I see everyone saying Doffy is done, he's getting trashed by G4 luffy but the whole time he is analyzing luffy's ability and his haki usage. To me it just don't seem like someone who is defeated most definitely. I see him pulling a Muhammed Ali by taking the beating to come back with another round with luffy once g4 wears off before eventually being taken out.
Chapter 785: Even if my legs were broken…
-
-
I like the awakening was brought into the fray but… affecting the surroundings? Seriously? That's it? It barely was a power up for Doflamingo, if it fails to impress in the very first time it is used in the manga, it's hard to be excited about its future.
-
Wait a second, if Doffy's birdcage is shrinking and everyone needs a place to hide, why dont they just go UNDERGROUND. What, is the 'birdcage' actually a 'birdsphere'?
-
I'm not sure if Doflamingo is really down, mostly because his sunglasses are still intact (How do they stay in place anyway? They havn't got any temple arms). I somehow expect him to stand up again in the next chapter.
By the way, where are Manshelly and Leo? The last time we've seen them was before they reattached Law's arm and Doflamingo doesn't know they've lost the dwarf princess. This could be relevant for the next chapter, maybe the latter wants to use her powers in order to turn the tables. -
Jinbe has a new kimono.
Burgess and Koala appear.
Riku has an epic speech.
The Parameccia Awakens!!!
Luffy has an attack named after a lion.
A great chapter -
@Eat:
Do you think awakened zoan (as seen in Impel Down) is the same kind of awakening we saw now?
yes,it probably is@Bladia:
Wait a second, if Doffy's birdcage is shrinking and everyone needs a place to hide, why dont they just go UNDERGROUND. What, is the 'birdcage' actually a 'birdsphere'?
well the access to the underground is under the palace anyway..so they are still running in the right direction..but at that point they would be safe anyway, since doflamingo will never cut himself with his own birdcage
also, same problem then with the smile factory..we don't know how many people can fit between the scrapeyard and the port
-
Wow, someone absolutely called it with the leo bazooka.
-

Concept is probably akin to the marines and their "coats of justice" (or they are just pince-nez sunglasses)

@uniaka:
Unless BB plans to build A DF army like Kaidou, I don't think Burgess has smile fruits in his bag. I guess Dd had some super good DF in his palace that he saved it for future subordinates or something.
Prediction: Sabo shows up and beats Burgess. " You could not keep up with me before I got my fruit, talk about now. Burgess grabs the fruit from the bag, eats it "Good, now I can test this DF." It's the water logia!:ninja:
Sabo reaction:
I liked your prediction on Burgess eating a DF in that manner until i read the water logia bit Haha
Got a good laugh from it however, wether or not that was the intent I may never truly know.

@DHL:
This is a way of Oda saying he's not out yet. He's taken a beating like the past.
Then he awakend his CoC and came back.
So would he try to use his CoC to knock out all the citizens so they fall victim to the cage anyways? That'd put a damper on Riku's speech and give Zoro's mission more importance. I must give kudos to Oda for doing a good job of implying how horrid the birdcage is without needing to slaughter the entire country(though seeing more severed limbs and blood would be nice). If there was a way to combine the grotesque Grave of the Fireflies scenes with moments like this, I wonder what One Piece would become.
I'm glad DD mentione Gear Fourth must have a limit because everyone's been spouting crap that Luffy mastered something so beastly in only 2 years. Luffy knows how to gain power even if it means putting a strain on his body so there will definitely be a drawback. Law already stated he is using too much haki/too long which implies there'll be a nasty drawback.
So there are awakened Zoans(waiting for Chopper to Zerk out again) and awakened Paramecias(promising for Robin and Luffy who might get some more fun attacks like in the good days)
I think Oda is going to do something to show how Luffy's CoC > Doflamingo's CoC and with that we may get more info as to how CoC can be applied in different situations.
-
I'm 50/50 on the fight being over, well more like 70/30.
Good chapter, glad to see things rapidly reaching their end.
-
This is bunch of crap we haven't seen DD getting any weaker or hurting from gamma knife wound during the fight, in fact we saw DD getting even stronger. So I am assuming the fact he was hit by gamma knife doesnt really matter, would be beaten by luffy despite of that fact.
Maybe he'll use a string armor form like Enel but only be had for Luffy to deliver a proper final blow and show off what he could do.
-

A great chapterI agree Riku's speech was pretty badass, the music that i had playing on my sound system certainly helped my overall impression too.

Same here. I have a playlist ready for whenever a speech starts.
Actually I have a playlist for all the classic One Piece scenes: fights, comedy, sad moment… -
I thought it was a good chapter. A big portion of it was taken up by King Riku's speech, but I liked the gag that resulted from that. I know there is probably much impatience for the end of the arc, but I like that Luffy's limits are reiterated a few times this chapter. Doffy really is the first foe in the NW that gives Luffy some trouble. I find awakening interesting because it essentially gave Logia properties to Doflamingo's Paramecia and it doesn't effect living people, it's only shown to effect buildings. I'm actually curious about the limits of Haki, too. That hasn't been elaborated on yet.
-

I was listening to some new albums i recently downloaded on a shuffle playlist, and one song just happened to sync up quite nicely.

