Was the girl with the glasses supposed to be Yolei?
That's Meiko, a new character. She's transferred to Taichi's class, and is stated to play a key-part in the story.

-
Say hello to the two new members of the Original Chosen: Meiko and her digimon partner Meikomon.
-
Mimi and Izzy are together?
That new digimon is cool looking.
-
Mimi and Izzy are together?
Just in case, the perspective is misleading, they are not holding hands actually. But it's not like we don't know that, yes, they are in a relationship (you can see Mimi playing around with Izzy while she addresses to him in a sweet and almost lovey-dovey tone in one of the PVs).
That new digimon is cool looking.
Couldn't agree more, he/she looks badass as fuck.
-
We already have a cat.
-
The first five minutes of the movie are a good appetizer of the darker and edgier this season is gonna be.
! The ominous narration, the creepy foreshadowing, and the random shots showing the 02 cast being brutalized by Alphamon.
-
So Crunchyroll picked this up: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-927739/crunchyroll-presents-digimon-adventure-tri
The first four episodes of Digimon Adventure Tri will be available starting 7:00am PST on Friday, November 20th in the following regions: United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America.
Hype!
-
What do they mean by 'the first four episodes'?
Is crunchyroll splitting the movie into four parts?
Because I thought Tri was a 6 film series.
Anyways.
OMG YAAAAAAAS

Yeah, seems they are splitting the first film into 4 20-minute "episodes". They did something similar with Tsuki/Hana-monogatari too.
-
That's great! So we don't have to wait for the DVD/BD releases or anything.

Ah I don't remember seeing that in the preview.
We already have a cat.
But not a tiger.
-
As far as I know they aren't actually together together but it was hinted at that Izzy has a crush on Mimi.
-
Less than 45 minutes left omg.
-
Is already out! XD XD XD
-
I really enjoyed that. Especially "episode 2". Great fights, the interactions with the characters were fun and there's an interesting character conflict brewing up with Tai. So, I feel like it's good, which is nice.
Also, it was a nice nostalgia bomb as a side bonus. The opening and ending and insert songs.
-
We already have a cat.
Well, we already had an angel… maybe Tailmon's thing is recycling themes.
Although it will probably make me even more uneasy with the fact Kari's digimon is always in champion state instead of rookie as the others (Plotmon would make the group of 9 look better with just one cat).
-
Ok, I've watched it and I'm absolutely disappointed with the animation. You can clearly see it's Toei. Nice, flawless backgrounds which is cool and all but if the characters looks off most of the time it's just not enough for me.
Story for me is alright so far. I wished to see more raw emotions. most of the times the synchro work is acted out so nicely but the animation can't hold up with the emotion expressed in the voice. And now begins the waiting game anew.
I don't like Meiko. We don't need you, go away! It's already hard enough to focus on the original 8, one more taking the focus away from that sucks.
Also, calling it now. Meiko is Jou's mysterious Girlfriend :P
And the gayness is strong in Taichi and Jamato. I'm joking, I'm joking! But come on..
If I was to reunite with my digimon, it would be more then just a "Hi hug ok, done" thing. Or if I saw a friend again with whom I saved the world after years of not seeing her..
But overall I liked Mimi's character a lot again. No mentioning of the zero two kids irks me as well
-
Huh. When talking about the animation, I thought the fights were especially excellent compared to anything related to that stuff in the older series? Even the ugly-looking CG those series had was done considerably better here (even if it still stood out). It looked really good compared to stuff Toei usually puts out - it didn't look amazing, but at least solid.
-
look at the t-rex hand.overall the animation got better in the second half. especially in the beginning you have lots of anatomy problems, weird motions, eyes that look off cuz placed wrongly and overall just stuff like that.
But don't get me wrong, the fight sequences and the digimon were rly nice, the humans are the problems
-
sighs I know, I'm an animation bitch. My standards are just too high :P
-
it never seemed OP anime or Sailor Moon Crystal level of animation, though. I think that's why I was surprised by it. I can say it looked "good" for the most of it. The original Digimon Adventure seasons looked like butt, too. The finales for those series almost entirely consisted of reused footage and the fights in those series were generally stills. So to see these fights fluidly animated is a real treat.
In fact the whole thing is a simple "decent" from me. It's decent fanservice for old fans and so far holds together just fine. The characters feel like the characters, the music's nice etc. I feel even Meiko is nicely handled because she doesn't steal the spotlight from the old cast. She's just another character. The main character focus goes to Tai here+reintroducing the whole old cast and I'm fine with that.
-
Well, I don't want "good" or "decent" I want perfect :P Might be a bad example but look at Haikyuu. Haikyuu in my books is rly good animation wise and even that DOES have its flaws but it's never Toei bad. And yeah, for Toei this actually is pretty good but I'd never compare it to the first digimon because it has been 15years. Animation changed since then. should have changed since then. Other studios are just so much better and I think I need to learn to live with it. It just simply irks me to see bad animation in this time and age. Can't help it, I'm a capricorn and perfectionist through and through, haha.
-

