This manga is getting really interesting didn't see it on here thought I’d share
Akame ga Kiru!

-
Read the first chapter.
! Jeez, you'd think that his childhood friends getting TORTURED TO DEATH would be treated with a little more gravity! Any halfway relatable person would be absolutely crushed and hysterical.

! I understand what you mean it seemed a bit wtf when at first it didn't seem like it was gonna be talked about, and it looked as tho it was just the plot point for him to join night raid but later on they play a more mental toll on him
-
! The story doesn't look like it'll last long imo. The reason being that the author went through most of their backgrounds and reasons so quickly, and killed one so soon after her flashback intro. The only real intrigue at the moment is what Teigu will be compatible with the main char, and when he'll reach Akame's skill level. Apart from that, there's fairly little to look forward to apart from the revolutionary army and enemies that have not yet been introduced.

! I totally agree the manga does not seem like its gonna be a long manga at all, but who knows things can always change with a little world expansion.

He already killed their murderer. He has no one to be angry at.
And he mentions them every chapter.

Guess he is mad at the society that could allow the type of thing to happen

Well, yeah, that's true, but I was talking specifically about how he was handling his friends' deaths.
After catching up with the series, I have to say… this series is weird and demented. I love it.
-
pretty interesting chapter..

@D:
pretty interesting chapter..
! Deng I knew Braht was strong, but didn't expect him to kill one of them already, really good chapter
-
So i just read chapter 1, I liked it, but as it has been said the gravity of the situation wasn't portrayed that well.
I'll keep going to see how it goes.
-

It's a shame that…
"don't click the spoiler tag, if you haven't seen the raw"! .. he dies in the end just so the MC gets his teigu
-
I really wonder how long this manga will last with the pace its going at atm, still enjoying it tho
-
I really like this series, it seems to stay lightheated despite what goes on in it.
My favorite thing about this series has to be the enemies though, you hardly see enemies shown on their lighter sides.
Also, given Wing's intro, is he going to change sides maybe?

When you say Wing do you mean Wave? I might have read a different translation, but like you said by his into and the lack of men that are in night raid atm I could see him switching sides.

I meant wave yeah, and new chapters out.
I mean… I saw "it" coming... but not like that.
-
Pfft… totally knew she was gonna choose him, doesn't make it any less hilarious though, wonder how this is gonna play out.
-
Just read the latest chapter updates up to chapter 19,
! and im not sure that wave may switch as most the members of Jaeger seems to be content with what their doing much like Night raid is content in the path they have to follow, its also good to know that the sweets Kurome kept munching on arn't just regulary sweets, but something more. Lookin forward to the fight bewteen the Okama and Night Raid.
-
I really like the enemies in this series, I usually hate to see them die. I'm especially taking a liking to the whole group of Jaeger.
I feel kind of bad.
-
More chapters are out, how far is this series in anyway?
And as usual things stay interesting in the series.

Chapter 27 came out 4 days ago in Japan

Oh, I was curious if we had a thread for this.
This series does a great balance between the main characters' team and their enemies, they end begin all likeable. The fights are really well done too. The humour is great too, it's serious (by serious I don't mean the parts where it has people dying horribly and such things) when it has to be and funny when it has to be. It hooked me up easily, everyone should atleast give it a try. -

-
Finally caught up on this. This author likes taking away making me feel bad.
-
I'm just wondering if the main character will ever become a leader. for me he's still too naive.

Nah, Tatsumi is more of a cute little follower that the girls like to hit on. The only way for him to become a real leader is for everyone else to die, which unfortunately is possible in this manga.

Can anyone explain what Akame ga Kiru! Zero in in relation to the timeline of the original? I know Panda screwed up the releases today. And does anyone know if we will actually get a chapter for Akame ga Kiru! soon?

Read it here http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/akame-ga-kill-zero-r9902
I didn't read it yet, but it happens before the original story. Also, we usually get a chapter every month, so I guess the next one is only in February. -
Well this is a pretty dead thread. I'm sure the ones who read the manga already know this is getting an anime adaption though
Also, I'm not sure where this picture came from, but apparently Esdese's name is "Esdeath" and Mein is "Mine". I hope it's not the official way to spell their names, because Esdeath sounds fucking retarded.
-
Well, Esdeath does kinda sorta sound like the intended pun, "S desu," which means she's a sadist. I guess she causes death wherever she goes, too, but the english transliteration changes the original pun completely.
And Mein becoming Mine is completely fine imo, since it makes sense when read in english. マイン is pronounced just as Mine is. I always thought Mein was Chinese or something, going by the name, but w/e.
-
I caught up with it today and must say that it's… average, to be honest.
Feels like a weird mix of Needless, with some Blazblue, FMA and other minor influences. The "shocking" death scenes and twists are fairly predictable as the author is a fan of "a few pages of flashback and one flag before I kill them off", the gore ranges from pretty tame to same mid level scenes which is often - unlike Berserk - very redundant and offers nothing but cheap ways for the readers to symphatize with our MCs who avenge them in a way. Not to mention that! Esdese's timestop ability was more than just very inspired by Dio's The World in its presentation and every girl falling for Tatsumi were more than just annoying. In any case, i don't see the hype at all.

