One Piece Collectibles v.10 Main Discussion - "Final Product ≠ Promo Pics"

I'll agree to an extent. I still have figures that I love even after having them for a while and even during a big figure purge. Ones that I literally just can't get rid of and still enjoy even after having them for a few years, for example POP Kizaru, GSC Homura etc. For me it really has just come down to picking and collecting favourites.
There is 2 types of collecting, the one you buy because it's popular and the one you buy because you really love it and enjoy it still after many years.
For my part i frequently change place of my figures and room so i enjoy more to place them, touch them, take a look closely at them!
i have fun when i place them in my detolf and and shelves!most of my collection is about Zoro anyway xD
Aside of that i want the styling punk hazard but i'm only interest in Zoro :/
same for the suit version, i want only zoro, 1UP will you sell them separately or is there someone who will get a box?
-
Couldn't agree more. I think we enjoy more spending the money on new figures, unboxing them, admiring them for 15 minutes (experience) than from watching them on the display after months (possession).
The same thing happens to new phone, shoes, car, everything we possess.
Just for thought.I figured that out a little while back, but my boyfriend never wants to throw the cash down on experiences, so I went to Japan myself :-p. My siblings as a whole are more 'experience investors' than 'thing collectors', and I find over time I get frustrated with figures because they become a burden (where to put them, where to store boxes, time it takes to sell them, time it takes to search/buy them). I do think that many fade over time and I've been under the impression that I should keep 1 cabinet full and rotate when I tire of something. I do agree with Raithos, though, that some will never fade. My NEO Nami still makes me smile (even if he has tired of it himself LOL), and SW Sanji is still the Sanji to me. I have a theory about me currently leaning more towards RAHs/Figma, that being if I get bored with the figure I can just play and change the pose, make it new again. Fixed pose you can still admire, but the fun factor is lost to a large degree. :-/
Roro, one of my favorite things is to rearrange my Ace shelves, probably like you with your Zoro! XD So fun mixing them up and seeing what can fit where when I get new ones, though some shelves never change.

Yup i always find fun to clean them and then try to find a place where they will fit, how will i display them etc…And that's what makes me have fun with them and love them!
I do recently preordered some figures etc and i realized that i bought them because they were popular or just on an impulse, i used to think wisely back in the time cause i had few money to spend on it, now i think i'll get back to that and buy the one that makes my heart throb every time i look at them :D
I do have a story with each figure i own though, so sometimes i look at that one figure and remember how i felt when i got it, this is probably the reason i am still enjoying them! -
I love that Nami IK, I'd like to see it for real and compare it with the POP (which I love too even if lacks some accessories ).
These are my last arrivals, I'll open Law after his next great moment in the manga to keep the hype high.
!

how come your come your boxes don't got any official toei stickers on it? its been removed? :-0

Arlong and Jinbe have the Abysse Corp (european? French? Don't know) on the back, instead Law has the Cosmic Group (italian importer) on the bottom.
My Franky is still in custom in Milan… so near but still so far. T_T

Great Haul there IORI!
Got home today to find my Franky has arrived from NY!!! He's awesome!!
Pictures to come later…....................Here he is boxed…........hopefully I'll get a chance to unbox him later..............
Only thing I will say, and this is for anyone who ordered from NY, for some reason they took him out of his Megahouse LIMITED Cardboard box and bubble wrapped him to ship….........! I'm a bit pissed by that, but likely it was to lower their shipping costs since there estimate we well below actually.
I'm going to e-mail them about it, but I wondered if anyone else has found the same thing.

The sticker depends on the region and company distributing the product. Here in the states AAA and FUNimation opt to use their stickers in place of Toei's for branding and promotional purposes. When I take over the states I start stamping Kon stickers! >:D
-
Actually abyss corp is the french retailer for POP etc… so it's placed behind the box not in the front.

