@Nex:
I mean, she only took Kidd's arm when he was dumb enough to pick a fight with her. She'll destroy an entire Island if they can't make her candy. She's attacking the Strawhats right now. I'd say she's far more intimidating and much more hyped thean the mysterious Kaidou. The only thing we know about him is he'll be pissed if he doesn't get his fake devil fruit.
And that he killed entire crew of Moria for shits and giggles.
Also, I don't believe it was ever stated in what circumstances Kidd lost his arm.
Not to mention, that she might just turn out to be another Hancock.
@Nex:
I'm not normally one to be pedantic, but I'd rework that phrasing. Right now it sounds like you're arguing that the only way to right a strong female character is if you write her like she's a man, which is incredibly untrue. I don't think that's your point, but others will.
It is 2 am over here. And I'm not writing in my native language.
Actually, I would argue, after Martin, that you should write her as you would any human being.
@Nex:
Anyway, it seems like we have four camps in this thread:
- Those who liked the chapter.
- Those who didn't for neither of the two listed reasons.
- Those who disliked it because they see it as sexist.
- those who disliked it regardless of gener because Rebecca's character arc has been, in their eyes, terrible.
Knowing who is in which category will make arguing easier. Darth, I take it that you're group 4?
Yes. Though my dislike also goes sligthly deeper than that into motivation and motives of the entire arc. And because I found Diamante to be somewhat unimpressive.
@Nex:
If so, I'd have to agree with you for the most part. Her arc is easily the weakest part of Dressrosa in my opinion, because it's less of an arc and more of a straight line. ["I want to protect Solider. –> I want to protect my dad.] It's the same issue that I feel plagued Vivi in Alabasta. ["I will save everyone. –> Stop the fighting] No real development.
I think of it more as a regress than anything. "I want to protect Soldier" –> "I'm going to be forever protected by Soldier".
@Nex:
For me however, this has not lessened my enjoyment of the arc. I like the purpose she served in developing Kyros' character, and I found that all the emotional moments involving her worked really well for me.
Some people can just overlook that stuff. I can not.
@Nex:
If none of that has worked for you, then there's no argument left to be had here, and I can totally understand where you're coming from, even if I don't agree.
It didn't. So I guess we can at least agree here.
