I worked on a couple of shinies, like shiny Ampharos and Mawile, but other pokes I use I just prefer in their non-shiny version.
I often breed shinies while watching YT or Anime because i don't really need to concentrate on it. It's just "get the eggs, ride around, release".
I think i got …10 shinies or so in the last 3 weeks including a perfect Gengar and Serperior with HA.
Am I the only one who doesn't really care about Shinies?
Not at all, I never understood what the hype was about. I mean, at first I thought they had better stats, when I found out that they were just rare (and ugly in the vast majority) palette swaps I was really amazed by how much time people invested on it.
But I am not a completionist, so I am probably not qualified to understand their appeal anyway.

When they first appeared, they DID have better stats, because shininess was tied to IVs and it basically called for a perfect one.
Some shinies are cool, but the actual shiny animation is REALLY annoying every time you enter a battle… it'd be better if wild critters just had a little more variety to them naturally. Like, if their colors had a natural variance of 5 or 6 similar colors. Might be all shades of brown, but getting something more red might be better than something light tan, depending on preference. They already do it with some butterflies and those flower monsters, and spindas, and male/females, and they're cg models now, so it'd be super easy to do. Make everyone's mons just a liiitle more unique.
(Monster Racers let you customize colors like crazy... but also had unique shinies... but they came up pretty dang often. Maybe 1 in 40? Common enough they were obtainable... but they DID have superior stats.)
The game does let you customize your favorite pokemon. Assuming that pokemon is Pikachu.
As to the appeal of shinies, for me it's simply that some colors just look nicer on certain pokemon. Like, yellow Ampharos is awesome and all, but a lilac/pink one with blue orbs looks super classy, and as Mega Ampharos it's beautiful. I'm sure that other people feel the same way towards certain shinies they look for and it also dictates which are the most popular, like Greninja and Charizard.
When they first appeared, they DID have better stats, because shininess was tied to IVs and it basically called for a perfect one.
Actually it called for one with a very specific set of IVs that were generally above average but hardly perfect. Specifically it needed 10 in Speed, Defense and both its Special stats, and an Attack of either 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15.
Anyway, personally I like shinies generally… But I do not like it when Nintendo goes and holds distribution events for them. Where's the bragging rights in "I got this thing off the internet because Nintendo was distributing it!"? For me, the main reason why I'm so attached to my shiny Greninja and Aegislash is because I went through so many eggs to obtain them. I actually had to work for those things. That, combined with the fact that their IVs are also competively viable (Well, Ragnarok the Aegislash is a bit on the fast side for a 'mon whose entire strategy revolves around hitting last… Oh well, Aegislash isn't gonna outspeed much anyway with its low base speed.)
Anyone here got a Hoopa code to spare or can clone me one?
Hello guys I'm sorry to intrude this thread with my uber-noobiness.
But as ArlongPark is probably the closest thing to an active forum in which I can ask stupid questions, I'll just ask away here.
I'm trying to get back into Pokemon with (not really) latest stuff and also want to catch up with older versions as I do so.
At the moment I'm trying to purchase Nintendo 3DS XL with Pokemon X and Pokemon Black (v2).
I played Pokemon games up to the Emerald version on my Gameboy Advance.
I also own LeafGreen and two Ruby versions.
My questions are:
1. Can you transfer Pokemon from Emerald/Leafgreen/Ruby to newer games?
2. How many consoles do I need to do that?
3. Do I need to buy Nintendo DS to play Soul Silver? And is Soul Silver good?
4. What's a DSi, DS Lite, and do all the Nintendo consoles use same charging cable?
5. Any recommendation for Pokemon games? On top of Black2 and X, I'm wanting to play Soul Silver and OR/AS.

Thanks in advance!

Don't just skip straight to black 2. Black (and White) 1 were balanced to showcase that new gen entirely, and it makes an experience of it. While the 2 is a better game overall, it also shuffles back in everything and changes the experience a lot as the new things are no longer an event.
Or, just skip the newest and just play X, it has the updated graphics and all the monsters and be overwhelmed by like 400 things you don't recognize.
My questions are:
1. Can you transfer Pokemon from Emerald/Leafgreen/Ruby to newer games?
2. How many consoles do I need to do that?
You can push everything forward bit by bit. But you'll need a DS that still has an Advance slot in it… I THINK.
You'll also need to use the online poke-bank to get things from gen 5 to gen 6.
3. Do I need to buy Nintendo DS to play Soul Silver? And is Soul Silver good?
3DS can play all DS games. ANd Soul Silver is probably the best game in the franchise overall with its scope, story, and mons following you on the map… its mostly just become outdated at this point by a couple gen shifts since then... but if you play it before the new stuff it should be great.
[quote[4. What's a DSi, DS Lite, and do all the Nintendo consoles use same charging cable?[/quote]
All different versions of the DS. DSxl is also a variant. They use different charging cables, as the later units used better tech.
5. Any recommendation for Pokemon games? On top of Black2 and X, I'm wanting to play Soul Silver and OR/AS.
Soui Silver is great. Play Black or White 1 first before 2. X/Y is pretty solid.
Skip OR/AS. As a placeholder its okay, but its pretty dull, the only game where I've gotten to victory road and said "eh, good enough." The story and monster selection is just bleh, and XY (which came before it) introduced all the upgrades it had, plus stuff it ommited. They're due to do a new game sometime next year, be it next gen or Z, so probably just wait for that.
^You are awesome. Thanks so much!

