Well, at least open up on and share your problems with Mr. Weisman… uh... Nitwit. >__>
So I just saw Home and it was ok. The later half really makes up for the first half which is just stupid and silly for the point of being stupid and silly for the kids. When it reaches for some emotional depth that's when it gets good but by that time the movie is halfway over. Actually, the more I think about it, it was probably the last quarter of the movie.
Anyway, it's not like I didn't expect it to be whacky and silly but it was a little too much for me. I'd give the movie a 6/10. Not to be recommended unless you are bored enough to rent.
But does he HAVE HIS ARMS IN THE AIR LIKE HE JUST DOES NOT CARE!?

Yes, and he also shook his…Boovy.
I love the Watership Down movie. I liked the dark vision of rabbit life. Sort of been hoping for an anime to be made of the book. Less said about the TV series (apart from Hawkbit who was awesome) the better.
It looks like Bill Plympton is releasing his full length animated film, Cheatin', in select theaters around the U.S. after it premieres in New York tomorrow. Shame that I'm broke and nowhere near any of the cities it's playing in.
I need to ask people's opinions on this.
I've been watching many animation studios feature filmography over the last couple weeks, both to rewatch old favorites and discover ones that I missed. One film in particular has caught my attention due to how much I loved it as a kid, in contrast with how little I've thought of it since then - Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
No matter how hard I try my opinion on this film is heavily biased with nostalgia, but after researching it I still absolutely love this movie. One reason I find it so special and above other animated films is that it is just such an excellent adventure movie. The sense of of action and adventure in Sinbad is remarkable, and to make the comparison, it feels similar to One Piece in the imaginative high-seas sort of way. From sirens to giant land turtles, and in the middle of a hot ocean there's a frozen island protected by a giant falcon (with an awesome snowboarding sequence). I simply love this movie.
However that's where you all come in. I wanted to see what similar minded people think of the film in retrospect, as well as what you thought of it then.
The reason I ask this is that I looked up old reviews for Sinbad and discovered it scored poorly with Rotten Tomatoes and the like (46%). Is this a case where the critics tossed away a a forgotten gem? Or is my nostalgia completely blinding my view of things?
Thanks for any response.
No one's even seen Sinbad, so no one has an opinion on it.
It was in theatres for like a day, and unlike other films of the era, didn't get rerun on Cartoon Network constantly like other films from the era Iron Giant, ANastasia, Cats Don't Dance, Road to El Dorado Balto did.
No one has seen Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron either.
And I hope no one has seen the remake of The King and I.
Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic) seemed to like it fine, for what it's worth.
No one has seen Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron either.
Actually, I did see that one.
Once.
About…twelve years ago.
I guess it was alright.
Spirit was not very good. And I saw it in theatres. Haven't seen it since.
It also suffered from the fact that at somewhere during production, the horses were supposed to be silent like horses, and were given narration later. You can just tell there were storytelling sequences that were meant to be silent that then got destroyed by executive meddling. (or at least, that was my very strong impression at the time. I could be wrong.)
Same thing that ruined the walking with dinosaurs movie.
However that's where you all come in. I wanted to see what similar minded people think of the film in retrospect, as well as what you thought of it then.
I haven't watched the film all the way through since I saw it in theaters when it first came out, but I recall having mixed feelings on it.
The villain is amazing, the main character is sorta bland, and the CGI monsters don't blend well at all with the hand-drawn characters.
And I hope no one has seen the remake of The King and I.
Yo.
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/business/dreamworks-execs-have-an-incredible-reason-for-why-their-films-are-unpopular-114283.html
So, apparently Dreamworks thinks that the reason for it's latest films not doing well is because older children (that their movies are supposedly catered too) aren't interested in animation anymore. I think that this article pretty accurately and humorously describes just how odd a statement that is.
Or maybe… your latest films haven't been very good and.or advertised poorly?
Hell, Frozen just passed the billion mark last year, and Despicable Me 2 almost hit that mark.
Funny that in order to draw that conclusion, you have to look at only the last two years worth of films, not the last 5 years worth, ignore one of your bigger successes.... and only from their studio.
Shrek, HTTYD, and Kung Fu Panda have all done fine by the studio, and Croods made almost 600 million despite being only okay at best. (All the way back in 2013)
Anyone could have told you that Turbo was going to be a huge flop, Peabody and Sherman could have been good but was an odd choice that no one under 30 recognizes, Rise of the Guardians should have done better probably, and Home was... not Lilo and Stitch. And Penguins of Madagascar was a spinoff no one wanted.
So weird that Kung Fu Panda 3 is coming out in January rather than as a summer release. And I'm still annoyed HTTYD3 was pushed all the way back to 2018 from its original 2016 slot.

You and me both.
The statement just strikes me as ridiculous when almost every other major American animation studio has had successful grosses at the box office recently with films that don't pander to the youngest children you can market to.
On top of the fact that I thought movies like Turbo and Home were already an attempt by Dreamworks to appeal to a younger demographic than the How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda franchises. Which, to reiterate, have still done well. But I suppose it's not considered a success unless your movie makes a billion dollars globally now.
I'm always surprised Rise of the Guardians didn't do better. It was a decent movie (hell, I liked it plenty), and it was advertised a ton. Was it facing off another blockbuster?

