There are two glaring problems with this post, but I'll let you figure out what it is.

Oh? Crap! They spotted me! Spy better move out fast!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also I was trolling about the animation part of the anime. Only a few spots of the scenes can make it a little cringe worthy.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The far away scenes from the anime can make it a little difficult to animate. Especially the faces, hands, and body structures.
Thank goodness that the real world doesn't have this problem? lol

Except the DVD cover is not animation, it is art. The DVD covers tend to look better art-wise, as it's basically 1 frame, compared to an episode that can have thousands of frames. Sorry if I'm coming off as snobby but I'm pointing this out as I see the comparing of art & animation happening too often.

Joel MacDonald puts too much stress on wanting to work with the actor when he casts them. Every time he mentions casting someone he talks about how important it is to want to work with the actor when they audition. Makes me worry about his casting the best possible option for every role. Disappointed mike didn't come back for sabaody-marineford at least, since they're such major arcs regards casting and emotions.
Not that Joel's bad or anything, but I don't think he's as good. I already talked about the strange duval four voice choice. And in the special feature behind he scenes thing he instructs duval's actor on when to do the accent and he gets that fishman's laugh wrong (I think). They play the Japanese version which sounds like mwuahahehehe and he tells the guy to do a generic mwahahaha. All small gripes, I know, but if I found a few errors in a short twenty minute behind the scenes, I wonder about what other problems there are.

Wanting to work with an actor is a…problem?

I'm pretty sure Mike has mentioned that he helped with casting this season…
I already talked about the strange duval four voice choice.
I seem to recall making a post saying why this made sense and you agreeing with it; guess you didn’t actually read my post. Well, I’ll try and explain it again:
I think with the way the character is portrayed in the story, having four different voice makes sense. Duval is pretty much portrayed as three separate characters throughout the story, all of which have the same accent problem. Let me try and break it down:
“Iron-Masked” Duval: A persona Duval put on after the government labelled him a criminal. In a way, I think “Iron-Masked Duval” is to Duval what “Sniper King” was to Usopp; an alternate identity used to escape from his problems. And in this identity Duval came off as intimidating; a scary underground criminal who was involved with kidnapping and pretty much remained in the shadows, constantly seeking vengeance. In this persona it makes sense to have a deeper, raspier voice than his normal one.
Original Duval: A random street thug. He wouldn’t need to put on a voice at this point, as his true self is revealed, and it’s not the menacing figure he was initially presenting himself as.
Handsome Duval: Once his face changed his personality seemed to as well, and along with that his voice changes to reflect his new self.As for the accent, it doesn’t seem like it was in his control. The fact that his henchmen would say something to the effect of “it’s the accent, he must be really angry” seems to indicate that this is something he probably isn’t voluntarily doing, thus he ends up having it regardless of the persona. Plus most translations I’ve read seem to indicate that his accent is probably not a constant thing.
So basically, there’s Duval’s normal voice, his normal voice after becoming handsome, the voice he is putting on for his persona “Iron-Masked Duval”, and his uncontrollable accent.
and he gets that fishman's laugh wrong (I think). They play the Japanese version which sounds like mwuahahehehe and he tells the guy to do a generic mwahahaha..
No, the laugh in the Japanese version is Mohaha, which is what the voice actor sounds like he's doing in the actual episodes. And even if it does sound a tiny bit different, SO WHAT!? It’s not like it was completely changed! This isn’t a “small gripe”; it’s an obnoxiously overthought complaint.

Mike worked on casting this season? I hope so.
You didn't need to repeat all that– go back and look- I held to my stance that four voices for one character could have been minimized to three. It was too messy to have four.
And yes, valuing how much you want to work with an actor too much is a problem. He seems too interested in that rather than talking about how the actor was sincerely a good actor or that they fit the role very well. He seems to cast for the wrong reasons, from what I hear-- that's the impression he gives, at least. Don't argue with this until you've watched all the special features in the last two voyages. I think he's mentioned how important that is at least three times (and maybe on a podcast episode, too).
And you, like most forum posters, need to learn how to have a civilized debate. You'll never convince the person you're arguing with if you jade them against you by being an asshole.

This was your response to my post…
@Zephray:This is everything I wanted to say, but was too lazy to.
I was confused at the time because you seemed to continue arguing against my point in that very post, but I figured the argument was over at the time so I didn’t continue on.
However, this appears to be the way the character was portrayed originally. Oda portrayed Duval as three different personas, each with the additional accent/dialect quirk (though the accent wasn’t used as much once he became “Handsome Duval”). The original Japanese version gave him 3 different voices (deeper when iron masked, more mid-range when ugly duval, and more giddy when Handsome), with each being able to break out into a different accent/dialect. So why is this a mark against Joel as a director? And yes, valuing how much you want to work with an actor too much is a problem. And why does valuing working with an actor not suggest he thinks they truly work for the role? It seems like a lot of these directors are buddies with the voice actors themselves and pick them for certain roles because they know and trust them. Isn’t that a good thing? They know exactly the type of people they can trust to do a role. When they value working with an actor it sounds like they know them well enough to know if they’re truly capable of handling a role and can work with them to bring out their best performance.
Also I have watched the special features on these sets….And you, like most forum posters, need to learn how to have a civilized debate. You'll never convince the person you're arguing with if you jade them against you by being an asshole.
I was arguing against your opinions because I didn’t agree with them while you straight up called me an asshole. You appear to be the one being uncivil here.

