Gotta say, this chapter didn't do much for me. It's fairly typical One Piece, but this time I just didn't care about the characters. It's nice that the arc is finally coming to a close.
Chapter 791: "Rubble"
-
-
Bellamy said how stubborn he is and he won't stop supporting Doflamingo right….. so he'll save Dofla leave the island, then the next cover story will be "the springy and stringy adventures"
-
There something wierd about Burgess.
What DF will he leave the island with?
I imagine he got something from the palace, cause now it's hard to get anything. What if he killed Bellamy in the palace and got his DF?:ninja:
-
Maybe they weren't as powerful, but they were way more interesting, and had way better fights and fighting styles. Machvise's whole fighting style is just a rehash of the worst Baroque Works agent, and Dellinger is incredibly mediocre. Honestly, a lot of them just seemed like people with no combat ability at all, and just powerful Devil Fruits.
I was under the impression that Machvise's DF had the same relationship to Miss Valentine's as Akainu's had to Ace's: same category but superior.
The ton ton fruit (if that's it's name) "uses" tonnes instead of Miss Valentine's kilos, and Akainu's fruit burns even fire: Akainu himself said it (bottom middle panel).

How does that not make it a rehash?
It's a shame such a potentially awesome ability got squandered 2 times already. Just imagine what some of CP9 members could do with it.
That's also one of the things I resent this arc. Unused potential when it comes to fights.

Are you saying Akainu's power is a rehash of Ace's?

Are you saying Akainu's power is a rehash of Ace's?
No? Knew you were gonna ask that. For starters, your comparison isn't very good. Flame and magma are different in their composition, even though they both "burn stuff".
As for M-Wise and Valentine, both of their fruits do the same thing. The only difference is the name. And maybe M-Wise's fruit allows him to become heavier, because ton is heavier than a kilo, or something. Since nothing was elaborated, we can only guess.
The only way it wouldn't be a rehash is if Wise didn't manipulate his own weight, but the weight of other objects he touches, but that is debatable without more info.
-
so they have to fall on the city and the citizen then ?? no ? ( i stated it was just a detail wanting to avoid any arguing over that but i can't help it now :ninja: )
Yes but they're not imbued with haki and there is no tension anymore, also strings are disappearing starting from their origin point so way before they reach the ground everything is gone
-
I guess now that the arc is closing, I've never said anything on all the Rebecca talk that I've seen here and there for a long time, but will say one thing.
Rebecca is a 16-year-old in an overwhelming situation involving life and death who never wanted to fight at all, but was forced to by her father so that she could stay alive. Her character is basically a random kid thrown into a war zone who didn't ever want to be. It's her non-party and she can cry if she wants to.About the age thing. A 17-year-old boy deafeated two warlords, CP9, was one of the people to shine in the war of the best, was the second do escape Impel Down after Shiki, managed to save Ace from execution in the war( until ace decided it's smart to go back and fight some more)

They do the same thing but Vice's fruit is superior to Valentine's since it deals with much bigger weights: one could say Vice could smash Valentine (by way of weight) the same way Akainu could burn Ace.
Judging by the shield Vice carries with him, i'd say he can do that, unless you think the shield can endure 10000 tons and not break (barring plot, ofc): my guess is he can apply weight manipulation to everything he touches (while he's touching) but he doesn't do it VS enemies because that would give them an edge too. I suppose with the proper DF training, Valentine could do the same.

It would make more sense to me that Machvise (not sure why I wrote W in last post) altered the weight of his shield. That would actually explain how Hajrudin managed to propel him in the air. Took all his strength to stop the 10k t shield which then bounced Machvise up since he was hit by 10k t shield.
If he had flown towards those strings with the force of 10k t, there would be no excuse for his survival. But like I said, not enough info. Oda has been pretty superficial regarding his ability, among other things in this arc.