Actually my reaction went from :D to D: because I am really picky when it comes to animation, at least in a movie, so I'll probably be just as disappointed.
-
Honestly the last fight scene was pretty meh to me.
The best moments are the kids interacting with which other. -

Finally a friend!!

Honestly, I'm just generally surprised it's good. At some point as a kid I kind of wanted the second season to revolve around the original cast because I grew to like them across the original Adventure. So this is cool.
Stuff like Tai making fun of Matt's band name, Tai and Matt bickering while Izzy goes on about science stuff, Joe having a girlfriend, the whole team getting together again. It's all good and fun character stuff.
The nostalgia part was definitely when Agumon first showed up and digivolved. It's like a storm of nostalgia right in your face, followed by a very well animated action scene for viewing pleasure.
-
I liked it. The animation was really nice. The final fight was a bit awkward with them going through all of Agumon and Gabumon's forms so quickly. And it was also odd that the 02 characters weren't even mentioned by the others. We see TK warn the Digi Destined around the world and they meet a new one, too, but not one mention of them.
But I really loved seeing these guys together again. It was really fun.

I enjoy the special my biggest issue was how they gave less attention to Omegamon vs Alphamon than to the freaking Kwagamon and obviously the giant plot hole that is , the S2 kids not being here, I need my Veemon and my Wormmon, it just makes no sense that they aren't appearing, if this was set pre S2 sure but nope this isn't, like at the end them talking about "oh our group is growing" and I'm like, yeah your group is a lot bigger than that, call the other 5 kids.
Seems Veemon has been promoted lately along with the S1 digimon so hopefully the S2 kids will appear in the next movies, Bamco main digimon to milk after Agumon and Gabumon is usually Veemon so I'm hopeful.
Also was I the only that was like "Please punch him, please punch him, please punch him!" everytime Yamato was with Taichi after the whole Kwagamon thing?
Edit: Wait I just rewatched the first episode and noticed the S2 kids do appear, when Taichi is having vibes or dreams or wtv is happening see them being defeated, their digivices and everything, so the S2 kids went to stop Alphamon first and got beaten, I definetly think they will appear now, its still a plot hole that they didn't call the others to see if they were save/could help and its the same for the other going just the 4 of them instead of calling the rest of the group.
-
Character interactions are the best part of the movie. Seeing T.K. and Kari interact with the rest of the kids as equals is great. Digimon have more, I don't know…weight in the movie. The pre-Omegamon fights felt raw, I love it. Nice touch having goggles that do something.
Bit disappointed the kids didn't question the mysterious government agency keeping tabs on them. Or, that same organization not interviewing the kids about everything they know about digimon and the Digital World.
There has to be a logical reason for not calling the 02 kids. Please let there be a logical reason for not calling the 02 kids. And please don't turn this into the Omegamon Movie featuring the Other DD Digimon. I want all the DD digimon to go mega. Overall, I'm completely on board and looking forward to the next movie/episodes.

