Laura looks awesome!
-
-
^ Was it supposed to fit in anywhere besides the fan service niche?
-
^No. I suppose not…
-
So, she is a counter character ? Nice, I liked the mix between Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Capoeira, her special move reminds me of Blanka…And this is not a bad thing.
I don´t know if the brazilian stage will have stage hazards like we saw in the other stages.
-
The hast electricity AND rolls? Sure there will be a connection, probably his apprentice.
Not sure if I like the fighting style though :/
-
Well I really like her… But now 2 to go.
I still say Guile HAS TO return with Charlie in it.
But same could be said for Sakura and Karin... But I think the first meeting of Guile and Charlie is far more important and Sakura could be DLC.
The last new one most likely will be this Zen

Characters with a defensive oriented fighting style most of the times are on the top of tier lists.

Every SF must have Guile's theme.

True dat… Even if SF IV themes has been shit in my opinion.
But well.... Balrog isn't it and his theme is godlike as well

Ass-chaps AND nip slip top! What a great and sensible character design! She's straight out of Dead or Alive!
-
She seems kinda OP from the trailer.
ghetto Aegis Relfector-style fireballs?
hit confirms into command grabs?
command grabs that lunge forward and have super armor?
a command dash to apply even more pressure with normals?
oh, and her anti-air grab beat Ken's EX Divekick CLEAN.There's gotta be a hitch I'm not seeing. Hope to see an actual character demonstration soon.

Apparently, she's also related to Sean, as well. Her last name is also Matsuda.

To be fair R.Mika and Sakura predate the more fanservicey DOA games.

Sakura is underage, and at most she partially flashes her panties once in a random frame if you look reeeally closely. If you're getting fanservice out of her, I hope you were 14 at the time.
And R. Mika is also an awful, AWFUL character design. Not doing any favors comparing to that.
New girl at least if you took off the ass chaps and hiked up the shirt a little would be okay. You can show cleavage and still be sexy without being in something thats going to nip-slip every two seconds.
At least Mai in Fatal Fury was Mai, the entire gag was that her boobs bounced in unrealistic ways. WHich is fine on one character, in 1992, when they're being hand drawn towards that gag. Once its just jiggle physics on everyone, just… meh.
-
Well, hopefully her alternate costume isn't a bikini…
-
Oh, as a character she looks cool. It's just the fucking costume, as it is for so many female video game characters.
-

Could be worse the phenomena of female characters having their bras or bare breast be exposed when hit by an attack could've took off and become a regular thing in fighting games.
Well, hopefully her alternate costume isn't a bikini…
\
Even if isn't it'll be something skimpy if the Carnival dancers in the background are anything to go by.

AAAAAAAAAAH That's awesome!
They could be married.
…..Good point. They're probably related.
-
And yet no one is giving that scoundrel Necalli grief for wearing little more then a loincloth. :P Though I suppose there are few who would consider him sexy, I guess.

It's really freaking weird that the 2D fighting game franchise that has turned around and decided to be far more tame and considerate toward female costume design… is Mortal Kombat.
I still can't believe the fact that Mileena is wearing pants.
No. Actually its not awesome at all.

Persona 4 Arena would like to have a word with you.
Laura's playstyle looks fun and flashy which is what matters the most to me. There's still hope that her alternate outfits might look much better.
-
In the trailer, she says something in the start, first I thought she was singing, but now I think she is saying something.

Mortal Kombat's costumes did kind of push things a bit too far.
Though it's funny how the game tweaked 9's costumes particularly Mileena's which was made into a whole new costume whereas Sonya got a shirt underneath her vest, pants that didn't look like they were cutting off her circulation and boots that were more combat appropriate.

Hey, even Ivy in Soul Caliber has a "modest" outfit option. Which to me looks way cooler than her "barely-there" bikini.

Mortal Kombat's based in the West, so it's natural it'd have to face a lot more of the criticism that's mostly been happening in the west vs Japanese developers.
-
In the trailer, she says something in the start, first I thought she was singing, but now I think she is saying something.
"Boom! that's how you start the fight, and finish it quickly!"
it's a pretty awful piece of voice acting, enunciating the contrived sentence in a way that no English speaker ever would, and a voice that doesn't fit her character at all. It's basically a literal translation of her Japanese phrase.
A more competent localization would have gone with "Start with a boom, and go out with a bang!" or something similar.

