! It was really nice seeing Feeny's garden again.
Girl Meets World ( Boy Meets World sequel)
-
-
! I can't wait to see Mr. Feeny and Eric again.
-
Good season premiere.
! I didn't expect Maya's narration throughout the episode was actually at a funeral. I like the character development for Topanga and Riley's mom got through the episode. The ending of the episode was nice with Cory calling Mr. Feeny.
-
I had issues with the premiere, even with the ending shot. But I was really onboard this episode. Probably my favorite of the show. Great use of Topanga. Auggie's new friend was fun. Maya excelled in her joke plot, and Riley/Lucas finally have one moment here of genuine chemistry (or maybe I just liked Riley's speech, upon repeats Lucas is pretty straight faced both when listening to Riley and during his next line read), though I've heard that scene was apparently improvised. Luckily, the awkwardness in their relationship is supposed to be there this episode too so it works even better.
-
Pretty good episode. We finally get some character development on Lucas and why he moved from Texas. I'm interested to see how this storyline will go with Lucas and Riley. Frackle was funny tonight during the opening part of the episode with them finally going to learn about the lesson from the season premiere.
-
Belgium 1831 and the class not actually covering it was actually a reoccurring joke from season one.
I dunno. As far as acting goes, Lucas getting "mad" at Riley didn't really sell, but him threatening the 20 year old was pretty well done. And it puts season one and his niceness into a new perspective, though I feel like this really kinda contradicts the election episode they did last year. And the show is letting Lucas be actually one year older than everyone else so at least the age difference has a slight explanation.
I did dig Cory trying to justify letting the kids talk in class though, even if it's still convoluted. Letting that one side character though interrupt definitely helped, both as a gag and to help sell Cory's teaching methods. Also liked the end lesson that there are many secrets to life.
And hey, just like the premiere, this was a Rider Strong directed episode! Still liked the previous episode more though.
Next episode though has Rider Strong returning to the screen as Shawn, a trip to Philadelphia (with a Feeny cameo that's hopefully more than just a quick cameo even though it will come with a scene I'm dreading…), and a time capsule. It's gonna be a very BMW-centric one.
-
Great episode tonight.
! Really like the entire Cory wanting to get the time capsule stuff. Especially when Shawn entering and wondering what's wrong with Cory. The foreshadowing for the Angela episode was interesting. Maya putting the picture of her, Katy, and Shawn was a nice moment in the episode as well the scene between Feeny, Riley, and Maya.
-
Probably the weakest of the five. It's great to have Eric, but it felt like they tried to overcompensate and tried too hard. But given Will Friedle's apparent anxiety about coming back in front of the camera I hope his return is met with a lot of love.
-
I like the newest episode, and Eric's stuff made me laugh very hard.
-
Yeah, it was overdone, but all of Eric's bits had me laughing.
I marathoned the handful of reunion episodes the other day with the returning cast members. They were nice. Shawn's character arc is kinda neat, mostly given that well, its been so many years in actual real time. And holy crap was that time capsule a callback machine, yeesh. Good to see Feeny again, though jumping straight to the BMW series finale Feeny call was a bit much, even if they're not sure they'll ever have him again. Shame the rest of the show is bleh.
Its not the younger actors fault… everyone else has decades of experience and actual bonding and chemistry to go off of, while thye're... kids. Is what it is.
I'll probably keep trying to catch it whenever they announce another reunion episode, (I can give it an hour once every six months) but otherwise show isn't for me.
-
Jack is going to reappear on the show. The description gives me hope that maybe Eric's reappearance won't all be just him being silly.
http://www.ibtimes.com/girl-meets-world-season-2-spoilers-creator-michael-jacobs-discusses-return-matthew-1954683And speaking of other episodes that will have BMW characters in them, Angela and Chet reappear on the 06/19 episode Girl Meets Hurricane (and it's been hinted Shawn/Angela will not end well, though given the direction the show's been going with Shawn's love life I'm not surprised, I'm just hoping Shawn/Angela has good closure).
The Mr. Turner episode was supposed to be on 06/19, but it was switched with Girl Meets Hurricane and will probably appear in July.
