Not surprising. One Piece focuses on the feeling of adventure through island exploration and hardly pays any heed to environments, fauna, flora or climate phenomena, as it's not really important to tell that unless the plot demands it. Toriko on the other hand doesn't leave any leftovers and we always gain new knowledge about the last place Toriko and co. left behind
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!

-
Arrggghh! He did that thing I hate most of all. Why would you say "no..It's nothing" when it's clearly something highly suspect? What's the benefit of not saying anything?
-
Their ultimate goal in this continent is AIR, but who's to say this isn't a major saga filled with many mini arcs where they will be getting other types of interesting ingredients?
8 continents, 8 kings, 8 ingredients. How long it will take to gather Acacia's Full Course? 200 chapters? 300?
While we speculate, don't forget to enjoy every bit of a new adventure that just began.
It's been a while since we've had one of those new ingredient headings, I just assumed that it meant only a short, singular arc not a big one. It would be great if this continent does turn out to be one, really big arc with AIR at the end, but Shima did go really fast pace for the cooking festival so who knows.
Also, didn't notice the 8 ingredients 8 continents 8 kings thing. Seems pretty obvious that each continent has one of Acacia's ingredients and one of the kings on them.
Can't remember if we saw all the 8 Kings already, but I'm on board that frog being one of them. -
Since they are getting to AIR that means they have to cross the Slow Rain Hills and any environment that comes before. In addition to that they also have to get their hands on Melk's knife, and maybe, just maybe, meet with Melk I himself. This journey will be a long one, and have not doubt both the Bishokukai and NEO will also be there waiting for their chance. This is a race.
I think I understand now why Ichiryuu dropped the knife before heading to battle. I would also like to point out that I don't think Toriko and co. will explore all these cotinents one after the other. That would be far too linear and predictable, and this series is anything but that. Of course, gathering Acacia's Full Course is the ultimate goal, so let's see how they pull that.
Out of the 8 kings we have the names of 4: Battle Wolf, Emperor Crow, Mother Snake and Derous.
-
I´m really curious about that classy frog.
-
Very awesome start to GW. Can't get enough of this awesome RPG feel too (8 areas, safe spots, mount, etc…).
-
Although iirc they need that badass sword to prepare air and they don't know about it so I wonder how they'll obtain air.
-
Seems Toriko will deliver where One Piece can't or doesn't want to. Makes me a little sad, but doesn't change the fact that this chapter was amazing.
Was one of the legit complaints I had with the New World so far. This is the kind of shit I wanted to see going on.
What I was told is, the NW is barely starting, we might get to the weird environmental and oceanic shit later on.
So, don't lose hope yet, maybe?
(That said, one of Shima's fortes have always been the huge, out-of-this-world scenery hazards, be them man or nature made.)
-
they have komatsu, the master of preparing food new ways, they probably wont need that knife.
and i completely agree, this will probably deliver where one piece failed in showing how dangerous a new world is.
i'm thinkin 25-35 chapters till next arc which would be a good pace
-
This is a Gourmet World ingredient and the Salad in Acacia's Full Course we're talking about. No less than 50 chapters I think should be an appropiate length. The knife is essential not to prepare but to CUT it, which speaks volumes of its hardness.
-
Or maybe it'll be ten chapters with one chapter anti-climactic battles and a rushed conclusion but that's okay because of all the hype and foreshadowing put in for the NEXT ingredient.
-
Even your attempts at trolling/trying to be fun are not worth even a minute of my attention sigh
-
I honestly predict TLC will be right. And add to the sighing.
-
I'm honestly hopeful that WON'T be the case seeing as how well paced and fleshed out this chapter was very reminiscent of old-school let's just have a fun time adventuring Toriko (before it got muddled with frenetic pacing, cheap soap opera drama and convoluted conspiracy subplots) so we'll see.
-
kouch_lee: I lost all hope when I saw that both in the Grand Line and the New World we have heavily populated cities with average people whose only fear is the pirates and other dangerous people.
I thought the rough climates and environments would be a huge factor even within countries, but even when that IS the case, it´s mostly only because some evildoer is behind the scene (like Crocodile constantly sending sandstorms to previously green towns)Examples:
! -Little Garden: Might be the only exception, along with Water 7. It´s stuck in the dinosaur era, there are actual natural threats like monsters, dangerous insects, and volcanic activity. No inhabitants (except for Dorry and Broggy)
-Drum Island: Only natural threat seems to be the Lapan, IF you make them mad. Apparently that is not a thing.
-Alabasta: The only cons would be the drought and the sandstorms, both confirmed to be Crocodile´s fault.
-Jaya: The Knock Up Stream seems to be the only natural threat. And only once in 400 years it made actual damage to the island. The rest of the time only either helped or obliberated whoever tried to ride it.
-Skypiea: Even the wolves are friendly…
-Long Ring long Land: You might get looooooong. Also the tide changes once a year but that´s only dangerous if you get caught traveling to another of its islands.
-Water 7: The island is not so slowly sinking year after year. It might be solved within the timeframe of the story.
-Enies Lobby: Permanent daylight, but people there seems to be used to it.
-Florian Triangle: Dense mist. Huge creatures hinted to be around, but none attacked during it´s arc.
-Sabaody Archipielago: Unless you have issues with the sticky grass I don´t see any problem.
-Amazon Lily: You´ll get mushrooms growing in your body if you eat them. Sea Monsters around due to the island being on the calm belt.
-Impel Down and Marine Fold: Same as Amazon Lily but no mushrooms.
! Strawhats Islands:
-Kuraigana Island: The mandrills will try to kill you, but this is because they grew up seeing humans killing each other.
-Weatheria: Environment artificially controlled.
-Boin Archipielago: Ok this island will try to eat you.
-Kamabakka Kingdom: Doesn´t seems to have any enviromental hazard.
-Karakuri island: Doesn´t seems to be dangerous except for being unusually cold.
-Harahettania: The major threath is the Longarm Tribe looting and kidnapping.-This covers the GL islands the strawhats have visited-

