So I actually got to watch this at work, after discovering that the sysadmin was secretly one of us. One of us mentioned a Pokemon experiment to him over a private IRC channel and got the reply 'PRAISE THE HELIX FOSSIL'.
Though by this point, they'd implemented the 'Democracy' rubbish that makes everything a whole less fun. The sheer difficulty of ever getting the right sequence of commands is what made this fun, and what made trivial things like THE LEDGE and THE TREE so epic.
Still, at least Anarchy has brought us further true-to-the-spirit-of-the-game hijinks. Drowzee totally stabbed Flareon in the back there.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
You guys should probably make a new thread for this and stop clogging up this one, heh.
Is it possible to move the x pages we've had so far into a new thread rather than jumping ship from this one midway through the discussion?
-
Twitch Plays Pokemon is an ongoing social experiment whereby tens of thousands (currently over 80k) of people are playing one copy of Pokemon Red - at the same time. Commands are entered into the Twitch feed and transferred to the game, albeit it with a lag of about 30 seconds, so no one person out of the multitude gets to exercise much control - it is truly a group effort. Despite early predictions that they'd never get anywhere, the TPP team managed to make it to the Rocket Hidehout, having defeated such obstacles as Brock, Misty, The Route 9 Ledge, That Tree in Front of Erika's Gym, and the Spinny Tile Maze, although not without experiencing significant losses on the way - namely the starter, ABBBBBBK (, a Charmeleon that nevertheless had no fire moves, and 'Jay Leno', a Ratata with Bubble Beam.

Should have never gotten that Eevee…
-
Should never have gone democratic. I lost all the respect I had for the creator and admin of this entire game right there. :/
-
Can't wait until Sabrina's gym.
-
@Toraish:

Agreed. I almost never condone spamming/trolling, but I was there for the birth of start9. It was hilarious.
-
I've seen this it's bonkers. The novelty of watching this wears of fast. So I guess you rather want to participate but even that seems ardious.
Last time I've checked in they were doing some slider puzzle(floor tiles that change your direction). -

I felt crushingly disappointed at it. The whole point was the 'monkeys with typewriter' scenario. Otherwise, it's just an average (in a more genuine meaning of the word than usual) playthrough, and where's the fun in that? You'd never have had The Ledge in Democracy mode, nor the heartbreak of Abby's release, or even based Helix Fossil.
I hope they take it back but I'm scared that that's it now.
-
For the most part at least it seems most people are favoring anarchy… but yeah. It's really a dull and drab feed if all you do is move once a minute basically
-
At first I thought the democratic stuff was undertandable, if not tolerable, considering how long it was taking them to do the sliding puzzle. But then a commentor brought up a good point that it completely defeats the purpose of the experiment. Even if that was what it came down to, the players trying to get through the sliding puzzle for days on end, at least the experiment would stay true to its original intention. Of course, if it did come down to it, I'm sure enough people would eventually get bored with it that the remaining players would become coordinated enough to pass the puzzle.
But that's probably why the creators did it. They were probably afraid of people getting bored with it and the project losing steam. And, admittedly, I'm sure a lot of people would be disappointed if they never made through the whole game. In any case, I guess we'll just see what happens now.
-
I hope they only use this for parts like the Team Rocket Hideout maze, Safari-Zone or Seafoam Islands that would take ages otherwise.
If they keep on using this mechanic it ruins a lot of the fun. -
And just like magic, this thread grew…
This piece of fanart (I wish they included artist names when they share these...anyone know?) kind of shows why this needs to keep the 'anarchy' mechanic - it creates stories well beyond the scope of the game, defines the characters in ways they never would in a regular environment, and is just a lot of fun. It's a crowd-sourced saga.
-
Is there no footage from the very beginning of this? The earliest I can find is about a day in.
-
It'll probably get uploaded somewhere afterwards. But until then, there should be some highlights uploaded, like this one:
(skip to 8:40 for the actual release)
-
This is probably the most powerful one of these posters I've ever seen.
Due to its beautiful simplicity. You just can't miss the message. -
So does anyone know which Pokemon are on the team right now?
-
-
Will i sound bitter if i say that the democracy / anarchy debate itself is what is killing the feed and not the actual mechanic? I mean, i didn't see any village getting torched when we lost start days back.
HOLY SHIT, I JUST WROTE THAT AND A PASSERSBY IN POKEMÓN Y JUST OFFERED ME A KABUTO IN A TRADE, I'M SCARED GUYS.

-
Ugh, Democratic mode is just awful.
-
! On Helix we trust.
-
Oh snap! They're fighting Giovanni!
-
Whelp, that was disappointing :/
On par for the course though.
-
And this proves that anarchy is the funniest option. This kind of hilarity isn't possible with democracy.
I was literally screaming at the screen when Pidgeot went down to 1HP. So very close.

Same lol. I thought we would scrape by, but nope. Whirlwind.
-
So I don't get how this Anarchy/Democracy bar works. When the left bar gets to the bar on the right, that means they switch to democracy?
-
Did whirlwind do something in gen 1?
Cause that thing is prety much useless. -
So I don't get how this Anarchy/Democracy bar works. When the left bar gets to the bar on the right, that means they switch to democracy?
When enough votes for democracy move the bar to 75% of its length to the right, it switches the system to democracy and vice versa for anarchy. It's why the feed continuously processes anarchy/democracy votes and why people keep pushing for it.

This has changed my life. This thing will revolutionize interactive media. This both represents what has been as well as predicting that which has yet to come. The answer to the enigma that is the meaning of life. Gone are the days of Man warring with sticks and stones. The Saviour which shall lead humanity into a utopia of world peace, in which everybody is a facet of the same mind controlling the fate of the O Chosen One. Everything desired shall be attained once the Champion has arisen.
This isn't a game. The world isn't limited by perception. You aren't a player. Thou art O Helix Fossil.
-
Did whirlwind do something in gen 1?
Cause that thing is prety much useless. It was an auto battle ender for wild pokemon encounters.
It wasn't until Gen II that it got the attribute of forcing the opposing player to switch to a different pokemon.

Ugh completely forgot how that thing was useless back then.
-
Also forgot how Wrap totally immobilizes you for 2-3 turns. Man, Gen 1 had so many kinks.
-
im watching the yellow version of the Twitch series..better than watching everyone on the SMB one telling him to keep going right..Marios fell off the cliff 15 times in a row now and still falling LOL
-
!

Wasn't the antichrist already defeated?
-
Oh God. That was magical. Finally got through team rocket's layer, was in the same room as Giovanni, and they used dig.

Did…did they just burn away 2 days of hard work? We have a new antichrist, the DIGRAT!!

Nah, that's the second time they've made it to Giovanni today.

This doesn't sound fun at all it just sounds like a way to get yourself aggravated

Eh, it's what people say about Marriage.
-
Meanwhile…
This fandom is amazing.
-
This doesn't sound fun at all it just sounds like a way to get yourself aggravated
That is kind of the big appeal though. With something as chaotic as this yet at the same time with the crowd knowing what objectives must be met, to achieve even the simplest of things gives the feeling of incredible feats as well as giving more hilarity and life to things in the game you couldn't imagine otherwise, like the helix fossil or the party of pokemon they brought along, kinda like a Nuzlocke run)
But oh! the achievements! Like the damned ledge! Or cutting a tree! Or the spin maze! Or slaying the false prophet Flareon of the Dome God Kabuto!
-
They are fighting Giovanin! I REPEAT, THEY ARE FIGHTING GIOVANNI!
BIRD JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL!