I got mine from nippon yassan, when i'll get him i'll see if it's been removed from MH cardboard, but i think it's because of the weight they did, because for chopper with candy limited they let him in the MH box.

Same thing happened to me. My Franky arrived but it doesnt come in the MH cardboard box.
Do share NY's reply when you get it. Interested to see what they will say.

I did not even think of that, I was too excited to have him. Mine came without the box aswell. I'd be interested in the reply aslo.

Don't worry guys, I'll let you know what NY say…...............for the meantime, enjoy! Franky finally enters the fray and strawhats are now complete!!
It's a really tight sqeeze!! I'll need to tidy them up when I have a bit more time, but this is how they look for now!! I'm so pleased with Franky!! So many options, but I thought I'd go for a simple pose in the end!
-
I got my Franky Maximum with Perona SA and Marshall D. Teach 1.5
Franky, it's just insane, this really is a masterpiece.
I manage to put the whole mugiwara sa crew in one floor with two Ikea detolf ! I didn't want to put him alone so i'm pretty satisfied of my move on this one ^^"More photos of Franky :
-
The one with the small metal hand, such intricate detail! Really looks pretty good, but I'm still gawking at that price tag. If it goes down to what Ultimate Madoka is going for now, then maybe that's a cause for consideration.
-
Great picks Kanji and Diloul!
I managed to fit Franky into my room without to much trouble, just wish I had a display case or something to put him in. He looks nice in the box though.

Thanks, to me the best way to display a huge amount of POP is the Ikea Detolf without a doubt. This could be used for any figure but it look so nice with POPs Inside xD The detolf allow you to combine them to display your figure by "diadorama" like i did with shichibukai, mugiwara crew, marines, white beard pirates, gyojin, ect… on one floor ^^"
An other good thing about detolf are the led lights ( optionaly), i use the display case as a nice low light during night and the figures looks so nice this way ^^
This is how you put around 70 POP figures in 4 Detolf :
It's missing Mihawk and Shanks that i sold to buy the new ones and POP Bepo Plush + Garp ver.0 are still unboxed ^^
I'll buy a 5th detolf to display the "old guys" : Whitebeard ver.0, Garp ver.0, Roger and Shiki. I'll post more photos on the dedicated thread later. Sorry if i'm out of topic. -
So after the discussion the other day about selling our collections, I've been thinking a great deal about my time collecting One Piece merchandise.
I sat down to write a little bit about it and a great deal came out, about my feelings when collecting and what made me stop. Lots of it is poorly written (its late so cut me some slack!) and wasn't really written with anyone in mind to read it, I just thought there might be some people here interested to read my story. So if you do, here goes:

Wow guys, great pictures!!! Impressive displays.
EDIT: Just got around to reading your write up, Coopz. Thank you for sharing something so personal with us. I too have quite the addictive personality, and I'm ashamed to admit It's probably my ugliest character flaw; so I like to believe that I understand exactly how you must have felt throughout your ordeal. There is a fine line between collecting and hoarding and If you don't keep your priorities in perspective It's all too easy lose sight of what is truly important in life. I'm glad you found way through. :)
-
Excellent write up, coopz. Appreciate the honesty and humility in sharing personal experience like that with us. I think sooner or later we will have the same experience as yours to an extent. I myself have been thinking too that probably I have wasted a bit too much on this hobby. I don't collect One Piece figures much these days (GL series only and some random WCF+POP), but I have over 60 FBG (Crows X Worst scaled figures) just for the sake of being completionist in that series.
After reading your article, I thought again about how the money and time I used for this hobby could serve for other more meaningful purposes. For the experiences with the ones we love that could last longer in memory and have profound effect for the relationship. I meant the $5000 spent on figures could be used for a nice long holiday overseas with my missus, for example.
Currently I limit myself to one big figure preorder a month outside of the regular GL series. And thinking of selling some of my collections. Most of them won't fit into my display anyway and keeping them in boxes have taken out one room of my small house, one that should be reserved for my daughter in the future.
I'm sure that experience of yours could only serve well for your future. At least you understand greatly the suffering of attachment to possessions in still such a young age while some of us probably won't even learn about it until it becomes too late in our life. :) -
good read, I guess your collecting went out of control, addicted, I guess to much of anything isn't good, we all need to learn how to control it.@coopz182:

You know that is great that you somehow manage to go through this, a hobby should be something fun, not preventing you from living your life and having a proper relationship, i think at some points you did the best choice to go back to zero and now you can go and do things better :)

same for Diloul!