What a great chapter! This is why Toriko is one of my favorites.
The thorny sea was great, and the classy frog was even better. Bring it on, GW!
-
Was the burning ocean at the opening entrance of the New World not enough weather effect. Or the island which rained lightning, where smokey expected Luffy to reach instead he we to an island of half fire and half ice which eventually was covered by a poison atmosphere. Even in the real world, people manage to live in poor conditions. Can't have unpopulated mounds of space. Just saying.
-
Why you quote me?
I'm not one of those guys saying that OP isn't doing it right. But I do think that Toriko is doing a little better.
No one likes a one-upper, though.
-
Both Paradise and the New World were hinted to be extremely dangerous places, and the umpredictable weather was hinted to be a huge part on this. Yet you go there and see people living their lives, only worried about pirates and other criminals. On the other hand, the Gourmet World is up to the rumours, and unless you are a God Tier (like the Bishokukai elite and 0th Biotope), you
ll get pretty much obliberated the second you get in. Toriko couldn
t even MOVE once he tried the GW for the first time. -

Haha sorry it was association by proximity. I edited it out though.

What I'm saying is basically, extreme things have been shown and can be expounded upon further.
I'm interested in seeing how they ship supplies back through that route.
-
Toriko and Komatsu basically hid the whole year in a safe area. And yeah, I do remember the weather stabilizes as you approach the islands, which at least doesn´t seems to be the case in some NW islands like Raijin Island

What do you mean? It stabilized to a constant thunderstorm… right?

Very good chapter. Classy frog will become Zebra's pet/companion. Calling it now. Ok, so yeah they don't match but it would be hilarious seeing Zebra riding into battle with that thing.
On a different note. Is it just me or is Toriko way stronger than everybody else? I don't like that. I always saw him and Zebra as close competitors. Why in the world did the 3 Kings hang out in the Human World while Toriko went to the GW? If anything Zebra would've went just to get stronger and eat new animals.

Maybe it takes a combo? Is Shima trying to tell us something?
Two minds are better than one, right?

We've seen other people head into GW without a combo though admittedly they were a lot stronger. What I'm really surprised about is how no one accompanied Toriko on that rescue mission into GW. They could not have possibly known the base where Komatsu was held was going to be nearly empty. All the 4 Kings really like Komatsu so it makes no sense they would leave his rescuing up to only one of them. Even though Toriko is the closest to Komatsu the others should have gone just as backup at least. Toriko was assaulting an enemy base in the Gourmet World afterall.

Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of off panel Toriko activity? Do we really know how the Komatsu rescue went down?
But, yeah, I hear you. I wish that Shima hadn't skipped over that little bit.

Same here but I know we're all fairly certain Shima will delve into all of that later in flashbacks and campfire stories.
-
This was basically Florian Triangle meets entering the Grand Line, to such a degree that I expected Toriko to whip out a straw hat.
But I don't care too much. This was the best One Piece chapter in some time.

Toriko Chapter 274 pics …
! http://www.mangabird.com/toriko-274?page=0
! i think these are leaked pics .. looks like a super awesome chapter …. damn .. i think animal partners are really important in gourmet world .. -
What? This early?
-
Apparently Shueisha went from making the first page of the next chapter available, to just a single panel, and now they thought by releasing the first 3 pages will draw in more customers.

Maybe 3 pages cause it's a double issue, where next week we get no chapters? I'm not sure…. does any know if it's a double issue or not?

I'm not sure, but I thought that next week was not the double issue. That's in two weeks.
So we get no OP this week, then an OP chapter for the double issue, but nothing at all the following week due to the holiday.
-
^Sounds right.
They're just playing with the different early releases in their campaign right now I think.
-
The double issue is in two weeks, according to the Weekly Jump livejournal. Still, those preview pics are nice teasers for the actual chapter considering where they leave off with that (literal) cliffhanger.
-
@benjamminbrown, @Samwize78: oh ok… thanks.
Last 2 volumes had 10 chaps each, so I guess now there r enough chaps to fill in vol 30 (if even with 9 chaps), which would still be considered HW. I'm kinda feeling the rumors that he's aiming for 100 volumes (30 HW 70 GW) to be true. Even if not 70 GW (since we dunno where the final land is), but at least 100 Volumes. I'm actually hoping it to be true :)
-
Lol dem faces tho.
-
Damn cliffhangers.
FROGGY!!!
-
Crazy stuff all around this chapter, lovin the gourmet world.
The place Toriko and Cocoa ended up in kinda reminded me of spirited away.
-
Second great chapter in a row. Good going, Shima!
Pretty fucking crazy stuff happening in here. Lovely!
-
Did we ever get a hint on Bewitching food world's location ? Because if we go by this whole setup everything points at this place being it.
-
This is what I wanted, keep it up Shima!
-
They are going to turn into pigs if they give even a single bite to any of that food there!
-
Who's the frog?
Make it happen!
-
They're in Neverland!
-
Toriko is already at Jojo's level in not making sense.
Are you jealous of Kiss, Yun? -
It's nice that the animal companions are being included in this too, shima could've ditched them at this point, but they are still relevant this far into the story
also was quinn just hanging out inside the octopus ass so far? Usually there would be a beak there, but considering how that thing has a noticeable face/what appears to be a mouth… -
"Torpedo Sausage." What a cute name for such vicious creatures.