Gave it a watch. Spoiler filled thoughts in the spoiler tag. I'm already impatient for the 2nd film.
! plot
! Did we ever get an explanation for how the kid's Digimon got to the Digital World? I don't think it was through the same portals as the Kuwagamon, otherwise why didn't they get mutated too?
! And for the live feed of the Digimon fights, why weren't the kids on screen or recorded? I realize the focus would be on the monsters, but they were close enough I think to at least be mentioned…
! Ending digivolution didn't make sense, but I'll cut the film slack and hope that they'll be explained later.
! As for the 02 kids, the series must have something in store since they were seen in the beginning, TK/Kari have the D3s, TK emails the Digidestined around the world, and the image where the Agency was keeping track of all the 02 kids had their status as Unknown.
! Speaking of that page, I didn't get the best look at it, but it seemed like the only people on there were the Original Digidestined and the 02 kids (and I spotted Cody twice). But if the Digidestined of the world do exist, does that mean the Agency is tracking them too?
! And about that Agency, I realize Data Squad did this already (and techncially Tamers too), but why aren't the Digidestined working or trying to work with the Agency and visa-versa? The Digidestined are clearly the Agency's best hope, and obviously are more used to dealing with the Digimon situation. Likewise, the Agency probably has the resources to allow for Izzy to come up with ideas on a large scale, so why not collaborate? I guess the implication was the Agency didn't want the help of children and only wanted their help as a last resort, but even so, that's rather silly.
! I couldn't help but notice the goggles were kinda useless. By the time Tai appeared to notice the issue, it already created a huge phenomenon that would've been noticed by anyone anyways.
! And since I brought up Data Squad, I half expected Tai to try to punch the Kuwagamon in the face.
characters
! It's weird that Tai's "maturing" in that he realizes the true implications of their battles now. True courage is being truly aware of the dangers but doing the right thing anyways, so it makes sense for him to go through this arc. I guess it's just odd how Tai/Matt have to go through tribulations for their crest's quality, but others like Izzy/Mimi just ooze their crest quality. That said, I did find he was being kinda dickish to Matt in the beginning with the pepper and the teasing about his band. It's friendly bantering I guess given the two foils, but it still seemed excessive, but maybe it has to do with Sora?
! Matt's still Matt. Tai's foil, brooding "cool" type. I'm also curious about the music thing. I couldn't pinpoint if we're supposed to understand why Matt's band broke up and got back together.
! Given the 02 season, I would've thought the "love triangle" was over. But it looked like Tai was trying to avoid Matt/Sora when Matt was asking Sora to come to her band. And then Tai asked Sora last minute to his game. And obviously Sora's flustered about the whole thing. I wish I could talk about Sora more than just a love triangle, but they didn't give her much to work with this film. And the show is still teasing Matt/Tai for the fans out there so it's extra rough on her.
! Izzy also got a large part of his story being about his crush on Mimi, but the only thing I don't like is the excessiveness of it, but it makes sense that Izzy would react every time Mimi would get near. Plus, they did a lot more with him being a genius and building the server space for the Digimon, the goggles, and the dress 'em up computer program (That better become a thing in real life, dress up the Digidestined). And he was given a bunch of comedic scenes, between his over politeness making him try to keep up a conversation with Sora while making orders for his parent's anniversary, the bloodshot eyes for working all night, and droning on about his findings when no one was listening (then stopping because of Joe's revelation lol).
! Mimi is still Mimi and I love that about her. Shame she/Palmon got slightly less screentime (one fight absent) than the rest.
! Joe (and Gomamon) got the super short end. They're likely setting something up in future films, but it's been rough to see him struggling in his classes to the point where he's not even participating in the events. At least he has a girlfriend that no one believes he has. Shame too since Gomamon has the most personality of the Digimon.
! TK/Kari were pretty much given the same roles. Friendly face. Supportive younger sibling. Kari's popular with Tai's team, and still goes to friend's birthday parties, which I like to think was a callback to the Digimon film where Omegamon first appeared. And TK's popular enough to invite a female friend to Matt's concert and became a hipster. Given the shipping going around in the film, I'm surprised at how they handled TK/Kari. We never see Kari's face when she first found out about TK bringing a female friend to the concert. Same with TK when he asked her straight up if she was jealous. We don't see their initial reaction to the news. Given the conversations though, they don't seem to be angling their relationship as a romance to gossip about like they're doing for the other digidestined. And of course, it's the one relationship I am invested in so yeah.
! Meiko seems like the Audience Surrogate for the shy introverts that wanted to be a part of the Crew as a kid. It's cool since a shy introvert type isn't really how you would describe any of the Digidestined or the 02 kids. Maybe Ken, but he was more embarrassed to hang out with them given their history than anything else. I do agree though that Gatomon filled the role of the cat and wished it was something else.
! Does Meicoomon have an evolution that's important to the Digimon lore?
! The Digimon not mentioned were more or less the same. And I'm bummed we didn't see Matt's dad. Here's hoping we do later. -
My childhood memories are flooding in.
-