Sometimes, I honestly feel like some of the users put way too much energy into focusing/pointing out only the negative aspects of the dub that they actually fail to enjoy or appreciate its pros, which they would have noticed if they weren't too busy noting down every single minute/negligible flaw.
Every time when there is a new release, I visit this thread only to find out a few users nitpicking the shit out of new content when in fact it's not that big of a deal.
Constructively criticizing something, along with pointing out the pros, is one thing but to shit on almost every single tiny detail can really be grating to the point that the critic starts sounding pretentious

I can see how I came off this way. My mistake. I watch these sets like three or so times each and ration them because I enjoy them so much. I've pointed out plenty of positive things before, and this time I was constructively criticizing the ADR director.

This was your response to my post…
Midod:
Your original post explained that he used four voices: gruff duval before reveal, villain duval, accent duval, and handsome duval. My argument is that four voices is too much for one character– that it should've been kept to the three that were originally in the subbed version-- evil duval, accent duval, and handsome duval. Your explanation that I agreed with identified the four voices, not only three.
And I called you an ass because of your last paragraph-- "...tiny bit different, SO WHAT!? It’s not like it was completely changed! This isn’t a “small gripe”; it’s an obnoxiously overthought complaint." Calling someone obnoxious, stating their opinion is irrelevant (despite their addressing that it was a minor gripe), using caps and !?!?! in a debate, etc. but I will give you this- calling you an ass is also uncivil.
And I disagree with you on the point that wanting to work and be friends with an actor is a good reason to hire them. The actor should be chosen purely on their acting merits-- not so you can be their buddy. We can leave it at that, though, because that point of contention won't change for either of us. Especially since the debate got heated.

Amazon price for Season 7 pt 2 is still $36 but RightStuf has it for 23.98
I still haven't preordered it yet, I might add something on that's already released to get free shipping and go with RightStuf
-
The new voyage goes live on funimation.com in a little more than a week. Can't wait. Will downgrade rightstuf shipping if it doesn't ship before the 12th or so.

Is it sad that Amazon is beating them to the punch now? XD

Not really, Amazon is the "big dog",when it comes to stuff like this.

I think nitwit meant in terms of who delivers the set first. Because rightstuf used to deliver like two weeks early and the last few times they haven't shipped out until much later.

Yup. That's what I said. :)

Yup. XD Lets play Smash Bros together?

Is the next voyage going to include that little filler thing with the race against Thriller Bark? I forget what those little side story things are called, but I know that particular one is my favorite of those type due to the thing with Brook and Usopp in one scene. Really looking forward to the dub doing that one and I'm hoping I don't have to wait until voyage 3 for it.

Yep, that special spans Episodes 406-407. Voyage 2 will have up to 409 on it.

I know its the behind the scenes of dubbing at the funimation studio, with different interviews from the voice actors and stuff, but I don't know the very specific things they filmed.
-
First episode of One Piece Podcast Goes To Dallas is up. It's an interview with the people that edit FUNimation's trailers and promo material.
-
pretty interesting stuff there. I like how they are changing their ideas for the One Piece trailers. While I have enjoyed most of the trailers so far, I still think the latest two are some of the best I have seen. Hopefully this effort will go towards the collections trailers next.
-
One Piece Collection 14 is coming out in November.

Make no bones about it, it's Brook! Yohoho!
And yet another purple spine. Oh, well, I guess it's a fitting color for TB.
And the new set comes out tomorrow for Elite members. Excited?
-
i was just coming to report that the next Voyage is not coming November, so more than likely it will be released in December
-
Just a reminder that the episodes for Season 7 Voyage 2 become available to stream for subscribers on Funimation's website at midnight tonight!
-

Given that voyage three's release date is the 27th of October, it only makes sense that it would be early December.
-
Collection 14 comes out on November 10th.
-
And, like last set, it did not premiere at midnight. Will just have to wait until tomorrow morning/afternoon.
-
Happy to see Brook on the cover and the return of another Straw Hat featured.
-
And, like last set, it did not premiere at midnight. Will just have to wait until tomorrow morning/afternoon.
Well, I feel much better knowing I wasn't the only one to stay up late for it….
-
And it still isn't up. What the fuck.
-
i had just came to ask was it up for anyone else yet, guess i will check back after 5PM EST

s](http://www.funimation.com/shows/one-piece/videos/promotional/season-seven-voyage-three)eason 7 voyage 3 trailer has been released and it features boa hancocks voice. I really enjoy the voice, but the trailer itself felt really weird to watch….it felt too..spoilery I think. I don't know.
-
Boo. That voice sounds exactly like robin. You don't even need to close your eyes to see it.
-
Welp, all of the 8/18 releases have been uploaded to the website except One Piece so that's great…...
-
Bet the sabo announcement and the new trailer was enough of one piece for them for one day. Damnit. Keep hoping.
-
Hancock sounds good to me.
The trailer is longer than usual and slower paced compared to the other two.
-
I was hoping the trailer would show Luffy saying he is going to go save Ace, so it can show the viewers where the plot is headed next
-
Episodes are up!
-
I like the voices for Hancock, Mariegold, and Sandersonia from the trailer.
-
One of the snake sisters is Julie Mayfield using her Dr. Kureha voice. lol
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I can understand why the trailer so much longer and slower. There's not much that happens on this set action-wise.
The NEXT trailer should be much, MUCH more interesting....