So to trade my Emerald pokemon, I need to purchase a DS with Advance Slot. (I find that 3DS don't have that slot)
And to transfer from DS to 3DS generation, is there some kind of cable I need to use?

Yes, a DS or a DSlite.

No, you only need a single 3DS and the PokéBank app which you can download from the Nintendo eShop. The download itself is free but you have to pay 5$ to be able to use it for one year. You insert Black/White/Black2/White2 into the 3DS and open the PokéTransporter app (which comes with the PokéBank, you can't find it in the eShop by itself) and it imports the first box on your PC into the PokéBank. Then you insert X/Y/OR/AS and use the PokéBank to download your Pokémon from the bank to the cartridge.

Ahh, thanks for the tip! I guess PokeBank is a must-have.
Just got my Nintendo 3DS XL and 4 games (only one 3DS game which is Pokemon X; Mario Party, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, and Pokemon Black 2).
They're second hand so I'll have to reset the games to play from the beginning.
Man the world of Pokemon has evolved cough so quickly…
I don't recognize any of the Pokemons. Only this Blastoise in X.
How do you see Friendcode? I want to add you guys :)
It's easy with the 3ds, the friend button is atop the touch screen menu, the orange people one. There you can see your friend code, and introduce others. I'm not currently using my 3ds, but most active players keep their fc in their signatures, and there's a google doc around with a lot of them, but you have to introduce someone's and that person has to imput yours, so if you add someone, you tell them for them to add you back.
^Okay thanks!
I'll post my friend code when I get home but right now I'm a week into playing Pokemon X on 3DSXL.
Wow. It is amazing. Difficulty isn't too high but that's actually perfect for me as I'm like a total beginner.
Ended up spending a bit. Bought 3DSXL, Pokemon X, Pokemon Black 2, Pokemon Soul Silver and Pokemon Platinum.
Also bought 2DS Lite.
Was very surprised at the price of Soul Silver and Platinum.
Especially Soul Silver. I got the case, Pokewalker, the manuals and everything and it costed $120 while 2DS Lite was just $30.
And online I see that I can probably buy one of ORAS for $40-ish. And that's brand new!
I heard Platinum was the best out of Diamon, Pearl series so I had to get that. Was around $80. Auction bids were quite fun with this one.
Reaaaaally tempted to buy ORAS despite Robby's suggestion…
Pokemon X is simply amazing. Feeling like a kid again lol love it to bits.
If ORAS is anything like this... It would be worth it!

Added you. Mine is in my signature ;)
Thanks guys :)
Guess I am getting AS after all.
Read somewhere that there's a LOT of legendaries to catch xD
So this guy is Pokken final boss.
Could be pokken exclusive like shadow lugia was for Colosseum or a new form.

It's not. The story is lesser, the world design is awful, they cut a lot features XY had and features Emerald had 10 years ago, you're on water for half the game, and most importantly… the selection of monsters is pretty dismal unless you happen to love Lotad and Mightyena and Skitty.
It's the reason I liked Ruby/Sapphire the least out of the Pokemon games in the first place. It's the reason I didn't buy ORAS later (also I was saving money at the time).

It also my least liked pokemon but I think they did a good job witrh ORAS, added a lot of new content, its less annoying to go through all the water, etc its a lot better than RS.
He looks exactly like Mega Mewtwo X beside the colors and shoulders spikes so I guess it's like shadow Lugia.
Correct. It's a weird black Mewtwo with some weird gold spike thingy and tail, and the boss fight is his X Mega:
Is this another Devil Gene bullshit?
I dunno, but it looks incredible.
Its better than a Dark Pikachu but yeah looks cool but most likely staying in Pokken(as it should).
I swear to god if this means a new charizard…
Well sure. We don't have Charizard Z or Primal Charizard yet.
I'm more dissapointed the XY split didn't give options to more mons. While it' be annoying to have some thigns have two megas while other things still have none, it'd be nice to see the versatility and options that provides.
Remains to be seen just how megas will be treated next game, since Greeninja is getting some weird trainer evolution in the anime.
And they say the "weird" trainer evolution will make Greninja be able to fight with Mega pokemon(as in anime talk, even though Pikachu already beat a Mega Lucario this region).
ShadowDark Mewtwo looks cool kinda want it to stay in Pokken tho