Well we will see by the next poster, the first seems to focus on Omegamon and Alphamon, from what we know from sketches it seems we will see Zudomon and Heraklekabuterimon so all the kids will have their last stage digimon I assume, we still have 20 episodes left if its 4 episodes each movie, so plenty of time.
-
I'ts been a long time since I enjoyed the hell out of a Digimon season, and Tri is truly delivering what I wanted too feel!!
And unlike many others, I understand Taichi's angst. He's grown up, he now has a broader perspective on society and realizes that with great power comes great responsibility. It made a lot of sense what he's going through. It will make for some really important character development.
Not surprised the 02 kids weren't even mentioned. This show is entirely about the original digistined plus the new member. They will most likely play a role in the plot and we're going to get an explanation on why no one has mentioned them, but for now they are just there to drop like flies.
-
Watched it and, I will not lie, I disliked it. A lot.
As much as I would love for 02 to be cutted out from the chronology and pretend it never happened, tri supposedly aknowledges its existence (we see Daisuke's group being defeated by Alphamon and their names appear in that woman's computer, TK and Kari also have their new digivices). So it doesn't make any sense for any of the kids to not even mention their existence. It's like they completely forgot those for existed in the first place, not even TK and Kari remember them.
That can be explaned, sure. Maybe something like Sugar's devil fruit happened and the memories about them were erased? Maybe. But even if that is fixed, the overall behavior of the characters is really off, nothing makes much sense in tri.
And I think TOEI failed incredibly hard in handling what should be the focus of the first episodes: the kids and the digimon meeting again. I was expecting an emotional scene, with a lot of tears, warm and long embraces, but instead what we got was Tai, Mimi and Joe acting as if they were meeting a friend who was gone for just a few days… and those were the "good" reactions because we didn't got even that from the other kids, it was just a "hey, look, they are back". -
Because some people asked for the 02 cast, I bring to you the promotional poster for the 2nd part, that among other things, is the confirmation that everybody is going Ultimate level. The title is "Determination".
Imperialdramon has been corrupted by the unknown virus.

Is that Vikemon by any chance?

And they are gonna go with Rosemon....meh.:getlost:

Vikemon _ Hope they remember to include Ikkakumon in the opening this time…
Good to know the new evolutions are already coming in the next act. I need to get ready to fangasm over HeraklesKabuterimon...

I feel like the opening Champion cameos was made specifically from footage from the film itself, so that kinda explains Ikkakumon…
In fact, that's why I'm glad and not surprised Mimi/Joe got the cover for the next movie given the duo and their Digimon got the shaft this time around.
-
Watched it. Wasn't disappointed because it definitely brought back the nostalgia factor, but some moments did need some tweaking in my opinion, like:
! I feel that the characters lacked emotion. Like when Mimi shows up out of no where and is so happy to see everyone and the rest of the group just stands there like o_o. Ya I understand you're in the middle of a warzone but can't someone act happy that she's there?
! Taichi's trauma wasn't handled very well. Every time he had a traumatic moment the same few pictures would flash by.. I would've liked to see him actually show a little more emotion.. It just wasn't a convincing performance.
! Oh and the scene where Izzy is explaining the techy stuff while everyone talks over him wasn't funny, it was kind of rude :/Overall it was good and I'll definitely watch the second one.

