I always thought brook would have a British accent and Moriah would have an accent.not sound like krusty or vegeta I kinda made up my own voices while reading the manga so it's kinda hard to explain
My girlfriend is only caught up to the dub and I've never seen Film Z. Is it safe to watch it for the first time with her? What will Film Z spoil for her?
-Why Aokiji lost his leg will probably be spoiled… That's a decent sized spoiler... Or do they never say in the film?
-I don't care about attack spoilers or similarly minor things, only plot points.
As far as I know, it only truly spoils the the reason why aokiji lost his leg and pretty much everything we can know about him post time skip. I don't think there are any other spoilers except the look of the crew post time skip, but I could be wrong.

Just the fact that it takes place after the timeskip is a huge spoiler…..
Most everyone has seen and realized that there's a timeskip by now. She doesn't know how it happened or that the crew was separated or anything, but she knows there was a timeskip and new looks. That's not a big deal since it's impossible to hide. Aokiji's battle is the only thing spoiled? And Kizaru's appearance/personality, I suppose. Anything else?
That's pretty much it. I was expecting Luffy to make some mention of his training or something at some point in the film my first time watching it, but there was none of that either.
Well it also kinda shows Akainu as the Fleet Admiral… I mean, it's not outright stated that he is the Fleet Admiral but it can probably be guessed fairly easily from the context.
Is he just in charge of ships or something? That could just mean he's an admiral. Or is he giving orders from HQ?
I mean, I don't know if I'll be able to watch the film with her while muting the few spoiler lines.

He gives orders from headquarters.
I just checked the movie. Im regards to Aokiji, Luffy asks him spoiler-ish questions like why he and Akainu fought, but Aokiji refuses to answer them. Akainu is seen in the very beginning talking about Z, saying he must be stopped, ect. They never show his face, and never mention he's the Admiral, but its still apparent that he has a very high ranking in the Marines. Also, his power is spoiled if that matters. So you've held off watching Film: Z for this long? Must have been hard. The only movie's that I saw first in English was Movie 8 and Strong World.
so i am guessing the december listing hasn't been posted
I nearly had a heart attack today. I came home from work to find a message from my local anime supplier to call him, because a couple of new items came in for me. He ONLY calls me when he gets in new One Piece DVD's. I thought he had already received Film Z, or perhaps somehow S6V1 in stock.
Turns out he only wanted to ask me if I was interested in any of the new DBZ Blu-rays. :-(
That's some quality customer service.
I guess I'll just have to preaatch the aokiji scene in japanese so I know where to mute it.
She was surprised to find a whole committee of spoiler checkers at her disposal. Now she's requesting the scene and the exact time, down to the second, that the spoiler is announced. This way, we can have the mute button on hand.
Couldn't you just wait to watch it? IMO it seems really stupid to watch a film if you have to mute a scene
Have her wait about three years or more until funimation catches up to Punk Hazard? Versus muting one scene for thirty seconds?
Isn't Aokiji… Kuzan's entire presence a spoiler?
Yeah, I'd also refrain on showing Z to someone who's not caught up and wants to avoid spoilers.
The spoiler scene with Aokiji starts at 47:02 and ends at 47:30. The rest of the scene with Aokiji is him talking with Luffy about Z, so that's relevant to the movie, but yeah mute the noted time. There's a scene beforehand where Luffy, Brooke, Sanji and Zoro first meet Aokiji, but the only spoiler there is he says he got carried away when the Straw Hats look at his
! scars and missing leg. The only spoiler in that scene is he says he
! left the Marines.
Hm. Perhaps I'll just preview the movie and know when to pause it. Will definitely mute it at the specified time to avoid the former marine spoiler.
The former Marine thing will be obvious from his clothing alone and actions.
I personally think the best idea is for you to watch it first and decide for yourself whether the movie contains too many spoilers. It can also vary by person. Maybe small spoilers don't bother her, you would know best.
I was hoping Moriah was going to have more of a slithery-type voice like a snake. He is Gecko Moriah, after all. In the end, the voice is still so silly I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take him seriously as a Warlord of the Sea.