You're talking about Rebecca as a whole over the course of the arc and not just this chapter where she goes brazzers over Luffy's face?
I could stand Shirahoshi's crying. Rebecca's problem is that she flip flops on her convictions and when she does decide to hop into the fray of battle, she immediately cowers and screams "SAVE ME insert Kyros or Luffy here!!!", and becomes a liability whose uselessness harms the people around her. From a real world perspective you can understand "well she's just a kid in a bad situation", but as a reader of a story her existence is annoying and forces characters I actually like (Robin for example) to sit on the sidelines and babysit her while getting severely injured in the process. Don't have her forsake her promise to her mother, a pacifist ideal that Oda hammered into our heads during Kyros' fight with Diamante that she sincerely wants to follow, only to have her run away to pick a fight and immediately fail. Don't introduce her character establishing flashback by having her say "I don't want to be protected, I want to protect others!" only to have her will instantly waver whenever she picks a fight and cry for someone to protect her.
Pretty much exactly this.
Apart from the crying (She's scarcely been the first OP character to do this, male or female) Rebecca was set up as a character who had two things going for her; a) she has amazing speed and defense skills and b) she is an avowed pacifist who refuses to kill or even really hurt anyone.
Apart from Straw Hats and Antagonists she is the next most important character in the Dressrosa story after Law.
Yet for all this she has done nothing to show her skills, the only real example is not being totalled by Hekuba before he had a nap. There has never been a situation where she did anything another character could not have done.
Worse, for me, is that she has done nothing to defend her pacifism. She has never been put in a position where she has stood up for her ideal as there has ALWAYS been another character who comes in to take the decision away from her. The most egregious example being her father who after years of training her demands that she not do anything, totally undercutting any growth for her as a character.
Even Shirahoshi, who's capacity for crying is possibly the entire reason Fishman Island stays underwater, was given more agency than that. -
Personally I expect them to show up at least three times. One for each Yonko fight :ninja:
Doffy is a Shichibukai and the king of one island. He has 13 full time officers! The Yonkos will certainly have enough officers for the strawhats and their allies.Well won't that be great. Even more characters to shove in to an arc which will most likely condense the fights once again. Honestly, I hope that doesn't happen, unless they are simply background characters.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Doffy.:
You realize just how irrelevant whether a character is a good fighter or not is , right ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Who gives a crap ? Are your character standards that low to the point where it's all about combat and ability rather than , you know their CHARACTER ? I can understand if you were only talking about them power-wise but to judge their entire character based on combat and ability is just ...... ridiculous .
How is it irrelevant? I personally think the villains of an arc actually being a threat is a pretty big part in their standing as villains. And seriously, what makes them such great chracters? I keep hearing how they were such great developed characters, but no on ever actually says what they mean by that. Doflamingo, Senor Pink, and Baby 5 were well developed. Everyone else was just the same overconfident lackeys we've seen in every other One Piece arc. I never said it was just based on their combat ability. Most of them aren't interesting regardless.
-
My problem with Rebecca is she can't seem to decide on a character type. I don't like weepy sorts but that doesn't make then bad per se. It's when they flip flop between ethics that it becomes an issue. Rebecca keeps pretending to be thise honed warrior but it just never goes anywhere except back to "noise". At least be crying and do something useful.
-

I never got this argument. She's not some normal kid, she's spent years in the Colosseum mastering how to use the sword. She does have experience.
And even then, in this very series, we have plenty of kids like Chopper, Vivi, Coby, Shirahoshi, Momonosuke, the Usopp Pirates who were able to do more than just cry and ask for help. It didn't need to be a fight, I just wanted her to do something.
-
Well not every character can step up and do or make the hard choices. Rebecca sadly isn't meant to be strong on her own. She did well enough listening to death threats and boos for years. Which as a kid would be a pretty easy to break most lids and teens, she gets props on that at the very least. Outside the arena she has no real experience in fights where ring outs don't matter. She wasn't really set up to be an aggressive fighter.

Rebbecca unlucky even when she tries to help she gets into trouble .
She carry the key to law end up fighting the person who she just found out killed her mother .
Want to help out in fights people tell her to stop and she ends up being used .
With the way how the arc was set up there was nothing for her to do when you look at it. -
Can you imagine what this place would look like if she got Mera Mera? Holy shit…

Oh, she can handle two quite well…
That's definitely not a hard-boiled thing to say. Shame on you, Señor.
-
Let me tell you something about Luffy major battles:
Don Creed defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Arlong defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Wapol defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Crocodile defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Enel defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Lucci defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Moria defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Hody Jones defeated WHITE EYES AND BLOOD.
Doflamingo "defeated" dark eyes. PLEASE THIS GUY IS NOT D.E.F.E.A.T.E.D yet.
-
Doflamingo "defeated" dark eyes. PLEASE THIS GUY IS NOT D.E.F.E.A.T.E.D yet.
We had the typical iconic image of boss is defeated-everyone is celebrating scene .Doffy won't get up as a main antagonist in the story of One Piece anymore.
Deal with it. -
Can you imagine what this place would look like if she got Mera Mera? Holy shit…
What for? So she can never use it?
Would work with me, since I don't like re-used DFs, and I'm sure Oda could find other options for Sabo.
-
Doflamingo "defeated" dark eyes. PLEASE THIS GUY IS NOT D.E.F.E.A.T.E.D yet.
This case could be special because of Doffies glasses and him not be seen without them the whole manga. And now they are broken –> white eyes.
-
my guess is simply that doflamingo has one eye
his pirate flag pretty much refers to that one eye
i dont think he has a demon eye or something like some theories say -
Shit posters beware I shall be returning for next week's chapter …and papa didn't take no mess.

