Mob Psycho Universe - Thread Title Season 2
-
Oh my, how many greatest psychics can this century contain?
-
I wonder if all those urban legends are related to a Claw's branch.
-
So far off to a good start. Be specially aware of the dashing old lady, of course. The terror itself!
This new saga with some potential spirits and Yokai appearing brings me to a request I'd be glad if someone answered: Which is the best yokai/onmyodo/spirits/supernatural manga? Ao no Exorcist? Shaman King? Nura? Something else?
Take into account I'm looking for, above anything else, an entertaining manga; I know Mushishi is probably the best written or most ambitious, but it's not the kind I'm looking for right now. I want it to be fun, entertaining, have some good battles and lore, and to be an overall satisfying read.
Thanks in advance!
-
Haven't read it, but I'm sure Makai no Ossan is good, since it it from ONE.

Gegege no Kitaro is the motherfucking BIBLE for all yokai manga.
Nearly all yokai manga today have its influence. As for Jump manga, Hell Teacher Nuube is probably the most well known.
There are tons of good slice-of-life stuff out there too, Mokke, Kamichu (anime), and the recent Uchoten Kazoku (novels, anime) for example. -

It was better than the way it was presented. Definitely worth a read.

I had something more shoneny in mind probably (hence the references I gave), but I'll give these two a chance first.
Edit: Woah, Makai no Ossan is actualy pretty damn good. Fuck it, is One some kind of manga wizard??

New chapter just went live an hour ago.
Awesome. Reigen is awesome. Dimple is awesome. This arc is already pumping me up.This IS a Supernatural episode. Like an early season one.
-
And it's translated. Enjoy!
Pretty damn great chapter. Pretty much everyone shines in here, and I laughed my ass off at a couple scenes here.
Props to the other psychic guy; he gave us some good scenes.

I take it that these are entirely purely coincidental but it's pretty hilarious how kinda similar As Nodt and the kuchisake-onna look similar but ONE pulls off the fear thing waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

The legend of Kuchisake Onna predates Bleach by like 30 years.
The reason why she's so powerful in Mob btw, is because she's not a ghost or a spirit, she is a manifestation of humanity's urban legend. Imagination come to life.
I bet Bigfoot roams the world in America of Mob's world too. -
Eh, you know, except the Kushisake Onna predates Bleach by like 30 years.
No yeah, I meant more along the lines of the manga happening to release fear chapters around the same time with similar looks for the manifestation of fear. I mean, ONE could have chosen a different urban myth to deal with, right? Anyway Mob showed how it is to get past fear way better.
Without Mob needing something like freezing his cells or a negligent older brother to acknowledge that he's strong.
-
I don't know of a urban myth more influential than Kuchisake Onna.
If there's one urban legend to pick, it's this one. The shit was so big, it caused a real-life mass panic FFS dude.
-
Righto, but I wasn't trying to say ONE was ripping off Bleach or anything. I was just more remarking on the coincidence that Bleach's chapters tried to cover a fear aspect and how he blows it out of the water in comparison to Kubo.
-
I understand. My point was, given the theme of urban legend monsters whose strength are tied to how feared they are, Kuchisake Onna being the subject is actually inevitable rather than coincidental.
This is the only urban legend that caused mass hysteria and shut down schools due to public panic.
It's like Japan's very own African "goblin" legends. -
Ah, okay.
In any case, onto the next arc!
-
I bet Bigfoot roams the world in America of Mob's world too.
I just imagined Reigen and Mob taking a trip to US to go on a hunt for Bigfoot.
-
Dash granny scared me lol. Sort of reminded me of Shima's creepy old ladies in Toriko.
-
It's that time of the month when you have a crossdressing chapter of Mob Psycho 100 again.
Wait, what?
-
All that time spent in drag, and only Reigen was remembered for it.
Seems that the bodybuilding club is really helping considering how fast Mob got out of that crowd lol
-
Lol Mob looked pretty good in a skirt.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I started cracking up immediately when I saw the ponytail, and then Mob's pigtails came and I couldn't stop laughing.
-
Mob Psycho is good, but I think I'm gonna just continue with it again in 2015 to let chapters accumulate. The current arc feels filler-like to me. And I hate Reigen… he's like chapter 740 Ussop in steroids everytime. I know some may compare Reigen with King on OPM. But King is awesome, every time he appears it excites me. Reigen, however, ... I don't even want to see his face in a chapter. He just ruins the mood.
-
Reigen's a personal favorite of mine, much like King as you say.
Now that he can actually see dimple, I can't wait to see what types of psychic powers he unlocks.
-
Let's just wait and see where this new arc leads… Anyway I like it because it isn't a stereotypical over the top action manga which hypes up it's every chapter.
-
I'm definitely seeing this leading up to some more build-up to something beyond just the % increase every chapter. It may not be a single threadline to follow like with Ritsu's arc, but there definitely are some very strong hints towards character growth for Mob in this arc.
Who doesn't enjoy Supernatural-esque ghostbusting anyway
-
I wonder why Mob's getting irritated with Reigen.
Maybe it's just the translation idk.
-
Reigen's face…
and it seems like the tomatoes tasted bad?