I'm putting the stills here because I recognized the teacher mentioned in the episode description from Even Stevens.
http://rileyandauggie.tumblr.com/post/119981331244/girl-meets-world-girl-meets-the-new-teacherHarley appears in the episode next week.
And Josh appeared in the episode tonight. Didn't like it for a bunch of reasons, but I can also pick out a bunch of moments in the episode I enjoyed or was okay with (though there's an equal or larger amount of scenes I was apathetic towards/hated).
-
Great episode tonight.
! I really like the development of the Shawn and Maya storyline. Angela's return was really interesting and Cory's freaking out about her was funny. Riley trying to confront Angela was funny as well. The last moments with Shawn's dad was great.
-
This Friday's episode has Eric Matthews reappearing and running for Senate! It's gonna be a doozy for BMW fans for sure.
-
Great episode tonight.
! I really like the continuation of the previous Eric episode. A lot of great moments in the episode, especially when Eric's reaction of seeing Harley. The reveal of T.J. being Tommy from the original series really surprise me.
-
Yeah. Spoiled so the emotional beat didn't hit very hard personally, but solid episode.
Any episode that tries to increase children's interest about politics is always appreciated.
! Lot of nice character interactions. The scene between Harley and Eric was probably my favorite interaction. It felt really genuine/not overly goofy.
! That said, it's been apparently for awhile now, but this episode really solidifies that all the Matthews intentionally exaggerate their lives for comedic effect. Riley joining Eric in putting her face in the cereal bowl and Cory/Topanga's end scene really solidified that for me.
! Speaking of which, very glad this got a callback.
!
! Going back to character interactions, I'm glad Eric bonded with Farkle right away and they meshed/joked around. I wonder if I would've thought Farkle was going to be the one to step up saying Eric's good with kids if I didn't know beforehand about the surprise. They definitely bonded. Wonder if that's partly due to their actors bonding off screen. It was sweet.
! And last bit. They gotta be setting up Maya/Lucas in the long run. Yes, the end copped out by having Maya look at Riley when saying the words "I like you" and she added "all" to her sentence, but still. The writers are probably not Avatar level ship teasy (though I'm aware they are aware of the fan pairing Maya/Lucas), but even a small scene like that definitely feels more comfortable than Riley/Lucas -
Great episode.
! I really like the story line of the episode. With the kids reading the Dark Knight Return to understand the meaning of hero and villains. The return of Mr. Turner was great and it was great they reference Mr. Turner's teaching style is similar to the new teacher. The Matthews dinner scenes was also some the highlights of the episode.
-
I didn't see the Fish episode, but I did catch the Yearbook episode. It was really great.
! I feel like Farkle's metamorphosis is what happened to Topanga between seasons 1 and 2, we just never saw it onscreen. And I'm glad because this obviously means that they will tone down the zaniness, but even the Donnie Barnes catchphrase got really tiring really quickly. He's probably still going to have a bunch of the same mannerisms for a little bit, but it's a cool way to have him evolve, especially since the voice change is very apparent.
! Also thought this was a nice episode for Lucas, and him playing the straight man was actually funny. I'm glad they're allowing him to be more than just a pretty face since it's allowing his actor to get more comfortable in the role which is good. Plus, I like the scene between Farkle and Lucas at the end. Actually, it's the moment before where Farkle points out to Lucas that he should know change isn't always bad given what we learned about him earlier. It's good to see the show let the two have the rapport.
! I also don't care that Riley's the biggest cartoon character out of the bunch. She's having a blast when she gets to chew the scenery up, and it's rather fun to watch.
! And of course the big revelation is the one they've been setting up this season about the relationships the show's probably planning for long term. Personally I never was a fan of the couples whose relationship is based off bantering and having romantic sexual tension. But that's a personal preference obviously. Luckily it also helps I don't think Riley/Lucas have any actual chemistry and Maya/Lucas does.
! The revelation though that Maya has is weird since just because you're alike that doesn't necessarily make it a sibling like relationship. Not to mention I feel like what Maya's mom said about not being able to see straight if you're too close should also apply to Maya via Riley, but I don't like that bit of info anyways since it was only done to imply Katie/Shawn. It's weird since you could also be unable to make a good impression if you don't know the person at all.
