No One Piece next week.
Nooooooooo
Yeah, well Barto didn't really do much, did he? He pretty much spent the chapter being a fanboy of Luffy's older brother. I guess I could've included him among the wild cards, but at this point he may as well be lumped in with all the tournament losers who were saved from slavery by toy. Just a giant list of characters who will feel the need to assist the Strawhats. There's nothing to really distinguish him from Don Chinjao and Cavendish atm other than their powers and designs.
Now Bellamy on the other hand, he's sort of interesting.
If there's one thing I really forgot to mention, it's all the concern over Luffy and Ace not knowing that Sabo was alive if he was so infamous. But two years have passed since Ace was alive and I'd think that Sabo's situation has changed a lot since then. Be it undercover work or behind the scenes training or whatever. And Luffy not knowing is laughably unsurprising anyway.
Well i see it a bit different… I think Bartolomeo is or will be a bit more important as for example Don and Cavendish... I see him as wild car as well right now... He still got not a single scratch or anything and we still have to see how his barrier can be overcome... And I think his abilities will be useful for something as well... of course for Luffy-senpai
I would have to disagree with you here. Doflamingo has barely been outsmarted. Luck, overconfidence and blindspots have been the real reasons why he's losing.
Trebol and sugar weren't defeated; Sugar got knocked out by PURE luck.
Diamante losing the mera mera - overconfidence. Seriously, Doffy and his men are in Dressrosa, their own House. More than that, the Hero of the Colosseum and one of his top men, Diamante, is participating in the tournament. Doffy never saw the option of him losing (which up until now, he's right since he hasn't lost the battle). Sabo acquiring the fruit is a HUGE unexpected event, it's probable that Doffy never considered the #2 Revolutionary to appear on his stage. He had complete trust in his subordinates, that they are failing doesn't take away the fact that he's still an evil genius. BTW, seems he's prepared for the worst scenario with this whole birdcage thingy. I like the cynic genius character Doflamingo portrays, don't sell the guy short. Luck and overconfidence in his men and field. That's all.
And this allows for him to see a moment where he failed, which will make his character a more devious and careful persona in the future.
Well I guess I just had higher expectations for Doffy than you do. I saw him as a villain who was gonna have all the odds stacked against Luffy ala Crocodile in the Alabasta arc. He may yet do that with this "bird cage" of his but he has been underwhelming so far.
What I really want to know, what Oda planned for Burgess right now… I simply have no clue... Or will he accept his lose and simply leave Dressrosa
It was pretty obvious that he was trying to keep the Straw Hats out of danger.
He was just trying to shoo in away with some empty threat.
Still silly. .
What I really want to know, what Oda planned for Burgess right now… I simply have no clue... Or will he accept his lose and simply leave Dressrosa
Remember us! Please! Remember us! I don't see Burguess leaving so easily.
But I guess it's possible, if BlackBeard asks him to do so with the Den Den Muchi.
They're now using cnet's scripts, and apparently cnet haven't released the scripts of chapter 743 nor 744 yet.
EDIT: Actually, I just checked, and did release his script for 743, so I don't know. :wassat:
damn, i really hope they continue, even if we have to wait a bit for cnet to put up his translation.. everything seems to have gone down hill once mangarule shut down, CCC even stopped…
This has probably been mentioned already but could the 'Birdcage' be referring to the 'vanishing birdcage' trick? If so then it's understandable why Law is so scared. If Dofla sets up a giant island version it's bye bye Dressrosa perhaps
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanishing_bird_cage
Concerning Sabo…well everything that needed to be said has been said. He pretty much fulfilled all expectations I had anyway. 2nd in command of Revs, Dragon's right hand, possibly trained by Dragon, now gets the Mera Mera...I applaud Oda following through.
No, Bird Cage can't be something that has to do with dressrosa's environment or pica locking in dressrosa with stone because law had never been in dressrosa so i think its maybe one of these
1. Cora's ability stolen by DD this would explain why law was in shock
2. Kaido backup (maybe a top tier in case the SMILES was compromised)
3. ancient weapon
4. Literally a giant bird with a DF (and this could play like Oars did in thriller bark)
5. or DD removes his glasses and activates the sharingan and puts everyone in a bird cage illusion
What I really want to know, what Oda planned for Burgess right now… I simply have no clue... Or will he accept his lose and simply leave Dressrosa
I think Burgess was destined to have the Diamond DF, but I bet he won't leave dressrosa empty handed or without making some real damage
Don't worry I haven't stopped yet.
I'm just busy and I won't be around till Tuesday :P

yay, thanks for the update! you're a hero.