Why did the birdcage disappear then?
-
I completely forgot all about Koala, I wonder how she's doing…
-
-
what does D.E.F.E.A.T.E.D. stand for?
-
This quote is for documentation purposes. Let see how long till all the creeps come out.
Yes cause that's totally what I meant. The guys that Dellinger took out were irrelevant. They did nothing before and most likely they'll do nothing afterwards (at most they'll be allies with the Straw Hat Crew in the final arc as background characters).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
How? By having Gatz talk about how they were taking out even more irrelevant people in the coliseum? Chinjao, Bartolomeo, Cavendish, and Sai (I like him for some reason) were really the only impressive ones there. Okay I'll give some props to Hajrudin even though Luffy one-shotted him (punching 10,000 tons that far into the air is pretty impressive). Seriously, I remember nothing about Machvise other than how he got taken out.
Ideo is a no name and Sai is impressive, yet they had an equal combat in the colosseum
-
Impossible. She already has the Cry Cry Fuit.
Unless,of course, she is a freak like Blackbeard and can handle two at the same time…Luffy needs Mansherry tear bath not Becky's.
-

Sai has got the Drill Dragon Drill Nail. Nuff said.

Ironically Luffy might achieve Doffy's dream and destroy the Tenryubito's world.

It would be nice If DD's there.
A terrified bunch of CD's trying to escape Mariejois, only to find DD blocking their way, with that crazy smile of his.
-
what does D.E.F.E.A.T.E.D. stand for?
Defeated
Efeated
Feated
Eated
Ated
Ted
Ed
DObviously

Oh yea this case is special and when you see his face he has dark eyes when the majirity of villains got their eyes white.
-
Dofla isn't getting back up. Did you miss the chapters constantly telling us Luffy would finish him off with one more attack?
-
Even if he gets back up, CP 0 will finish him.
-
Who was underdeveloped compare to other arcs ?
Even the villains were more developed compare to past arcs .Most Of the character in the arc were underdeveloped or not developed at all… Even some of Dofla's officer got this treatment, but they don't have to be I guess.
-

Some of the characters who seem to be attached to larger storylines only needed to be introduced (like Jean Anglo who may be seen again in relation to level 6) but some of them are kind of annoying.
Machvise, for instance, seems a rather arc-specific character and it's damned frustrating that at this point it is still unsure what exactly he does. -
I completely forgot all about Koala, I wonder how she's doing…
Watching Sabo fight Burgess or wtv they are doing.
-

As i said compare to which arcs ?
Yes there are more characters this arc but not every group or character gets the same amount of developed in arcs.Compare don and his crew to any other villains in the manga and who are they underdeveloped compare to ?
And just don't name single character out of the group since i can just do that also , i talking about the whole group.
The same for luffy allies , some of them get more develpment while others get the same amount as pell , franky famliy ,Ivan group etc etc.
At least give me some egs so i have better idea what you are talking about . -
Getting jailed would be too much of a light punishment to someone who made the lives of many miserable for years and went as far as to slaughter an entire country, let alone the fact he literally said he only wanted to watch the world burn.
Doflamingo must die. He's the very incarnation of a demon.
Well Crocodile did the same, not that far to work in the underground and being part of slavery and many schemes, i agree this guy deserve death, however this guy worst possible punishment should be alive and looking at Luffy and Co turning upside down the world in another way he thought.Hope what i said make sense…
-
In a rematch, both fresh Dofla may butcher Luffy:ninja:
-
Problem is Doffy never had much ambition beside destruction. Crocodile wanted to be king and this dream has now been replaced by the pirate king dream. You cannot die in One Piece as long as your dream is unfulfilled and Doffy doesn't have one so he's dead meat.
Oh and he has the "Death by Secret Identity" Flag ringing all over him due to knowing the Tenryuubito secret.
-
A replacement dream ? I'm pretty sure Croc wanted to be pirate king all along.
