Sigfried and Roy do not exist in One Piece, 4kids! -_-
OFFICIAL 4Kids Dub Discussion Mk. II: Alabasta Disasta

New episode clip up at Toonami.com and already Zoro got some stupid dialog…
Zolo: Maybe with these clothes they think we work for Seigfreid and Roy!
Zolo's guess as to why they're getting the V.I.P treatment
I … died inside. :pouty: 4Kids, why don't you watch what you're doing?!!
-
Breaking the 4th wall 4TW
-
I forget… Who the heck are Seigfreid and Roy again? ^_^;
Anyways, Jejune, they've shown commertials for the One Piece toys?
-
They're magicians, and I think one of them got mauled by a tiger.
Zoro apparently is familiar with American pop culture; apprently he also has an inter-dimensional television. >_>
-
Lol inter-dimensional TV…

actually he had a heart attack on stage and the tiger was trying to save him, it just looked like the tiger mauled him. No one knew the truth until he woke up.
-
Lol inter-dimensional TV…
Maybe it's because Zolo, man I can't stand typing the dubbed name, is that damn good and when he unleashes his mind during his fights, he can see across dimesions.
Wow I could work for 4KIDS and help make the plotholes go away, wait they won't hire a person who actually can help them.

What are you talkin' about? 4kids will hire anyone that'll help them (make money) No quality-of-service improvements are wanted…