It's funny, I always thought the poneglyphs were some kind of stone impossible to carry for some reason. And then Jinbe carry it like someone would go to shopping. Make you wonder why the WG didn't gather all the poneglyphs into Mariejoa or something. Well, plot hole.
They weren't impossible to carry, just impossible to destroy.
-
is jesus cosplaying as a devil fruit
-
Riku's speech was plain boring and wasted more screentime for the interesting and important part of this "climax": Luffy vs Doflamingo.
-
So in one translation Doflamingo is making fun of the way Luffy uses his abilities and in another translation he is praising him. Which one got it right? If any…
-
@just:
you can never be sure about that. You can't prove that no one is able to read them, for story purpose only Robin can read them, obviously, but when you are so scared about people finding out what is written on these stones, the best is to keep these stones to yourself, right?
No, Cobra was surprised about Croc's information about Pluton.
yay sure, but let's not forget that it was on the land 400 years ago, and that a king from North blue was actually going to visit that island.
As if Big Mom would do something because the WG decide to take a poneglyph that no one from the island can read, that's not really convincing.
yay, and Jinbe isn't an archeologist. Finding a poneglyph isn't that hard really, especially if you are a high ranked from the World government.
Why are you doing you darnest to prove it's a plot hole, when it clearly isn't?
No one ever said Poneglyphs couldn't be carried. And Jinbe didn't find the Poneglyph, it was hidden inside some underwater ruins and given to him. The Alabasta Tomb was secret, and the city of gold was discovered by Norland.
Stop acting stupid.
-
For some guy who has his insides stitched Doflamingo is really a hard nut.
I dont know how he became so resilient to pain when his style was all about manipulate or cut others from the distance.
-

So you wanted a speech like the one in Independence day???
-
Pretty good chapter overall.
I am 100% sure the fight hasn't finished yet. I believe next chapter we'll get to see what the plan was to stall bird cage, and the execution of it. We'll have Doflamingo get back up, with both him and Luffy exhausted. I see this being like the end of the Crocodile fight, where it's the battle of who can stay standing the longest. I see Luffy using a big attack with everything he's got against an exhausted Doflamingo, who doesn't have the strength left to dodge. That, or birdcage bites him in the ass, stopping him from moving away.
Overall, probably 1 or 2 more chapters left of this fight.
-
I think doffy will be very near death, and luffy will be near death from using gear 4th. Then they will have a slug it out battle like when luffy fought Z.
Then maybe luffy can use gatling gun and which pushes dofla into his own birdcage and finishes him?
I really though zoro would of hit the birdcage by now though, can't wait until next week! :)That would be beautiful. (Haven't seen Z movie tho :ninja:)
If Luffy vs Dof becomes a close combat fist fight. Maybe one of the bigger drawbacks of G4 is not being able to stretch for a while after deactivation. Luffy could still use the speed of G2 I guess. But I would love to see Luffy Gatling Dof close range.
-
No one ever said Poneglyphs couldn't be carried.
pretty much my point. If you destroy a whole island because some people were studying poneglyphs, and if you are so afraid of what the reading of the poneglyph could lead to, you may as well gather all the poneglyphs into a safe place. I'm not acting stupid, I'm using common sense.

So you wanted a speech like the one in Independence day???
King Riku is boring, Viola is boring, Rebecca is boring, the citizens of Dress Rosa are boring. I don't give a fuck about these characters because they're boring. When you try to make them the emotional climax and anchor of an arc and they're boring, it falls flat. Oda had so much material to draw on for emotional power of this arc and he focuses so much on the most boring. It's just a big disappointment compared with the arcs DR should be compared to: Arabasta, Skypiea, Enies Lobby.
The emotional charge of this whole arc has been diluted a lot since it's pretty convoluted and drawn out.
A speech isn't gonna get us back into things again. This fight of Luffy vs DOflamingo is the only saving grace this arc has. And we get more and more 'people' in distress. We've had this shit since the start of the New World. It's getting repetitive as fuck. And is pretty much overdone, it has no weight anymore. -

Common sense also dictates that because Poneglyphs tend to be well-hidden, finding all of them would be hard. It's not like the world is completely explored.
Secret tombs, unexplored island that is now in the sky, deep sea forest detached from undersea island, underwater ruins…
We never found any Poneglyph in plain sight.
-
the patter is just the one every stereotyped thief bag in japan has
Except the patterm was deliberately made to look more devil fruity. Unless you disagree.
Watching that page where factory is leaning to the side and then Franky realising something afterwards, I thought of something. Theoretically, they could stop the cage from shrinking by throwing the factory on the side and lodging those pointy parts of the top between strings.
!
If all strings move as one, then stopping some of them from moving would stop entire cage from shrinking. I don't know what I could compare it with. No mechanism I can think of now fits this situation exactly. But I hope what I mean is clear enough.
Maybe someone suggested it already? Haven't read every page.