My bet would be on Zoro having to fight Shiliew using diamond devil fruit. Maybe after Dressrosa we will see for example BB pirates ambushing / openly attacking one armed Jozu on some island in New World.
Would be neat.
Birdcage is probably an ability of Doflamingo but I really like it if it were something like a Buster Call. You know one way or another Doffy is Tenryubito. He said he was one but that might only be his perception. As in Nobles won't or can't recognize him as a mere folksman. It's sad that we have to wait for two weeks.

Well he would not destroy whole Dressrosa. But it seems like he feels cornered and has to use his trump card.
I expect him shutting off island with his DF power and maybe even some New World Brokers like Jack comming to Dressrosa and backing him up in setting things to how they were.
And its nice that we dont get 3 pages of spoiler for One Piece with this chapter as 3 pages of One Piece are worth more than 3 average chapters of Bleach by how much content and information they hold.
As one panel spoiler from last week showing Sabo jumping with Rebbeca and his beard/helmet/shades falling of was harmless overall and just made wait for chapter even harder, 3 pages would be too much considering how tense everything in One Piece lately became.

yea like when we saw shanks and whitebeard confrontation we get that but this time marco, vista, jozu vs blackbeard pirates
i wonder if Sabo at that famous, there is no way Ace didn't know about him.. but again, if they meet each other, what is the reason Sabo didn't save him in war.
1. he could get famous during time skip
2. maybe dragon forbid him to go because of some greater purpose…. or smth

Not paying attention to what is Birdcage, I think Doflamingo has to forsake Dressrosa now. He shouldn't be insist on regaining his old Kingdom because what's the point of it? He is an interesting character and his status before the SHs came is plain statics. He runs a business, maybe the business… So what? What is he trying to accomplish? How is he going to do that sitting on his ass at Dressrosa? Answers to this question might make his character highly meaningless to my point of view.
First of all we didn't get a flashback for Dressrosa, neither he didn't say anything about his goals or dreams. That's why I can't argue about it to lengths. But to my taste, for an interesting character like Doflamingo he has to be flying on his wings not sitting in a cage. Maybe birdcage is Dressrosa and he is going to fly now.
And this chapter kind of concludes that Doflamingo literally got his head cut off by Kyros which is underwhelming. How can Kyros be that strong and fast? Imagining he is at the same level with Doffy it shouldn't be easy as that. Since there are only so much time for explanations... Let's see.
I read this elsewhere but what if Birdcage is a codeword for Cp-0?
I think Dofla will escape with his core crew on a ship. It's somewhere in the palace. It was hidden using Pica's ability.
That aqueduct that was built by Dofla? They will use it to launch their ship, Coup de Burst style!
There.

Ancient Weapons might be at work too? Since Dressrosa is a country heavily themed and have it's history… Ancient Weapon might be too much but perhaps a poneglyp with some useful hints on it?
And yes... Since CP-0 is there and basically the counter force for Revolutinaries their screen time should be close.
@Myu:

