Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!

Chapter 269. During the flashback where we see Toriko and Ichiryuu first encounter.
-
I'm interested in what kind of drawback Toriko has to suffer for letting the blue oni take over for a couple of minutes. Probably none because Komatsu insta-cooked AIR for the oni to conveniently satisfy him. And on top of that he will probably beat Heracles. I mean, even Toriko's normal (red?) oni was afraid of it.
-
Uh huh, what did I say last week about the end of the chapter leading to a bullshit asspull? Granted it's better than him fighting with half a head but geez, Shima needed a combination of three asspulls, cure water, Komatsu cooking the air fruit and Toriko having a super demon in his body which we were never told about before, to get Toriko back up. As much as I get a kick at Toriko punching out Supreme God Horse, this is some pretty lazy and terrible writing lol and Toriko being Toriko doesn't make up for it.

He will not beat Heracles, just satisfy him with AIR. Heracles hardly flinched from the punch and is now more annoyed than ever lol.

Okay. I mean, Shima does do this quite often and I do tend to overlook the one off line of foreshadowing dialogue. It being strong enough to handle an 8 King still bothers me, but it's bits like this that make me think Shima does have some kind of overarching plan he's following. Just wonder how much of this foreshadowing more passionate fans catch from this series, cause lines like that I miss more often than not in Toriko.
-
I see people having split opinions of this, even after the fight is over. I'm overall fine with it, provided it isn't a one sided fight, which Toriko doesn't have usually. I'm fine with it because we'll see what Toriko's true power is, but he won't be able to use it all the time, and even when using it, will be limited for quite a while. Since it is Torkio, I won't call it an ass pull, but I can see why people would be bothered by it. At this point, it's going to be more about how this new revelation is used. As for the food luck, I have no comment because I barely remember what it is at the moment. Overall, it was a good chapter.
-
He will not beat Heracles, just satisfy him with AIR. Heracles hardly flinched from the punch and is now more annoyed than ever lol.
But blue oni just snatched the edible AIR fruit away from right under Heracles' nose. I don't think Heracles will be all like "Well, I guess that's fine, as long as you give me another AIR fruit." A battle is unavoidable now, blue oni has received extreme hype by managing as much as hitting Heracles, and I don't think Shima will let Toriko get beaten viciously twice in a row, so I say it will be at least a "tie". Mock me all you want if next weeks chapter proves me wrong^^
-
Next week's chapter will consist of blue Oni getting seriously injured.
Then the next chapter will have red and blue Oni fuse together.
And when that doesn't work, red, blue, and Toriko all fuse into one super creature.
…And they still lose.
-
When did Komatsu had the time to make the thing edible?
-
-
Tommyrod? Is that you?
and yeah rather funny in a bad way. we went to punching and steal food from one of the 8 kings in just roughly 15 chapters after entering gourmet world.
and the air tree is producing more air out of nowhere (or should I say "thin air"?) via "komatsu's magic cooking TM". Totally called it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
and I just realised Toriko just ate one part of Acadia's full course right now, but it was pretty lame, overshadowed by everything else in the chapter. Comon Shima, his full course was hyped up to mean something...
-
@Purple:
The Emperor's New Fruit
I know it's a jojo reference but the name is escaping me.
-
For once it legitimately wasn't a [conscious] JoJo reference. I'm just referencing the story. Alternatively, the movie.
-
When did Komatsu had the time to make the thing edible?
Chpater 284.
Page 1 bottom panel. 3 slashs on a black background. The same slashs in this chapter when Heracles understood what Komastu did.
Page 4-5. The fruits of the Air tree are shaking, and there is a kind of different aura around the Tree, then an entire panel focusing on Komatsu's knife and the weird aura coming from it.
page 9 : Toriko to Komatsu while touching the Air Tree. What many just saw as a very cheesy line. "I'm sure that your cooking (in italics) will protect me. " -

That wasn't the actual ingredient, it was different. Air is what Komatsu and the others are after. What Toriko ate is just to give him a little power to be able to use the blue oni.
-
So this is what Ichiryuu meant when he said there is more than one monster inside Toriko.
Yet Heracles didn't even flinch. Beware, he's really pissed now, and about to unleash its full power. But the funniest thing? Toriko isn't even the one fighting it, but the blue oni.
-
Come on. What is this ?
So…Toriko's a Nitro ? Has Nitro stuff in him ?
-
I can't believe I realize this just now. Toriko's hair is blue, but his eyebrows have always been black!!
-
…Was anyone seriously expecting this? I hope Heracles gives that thing the beating of his life.
-
The less predictable, the better.
Also, the red oni told the blue one they just need to buy time, and I certainly don't think even that monster can defeat a King that is about to unleash its full power.
In addition, Chichi implied it would be bad if the blue one came out, which he did. Toriko isn't in control of that power so it can't even be considered as his.
-
Why in the japanese culture, the Blue Oni is show being better than the Red Oni?
-