One Piece "Chase to Rainbase" Edit List
(Original Title: "The Arabasta War Front! City of Dreams, Rainbase")
Compiled by Yash-
The episode title is changed in the dub. In the original, the title was shown over a black background, while in the dub, it's pasted over a shot of the desert.
-
A shot of Vivi crying is cut (3 seconds cut).
-
Vivi is given some extra dialogue at the very beginning.
Random note: For reference: Gum-Gum No Way was in the original as well.
-
An image of Toto, and Luffy telling Ussop that he won't drink all of his water in one gulp is cut (7 seconds).
-
Kanji reading "Katorea - Rebel Army Camp" is erased, before Koza is shown telling a kid to go home.
-
A short flashback to Koza as a child is cut (4 seconds).
-
Some kanji is erased off of a woman rebel's shirt.
-
Okay, this is weird. In the dub, Pell hands the letter back to Nebra, using reversed footage of Cobra handing the letter to Pell. In the original, he gets on his knees and reads the letter, and then asks Cobra if the letter is Vivi's. Oddly enough, the new footage makes up for the lost footage (2-3 seconds lost, 2-3 seconds gained).
-
Vivi's letter originally started off with the revelation that Crocodile is behind the plot to destroy Arabasta, whereas in the dub it begins with her stating that Igaram is dead.
-
A transition that looked like blood pouring, to the image of the people of Arabasta fighting, is done away with.
-
A flashback to Igaram's death is cut, as it was already explained earlier on in the letter (6 seconds cut).
-
The rest of Vivi's letter, explaining that she's traveling with the Straw Hats while showing each of the crew's faces, is cut (19 seconds).
-
A flashback to Luffy putting his arm out with a bandage on it, explaining that it's a mark of their friendship, is cut (7 seconds).
-
A shot of Chaka and Pell, after Cobra tells them that if they fight the Rebels then Crocodile will win, is cut (2 seconds).
-
"Casino" is erased off of Rain Dinners (despite Sanji, among others, being shown gambling in future episodes).
-
Smoker's drink is changed into Chaser's water.
-
Kanji is erased off of the employees' uniforms, and, as always, Smoker's jacket.
-
Chopper is given some rather immature dialogue here: "I have to go potty", "all pottied out", etc.
-
Navy super soakers!
-
One of the Baroque Work agent's guns is erased. No Kryptonite?
-
In addition to "CASINO" being erased off of Rain Dinners (which is now a resort, for reference), "Golden Slots" is also erased off of another sign.
-
More sign edits: "Casino" and "Shooting Raingold" are erased off of two signs in the overhead shot of Chopper.
-
Green Kryptonite guns.
-
Another sign edit, this time, erasing the words "Loose B Slots" (the B was the currency sign for Berry).
-
Another sign edit! The words "Coin Bandits" are erased off of a sign.
-
Bad pun time, this time from Sanji: "Without your big smokey guy, you guys are toast… And I'm the toaster", and "Now you're in the air force!"
-
"STRA" is erased off of a sign behind Sanji, before he kicks the Marines around.
-
Sanji taking a puff of his cigarette is cut (4 seconds).
-
"NUMBER10 Casino" is erased off of a sign.
-
"Big Chance" is erased off of a sign.
-
"Rain Dinners" is erased off of a sign - This one confuses me, since all of the other signs I could understand (as they're casino references), but yeah...
Random note: If you look carefully, you can see Pandaman near the end of the episode, who doesn't sing in the dub :/
-
-
Thanks for the edit list Yashouzoid.
-
I hated all the sign edits.
Man, I hope someday soon they edit this for TV-PG so I can just write down "Unedited". Pipe dream? Perhaps, but… I don't know how to finish that sentence.
Though they really are taking advantage of less restrictive time constraints. I remember back in the Baratie arc, time cuts would amount to like, 3 minutes of footage cut X_X
-
But the thing that makes me wonder sometimes is I know Kahn thinks that most kids today dont read much but these dits now seem he thinks kids are so dumb, they cant even read one word in a sign.
Yeah, Baratie did have its share of time cuts, but longer. Though in most dub eps, time cuts are usually 2 seconds each.
-
There shouldn't be time cuts to begin with!
It's understandable if the necessary (ultra-violence, nudity) cuts shortens the episode's time a little but Jesus-tap dancing-Christ! They shouldn't be editing things out to make the episodes shorter.
-
Depending on the network and advertisers they're working with, they have to. I know most shows on 4Kids.tv can only run for 20 and a half minutes, because the other 9 and a half minutes go to advertisers to fill up with commercials. Typically, Cartoon Network allows a show to run for 22 and a half minutes, but that's because they're a cable network, while 4Kids TV airs on local television, which more people are likely to see.
As these episodes were edited with a 4Kids TV airing in mind, they're edited down to the same 20 and a half minute limit.
Oh, and that edit list didn't include time cuts that just shortened scenes (I only wrote down entirely different shots that were cut). However, there were only two of those, and they lasted each about 2-3 seconds (one was Sanji yelling at Zoro for making fun of his Prince Charming codename, and the other was showing Nami on Eyelash before Luffy started pulling away his water jug from Ussop).
-
and the other was showing Nami on Eyelash before Luffy started pulling away his water jug from Ussop).
I wonder if they'll keep in Luffy running away from Usopp yelling "GOMU GOMU NO WAY!" It'll either be "GUM GUM NO WAY!", or something cheesy, like …
Usopp: Lemm'e have a drink, Luffy! My jug is empty!
Luffy: Ew! Usopp germs! GET AWAY! GET AWAY!Sigh -__-|||

Didn't you see the last episode? They kept it.
"Gum-Gum No Way! Gum-Gum Keep Away!"

Never saw the last episode, because I don't have cable. I thought they were an episode away from there.

Oh, ok. Yeah, that was the episode that aired.

Hmm… The newest One Piece game coming out (Grand Adventure) seems to already have Skypeia stuff in it (A stage, Conis seems to be a sopport)...
It comes out in September, but the dub won't be anywhere near Skypeia by then... Unless they cut cut cut.
-
Anyways, Jejune, they've shown commertials for the One Piece toys?
Yup, there were two versions of Luffy, Sanji, Zoro and Don Krieg, for some reason… But they're pretty scary, they call Zoro "Zojo" and everytime they mention Luffy, they pronounce it how it looks (as in, rhymes with fluffy), which is really silly for every time the hosts say OP is their favourite anime!

For the English One Piece Grand Battle, they kept the Alabasta characters/stages/artwork in when in the dub, they were just finishing Whiskey Peak.