! And that's what I thought could've been a cooler message, and something I think they might have tried to do if it wasn't on the Disney Channel, have Maya's mom not be able to do a Maya impression because she doesn't know her daughter that well. Obviously on some level Maya and her mom's relationship was strained given she works all the time and Maya thought her mom drove her father away.Next episode is Girl Meets Semiformal, and I think both Jack Hunter and Eric Matthews are set to reappear in the episode.
-
Finally sat down and marathoned the most recent couple episodes. The show is definitely at its stronger (or most nostalgic?) when it features the cast from the old show, but that's to be expected, especially after their decades of chemistry. But its also a little weird after a point just how many cameos they're fitting in now. Return of Mr. Turner was consistent comedy gold. Eric is a bit weird, even for him, but I guess I'd sort of forgotten just how strange he got by the end of the series. In general loved all the stuff with Shawn so far.
Biigest surprise was definitely the TJ reveal.
And oh yeah. The kids the show is supposed to be about. They're growing on me But I never woulda kept watching if not for the BMW nostalgia flowing strong through me.
-
Tonight's episode was great.
! Riley's moments in the school board were some of the funniest moments in the series. Mr. Turner's reaction during the meeting were funny as well. I did like all the character development in the episode.
-
! At this point I'm convinced it's this show's goal to bring back everyone who ever appeared ever on the old show, no matter in how minor a role. The throw away cameos are getting ridiculous. I'd say "I'd never have guessed THAT girl would be Minkus' wife." but that would imply I remembered she existed at all before checking the wiki. This and the return of the kid Eric almost adopted are about the craziest come backs so far.
! That aside, it was almost really strong episode. But them backing off of the diagnosis at the end I think was the weaker route to go. Would have been neat character development if the aspergers diagnosis had stuck, and be a decent ongoing thing for Farkle. Turning it around and making it about the other girl instead, which was a nice touch, though weird that she's gone from an obvious one off to a potetially recurring character. Overall ended up being really sweet, particularly if she sticks around. Also, I'm bothered that I've learned the name of one of the extras in the classroom/ The wide eyed blonde I made "Derpy" jokes about, because her expressions amused me and her placement in the seating means she gets into a lot of shots. Turns out the name of the actress and character? Darby. What the hell.
-
Last two episodes felt like they were inspired by criticisms they received from the show.
! Girl Meets Cory and Topanga definitely felt like it was a commentary on how GMW will never live up to the standards of BMW. And personally it was the weaker of the two episodes given (A), the message at the end was confusing. She's unique yet shares the same traits as Cory/Topanga during their goofy years. (B) The comparison's off. They were in 6th grade during those flashbacks. I mean, I guess in 7th grades Cory and co. were in high school so that's why the transitions different, but it's still odd. I mean, it's Disney instead of ABC Family so there will be a gap in maturity if they did show 8th or even 7th grade Cory (not to mention Topanga stopped acting weird after 6th grade).
! Then there's Girl Meets Rileytown. They did a bully episode with Farkle already, but other than the heavy handedness of the tone this episode, Rileytown feels better overall, in large part due to Riley's breakdown performance. But at the end, when she addresses the audience about being silly, I can't help but think that was meant to be Riley addressing the audience for all the critiques of her being a goofball.
! That all said, I do think Farkle, Lucas, and Riley are being treated better by the show, and the actors are improving. These episodes are fair examples of that. The one scene Farkle/Lucas had in Girl Meets Cory and Topanga was good despite the goofy robot analysis scene. Same with how they acted in Rileytown, along with Zay.
! It was also very meta how Cory openly admitted in Rileytown to use his class to teach Riley and her friends lessons in life. It was a nice moment though that he addressed the rest of the class by name and told them that they could come to him if they ever have any issues of their own. -
Girl Meets Texas three parter this weekend. It's about a love triangle storyline, so that's pretty self-explanatory how that's going to turn out. And while there's still stilted dialogue and plot choices everywhere, I think it captures the spirit of having confusing feelings while in middle school very well.