Who knows, but the same thing happens with the Nitro. One especies is strong, the other is overwhelmingly stronger.
All things considered, since that power isn't his, nor is something he can pull at will, nor enables him to resort to it whenever it feels convenient, I think there should be no room for complaining.
-
Was it already confirmed that the Blue Nitro are in fact blue? And there is only 7 or 8 of they right?
-
Torikos mom is Frohze, that Blue Oni looks a bit like her
-
I am very displeased with this turn of events and I haven't even read the chapter yet, just the spoiler.
-
Sensu bean water and Perfect Cell DNA? OK, it's crazy enough to fit Toriko's world so I wont complain.
Though the air tree bit confused me. Wasnt Komatsu going to the air tree to cook it? How did Toriko grabbed its fruit?
-
Just finished reading it and… Jesus Christ that was an asspull. So Toriko had another demon living inside of him who hadn't even been hinted at before? Sure, whatever.
But I would've been okay with this if not for it ruining one of the most hilarious scenes last week. Bleh.

It´s not an asspull though, everything that happened in this chapter has been hinted at in earlier chapters, although you´d have to pay close attention and have a very good memory to keep those hints in mind.
It´s not that Shimabu doesn´t foreshadow important stuff, he´s just bad at making these foreshadowings memorable. He does them in some kind of "Oh yeah, by the way…"-way.

Was hinted in one of flashbacks in scene were Ichiryuu picked Toriko from slums to raise him.
-
Yeah, that was brought to my attention, it's very "blink and you'll miss it' kinda deal.
-
Sure, Shimabukuro casually mentions it with a small quip about it way back when, but that doesn't make it any less of an asspull. You can still have something set up but come completely from left field with little actual precedent in the story.
But I mean, it's not like we all were expecting anything less last week, anyway.
-
You know, I always thought the whole demons inside them was more a way to describe their hidden potentials, real "appetite power" and so on. Not that there are actual demons inside them that can have a chat with each other…
-
Foreshadowing it 20 chapters ago doesn't make it right for me when we're at chapter 286.
-

Beggining of chapter 284. You can see in one panel the sound of slices. In the next page the air tree is surrounded by what looks like smoke. At the end of that same chapter Toriko approaches said tree and reassures Komatsu he'll be fine because of his cooking.
What no one expected is that the food would be for the Blue Oni.
-
Toriko is so great as always. Red Oni - Blue Oni, this sure is going to tv tropes. And we also got another zensu beans.
-
Have you noticed Toriko's hair went black after the blue oni came out of his body?
-
Lol at the people who think Toriko ate Accacia's full course 'AIR'
-
Wow, three major asspulls in a single chapter. It's enough to make even Fairy Tail blush.
-
Of course that wasn't "AIR". That was just "air" from one of the baby air trees. Farther up the slow rain hills, you can find "Air" and "AIr", and then "AIR" is at the summit, growing in the grandfather air tree.

And, SURFing off the Eastern coast, you'll find the super secret special preparation ingredient that tastes just like chicken: AIIIIIIIR
-
Wow, three major asspulls in a single chapter. It's enough to make even Fairy Tail blush.
Comparing Toriko to Fairy Tail . Yeah, right, not an exaggerated comparison at all, especially since it was all foreshadowed.
-
I liked the chapter, didn't like the character design of the blue oni.
It's worth mentioning that there's a panel which looks like he's depositing the air into Heracle's cheek rather than simply punching him.
Also as we're seeing the blue oni is able to extend and contract its limbs, how will that affect Toriko in the future? The blue oni can only do this now because he's using the cells directly to fight, but if Toriko is concious and there's no huge gaping wound, will his strength and ability be severely limited? I do like the fact the blue oni reminds me of Carnage from Spiderman though.
Oh and this isn't anywhere near the first time that Toriko has been near death or that the red oni has been helpless, so it's interesting that the red oni said "if the main body dies, it's over for us".
-
Comparing Toriko to Fairy Tail . Yeah, right, not an exaggerated comparison at all, especially since it was all foreshadowed.
Oh yeah, Toriko had blue hair so obviously he housed some kind of god-powered demon inside of him that could have saved him from any number of near death experiences before but decided not to. That's just Occam's Razor right there!
Even if a lot of this crap is what we've come to expect from the series, that doesn't make it good, it just means we've gotten used to a bad thing.