Well, with Dofla being shadow broker and all, anything is possible. He's a shitty shadow broker if he doesn't have access to all kinds of obscure informations.
I was mostly joking, but Dofla's ship should look pretty interesting. Especially since there's a good chance he can make it fly using his ability. It could have been designed with that in mind.
I like your idea. Also this reminds me when someone in this forum predicted that Revolutionary may be tied up with one of the yonkous, now this could be it. Since kaidou is supplying weapons at war, revolutionary are already involved and La(w)uffy alliance has planned to take out kaidou.
Oda is a mastermind. It was mentioned that to survive in the new world you have to wither work under a yonkou or take out one. And law said that a yonkou's crew is usually so big that people who try their shot at them get defeated even before being able to meet one. So this makes perfect sense to have large alliance for luffy to help defeat a yonkou crew (especially kaidous, since he's got an army of DF users). Furthermore, this also sheds light on what Hawkeye said during the war, "Luffy has the most fearful power among the people in the sea, the power to make allies". This is his first (or second, I'm not sure) day in new world and he already has bunch of super strong people ready to help him.
Don chinjao- since he sworn on helping luffy
Cavendish- now doesn't want to kill luffy but might help him out because of the infamy he will get for helping luffy
Hijarudin and other warriors - decided to follow ussop so might as well help the SHs out
Revolutionaries- since they have a common enemy (a little far fetched but the organization is run by dad and 2nd in command is his older brother, this was bound to happen)
Luffy owns the Happou navy.
I will quote myself from different thread
So I think that this might be at least part of Bellamys role in this arc.
For me, it seems like he's much more likely to join Barto's crew. Barto needs some strong crew mates, if he's really want to be of any help to Luffy in future big battles.
Still wondering a little about Bellamy's crew.
I suppose it's possible he lost some of his crew on Skypiea, then returned to Dressrosa with the pillar. Where the rest of his crew, like that annoying Sarkies and that annoying woman, were turned into toys.
Hope it's not left unexplained. Oda doesn't really leave loose ends.
Does Sabo already have a devil Fruit ? Does Doffy really have the Mera Mera ? Does the chest on the back of the fighting fish contain a devil fruit ? Is this fruit a fake ? If it's a real devil fruit, is this fruit the Mera Mera ? Is the fruit booby-trapped ? Poisoned ? AAAAAAAAAH!
I should stop watching Hunter x Hunter, it really has unnecessary side effects on my brain.

Lol, I can imagine Sabo wondering that and more, in the several short moments before jumping from the platform and opening the chest.
Some of you guys are seriously overthinking this.
In mangastreams translation he said "i had to" i bet its just a last resort of his df power where hes connected his whole body with strings, and slicing off limbs wouldnt do much( law/kyros)
Anyone?
Why do you say that CoA Haki was invented during Thriller Bark?
It doesn't make an appearance pre-Sabaody (I'm not counting Garp's Fist of Love; if you want to, you can say maybe it was invented in the late Water 7 arc but … the way Oda responded to a particular SBS question makes me feel like that's not what happened ... Plus my next point). Ace and Blackbeard's battle makes it seem like logias are invincible, even in the New World. Not only did everything seem to contradict armament haki existing, it's not at all foreshadowed or built up until Sabaody onwards.
I haven't read all the pages yet, but Conqueror's Haki was foreshadowed since the beginning, Armament Haki during Luffy and Crocodile's battle and Observation Haki in Skypea, so Oda introduced one thing after another, so assuming that the east blue being the weakest sea is understandable that nobody on that side knows about Haki being a thing
… Really?
@LordEnel:

MS's translation of this chapter was one of the worst I've ever seen them put out so I don't place much faith in their take on that line.
In Aohige's summary he has Dofla saying "I'm going to have to resort to using Birdcage" which implies he hasn't used it yet.

1. CoC - when Shanks taunt that sea monster that ate his arm
2. CoA - not sure though
3. CoO - mantra in Skypiea
Spoilers(pages) of Bleach, Illegal Rare, Stealthy Symphony, World Trigger, Assessination Classroom, etc, etc. are already out(the ones you get with the Jump App)
3 pages each, just as they promised, releasing 3 pages from their mangas when OP is in hiatus. That was cruel.
I have no idea why they came out so early.
I kind of don't understand, the Jump is coming out in Monday with chapter 744 in it. Since the Japanese people will not get the chapter the week after the Jump is released in japan, so the promotion shouldn't be affected by the hiatus for US.