The bright side, especially since the final episode had montages of GMW flashbacks, is that this three parter really highlights the fact that all the child actors/actresses are improving a lot and are getting pretty good.
-
The first two parts of this Texas 3 parter have been great. I can't wait for part 3 tomorrow. I agreed the kids have improved a lot since the beginning. I'm curious what the conclusion of the story will give us and set up for upcoming episodes.
-
Part 3 is online if you search for it FYI. If you want a youtube link I could PM it to you.
-
Well. That was…
a three parter.
-
It's okay, Robby, you can admit that it was shit. Because it was shit.
That said, the actors are definitely better at their craft than when the show first started… it's just that the material they're being given is still shit.
-
ALL the actual chemistry is between Maya and Lucas. If thats because of the actors, or how they were originally written growing organically, I dunno. But those two have all the legitimate chemistry, and everything else is just excessive love triangle melodrama… which they apparently have no real intention of settling any time soon.
So if they ultimately hook those two up, that's fine. But going on endlessly about him and Riley maybe needing to be a couple, sheerly because they were intended to have chemistry in the pilot episode is really iffy.
Similarly, harping on the "he's like a brother" thing at length was also iffy. Because it takes away the power of Riley declaring Maya is her sister... and also the power of Maya having that as a quiet, subtle realization several episodes back. Turning it into a bold faced plot point line repeated constantly is just... painful. But hey, target audience is young, I guess.
If they do go down that path of throwing Riley together with Lucas anyway, thats icky. And if they pair her up with Farkle, sheerly to pair the spares, that's icky too. Love triangles always suck.
Points for getting some legit emotional moments going, and a few scenes were pretty good. But the overall mess its left everything in, I hope is settled by end of the season one way or another.
You can play the "I dont know if we should do this" card for new, young relationships, that's fine. And for there to be bumps and breakups along the way That's fine too. (The original show, no matter what it did for a stint of a few episodes at a time, was always pretty clearly Cory/Tapanga... and they got most of their relationship angst mileage out of the other members of the cast.) But love triangles always suck. It wasn't fun when it was Eric/Rachel/Jack either.

Girl Meets World is getting a third season.
https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/disney-channel-renews-girls-meets-201100321.html
-
A third season of mediocrity! Hooray!
I should probably stop watching this show, at least when it isn't bringing back a Boy Meets World cast member (and even those episodes aren't spectacular)…
-
I've been meaning to try and catch this as much as possible. Boy Meets World was a big part of my Friday nights as a kid.
Hey I remember watching one episode and an actor appeared as the cousin or something. I think the best friend of the main character was in love with him or something. Uriah Shelton is the actual actors name, has he made a lot of appearances?
-
That would be Josh, Cory's younger brother from Boy Meets World. He's had a handful of appearances, but nothing substantial. He's mostly been used as shipper bait (though, "shipper bait" pretty much describes the whole show).
-
Hey I remember watching one episode and an actor appeared as the cousin or something. I think the best friend of the main character was in love with him or something. Uriah Shelton is the actual actors name, has he made a lot of appearances?
Uriah Shelton is playing Cory's baby brother Josh (now 17 in the show). He's made 4 appearances, 3 in season 1. He was supposed to actually appear in a few more episodes in season 2, but he also got injured in a motorcycle accident so he wasn't able to make the filming.
In a more general sense, the episode he was supposed to show up in was Girl Meets the New Year which just aired, and you can feel his absence in the plot. They stretched out a lot of scenes, but on the plus side, they brought back the "cool teacher" Harper in the episode, so it has that going for it. (It's also a love triangle episode so ugh).
As far as this season's concerned, there's 5 more episodes, including what I think is a 2 parter season finale. The other 3, along with the two that aired before Girl Meets the New Year, were aired out of production order, so they won't deal exclusively on the love triangle stuff. And I hate that I can split up the show into pre and post love triangle episodes.
-
Love triangles suck in general.
Especially in a case like this one where two of the actors have actual legitimate chemistry, so any actual love triangling is purely on the writer's part trying to fit the mold they started with.
