! So with some time passed have people been messing with the pierrot s.link? I thought it was one of the more interesting new addition, while I enjoy marie's link she just isn't that interesting compared to adachi. Ending spoiler for the adachi s.link
! I really like how uncompromising adachi is, he acknowledges the time he spent with you even somewhat that it was something of value to him, but compared to what he believes in he just doesn't gives a fuck
General Persona Thread

After two playthroughs (the first of which I missed the true ending) with this pretty much being my first time playing the game (I once rented it before I was familiar with the franchise and got up to Kanji's dungeon on hte ps2 version) I have to say I loved the game and that it made it seriously hard to manage time as it was so hard to put down
! I completed most though not all social links by the 2nd playthrough. Adachi and Marie's ones were pretty cool. One story element htat was a bit confusing was whether or not the fog and turning people into shadows was something that would only effect Inaba, or if it would start spreading. They made it sound like it would effect the whole world at times, but the fog and midnight channel only existed in Inaba making it kind of spotty to me. Also, I wish the true ending wasn't so hidden away. I KNEW it existed, but since I didn't look at guides except maybe to help fuse persona for Margaret's social links, I assumed it would just be obtained by picking the right dialogue options (with one mistake losing the ending or something). Never would've suspected you had to stay after greeting all the social links, and go to the food court in order to get the true ending path started. Really liked the epilogue after the true ending. I remember seeing it and thinking, wait who's the guy with the glasses…. Ohhhh. ALso like how it really managed to provide an entirely different type of cast in comparison to persona 3

Rape face Adachi was one of my favorite moments of the original but from what I have seen from the end of his SL and the final boss where all the max SL come to talk to you, I think nice but still a dick Adachi is my favorite Adachi.
! "You're a dumbass" indeed.Oh and I watched the credits and it might be just be:
! But the fact that Marie appears with her own Persona in the credits could be foreshadowing that she has a Persona now? The only thing I can think that would lead to is a sequel to Arena with Marie as part of the Investigation Team, since she is sorta part of then now.

Is it just me, or are the costumes incredibly fun? How can I resist busting shadows as Santa Clause with Yosuke in a bath towel, Chie as Green Featherman, and Teddie as a cheerleader?

You have to talk to the boy at the shrine during the day. He asks you for a few things(takes more than one day to complete all his requests). The first one is something to eat I think which you can get from the beefsteak shop after that something to drink which I think (though not sure anymore) you can get from a vending machine on the street. After that he tells you he lost his net. Then you have to visit the shrine at night and speak with the woman in white. She should give you it or at least give you a request which has the net as a reward.

Oh I agree, they're absolutely fun! I just have the main character permanently in drag (his "Miss" Yasogami outfit) because there's nothing quite like saving the world as the mighty crossdresser.

Actually on that note how do you obtain the fishing rod?
-
After you get the bug net, take a Tatsuhime Ladybug to the Shiroku store at night. Give the ladybug to the owner by talking to her, and you'll get a fishing hook. Give the fish hook to the old man near Samegawa riverbank, and you'll get the River Rod. Catch the Guardian of the River and you'll get he Sea Rod.
It's basically a fetch quest.
-
Yeah you also need to do that for the final Fox quest since that requires to catch the Sea Guardian.

I don't think you need to complete the requests. I think they just show up until a certain day at which point his net is lost. Giving him food just helps you get insects before the net is available

Im a newbie n i want P5 for x mas. How is it?