Actually, no, as it has been already been mentioned, Toriko has been stated to have two demons inside of him ever since the flashback chapter where he was picked up by Ichiryu, we simply didn't know what it meant until now.
Also, as it has been mentioned in this topic, in the chapter where Komatsu pulls his knife, there are slashes shown in panel, implying that Komatsu did use it. So, it was foreshadowed, it just wasn't explained up until now.
Also, the healing water has appeared before and so has its potential for healing just about anything. We didn't know that Toriko had one vile of it with him, but unless you expected the main character to die like that, there would have to be something that would restore him and it would be his own regenerative abilities or something like that water.
So, Fairy Tail? I don't think so.
-
Jojo meets Incredible Hulk.
Didn't think about it before but this could be the start of a new trend with Team Inner Demons fighting the Eight Kings instead of Team Toriko.
-
What. The. Fucking. Fuck. Was. THAT?
No, seriously. What?
Sorry, but every single plot device (cause that's what this was about, a collection of dubiously written plot devices) in this chapter was to my dislike. I say this in the most gentle, polite way.
-

You can´t just assume that the Gourmet-Devils were always able to do stuff like this. As far as I can remember it was stated that only after using Appetite energy consciously did the Gourmet-Devils truly awaken. (Chapter 226 Page 5)
And yeah, everything that rereboy said.
-
I see there was some very mild foreshadowing to the many demons inside Toriko thingie. . .seriously, I never would've thought these would be REAL demons that even talk among themselves inside of him?
Let's just assume this was indeed foreshadowed (yet, was the healing water foreshadowed? And by that I don't mean if we knew about its existence, I know we did, but if we knew each and every one of them carried one senzu bean ever since they met old kappa guy. . .), I still don't like it. It was so reminiscent of Naruto, his dad, his mom, Sasuke and the 9 tails having heated reunions inside of the first's psyche it's near laughable.
Is this going towards the "4 kings were demon vessels the whole time" or some shit like that? Cause I ain't down with that, hell no I ain't.
-
Actually, no, as it has been already been mentioned, Toriko has been stated to have two demons inside of him ever since the flashback chapter where he was picked up by Ichiryu, we simply didn't know what it meant until now.
The power of each is so disproportionate that ol' bluey almost entirely invalidates Toriko as a combatant. Ass. Pull.
Also, as it has been mentioned in this topic, in the chapter where Komatsu pulls his knife, there are slashing sounds written in that chapter, implying that Komatsu did use it. So, it was foreshadowed, it just wasn't explained up until now.
Fair enough, still doesn't make it less bad. How is it a good thing or even a sort of valid thing that Komatsu can cook a thing just by looking at it funny?
Also, the healing water has appeared before and so has its potential for healing just about anything. We didn't know that Toriko had one vile of it with him, but unless you expected the main character to die like that, there would have to be something that would restore him and it would be his own regenerative abilities or something like that water.
So, Fairy Tail? I don't think so.
It was literally made known to us for the first time this chapter that Toriko's gang had one and only one vial of this stuff that he then used a page later. If Shima was really preparing for this and not just writing himself out of a corner, he would have thrown that whole page about the team having a one-up at the beginning of the arc, instead of exactly the moments when that knowledge is useful. That is an asspull.

So Toriko grew a tumor that lets him smack gods in their gobs and you don't consider this an ass pull?

Toriko and his demon(s) had conversations with eachother ever since the Jewel Meat Arc on several occasions. (I remember at least 3)
The "Cure water" wasn´t directly foreshadowed, but before they went to Gourmet World Chichi had something to say to them which we didn´t get to see until this chapter. (Which I admit is a little bit cheap, but technically it´s foreshadowing)
Fair enough, still doesn't make it less bad. How is it a good thing or even a sort of valid thing that Komatsu can cook a thing just by looking at it funny?
Komatsu DID slice the air tree, we just didn´t see it. But we saw the slashes themselves.
So Toriko grew a tumor that lets him smack gods in their gobs and you don't consider this an ass pull?
"Smacking gods in the face" and "asspulls" don´t necessarily have a connection to eachother.