Agreed. It just sounds too silly for me too. Krusty is a good example of that.
One wonders if they've even seen the original when they make such remarks as "silly".
The original was high pitched, but I don't know what it is about this one that makes it sound too cartoony/silly. High pitch would be preferable because I feel it fits him more.

Fair enough, though i feel the cartoony sound matches the tone of the show.

Complains about dub voice being too cartoony, but then likes the Japanese voice which is even more cartoony.
:-/
His voice sounds fine to me. Not as whiny as the Japanese voice to me. Which is a very good thing.
It sounds ok to me so far, but I'm not gonna make any final judgements until I see the episodes. I did feel the delivery was a tad off, but yeah too early to really tell.
I'll be honest, the Japanese voice for Gecko Moria is the reason I never watched the anime episodes for Thriller Bark. Also found Perona to be quite irritating as well. The English voice for Moria sounds a thousand times better.
Any idea who directed these episodes? Was Mike still busy with AoT?
And for the record, high pitched doesn't instantly mean cartoony. A voice can sound manufactured without being high pitched and a high pitched voice can be annoying without being cartoony. I think Moria should be annoying and sound more like a snake than a clown. I'm glad that other folks like it though. I hope my opinion will change when I watch the set and hear it mor frequently.

i'm guessing it's either Mike McFarland or Jerry Jewel as they are both in Commentary with voice actors on the first set
Huh, I didn't know that many people didn't like Moria's voice. I think it's great; it's better than being predictably deep and sinister. The dude is a fat, lazy manchild that gets all of his buddies to do his work for him, just like a spoiled little kid. That's why his whiny, high-pitched, crazy voice suits him best, I think.
I enjoy Moriah's voice as well. He really isn't supposed to sound viciously evil or deep, as he is one of the silliest looking and acting characters in the series.
I don't know how you can see this video and not see how silly his Japanese voice sounds, as well. It not just because it's high-pitched either (though that contributes).

I don't think being high-pitched is the sole reason his original voice sounds cartoony. His Japanese voice just seems really silly and over exaggerated in general; the higher pitch just makes it sound even goofier.

When you put it like that I can't tell if you're saying it's a good or bad thing, but I'll assume you meant the latter. Besides it being "silly," what exactly do you guys find wrong with the voice? Moria is a silly character with a silly voice in a sea of silly characters with silly voices. He's not really meant to be slithery or or traditionally evil. Even in the manga he's quite over the top.
I'm not sure he’s trying to say it’s a bad thing. Some people are pointing out that Moria's English voice sounds too silly while others are pointing out that the Japanese voice is also rather silly sounding, so I think that’s what he’s trying to get at. Moria's Japanese voice fits him fine.

What he said.
I do find the voice annoying though (too high pitched) but the silly factor fits him just fine. I just don't see how people can view his English voice as being too silly, when it's actually less silly sounding than his Japanese voice. Of course, this is just so far… we haven't heard much of his dub voice yet.
It's easy to forget, but One Piece is a silly and cartoony show, guys. It's okay to admit that.
One Piece Season Six, Voyage Three : 12/23/2014
*We don't even have Voyage 1 of TB yet and the end is already in sight (as well as the beginning of Sabaody!)
Now up on RightStuf as well: http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/a9uo0j0JxfQ-ms6GuL/browse/item/103433/4/0/0

lol, exactly. I don't know why people expected Moria to have a serious and brooding voice like some sort of stereotypical "grrr evil" villain, whether it be Japanese or English.
Wait, people don't like Moria's English voice already?…
It's honestly just about what I expected him to sound like... it's high pitched and somewhat goofy... just like his Japanese voice... It's actually not QUITE as high pitched as Moria's Japanese voice, which I like, as I found Japanese Moria slightly annoying...
looks like the fourth and final voyage will end with filler :p, either way i am glad these voyages are being pumped out one by one, hopefully the next one is in January, only one more month to find out
I can't wait for Thriller Bark to end. Sabaody Archipelago is easily my favorite arc in the series.
I am so ready to get to Amazon Lily and Impel down, i wonder will they constantly pump them out month after month
Wow, hard to believe we're almost at the Adventures of Just Luffy for about 2 years, huh?
Good thing Colleen had her baby when she did, no?