How??? Pikachu has a type advantage over the latter!
How??? Pikachu has a type advantage over the latter!
Ash ignores typing all the time. For good and bad. The anime will usually get "grass is weak to fire" right, but any of the other element matchups can go any which way.
Heck, he'll often send out something completely weak to his opponent. Not as a last resort or because its the only thing he has left but… just because he feels like using it second.
How??? Pikachu has a type advantage over the latter!
Isn't Surskit also part ground? That would negate an electric type.

Surskit is Water/Bug.
Best video I could find:
It's some remix with terrible music and spanish subtitles.
An even though water/bug is an amazing unique typing, it then loses it when it evolves to become water/flying, which is absolutely terrible.

My bad, I was thinking of Stunfisk.

Bug/Flying (which is still lame).
Damn, I guess Surskit and Masquerain really are forgettable.

Riiight.
Regardless, it gains extra weaknesses, and loses the unique attacking stabs.
Water/fighting is another good combo that's criminally underused… its gone to Polywrath and... Keldeo.
Poliwrath is awesome though.
It is kind of surprising that with all the water pokemon out there they haven't really explored certain combinations more. Meanwhile, every gen we get a bunch of useless fish.

Well he lost to the Surskit before beating the Lucario, a bunch of episodes before, Pikachu gets kinda reseted every region(even though it didn't seem to happen this region), Pikachu went on to be the star of most gym after that.

That's because Ash's journey is actually a long running cloning test for Team Rocket. Jessie, James and Meowth are dying constantly, and then being released as a new batch. Ash (who is secretly Giovanni's son) gets killed during the Legendary outings saving the world, along with Pikachu. Giovanni not wanting to lose his son, clones him again with the most recent batch of memories he had available, and then sends Jessie,James and Meowth to help train him once again. Thus Ash resets in competence and Pikachu level about once a year, and in the process forgets his old companions and all that he has learned.
This is why he never ages or mentions his old girlfriends.
Gary Oak on the other hand is still the original which is why he's managed to grow and mature.

Lol I dont even carea bout the anime anymore, I'm so tired of TR, I basicly watch episodes where one of his pokemon is caught/evolves/develops a new move or a gym/rival/league battle, with that said he seems to have his strongest team ever this region, he is evolving everything, Hawlucha, Talonflame, Greninja is going to happen soon and Noibat is evolving as well, he also had a Goodra that he released that might come back just for the league, thats the first he would have a fully evolved team ignoring Pikachu obviously.
This region they are making him wipe the floor with the rivals and even the gym leaders don't seem to be giving him an hard time.
I havent really watched the show since May was the companion, (and I never liked her as much as Misty) though I've seen episodes here and there.

Story is lesser? I'd like to respectfully disagree. While neither game was particularly deep in the story department, ORAS had decidedly better pacing. And the water-thing… The last two Gyms are on islands out in the ocean. And they've adjusted the encounter rate out at sea so that you can basically swim from Lilicove to Mossdeep with only two or three encounters along the way... Meaning you can skip right through the sea routes in a minute or two.
I mean, missing trainer customization is pretty lame, the fact that it's blatantly a remake of RS and not Emerald is pretty lame, and yeah, the Pokémon selection isn't the best, but honestly, I'd say ORAS was pretty excellent. Oh yeah, and the DexNav was brilliant… when used in grass anyway.
For those who live in North America, you can get a level 50 Zoroark with Sludge Bomb, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower and Sucker Punch starting today. You get it via Internet.
Hmmmm so Pokemon Red, Blue, & Yellow getting rereleased on Nintendo eShop…..didn't see that coming.
Doesn't look like I'll be completing the Pokedex again though :V
So cute. ^_^
Although wow to that glasses kid who was such a snob about it.
Kids are into Yu-gi-oh??? What the… yu-gi-oh was a thing when I was a teenager and even then it was just a "mild thing", it made a huge comeback or something?
Oh well, gotta love the two kids that got really excited over it.
The glasses one... I would guess he is trying his hardest (and even too hard) to not seem nerd and be bullied for it. I mean, "pikaku"!? Seriously?
The little super enthused blonde kid is the best.
And yeah, glasses kid is trying way too hard to be cool.