@Money:
Im a newbie n i want P5 for x mas. How is it?
In development. Or did you mean Persona 4 Golden :ninja:
-
I meant P4 arena
-
Still waiting for Arena over here….....ughhhh
-
Just did a week(p4 ingame week) along the giantbomb endurance run and I'm surprised. They did a few subtle changes like the day you can join a cultural club, in the original the girls talking about it are random npc assets. In P4G it's an s.link revelant person talking about it to another random npc asset.
I'm also kind of sure they changed the dialog slightly to accommodate that. -
Since we don't have a devil survivor thread and I feel like the series has more in common with persona than the shin megami tensei series I'm going to leave this here
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/12/07/devil-survivor-2-getting-anime-adaptation-in-april/
I can't imagine how this would work out they'd have to choose a canon story line.
-
I saw that at two in the morning, decided that I was up too late, but then realized that it was real. It feels like such an out-of-the-blue choice, but I guess the anime pimping that Persona's getting has worked out quite well for Atlus so far, so they're spreading the love.
It also looks like they're going to make an Overclocked version of the game too. Well, I know if that happens I'll definitely be double-dipping, because Atlus has my wallet by the balls.
-
I have to wonder what end they'll use, but I hae to imagine it'll be the anguished one's ending or the special ending
-
teaser trailer without sound it seems
it definitely looks like they're going with the anguished one.
Makes sense though, it has a good villain and a rather neutral resolution. -
I just hope the main character, Hibiki I guess his name is now, is more energetic than Yu was in the Persona 4 anime. Half the time it felt like he wasn't even trying.
-
i thought yu in the persona 4 anime was pretty accurate to his implied in-game personality. He was a deadpan dude, like how tatsuya in p2 was a punk jerk, or FeMC in P3P was a genki girl, despite being silent protags.
was P4 Arena in tone with his stoicism, or maybe did it energize him a bit more?
-
It was really the delivery, I guess. He just sounded so…disinterested in everything that was going on, to the point that when he did show emotion it sounded forced to me.
Now granted I haven't heard what he sounds like in English yet (insert "JYB dohoho" here), so he could be better there.
-
I very melon understand that. Anime stoicism is kinda over the top sometimes (or maybe it's better to say under the… ground?) and I still had a lot of silent protag feelings what with how much I playd P4, so having to interpret him as a more fleshed out character (which he was, though arguably too quiet) wasn't on my priority
-
I'm going to hate atlus a little if devil survivor 2 gets an overclocked version. They assured everyone that it won't to convince those that would hold off for it.
Well whatever since I don't have a 3ds anyway I may be "safe" of the purchase… Still with arena being region locked and still nowhere near release in europe and this they aren't gathering any plus points with me lately. Also before I forget, my grudge for not releasing any kind of persona 5 news in 2012 grrr :P... -
and here I thought for a moment they fixed some of the gravity issues of the game for the adaption.
-
How long is it until Persona 4 Golden actually opens up? I been playing about 3 hours thus far and just feel like I've been reading text with the occasional fight once an hour.
-
It's about three hours yeah. And then in April you're free. Just beat the first dungeon in one day, the first day you're allowed to go save Yukiko, and then from then on the game is as it is. And every month more and more activities also open up, some of which I don't even know since there's a ton of new content in Golden.
I'm playing it now too! I'm on the second big dungeon, in the month of May, and I'm loving how much got changed for the better, gameplay-wise.
-
Gahhhh, why cant eternal punishment psp come to the US??? Stupid psp and its poor sales now…
-
It's been a very Persona Christmas. Got Persona 4 Arena after P4Golden helped me remember how great it was, which made me remember that I never finished Persona 3, so I bought Persona 3 Portable and am now working through that. Blergh.
Enjoying P3P, but man, Persona 4 improved on so many aspects in that game. The characters in particular seem far more flat in comparison, at least in the early stages. And for all the legitimate complaints over P4's slow early pacing, the world is established a little more effectively; it's a little flabbergasting how matter-of-factly new additions to the team accept the concept of Tartarus.

Additional P3P thoughts:
! I'd forgotten how morally dubious some of the "good answer" trends were on Social Links. I'm encouraging Kenji to pursue his teacher romantically, supporting the Student Council member in his dictatorial power struggle…just feels weird. Think they had a slightly better handle on this in P4.
! On the other hand, one of the things I really like about Social Links in these games is that you rarely know where you want one to end up halfway through. For example, the Strength Social Link with the sports club member with a bad knee...in one path, he pushes through the pain, possibly causing permanent damage, to support a young relative with a similar issue, whereas in the other he preserves himself but loses a bet encouraging his relative to pursue therapy. It's not clear which way the story's headed, and even better, it's not clear which is the better ending.
! So, you take the good, you take the bad, facts of life, yadda yadda -
The Female MC in P3P gets social links with everyone in your party so the characters feel a lot more fleshed out in her playthrough
-
Figured I'd run it through male first since that was my unfinished playthrough, but plan on going back with the missus afterwards.
-
Female MC is superior to Minato as a main character, but there's some regrettably lame moments in her path. Like Junpei's entire social link with her is awkward sexism and pandering >WHAT A GIRL YOU ARE WITH YOUR NATURAL FEMININE ATTRACTIVENESS SOMEBODY IS SELLING PHOTOS OF YOU IN YOUR GYM BLOOMERS I'LL RESCUE YOU and it's just ughhh. The only good part about it is that Junpei and the FeMC are strictly forever bros and it's kind of refreshing.
And whenever you hang out with all of the girls, it's usually more fun than the goofy stilted shit like Operation Babe Hunt, but they also tend to be kind of gendered too in annoying ways. I don't know how many times Mitsuru and Yukari takl about all the goofy shit girls ~have to do~ or just ~naturally believe in~ and it can be kind of dumb. GIRLS DON'T DO THAT SILLY FeMC WHAT U DOIN
Female MC is totally the better main character (her primary mode is Super Energetic and Happy and has as much personality as Yu Narukami does, while Minato/Male MC is just kind of a deadbeat quiet loner and it's not as fun). But… Some of the ways the characters treat you are stupid?
Instead of playing as a girl natuarlly, it feels more like you're playing as a girl from the writing perspective of entertaining otaku males half the time. And she's also given the option to romance a 12 year old so uhhhh
The absolute best part about it is romancing Shinji or Aigis (as far as she ever was, at least, which is kind of hard to define since it's not like either MC has her talking about Love) and it was awesome playing vague lesbians with her
-
Yeah, I'd never really thought about it before replaying P3, but you're dead on about the main characters' personalities. The MaleMC in P3 just feels like a bland pile of emo while Yu always struck me as a nice and personable guy.
What little I've played of P4Arena really confirms that impression, too. Very jokey with Yosuke, but very protective and caring with Nanako.