I found a great post on the Batoto page, about how it's Mob gradually coming into his own as an active force in his own life:
! > If you pay attention to Mob, the past chapters have all been about how he's getting less and less satisfied with being Reigen's assistant (last chapter he said, "I'd never been unsatisfied until now" and this one he's complaining to and back talking Reigen almost constantly) and taking a passive role in his own life. And in this chapter in particular he considered for the first time that he can control living beings, which if you think about it is actually pretty significant in a general sense. Mob has never even thought of controlling others before, but now he has the direct power to do so, and with his exposure to girls/popularity recently, but his inability to interact with them, controlling others to become popular may become a serious temptation.Previous arc had been about how to control his own emotions and powers and being responsible for them, now there seems to be more focus on what Mob actually wants to do with his powers- whether he wants to spend all his time getting minimal pay doing basically charity work, or using his powers to gain popularity as he'd seen was capable in the girls school, or to overcome his own shortcomings as the end of the urban legends chapter had made him aware of.
These are mostly set up chapters, so that we aren't jumping directly from one "explosion" to another. Now that he's conquered some of his old demons, the emotional environment that leads to a new explosion must be established.
-
Certainly Mob's metter is something different this time.
It very well could be "self confidence". At first with the episode of the fake girlfriend I thought it might be empathy, but recently he is becoming more confident with his powers and with himself. Lets see if this would serve for him to grow or to fall deeper into solitude if something big happens next.

HOT DAMN this chapter. This chapter.
We finally get to see what's really bothering Mob, and just how keen Reigen's observation are.
If anything, this chapter proves once and for all how good ONE is at writing.! Mob's fear is unique to himself.
His identity is so detached from regular people, that he doesn't really see a difference between, say, humans, ghosts, and monsters. They are equally non-threatening, and they all can communicate.
But that also means he fears one day he may hurt or kill humans just as nonchalantly as he exorcise spirits.
He just can't really feel any differences between other sentient beings, which could be very dangerous.
! He's not a superhero like Saitama, with clear conscious, values, and prerogative.
He is, after all, just a teenage kid. -
It's funny, but this is one of the first times that I've actually resisted the temptation to spoil myself.
I just like Mob Psycho so much. You've gotten me really excited, blue one!
-
Chapter's out and damn, ONE outdid himself!! All those conflicting feelings… compared to OPM, it's just another level, that was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
ONE just wrote some really good stuff for Mob's characterization. :O
Is this guy's shirt supposed to have the silhouette of a Sket Dance Poppman hat? With a B that stands for Bossun? lol
-
Maybe the best episode so far.
Whatever One is cooking for the next episodes is going to be big.
-
Excellent chapter! Great to see Mob's continual development as well as Reigen demonstrating more on how he's actually a great mentor.
-
Best chapter, yet. Loved every second of it.
-
[Red Herrings Everywhere 100%

Reigen Arataka, genius psychic and RPS champion
And as per the usual, master of psychology.
-
Reigen really makes this manga. Such a fun character.
I haven't been posting but I've really been loving Mob's development over the past few chapters. It's interesting to see what decisions he is going to come to about his powers and what he wants to do in the world. I think it's pretty likely that once it's cornered this current spirit will offer him some convincing words about which side he wants to be on.

Whoa chills. That was some splendid buildup.
-
That peace sign / scissors panel was pretty amazing.
-
I am disappoint. Has the Mob fad faded away? Shame on you, Arlong Park!
You don't deserve it, but here it is. . .
. . .and watch out for the Anti-Possession Flying Knee!
-
The chapter was ok. It was short.

Did you read the whole thing? 61.1 and 61.2? Put together it's not short at all.

it's probably due to the long wait for each chapter now that the scanlations are up to date, so people have kind of forgotten to check it out when it comes out