Well if the golden bell hadn't flown up in the sky the poneglyph would had been right in the middle of town.

No, people in distress werent given that much screentime in older arcs, and when I say older arcs, I'm referring to arcs way before the timeskip. And as I said, it has no emotional charge.

It was disguised as a bell, though. And protected by a tribe of warriors.

Well, for you I suppose. Just because Riku's boring, it doesn't mean I didn't like the moments with the people in Dressrosa.
And really, I remember the revolutionary war in Alabasta being given a bunch of screentime, plus the people of Skypiea evacuating too. There was also the drama with the Thriller Bark victims.
And I dunno how giving more screentime for those people is a bad thing. Isn't that done exactly to charge emotion? Otherwise, they just feel like they're just there.
-
That also happened in several past arcs. Do you even read One Piece?
It's only obvious he doesn't care for these characters, or even their involvement to the arcs overall story progression so i dont see you changing his mind on this one anytime soon. This is the start of a quotehole I presume.

I think Franky might have an idea on how to take care of the cage. That or he's goona rescue pink bro.

Haven't read the thread but before i do i would like to drop a little input.
First before people start to go crazy about the concept of devil fruit awaking and sharing their hate, i would like us to first consider that we don't know anything concrete about devil fruit, than it being a magical fruit that grants the user ability. Also it is important to note that devil fruit was first introduce in the first volume therefore the author must have some ideas as to where he is going with it, plus he had over 17 years to think about it. I am not saying to take it without giving your input or hate for the concept of awaking but do bear in mind this fact.
I would like also to point out that since Marine Ford there are little hints here and there on devil fruits. First we saw Blackbeard transferring another fruit to himself something that is unheard of in the One Piece world, also note that he used a cloth to hide what he his doing which hint to the transfer having something to do with other things than his devil fruits. On Punk Hazard we learnt that there is artificial devil fruits, this brings up the possibility of devil fruits being something that was created, we also realize that devil fruit can be transfer to the nearest fruit. We still don't know if this is the case for all fruits, and now we are learning about awaking.
Despite the fact that these scenario raise more questions than answers we must admit that little by little since the new world we are getting closer to the truth and therefore we at least should reserve a little judgment. If the reveal still leave you feeling disappointing in the future then by all means go all out and complain. I realize that there are three key things that will be the focus for the rest of the series and now that we are in the final sea they are coming up again and again, and they are:
1. Devil fruits
2. Void century
3. HakiAs it relates to the chapter one thing i can say, can't somebody focus stomp Burgess or punch his teeth in i hate the bastard.
-
@The:

pink bro is like the last people on dressrosa who needs saving, since it's in the middle of the undestructible smile factory

My problem with this chapter: It is unfocused, and more importantly, it repeats stuff we already knew.
Also, man, Dressrosa citizens are complete bunch of sheeps. They need motivational speeches for the purpoes of not letting themselves get cut alive.
-

how the hell would blackbeard know what devil fruits doflamingo has in his safe (if he has any other than the mera mera?)
anyway,it's possible it's just stealing a shit ton of money..it's not like money is not a problem for the yonkous

well that's one piece post-timeskip in a nutshell.

Blackbeard knows a lot of things.. Like how he carefully studied DFs and looked for the Yami Yami no Mi specifically.
-

Yeah, it was a hope speech that needed to use stuff we already knew. What about it?
"One Piece… It Exists!!!"

@just:
well that's one piece post-timeskip in a nutshell.
It very well could be debated that Oda is just past his golden years of writing/continuing this story. And by now i mean post time skip of course as a whole. Not how i truly feel but it might relate with your thinking.
-
Blackbeard knows a lot of things.. Like how he carefully studied DFs and looked for the Yami Yami no Mi specifically.
yeah,he looked at a book that also sanji read.
that doesn't sound like knowing a lot of things…teach is a scheming guy but it's not a mastermind..he himself admitted that he had to adjust his masterplan midway..he is no aizen -
It very well could be debated that Oda is just past his golden years of writing/continuing this story
I don't think that's debatable at this point…it's pretty obvious. Could have been discussed during Fishman Island though, and I'm sure there was a thread about that stuff years ago, it got closed.
-
"Awakened DFs" is going to open a huge can of worms. As if Paramecia wasn't already hard to define….

Some people still think One Piece is just as good if not better, so yeah, it is debatable.
Let's not act like pre-timeskip arcs weren't filled with problems either.