UNRELATED NOTE: gah fuuka's va
-
That some of the male mc's SLink are insanely horrible doesn't help either.
Seriously I went to P3 after P4 and S.Links like the Magician(whose problems about dating older women I didn't give a f*** about), Chariot(who was insanely boring)and that silly french transfer guy woah… whenever I did anything with them I just had to think about when the scene will finally end.
Those aren't really people I wanted to hang out with. I was actually dead set on doing a all slinks run for p3 when I played it but it just wasn't worth it... -
@The:
was P4 Arena in tone with his stoicism, or maybe did it energize him a bit more?
I've played through about a quarter of the story in P4Arena now and Yu is probably the most likable character. He's often hysterical.
The best part is that there are caricature versions of the characters featured at various points, with Yu's being that he has a Sister-Complex. The entire lead-up to the fight with him is basically Yu screaming variations of "NANA-CHAAAAAAN."
It's amazing.
-
So I've completed all social links in my third playthrough of P4 golden. Currently entering the last dungeon of the true end

Nice, congrats it's quite the grating thing to follow a guide on point for this. I thought at first it will be easy but over all these days it's very possible to make one small mistake.
When I did it the first time on the ps2 version I messed up with the fox and I was so glad that there was another rainy day almost at the end of the game. But the ending is a pay off well worth in my opinion. It just feels very different to have everyone encourage you at the end.
I've been advocating to a friend of mine that he should go for it since he already played a free playthrough on the original and he probably wouldn't ever touch persona 4 again after finishing it on the vita once.

Didn't actually use a guide. I actually had time left over even after making a few mistakes. It was probably significantly harder on the ps2 though, since you get the month's extra time in this, even if you have the extra social links (especially since Adachi's starts filling in automatically after a certain point). Hell, I even had time to upgrade all of the teammate's persona's to the third forms and had a few days with nothing to do
-
Well, the New Game+ letting you keep your stat buffs in Courage/Diligence/etc. is really bloody useful, too. Gives you a ton of extra time you don't have on a first playthrough.

Oh yeah forgot about that xD… since I did it all on my first playthorugh for the vita so that is a significantly tighter schedule.
On a side note if we don't get any persona 5 news this year I'm going to go crazy...

Well it doesn't look bad so far. I do like how they're breaking it into multiple movies to try to fit in presumably most of the social links.

Persona 4: Arena Limited Edition
http://www.game.co.uk/en/persona-4-arena-limited-edition-179816
Is anybody purchasing this? I am keen on obtaining the Vinyl disc.
Just wondering if there would be any UK members, willing to preorder this for me? and then send it to me.
Thanks.
-
pre-ordered it a few weeks back. Before Shopto changed the price from £24.99 to £34.99. Part of me don't wanna support Atlus for delaying the game for about a year for no reason at all. But that limited edition was too hard to pass.
-
I came to this thread thinking that they were gonna release a new version of Persona 4 Arena just when Europe finally has a release date…..if that happened we would only see that in 2014.....don't scare me like that!
Anyway pretty sure this could go in the main Persona thread.

Not buying it, maybe used somewhere along the line but I'm definitely not supporting this whole region lock + massive delay bs. Especially them charging full price while the title is already heavily discounted in the US. Also there are other titles for me that take priority.
So yeah pretty much just voting with my wallet.

We have a new devil survivor 2 anime trailer with more voices and what I assume some bits from the opening or ending?
Man there should be a Megami tensei thread for all the sub series… -
Hibiki openly showing emotion is a welcoming sight after how robotic Yuu from the Persona 4 anime often came off to me as. That scene with Hinako watching Alioth descend is incredibly evocative of Evangelion - not like the story was already wanting for those.
And speaking of Devil Survivor 2, information of Break Record has been released this week. In addition to the same bells and whistles that Overclocked got, Break Record's new story content includes an entirely new campaign that apparently is long enough to be a full game in and of itself. I appears to be an alternate take on the original story where the point of divergence is that the leader of JPs is Yamato's twin sister rather than Yamato himself. The title logo also appears to show the Summer Triangle in addition to Polaris, so there'll probably be new entities based off of Vega, Altair, and Deneb.

I could probably make one with a bit of time.