Hotel Transylvania and Wreck-it-Ralph came out shortly before it, but there was a 4-7 week gap, so that shouldn't really have mattered. And not really competing in the demographic but out at the same time, James Bond Skyfall and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Hobbit was out a few weeks later.
It mostly failed on its own merits it looks like.

It's a pretty solid "meh" in my book; the animation is nice but the most interesting characters are sidelined in favor of Jack Frost and the villain is a total chump compared to how he's initially presented.
I remember seeing Guardians but I don't remember it. That about sums up my opinion on it. I think I expected it to be more kickass but it wasn't.
I recall the reviews were sorta middling (and looking back the story/laughs were really light), but I don't think there was anything about the advertising or premise that should have made it bomb as much as it did. Maybe parents were just against holiday characters like Santa and the Easter Bunny playing superheroes in principle?
Anyways…here's the latest trailer for the Peanuts movie. It was on youtube but Fox took it down.
http://www.vulture.com/2015/06/charlie-brown-is-super-sad-in-peanuts-trailer.html Despite the obnoxious song in the middle (and the trailer doing what all trailers do nowadays and show the entire movie in it)…I'm very hopeful about this movie. And I want to make sure I catch it in theaters.
tbh i think they were trying to make the elves the new Minions and kids just weren't buying that creepy shit

I FUCKING LOST IT HERE WTF
Huh, Kung-Fu Panda 3 is being released in January of next year. That's unusual. I guess that Dreamworks wants as little competition as possible after their recent run of films didn't do as well as they had expected.
They've pushed it ahead from its original March release date; presumably they want it out as soon as possible but not so early that it runs into the Star Wars buzzsaw.
It's odd since my understanding was Janurary is a movie dead zone. Usually only bad movies or indie films come out that week.
It usually is.
That's why I thought it was Dreamworks trying to run unopposed at the box office a la James Cameron's Titanic.
I mean, what else is being released in January 2016 in terms of family films? The Nut Job 2?
It's odd since my understanding was Janurary is a movie dead zone. Usually only bad movies or indie films come out that week.
December is Star Wars. Their original slot of March is now Batman v. Superman. May is Cap 3 (Aka Avengers 2.5) and the next X-Men film. June is Finding Dory, and the rest of the summer is worse from there.
They want to dodge those obviously, so late January/February is the only real spot.
So in this case… Yes and no. It's less "only bad movies go to January" and more "There are some serious monsters on the schedule this year."
KFP being in January isn't really a death slot. Yes, no one is going to be on vacation... but it won't have any competition either.
Also, because there's historically nothing great there, they have a chance of setting some box office records for january, and being able to boast about that.
Actually, if Disney really goes through and does a Star Wars film every year (main franchise and spinoffs) then... December may just become Star Wars month with no one really wanting to fight with it. Even Avatar 2 might stay away from there when the time comes in 2017.
Minions seems to be doing fairly well review-wise. Of course it's not the masterpiece you'd expect, it's just funny as heck.

I…wasn't expecting a masterpiece. I mean, none of the Despicable Me movies are masterpieces, they're just fun cute little films.
Both Despicable Me's have a heart most people dismiss/forget about.
Indeed. They're cute, funny, heartfelt films.
^I'm going to be honest. I like Iron Giant but not enough to pay to see in theaters like I did for The Lion King.
–-------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, Minions, of all the freaking movies, just killed it at the box office. Well, they're cute, marketable, simple, and have 2 movies preceding them so they're familiar but, ugh, I'll wait for DVD.
New Danger Mouse!
New Danger Mouse!
All the nostalgia in the world couldn't save this from being awful. ;)
Looks fine from the trailer, I'd give it a chance first. It's got Stephen Fry, Lena Heady and John Oliver providing voices, so that's something. :)
So apparently the main Villian for Kung Fu Panda 3 is J. Jonah Jameson
–
Also a new tv series of the chipmunks has been made.
....
Kill it with fire
It's got Stephen Fry
But how long has it been since he really did something noteworthy? Just went through his IMDB and noticed he hasn't really pushed the boat out in over 10 years.
The Iron Giant re-release gets a trailer.
I want to see this in theatres again. Hope it hits near me and I can manage it. If not, will just have to rewatch it for the thousandth time when the blu-ray comes out.
It's one of those films that I love, but I never really think about until it's on tv and I'll just have to watch it to the end at that point. And if it happens to be a cartoon network marathon where they're playing it all day on Thanksgiving? THen I just end up watching it 10 times that day.
Hee hee. Okay, that was pretty cute/clever.
Oh hey. pretending your a Star Wars trailer before revealing you're not! AUstin Powers did the same trailer joke back when episode 1 came out.
I guess no one is old enough to remember that now so it really doesn't matter and now its fresh again years later.
I don't know what to say to this mini film, or how to sum it up really. Its just great for all the wrong reasons. I guess at least if you don't like the humor you might appreciate the MS paint animation. Adult animated movie

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Unless someone already posted it before on this thread and I didn't see it for some reason? :(
They had plenty of time to make a Danny Phantom/Teenager Robot crossover in the past.