:/ I thought she was saying something in portuguese, the "Boom" part.
Because I was hoping for a brazilian character that actually say something, not grunts.

I think it's more her odd hairstyle that bothers me more. How did she pull that one off?

This is a common hairstyle in Brazil, I think. :ninja:

His presence on the stage confirms and deconfirms nothing. Street Fighter 4 had something similar with the airplane stage, where we saw Vega (Claw) on the plane. Everyone assumed he was deconfirmed due to that. Yet that turned out to be false. He appears on the stage if he isn't played.

I like her hair. It's cool.
Sadly it does not distract from her boobs.

Not much that could in retrospect.

Today at the Brazil Game Show, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono "officially" announced the Laura Matsuda for SFV, showing off her official character artwork and some brand new HD screenshots as well! Capcom also confirmed that Laura is the older sister of Sean (SFIII).
Character Artwork
[hide][/hide]"Joining the series from her homeland in Brazil, Laura Matsuda is a Jiu-Jitsu specialist, a first for the Street Fighter series. Continuing the tradition of the famed Matsuda fighting style, Laura is constantly looking for strong opponents around the world to defeat, in an effort to spread the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu's name and prestige.
Laura's methodical grapple technique comes equipped with a stunning "Thunder Clap" projectile that zaps opponents and leaves them questioning if they should get in close, or keep their distance. By activating her "Spark Show" state, Laura's projectiles fly further and her attacks and grabs have increased stun damage".
V-Skill - Linear Movement - Allows her to quickly move into or out of attack range depending on which direction is held. Players can also make use of the skill's inherent overhead by staying at neutral.
V-Trigger - Spark Show - Improves her already impressive set of techniques. Upon activation, she gains a ton of advantages, including increased travel with Linear Movement, additional stun on attacks and grabs, and more distance for her fireball, Thunder Clap.

Very true.
However, Alex isn't gonna be in the initial 16 roster anyway. There's one veteran character left, and it's a "classic character you expect to see in a street fighter game". Which, given that the rest in that bloc were SF2 characters, makes me expect another SF2 character.
I"m sure Alex will appear as DLC eventually, though. But people expecting him in the initial roster have been deluding themselves since Matt Dahlgren explained what the color blocks meant.

I was speed-reading this and initially misread "character" as "cleavage" lol

It was your mind self-correcting. This is a common thing.
-
Katarina–> Laura.
-
Capcom says the last returning character won't (necessarily) be from Street Fighter 2 My first thought is to snort derisively and ask if they went with Balrog or Dhalsim but then I realized Sagat and Sakura (and other characters, I'm sure) fit the "characters you'd expect in a Street Fighter game" requirements of the remaining returning character spot.
-
Personally, I expect it to be Sodom.
-
It's gonna be Sakura.
-
Yeah, probably Sakura….
Here's to Poison as DLC then!
-
Its Juri. Just wait and see.

Who's enjoying the beta? They're even adding the beta1 characters, which is neat. My thoughts so far:
Ken: he's Ken. v-skill is nearly useless, though.
Mika: so much fun, love using the irish whip for corner combos. mk and f.mk are great buttons. nadeshiko is really only useful as a combo extender
Rashid: great mobility. being able to use specials out of his run is weird, but will appeal to people who can't even do hadoukens I guess. v-trigger is great for setting up pressure, or swoosing across the screen for surprise attack.
Vega: surprisingly fun combos, being motions means I can actually play him for once! I think he's probably really strong, but hard to use. claw on for range, claw off for damage.
Karin: I think her mixups will stop being so effective when people learn the game. everybody's just inexperienced is all. Honestly didn't care for her that much.
Necalli: boring. normals feel weak. having a single charge move is strange.
Nash: can't tell if he was nerfed from last time, but he certainly wasn't buffed. I love his style, but his buttons are so unsafe.