The first one might have just been a killing intent. Seaking sensed it and flinched. Doesn't prove Haki was there from the start.
I'd like to think Oda planned it from the start, but you can't really be sure. Not even if he himself claims it was his intention. Some discrepancies are still there, can't deny that.
1. he could get famous during time skip
2. maybe dragon forbid him to go because of some greater purpose…. or smth
I'm considering the possibility that Sabo probably wasn't someone who was publicly known pre-timeskip, otherwise Ace would've at least heard of him. I'm guessing that when Dragon decided to make some changes within his organization in alignment with what has happened in the fallout of the Marineford war, having Sabo come out to the limelight may be one of his moves. Justification? May come later in the series. May have something to do with Kuma's full conversion into a pacifista.

Most likely scenario is that he had a general idea of what he wanted haki to be but didn't perfect the whole concept untill later in the story.
And Sanji didn't get burned by Pearl's flames because "his spirit burned hotter than fire" i think that was the first hint of CoA and that was way back in barate arc.

Here after getting hit he says "could he have" and that was before luffy revealed he was using water.
Again here he was about to say something "how could he have …" then he realised luffy was using his own blood.
"Could he have… founded my weakness?" Obvious
"Could he have...mastered Haki?" farfetched
"How could you have... touch me ? "Obvious
"How could you have... mastered Haki ?" farfetched
I am not saying you are wrong but do not expect people to take this as a proof.
How could he have… touch me ? Obvious
How could he have... mastered haki ? farfetched
But there was no "how"
Could he have "touch me" or "touched me" sounds weird.

That's clearly "Could he have figured out my weakness?" Dunno about the original Japanese, but the Viz translation in that top left panel is "Impossible … Did that kid ... ?!"

Again here he was about to say something "how could he have …" then he realised luffy was using his own blood.
Which implies "It should be impossible, there's no wate- OHHH, BLOOD."
Actually, going by the Viz translation, turn back two pages and he thinks "Impossible! He has no water! How was he able to kick me?" And the page which you used, he goes "You … ! Did you ... [next panel] "… Use blood?!!"
These two sequences actually imply Crocodile doesn't know that Armament Haki exists more than it does that he considers the possibility of Luffy being able to use it :p

How you come with this conclusion???
Blackbeard makes it sound like him being able to hit Ace physically (by sealing his powers) is a kind of thing he's never had to fight before, and then kind of goes, "Oh, that's impressive! As expected of one of Whitebeard's commanders, you can fight well anyway!" or whatever. But as one of Whitebeard's commanders, he's probably had to go up against haki users quite a lot, so surely he'd be used to taking a beating, having to guard against and dodge physical attacks etc.
The original point was that he may not be considered one of the stronger member's of BB crew which is entirely plausible
You can claim it's plausible all you want, but if you have no logical argument to back it with it ends up being just a baseless thought.
Ever since Luffy has been shown to have mastered the basics of haki, he had used it when facing logias so your point about "vain attack" baseless.
Yeah, let's forget about Pre-TS Luffy where he kept on attacking Crocodile and Smoker despite knowing it doesn't work for shit. But Burgess throwing a fucking house on Ace?! "That's SO DUMB!11!" Who's being obtuse here?
Being "Brawn and No Brains" may not indicate a character is weak but relative to the other members of BB's crew who may have brains on top of being brawny, the point that jesus is not the strongest caption in that crew is entirely plausible.
No, it's not. Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.
Who else is as "brawny" as Burgess in BB's crew? And who else aside from Laffitte and Shiryu showed some brains?
How is this anything but pure conjecture? The very definition of a "baseless thought".
And I like how it went from "Burgess may be one of the weakest BB members" To "Burgess may NOT be the strongest captain in the crew"… Shows the confidence you have in your "argument".
Stop! Don't fight for me guys!
I haven't posted one of these in a while, but I have more time lately and I really liked this chapter so…

Ok so on doffy's bird cage.. One vital thing we know is he sets his strings in the sky (when outside presumably), but what if he has a whole string system already set up around dressrosa and plans to do a similar thing like he did with king riku and his army initially? Maybe that move was the birdcage
you make me remember of the sky path doffy talked about when going to punkhazard, maybe it has to do with a string setup like you just said?

