially funny when they have pictures on their desks of their old designs. It's so wonky and out of place.
Also Yamato thanks to Elon now has a chance to go to Mars lol.

You should really check out Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.
It's way better and less depressing. -
So, for the 20th anniversary celebration they're doing a new Digimon movie, this time with Tai and the rest finally grown up.
Here is a sneak peak for 22 years old Taichi and Yamato.Really hope 02 kids aren't ignored this time around, but I won't mind if they don't get any spotlight.
-
22? They should be 32 by now. Or More I don't want to do math.
-
They were 17 in Tri, which took place in '05, I think, so they should be 30 if it took place this year, but I guess this will take place in 2010, 11 years after the original series.
Edit: The ages going from Adventure>02>Tri>This new movie should be like this judging by Matt and Tai:
- Joe - 12, 15, 18, 23
- Tai, Matt, Sora - 11, 14, 17, 22
- Izzy, Mimi, Meiko - 10, 13, 16, 21
- Yolei - 9, 12, 15, 20
- TK, Kari, Davis, Ken - 8, 11, 14, 19
- Cody - 6, 9, 12, 17
-
02 kids are most likely dead
-
They were killed by star wars fans.
-
Hiruluk would say a person doesn't die when they are killed, but when they are forgotten.
So yeah, they are dead.
I don't think they ever weren't, btw.
-
So did Tai get together with movie girl? Cause I think Mat and Sora was canon right?
-
It says "movie", but is just one this time or there's gonna be more? Coz I think one won't be enough to cover all the loose ends.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So did Tai get together with movie girl? Cause I think Mat and Sora was canon right?
Why the insistence?
-
So. Finally watching the Tri movies.
Who though it would be a good idea to have an entire series of films based on digimon, that were slow paced, somber, depressing, desaturated color pallette, about the characters hating their lives and being super bitter, never interacting anymore, and spending well over an hour in the third movie debating the fact they might need to murder their sentient pets?
Like, I can see exploring some of these things, but how do you get the tone and feel SO wrong and miss every single thing that was fun about the series, while STILL having the brightly colored critters running around… but almost as a footnote in their own movies?
! Did they really need to murder Leomon again? AGAIN???

! Leomon is the Sean Bean of his universe.
-
i feel like they looked at Tamers and went like "yeah we can be dark and serious" and ignored all the lighthearted and hopeful moments in Tamers that balanced the mood and made the characters endearing
-
I was optimistic about Tri for the first two movies and thought the third one was genuinely good, if… extremely hard to watch... Then from Loss onwards, everything just fell apart as the millions of unresolved mysteries started getting downright obnoxious (02 KIDS. That is all) and the overall pacing went to complete shit. It was probably at its absolute worst in 4 specifically, with the story at several points just changing locations or throwing us into scenes without establishing anything, (Two points in particular: Suddenly the fake Digimon Kaiser is just in the scene when up till that point the scene focused on Meicoomon, and suddenly the kids are on a ship which we never saw them find) and yet it wasted more time than ever before on stock transformation scenes. Then the fifth one, where the stakes should be high from the first moment, wastes like half its runtime on fluff, and then the final movie rushedly wraps up some of the mysteries, mostly in the most anticlimactic way possible, (Again, 02 KIDS. That is all) while leaving half of it unresolved for a sequel that… Honestly, does anybody want more of this at this point?
I mean I hear that the next sequel will be bringing in staff from the first TV-series, so maybe it'll be good this time…? But after how spectacularly they botched these movies I can't say I'm enthusiastic.

At least that four minute clip showing the backstory of the four soverigns was good.
You should watch Appmon, it's way better.

Hey! You know what everyone loves? Reboots!
