Funnily enough, all normal ^B for the third party characters involves a bounce of sorts. Although if Megaman can get Beat, it'd be interesting to have Sonic get Tails.
It really isn't. It's very obviously an "a" with a loop on the bottom.
I dunno… it's blurry enough that I initially saw it as an "e", and It's possible the only reason I'm seeing it as an "a" now is because I've been told to look for that.
The only thing is, it seems kinda stupid that this faker would do such an amazing job everywhere else. Like, that pic of Shulk looks like it belongs there... but after doing that well... he makes a simple typo?...

It's super, super clearly not an e. I mean compare it to the a earlier in the world. Copy and paste the two next to each other. I'm not about to go filter and enlarge the letter just to show it though.
The Duck Hunt Dog not only being in the game, but just being called "Duck Hunt" made it an obvious fake to me, I'm just wondering why someone would go through the trouble this person obviously did with the work on the character images. They all look newly modeled and they fit the style perfectly… Someone's got WAY too much time on their hands lol.

Yeaaahhh I'm gonna go ahead and say that that's not a huge point in its favor because the resemblance is distant at best
Among other things though as was previously pointed out I don't really see why anyone would be touting a unit called ESRB0083, some inconsistencies with the UI, etc etc
After checking the Neogaf thread, I'm leaning toward that leak being real. As for the other leaks I've seen (5 DLC or that Mewtwo/Dixie/Ridley are coming), they sound too good to be true if the first leak is real.
Still, if the CSS leak is real, I think we can expect a few more characters to fix the layout.

The fact that other leaks are clearly fake is not proof that another is real.
I said it with the gedastu (however it's spelt) Assume that ALL leaks are false until proven otherwise.
Frankly I don't know why a duck would be so happy when paired together with a hunting dog and featured as a character called "DUCK HUNT"

Duck Hunt not being called "DOUCHEBAG AND HIS FLYING FRIEND" is what makes me most suspicious.
Can you link to what it is that makes you lean towards this being real?
Looking at it objectively, The things making me doubt keep piling up, like:
- Guy says ESRB is the source, and ESRB is the name of the character, when ESRB don't actually play the games, they look at materials the developers provide them. Even if we assume this is taken from a video or screenshots Nintendo provided them, why would Nintendo name the player 3DS "ESRBxxxx"?
- This.
- Character placement is a little wonky. This MAY Be explained by saying the screenshot comes from a mode where the Mii Fighters aren't playable, so the wonky placement comes from them not being there, but Yoshi being in-between Bowser and Rosalina when we know Smash considers Yoshi in his own series wouldn't happen, and I can't see how putting the Miis in would cause that to correct itself up at the top. The 3rd party characters? Maybe. Adding the Mii fighers somewhere at the bottom could completely reorient the bottom, but the top looks pretty much solid. Also, the clones having their own category as clones seems suspect, especially considering Toon Link, Ganondorf, and Falco are not counted towards that.

- The Character models look right. The poor quality of the shots may be masking a lot of flaws, but The renders of the characters feel like they belong with the rest

The leaker never once said they were from the ESRB from what I can tell. That was just an assumption on the part of those looking at it. And it's entirely possible the name was used to throw Nintendo off th leaker's track as to their identity since leaking would go against a NDA

Why exactly would the player characters in the leak have levels associated with them then other than maybe amiibos, but that functionality hasn't been released for the 3ds yet
With all of these leaks not fooling but duping others, the few days following the game's official release will be chaotic. What is truth? What are lies? Eventually the dust will clear…..but of course, some people will be more receptive to the roster than others.

Ok, so the current denialist theory is:
Someone made reasonably high-quality renders of Dr. Mario, Bowser Jr., Ness, Duck Hunt, Shulk, Wario, Falco, Ganondorf, R.O.B., and Jigglypuff
They made a fake stage select screen, including never-before-seen pictures of stages. They used a leaked early copy of Famitsu as a reference, but didn't just cut-and-paste the image from Famitsu. (Note that simply having played Tomodachi Life isn't good enough: they got the room in the right position, also).
They diligently researched tiny details such as the background color of Fox's portrait, which differs on the box art, and accurately reproduced an anomaly in the thickness of a black line on the character select screen which no one on this forum noticed until it was pointed out by the leak
They made several drastic-but-sensible-in-hindsight UI changes, such as text going away with the icons this small and a whole new screen for selecting customizable charactersNow, I confess that there is no part of this which is impossible. Obviously there are many people in the world sufficiently skilled with 3D graphics to have generated those images, there are many people in the world with lots of free time and nothing better to do with it, they might have had a lucky guess / early access to Famitsu with respect to the stage, etc., but… don't you guys think this is seriously straining credibility here?
I expect a response from Sakurai tomorrow about this "leak".

It appears to be where, at least in the demo (yes, the UI can change but it really makes sense for this placement) that they have the names of players put there, so it seems unlikely to me that they'd place handicap/customization in that location

Considering some models are pretty great, it's really not that much of a stretch to say that some group of people compiled some models or just made enough of the model to make it look legitimate.
The Famitsu layout is alright but I'm still not convinced that it's necessarily the same as shown in the Famitsu scan
Really it's not all that straining in terms of credibility in the grand scheme of things

I've seen that and all it proves is that they're at a similar angle. The features are pretty different and that type of argument is really poor in general

I am judging this one, not "things like this." It would be shockingly lazy if they used the same face model for two characters that are so different.

I don't really see the evidence as astronomical. A lot of it is really, really subjective IMO. Also, I think back to the initial Greninja and Hawlucha leaks in XY that everybody called fakes

It's pretty easy for two realistically proportioned humans at the same profile to have a similar head shape.

The three leaks all came from different people with different Trips on 4chan. Whoever actually created the images for "Leaker 3" seems to be from someone jumping on the fake screenshot bandwagon, but isn't the same person as the first two, so his faking skills aren't quite as good.
The first two have some serious Photoshop work done to produce what look like new renders. Whoever made the Leaker 3 images seems to have cannibalized the first two sets and made new shots in a Brawl mod, which is why the shots in "Leaker 3" look considerably less well-faked than the others.