Ah then i apologize, translation errors are so annoying:sad:
On the second part, he could technically be in denial of him having haki although it's unlikely.
birdcage = king and queen card….maybe royal flush...lol
wait is birdcage really a hand in poker? never heard it before

If Ace fight vs haki user, they can touch him, but not sealing his power. Ace was surprised because BB power can sealing MMnM power, he cannot dodge BB attack because YYnM attract him. Van Augur "his basis fighting power is amazing" , I think Augur talk about Ace haki.

luffy doesnt look like luffy, and ace neither in my opinion
Don't worry I share this opinion too. The ratio mouth/face for Luffy isn't respected. Ace definitely doesn't look like Ace, he is too different from Sabo. And the 3 of them have a weird look in the eyes.
But I had time to spare, so why not. Someone ask for the same with Coby, but it was funnier with his brothers.
Wonder if Oda is going to use this opportunity to throw out anymore hidden characters.
Like oh that guy we all just forgot about that totally kicks ass
I was thinking he might introduce a new crewmate of Roger, then again, he just introduced a massive amount of new characters this arc so im not too sure

Fiiiiine. I guess I don't have to hunt you down then. Yohohohoho!
I haven't posted one of these in a while, but I have more time lately and I really liked this chapter so…
Kuzan! I definitely expected Jinbe, but I'm not complaining. Hopefully Oda taking any suggestion he likes regardless of which character it is is a permanent thing now, because this one is hilarious.
I thought Sabo's plan to get the fruit was handled pretty well. He layered chaos on top of chaos in order to snag it while nobody was in a position to stop him. And I thought Oda managed this without marginalizing any of the characters in the finals, since it appeared that any of them could easily go for another 12 rounds. They just got tricked. It happens. Even after eating Sabo's fire fist, Burgess and Diamante don't seem all that worse for wear.
Despite the concerns about it being overly cliche, I've figured Sabo would wind up with the fruit since he appeared with that motive. And I can't say I really buy into the concerns about him becoming Ace 2.0 either (in regards to power). Before eating the fruit, he started with a very high tier haki moveset that was vastly different from anything Ace ever did. And apart from the most basic of fire attacks like fire fist, I don't even expect him to copy hardly any fire abilities either. There will probably be a bunch of fire dragon type stuff, which isn't the way Ace utilized it. On the other hand, had Burgess won it, he'd absolutely have been Ace 2.0 with it. He would have copied all of Ace's moves just to twist the metaphorical knife in Luffy and the readers, since that'd be the entire reason for him to win in the first place.
Thank god Koala showed up to bring Sabo his clothes. I dunno what we'd do without her. I've been hoping against hope that she'd actually do something cool, but I guess this is it now that she's teamed up with Sabo. Maybe she can at least relate to Robin, who's right around the corner at this point. They can be like... the sisters of unfulfilled potential.
Speaking of which, lol at Oda teasing us with more Robin vs Trebol. I won't fall for it this time! It's cool to see her attempt to stand and 1v1 him though, even if nothing comes of it, so I suppose I'll take what I can get. I don't really know who was responsible for blocking Trebol's attack with that boulder. The chapter was hugely unclear on whether it was Hajrudin or Robin that managed it. Robin's hands do suggest that she was responsible, but the timing of Hajrudin's interruption is very suspect. I know people want to talk about the movement lines of the boulder, but I'm sorry, there are movement lines on both sides. They tell nothing, and probably just represent the thing vibrating from either landing in place or getting hit by Trebol's attack.
Messiah Usopp killed me. Especially the way Hajrudin was holding him up by both arms (it almost looked like he was going to rip them off). The fact that even guys like Don Chinjao were getting into it cracks me up. It's a shame that the "I will lead you" gag was pretty much lost in translation and I had to look at a raw before I really understood what was going on there, but I can't exactly blame Oda for that one. I will admit that I was initially slightly miffed about the striking similarities to Buggy-sama's messiah gag. But I got over it pretty quickly after thinking about it, since everything Usopp did was entirely legit, unlike Buggy-sama's trickery. He legitimately won all these people their freedom by facing impossible odds, and he legitimately attempted to stop their praising of him initially. Gag aside, it's probably the most accurate depiction of a real messiah that the manga has produced so far.