At least they're keeping Farkle out of it. (Aside from his bystander status)
-
Holy smokes a motor cycle accident?! Jesus Christ! How long ago?
I taught him martial arts for years, such a good kid with a great attitude. He started booking bigger things about 5 years ago and haven't seen him since. That is until I happen to turn on Girl Meets World. I guess I'll send a message and see how he's doing.
-
It happened early September. Here's some info found via google. Think he's recovering well though.
http://bmwsequel.com/2015/10/02/uriah-shelton-joshua-matthews-was-in-a-horrible-motorcycle-accident/ @Robby you make good points
-
It's just, well, Maya has all the chemistry with Lucas… Riley was just written to end up with him from the first episode. Its not just me thinking that, right?
-
I doubt the whole triangle is going to last all too long. I'm guessing end of this season they'll drop it and go with Maya and Lucas since that seems to be what fans want.
-
The problem is I'm still not certain how much of the Riley/Lucas chemistry or lack thereof is due to (a) how the characters were written early on and (b) the lack of experience between the actors. Right off the gate it's clear Maya was the best of the child actors. Riley was good in certain niches and nailing certain mannerisms from Cory, but she was still growing as an actress. Lucas had the double whammy of needing to grow as an actor and being given straight up nothing to work off in season 1.
Personally, I do think some scenes between the two had some chemistry in season 2, even the pre-love triangle episodes. There's a small spark that could grow. So I can't tell if those season 1 moments, or even those season 2 moments, are meant to be adorable but just aren't delivering on that aspect or if it's intentional writing to show the two aren't really compatible.
That all said, I do agree Maya/Lucas have way more chemistry even taking all the above into account.
Plus, there's also the age difference to consider, but if the actors aren't clicking romantically due to the age difference than the show should adjust the material accordingly.
I'm just hoping it's meant to lead somewhere. If the show decides that Maya's feelings are actually not meant to be "love" feelings but something else and they do go the Lucas/Riley route, which I am afraid they're going, then this whole love triangle shenanigans was just pandering to those that need relationship drama. If/when Maya/Lucas get together, then the drama meant something because the show is taking the characters in a new direction. Going back to Riley/Lucas makes everything moot.
-
The season premiere of Girl Meets World was pretty good and that I like that they update the opening similar to the high school years of Boy meets World. I admit that I tear up a bit about what happened to both Riley and Maya at the end of tonight's episode with everyone pretty much ditching them. The Eva storyline hit me hard since I went through a similar situation like that with my parents getting an divorce.
-
….That's one way to end the obnoxious love triangle they cornered themselves with.
! By first blatantly repeating, and pointing out they were repeating, an old BMW plot.
! Followed by "Well, there some nuance to be made in this choice, and two of the actors actually have much better chemistry together… but we reeeeally want to stick with the original premise of the show so we'll just say one of them hasn't been herself for the last 14 or so episodes and literally nothing she felt was real for... like a year."I hated the love triangle plot, and wish they'd never started it…. since they always end badly if you're supposed to like all three characters, but that was a really terrible way to get out of the corner they'd written themselves into.
-
I've been meaning to watch season 3, but I've spoiled myself on the overall direction of the triangle early on, and just…haven't willed myself to watch the episodes yet. Even the overall direction of Maya and Riley in season 3 seems bleh from what I've read.
I honestly wonder if season 3 was written during/after Josh's actor was injured, and if the overall direction of the triangle would have changed if he didn't get into that accident. He was supposed to be a part of the story as early as New Years.
That said, I heard the season finale episode is called Girl Meets Goodbye and brought back a lot of the old BMW cast, including both actresses who played Morgan. Rumor has it that it could be the series finale of season 4 isn't picked up.
-
You know, while in an ideal scenario the show would run 7 years like its predecessor and give the cast time to really grow up and be its own thing as they become actual actors and move away from the "covered in goop" comedy… I'd be kind of okay with this season being it. We got to catch up on all the old cast and get some resolution for their stuff, its a nice nostalgia trip/follow up in general, and enough episodes of this it doesn't feel like it was completely cut short prematurely.