I only read it a few months ago, but from what I can see, it's definitely a case of the whole being better than its parts. It's not the kind of superb series that everyone can agree is good, but that doesn't mean its unoriginal content is anywhere below decent.
It's certainly fun and actiony, but that said… the people hyping it up like the next FMA are probably just fangasming for lack of a better word.
-
The violence is certainly un-common to a generation that grew up with "the hero never dies, or kills anyone. He's a pure hearted saint". The '80s were almost 30 years ago.

But then they have Shingeki no Kyojin so it's still weird if this work gets lauded on that alone (haven't read it nor am interested)

Speaking of heroes like that, Samurai Flamenco's eyecatches usually say something like… "hero will never give up, never hide, never be defeated, never accept evil." :P
Certainly a large difference between Akame and Samumenco.

I didn't say it was bad, just average - like Needless.

The 1900s were over 110 years ago and people still read books form that age. I don't view manga is that different. And it's not like Jojo, HxH, Shingeki and several other series who don't shy away from some gore aired a few months ago/are still airing. And then we have Mirai Nikki, Deadman Wonderland, etc. - no, this is def. still the case. Just because a lot of authors switched over and called their publications Seinen in the past 20 years doesn't mean that the demographic has changed. Hokuto No Ken was probably aimed at the same crowd, but back then Seinen wasn't as established as a "brand" so WSJ age range was way higher.
This is - more than anything - a case of people just not having the experience instead of being not being used to some gore/deaths in stories aimed at teenagers. -

You don't really.
You read classics that have endured the test of time because their content appeals to any age. Something tailour-made for the audience of the early 20th century would probably offend you beyond belief. It would have archaisms like "the Negro race is a hardy stock" or something that would be tough to not dismiss outright as racism.
In the super sanitized, violence/sex free universe that is modern media, the post popular stories are those which have violence/sex. They're different, exotic, and 'adult'.

None of those titles are "seinen". They're all shounen. The idea that violence/sex is the domain of adults and immersion in it is a rite of passage is why we have this double standard problem.
This is - more than anything - a case of people just not having the experience instead of being not being used to some gore/deaths in stories aimed at teenagers.
Most anime/manga actually start off assuming the readers have no experience.
"super strength" is the best example. Guys who can perform feats of super strength are reacted to with surprise in the manga. If you're an experienced reader, this probably bores you because you expect it from comics. For a new reader, their standard of comparison is the real world, not manga, so the impression is shared with the in-universe characters.
Manga is plenty different from how it was 20 years ago. Just read moe stuff.

Did I miss a chapter? Or did Mine confess off screen? And now they are a couple?

I post here to say I absolutely love this series: great storytelling, great characters, great coreography of the fights, it's funny when it has to be funny and filled with drama when it has to be.
But the last chapter… my rage has just trascended boundaries.
-
Whether he lives or dies Wave is a f'n hero. That guys deserves a medal for that punch.

I was so happy! I was worried that Wave would be stuck with the Empire forever trying to protect Kurome, but maybe he's realizing exactly what he's fighting for.

The writing for the villians approaches SAO tier in this series. I mean: A pedophile, bisexual, black, fat & insane clown, really?!
This is like a checklist…"Let's add all the tropes a lot of xenophobic otaku and edgy teens seem to think make for good villian."
"That looks over the top and is absurd in its hilariously obvious attempt at creating sympathy for the main cast and characters we want them to like."
"Who cares, they will buy it regardless" -
The anime is really good. I'm hoping they won't end it without showing Esdese a lot. I wonder on what arc they would stop the production of the anime.
-
So errr what's with the 'Kiru' in the thread title? The cover of the volume in the first post even says Akame ga kill.
-
More weeaboo is always good.
-
-
Oh of course how silly of me, I'm such a baka.
Your kokoro will never go dokidoki if you don't even know minna of this.
-

It's a cross language pun. Kiru is written with the kanji for cutting but the engrish pronunciation of kill is kiru. Consider this with Akame's ability of one cut kill and it makes sense.

Huh that's interesting, I guess from now on for every series if the title sounds dumb I'll assume it's a pun