It's funny how in the matter of one chapter it went from all the tournament losers dogpiling Trebol to all the tournament losers dogpiling Diamante. Poor guy can't catch a break. Well, he has been the least impressive of the executive officers so far, so this is actually a good opportunity for him to redeem himself a bit. And I have no idea why the image of him making a flag out of himself makes me smile so much. Trebol and Burgess seem like huge wild cards right now. It's hard to say whether Trebol will prioritize Robin or the factory, and it's even harder to say what Burgess will decide to do with his newly found rage at losing the fire fruit.
Sabo does seem to have quite a bit of Coby in his design, but whatever. Nice touch to see him having some difficulty controlling his new powers. It's a happy medium between combat breaking and learning too easily. I like that he had a good reason for being in the country beyond simply coming to acquire his dead brother's power. The weapons factory that Caribou sank is probably what Sabo is referring to, but I don't think that's all there is to it. My guess is that there are multiple weapons factories, and that was just one of them.
Sabo being #2 didn't really surprise me at all. I guessed that he would've actually been part of some elite group, like the revolutionaries version of the 3 admirals (not necessarily as strong, but the same idea), but this is fine. I can't really fathom what people who are trumpeting Iva are thinking, since he should've lost to Sanji towards the end of the timeskip. And Sabo is certainly better than that. I can accept that he's Dragon's version of an admiral level fighter, especially after eating the fire fruit. Marco, Ace, and Jozu were matching up with admirals two years ago with varying success rates. And Sabo, who was once equal with Ace, now has the same power, two extra years, and potentially many more years of focused haki training than Ace had. There have to be characters in the series who can match up with the admirals, and Sabo seems like as good a bet as any. That doesn't mean that I think he'll just start running off and fighting admirals, though. I don't really see any reason for him to butt heads with Fujitora, for starters. But he might fight Trebol, sadly.
I was worried that Kyros going up against Doflamingo right away was just going to get him punked before he could do much of anything, but I'm glad that's not the case. The guy has really been able to show off quite a bit in only a few pages since returning to his human form. It was nice of Buffalo to sacrifice his body for the sake of team Kyros. I'm sold on the guy. He's awesome. It's going to be a bitch when Doflamingo makes him fight Luffy.
Thanks Law. I was worried that maybe you wouldn't be annoying about all of this. What is it with Oda making his damsels in distress have some irrational hatred of rescue.
Pica showing up is pretty cool, and Bird Cage is very difficult to speculate on. I think I'm most curious about whether it's what's keeping Doflamingo alive or not. Even if it is, it almost certainly goes beyond that.
I like how, despite how dire things may seem to be for Doflamingo, his crew is still pretty well off on the whole. Vergo and Monet got taken out on PH, Sugar got scared unconscious, and Buffalo just got worked by Kyros. Baby 5, Jora, and Senor Pink have all taken some scrapes but should be good to go for round 2 whenever. Pica, Trebol, and Diamante haven't had it easy by any means, yet I'm not sure any of them have even been scratched to this point. The real fights may not have even started yet.
Zoro was left alone to figure out where to go for himself, making him the biggest wild card ever. It's anyone's guess where he'll wind up. And with so many other wild cards wandering around like Fujitora, Sabo, and Burgess, it's really hard to get a feel for where this arc is heading.
Good post, I missed reading you, thanks for sharing your thoughts

@.access:
Why would that be? Do you assume Luffy defeated Rayleigh? Or Zoro defeated Mihawk?
If at least Sanji's training had something to do with defeating Iva, I would understand, but it didn't. It was about stealing the 99 recipes Iva gave to the 99 masters of Newkama Kenpo.
Not meaning anything about Sabo, though, I am perfectly fine with his position.
Wait didn't iva say he would give the recipies or the info on luffy after sanji beats him? That's how I remembered it, ill go check it up actually
Edit: Never mind I was wrong, just checked it up and iva gave the info to sanji after beating his ass because the information was given to the whole world