I agree with all of this and want to bring up that HIKARI was the one starting it talking over Izzy. Like.. KARI OF ALL PEOPLE!
And it was also way too weird that Koushiro just kept on continuing even when shouts started. He only stopped when Jo brought up his gf. He's probably texting Jo a lot now asking how he can advance on Mimi, lolI've rewatched it all now and I'm still unsatisfied by the lack of emotions when seeing their Digimon partners and Mimi again for the first time. And the only one Mimi hugs is Palmon and Jo later on… We need more group hugs. Also if my Digimon came back I would not let it go the way they did. I wouldn't fuckin care if Koushiro made some room on his server, my digimon would stay with me! v_v
I would have also loved to see more Digimon and their Humans interact in quiet at home. Like how they sleep together, eat together, do whatever. We got a lot of those scenes in the first and second season. Remember when the original ones got their digimon as a christmas present in season 2 and we got to see stills of everyone at home, like Mimi and her family with Palmon and the christmas tree? Those kind of scenes I want more of.
The next morning when we all got to see them watching the news for example, why not squeeze their digimon partners in there? Everytime those scenes came up, I was always like "where's Agumon, where's Gabumon, where's Biyomon..."I also agree with a lot of what Access said but I'm still looking forward to the next movies. Digimon always had flaws so for Nostalgia reasons I want to overlook those.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Best movie scene hands down was the one at sunset when Tai talks about his worries to Agumon. And they were constantly hugging and I was like YES YES GIVE ME MORE OF THAT. Beautiful animations and feelings right there.
Oh and one small thing I've noticed: Mimi is wearing her headband but it's missing that golden star we saw in one of the PVs :<

Nostalgic factor aside, really unsatisfacted by it. What's with Tai's trauma!? It's just like some bad actor playing wrong his role!! I didn't even get the point of his toughts!! You are scared by hurting people cause the first time you run away… and then your only solution is to run away!? What the hell, did they trojan-infected your mind too??
This could be shrunked to 3/4 of what it is if they just wanted to so bad handle their emotions: just cut'em out! The feeling would be the same.
-
What happened to the third Kuwagamon though ?
-
Asking for answers when we are just getting started is silly. You guys should have read that interview with the director. Digimon Adventure Tri isn't unlike any other previous season; it has been in development for long and it was meticulously planned to the last detail. Eventually, in the long run we will get all our answers and understand everything.
And don't lash out at me for saying this, but.. I don't understand this "emotion" thing. Back in 02 the kids and their digimon partners barely had any emotional reunion, if none at all, upon meeting back. Hell, the one that had the most emotional reunion was like it has happened in Tri, Mimi. To the others it should be already an habit to say goodbye and meet back with their digimon partners, there's no need for an exageratted teary reunion, and less when the kids are no longer kids, they are pretty much adults, for God's sake. Just my 2 cents.
What happened to the third Kuwagamon though ?
Alphamon crushed it.
Btw, I want that orchestra version of Brave Heart. I want it so bad!
-
Oh right, and adults don't have emotions, I forgot.
-
Oh right, and adults don't have emotions, I forgot.
Yes, they have. But honestly, I wouldn't spend too much time hugging each other while in front of an ax crazy giant beetle. The kids and their Digimon partners have met back many times already, you would think they are used to it. Like how I'm used to be reunited with a distant relative after a while. Whatever, think what you want.
And Jo is 18, my friend.
-
Adult age in Japan is 21.

Tai's trauma could have been believable. He's older now, and he's seeing the real-life consequences of adventures he had as a child in a digital world. Heck, when they mentioned that the fight was going on at Haneda Airport even I had a "holy crap!" moment, because I was just there two weeks ago. He could have had flashbacks of all the destruction he saw in the digital world and been traumatized to think of his family and loved ones being hurt in the real world.
Like "I didn't fight with my friends to save the digital world for the destruction and madness to be happening here!" I think that's what they were trying to accomplish but it wasn't done very well. Matt was attempting to shake him out of it but it translated into a fight between them, it was awkward.

I disagree. In real-life action movies when a comrade returns to rejoin the team, perhaps they aren't giggling and jumping and hugging each other, but a high five, pat on the back, smiles and little moment of celebration always happens, even if it's a fleeting moment in the middle of a war. Heck the girl flew all the way from the US straight into a battle, they could've at least shown a little more welcome than standing there with expressionless faces.
