Well, it certainly is a trend to dismiss any sort of critique in some threads. And before you play the negativity card - I liked the last two chapters just fine.

Alas, I will stay out of this thread from now on as far as posting goes.

Hey, I critique whatever I don't like and watch the thread blow up in response. It's normal here. Is there really a good reason for you to just up and stop posting because of a mild comment? Unless you just don't want to deal with people who disagree with you ooorrrrr you just don't care enough about Toriko to be bothered by it all. It's your decision of course but it seems a bit much.

I would point out though that as there can be critiques there can be critiques of…critiques.

Well, first off I didn't really like that instead of maybe trying to start a discussion my comment was just dismissed with implication that I'm not smart enough to follow Toriko (no hard feelings though, I don't suspect any insulting intent behind the comment). Rereading my post I didn't really get my point across: Coming from his first reply, there was never any base to a conversation that can go somewhere anyway. From experience it would have just ended with two sides insisting on their opinion. It obviously would've been something different if I was asked why I don't like it - instead of getting another "Man, not another critique!". I'm totally open for more open-minded conversations.

The point I wanted to make is that you should have also explained even if it's just a little why you didn't like that plot point in addition to stating your discomfort, so that way we can have a basis that upholds your opinion. Go ahead, don't mind what I said in my early post.

I gotta say lately Shima has a way of shoving tons of info dumps on us that are a bit overkill in their presentation. At least I'm having some trouble trying to remember all the specifics of every single bit of exposition thrown at us at intervals inbetween spectacular scenery and killing beasts.

It might just be me, though. Chapter's ok.

It's not just you. This chapter especially had me going, "Huh?" a few times at least the first time reading it. It'll probably be easier after the arc is over though, I've found that that's often the case with Toriko.

He kind of did that before. The main. Difference is that it was usually at the end of the human world arcs.
Now is at the beggining and at the end, plus stuff in the middle, even if it's not as heavy.

May seem like an oversimplistic explanation, but if go back to the human world arcs you will notice this trend.

One thing we can't blame him though. He gives us a crapton of info for us to have some fun with instead of the typical "I WILL EXPLAIN ONLY ONE PART OF WHATS HAPPENING AND CONVINIENTLY LEAVE THE REST FOR LATER FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER" trope.

I'm bothered mainly by the translation, it's "oh, the 7 kings who hunt and live bellown the 8 kings!" it's awkward, yeah, it's always said as "the 8 kings" or "the 7 kings" but it's just too little of a difference. Should have gone with Baron or Counts or something.

Good to see the chefs geting excited and into their cooking stuff. Hopefully we will have some sort of cooking competition coming up, the series could use a break from the constant fighting and twists. At least for a little while I would love to see some "simple" cooking stuff, where dishes and techniques matter.

Pretty good chapter. Nice look into how different the place is for the chefs, and some world building, just what I like about the series. One thing bugs me though. How is it that the new comers to the place know about the regeneration, but the mystery people who seem to be a part of the island were surprised at seeing the coral monster regenerate?

Good question.
Maybe it has something to do with Chiyo´s experience? She probably realised that those cuts wouldn´t be enough to keep the monster apart, and cutting stuff is kind of her speciality.

Chiyo was cool in this chapter and we got some nice world building as well.

It looks like its gonna be Cooking Festival 2.0, which is great.

Maybe the translation was off and they said "It's regenerating!?" Instead in the Manga Panda translation it said "It can regenerate!?". Nothing huge, but if the manga panda translation is correct, it's weird that they wouldn't know it could regenerate. In the end it doesn't change the great Chiyo moment.

Calling it now, Chiyo (and mabye Chinchin) are both going to die at the end of this arc, and be with their deceased son come its conclusion.

Chiyo seems to be getting decent screen time recently, not to mention that whole back story about her and Chin's deceased son and meeting him. They will probably end up sacrificing themselves.

Well I also would have thought that a cooking festival arc would feature a decent amount of cooking but we all know how that went.

I realize it's not really the bread and butter (I'm so sorry) of Toriko but, hey, what can I say, I love manga about cooking.

Speaking of the Cooking Fest, it's the very reason all those chefs are today gathered in Area 6. So you could say it served as a catalyst for this arc.

Great chapter. This arc has a promising beginning and if it keeps up with the chefs showing off their skills and making a name for themselves in this new place I'll stick by it all the way. Especially if there's a competition.

And speaking of her, I wonder when she's going to show up again. She was 24th in the IGO ranking, she made it to the finals, and during the Bishokukai storming she was one of the few standing in the battlefield till the end. We even got her full course.

Which reminds me, in the Toriko databook there's a section which features a popularity poll where fans voted for the ideal combo partner for each heavenly kings. The funny part is the author also submitted one, which to no one's surprise made it to the top in the ranking.

To put it bluntly, the other winners were Zebra & Brunch and Coco & Tylan, two combos that ended up happening. It's as if Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro was expecting these results and did this on purpose.