…In ten episodes, they won't even be finished with Alabasta...
And it comes out before my birthday, which is both a yay and nay... My b-day is 8-28, and it comes out 8-22, I believe. So that is about six weeks. Err- they definately won't be finished with Alabasta by then, unless they cut to the fights and only the fights...

Why DOn Krieg, I wonder…
And Zojo is prolly a misspelling of Zolo... j is close to l... :X
And Luffy... ...
-
Zojo sounds like dojo. XD But I thought the English Pirates' Carnival was coming out this fall, though. : /
-
Both are. Bandai makes games fast…

Well it's more of a jazzed up port, than a completly new game.

Dojo? whose that?
-
A dojo is a place to train for martial arts.

Yea I know what a dojo is in term of a martial arts studio. Nicole Louis used the word Dojo like it was a name though. Which I wanted to know who Dojo was. Since I'm not familar with the character or series being called Dojo.

I interpreted it as she was saying Zojo rhymes, or sounds like dojo, not being used as a name.
-
Well… There is "Dojo", that dragon from the show "Xaoulin Showdown".
-

Yeah, I remember how you could unlock Mr. 0 and it was like "LOL SPOILERZ"
I'm kind of looking forward to Grand Adventure. Being able to play as "Trace" is a win in and of itself.
-
I'm also looking forward to playing Grand Adventure and Pirate's Carnival. Is their any official news on the Grand Adventure character list?
Zojo?! Thank Oda that isn't his actual dub name. <_<
-

Everyone from the American Grand Battle… Plus, so far...
Tashigi, Ace (Trace), Vivi, Zeff, Wapol
There's gonna be a 24 playable character total.
-
And there were…sixteen playable characters in the original english Grand Battle correct? THat means three more, Eneru, Waipa, and Gan Forr me thinks (even though I'm not even sure if the the latter two have even been in a GRand Battle game).
-

Wiper was in GB3, and Gan Fall was going to be in GB3, but was cut just before release
-
Has Zeff been confirmed playable? I haven't heard anything about him being playable yet, only support.
edit: saw the new pictures
-
Also, Carue = Karoo.
I never knew that.
-

Well, that's how 4Kids choosed to spell it. Since Oda never really wrote his name in English there's really no official way to know how to spell it.
-
I'm bored. Let's do some predictions of Davy Back Fight (if they get there).
Here's what I think will happen when Afro Luffy appears.
Instead of him saying "OH YEAH" all the time. He'll do his "laugh" in a deeper voice.
Zoro instead of saying "who's that?" will spout a bad Afro pun.
Hell, there will be tons of Afro puns.Sadly, Foxy won't sound like Bill Cosby but instead a vampire (sorry Dragon Warrior).
They'll remove the wood thing in Foxy's pants.
Fox puns all over the place.
The Sexy Foxy will be the "Awesome Foxy"Also, I predicted once long before Lougetown that the episode with Chopper using the Rumble Ball would be called "Let's Get Ready to Rumble" and I was right.
-
Ah, but remember that they changed the afro's part of Drum Island to "fuzzballs".

Cause it was made by yours truly.

Really? I just found it on some other forum and found it insanely awesome. Awesomeness
-
I'm not surprised, it's on Wikipedia and everything.

I've just thought of an extremely crazy thing 4K may do when they get to W7/EL to avoid anti-government stuff:
! They'll make CP9 and Enies Lobby into a pirate secret agent group and pirate fortress, similar to Arlong Park. They'll make the Buster Call the pirate warfleet, and chantge it to Ohara being destroyed by pirates. Baskersville will be a pirate judge, and Spandam would be director of pirate activities. Obviously, plotholes abound, but Al Khan may be crazy enough to do this to avoid being possibily pressed by the media and politicians.

That would be very much something Kahn might do but I dont think he'll take it that far. Sure he'll butcher Enies Lobby but even so, I doubt that theory about a pirate secret agent group will fit in. I mean remember, World Government has been mentioned many times even in dubbed Arabasta and if Kahn didn't like the idea of the Mugiwaras barging into the govt, I doubt they would have even let a character mention the World Govt.
-
Yeah, the World Government has been mentioned in the dub a few times already.