Considering all the fun and actual writing has been going into the original cast for their episodes that have little to do with the kids... (And Topanga has had nothing to do... even making her resteraunt owner didn't really expand her role... she mostly just interacts with the eight year olds.)
-
Great episode tonight.
! Feeny's cameo was great. And when Auggie calls Feeny, grandpa. And Feeny saying No was funny. The Wedding itself made me smile a lot
-
It's official.
-
Well, not like it hasn't been mostly official for months now.
Not sure quite why they're cancelling it when it gets decent ratings as far as I know.
They got enough episodes for syndication I guess and that's enough?
So… they went through allll that love triangle nonsense, ended it the wrong way so they could stick to the episode 1 premise rather than where the actual chemistry was... and then proceeded to not have a single follow up episode where anything was different at all? What was the point?
-
Been thinking about it and more and more the show would've been better suited if we just followed Cory and Topanga going through life as parents.
Instead we got their child living in the shadow of their world, having to find the best friend since birth, the "perfect" love story. And then the creators go LoK where shipping has to be a thing because that's what people want apparently, except they don't know how to do it.
I can't even blame it being on Disney. The show didn't have to be so inherently silly or melodramatic just because it was on Disney Channel. This goes back to what I said before, the show never felt grounded in reality, and the show needed that more than anything given it's the predecessor to BMW. But maybe that's just how live action Disney is nowadays.
But yeah, 3 seasons. That's on par with Disney's old 65 episode rule. It had a solid run. Just hope the kids turn out okay in the future. From what I gathered, Riley's actress is already kinda "preachy" in a similar way her character is, making certain statements about issues hat she might still not really understand yet.
-
Saw that earlier today. I enjoy the series while it lasted.
-
The problem with the show was, Riley herself wasn't a very good character, and certainly shouldn't have been the one to hold the show down. If thats down to the writing or the actress or a combination thereof, I don't know… but she was not a strong lead. Maya was the better actress with more charisma, with the more interesting story, and yes, she had much better chemistry with the boy. Secondaries were fine but they were always secondaries.
And most of the fun of the show did come purely from seeing the BMW cast again, the Shawn and Eric episodes especially Were it not for that I have no question at all that I never would have watched the show at all.
I have no idea how that would be for any brand new audience where this was their first show and they didn't know the old characters and they were just the parents (and all the Feeny jokes must have been extra weird)... but the show was entirely in its shadow and could never escape it. They especially never figured out what to do with Topanga, mostly leaving her with the six year olds as a subplot. (And I understand, target audience. But sorry, they were six year olds and they were annoying, especially Eva who was supposed to be annoying.)
They gave Topanga a restaurant in season 2 and that was clearly intended to give her more screen time, but that didn't get used much either.
I dunno. The show just never really figured out what it wanted to be... and it reeeally lost its way with the love triangle plot where they clearly wrote themselves into a corner and then had to pretend Maya was all screwed up just so they could stick with Riley and Lucas... but even after deciding on that and having wasted like 20 episodes getting there, then did nothing with it. Similarly, and this is probably down to Rider Strong's schedule, but after Shawn married into the family, they did nothing with it. Like, why do these character growth setups if you just throw them back into the background and don't do anything with it afterwards?
-
Or maybe this isn't the end after all…
http://tvline.com/2017/01/12/girl-meets-world-season-4-revival-chances-michael-jacobs-interview/I honestly don't buy into the whole "limited by Disney" excuse, so if nothing else it'd be interesting to see if the show improves or stays the same if they don't feel like they're being "constricted".
-
Pretty good finale, no complaints.
! The bit with the two Morgans was amusing though fourth wall breaking. That's suuuch a weird joke that no one in the young audience is going to understand.
! Eric and Feeny was good.
! Though they went through the trouble of assembling the entire old cast, do wish they'd all had a little more to do. Some of them didn't even have a line, they were just there. But nice that they were there at all.
! The ending wasn't surprising at all though… there was never going to be any other outcome so it was kind of weird to have all the drama to it.I'm pretty okay with the show ending there. Sure it'd be nice if it ran a few more years like its predecessor and they had a chance to grow up but… is what it is.