Thank you for sharing this slice of life with us in such an humble and honest way. But i think, there is something wrong in the way you judge your experience. In your story you can replace " collecting figures" by aproximatively anything else and the result will be the same, it could be drugs, alcohol, girls and fiestas, clothes, cars, poker, and the list goes on without an end…
I had similar problem as you when i was young ( i'm 32, it was 10/12 years ago), i was studying probably same age as you and my only concern was clothes and fiestas, loads of money going nowhere, had to take a job to keep paying for living and pay rent, scholar fees, ect, ect... So what you seems to call "good memories" ( girls, fun and "friends") put me in huge problems that followed me for years...
Even if i had fun at the time, my real good memories are now with my wife, kids and friends and family. What i'm trying to say is that, i'm happy for you that you find a way out of this but again, this has not much to do with the figures, when you loose control, you are the only one to blame. Believe me, i learned it the harsh way !
There is one point, i don"t understand in your thinking. You say : you show how much you are a fan by buying One Piece figures and show them to others proudly ? I can't understand that to be honest. The collecting hobby is by nature a selfish hobby, all accross the world, the great collectors keep theirs collection secret and don't show off...
My real friends who know about my collection aren't in anime or manga and they can't care less about my figures ( exept when it's my birthday haha :p). I made many "One Piece friends" at work that i converted to One Piece, they converted others and it's keep going ( when i think about it, it's just the magic of One Piece) but these One Piece friend don't know about my collection and will NEVER come to my house to see it. On the other side, i like sharing with others collectors like here or tsuki, ect...Most of the collectors i know ( irl or not) don't possess a complete collection ( like me buying all pop exept pop movies, theater, bikinis, ect). Most of them buy the figures they like, when they don't like, they don't buy. The others want them all but can't afford it and stick to that and others just don't have the room for it so they don't buy what they can"t store. I freaking love Berserk ( more than One Piece), Ghost in the Shell and Baastard and it would never cross my mind tu put a single euro in an art of war even if if can afford it, i can't see how this would show i'm a real fan ^^"
I don't like figures in general ( i hate 99% of japaneese figures, specially everything that is kawai or nudity like K-on and hentai/sexy figures) but i'm completely fan of the POP line and i stick it with a very few exeptions ( Oars, Nightmare Luffy, Sunny,...). I can afford it and that's the real point... When something that you like take too much place in your life and in your bank account, this lead nowhere... I'm a grown up and if someday, we loose our jobs and need money, i'll sell all my collection and i'll feel like shit for a very long time believe me ! Hopefully, i work in a place that don"t know the actual crysis ^^" I read somewhere that 40% of the people folowing One Piece are over 30 years old and 10% over 50 in japan !!! So the portrait of pirates always appeared to me as a grown up product and not a teenager hobby.
In two years, we start the construction of the house we wish so hard and it will posses a room full of my collection with a table pool, flippers, video projector, a bar and my friends and family to enjoy the room ^^" That's my obsession and controlled it will lead to no drama !
I'm not trying yo judge you, i went true the same problems but you can't blame the collecting hobby. The way you presented is like collecting hobby is just a trap that was shiny and lead you to theses problems, it's just not fair, plastic items or not :)
Whatever happen for you now, i wish you the best, really. -

Hey friend same for me but i didnt lose as much as you just some personal space. I have no regrets about my POP collection. My target was only POPs. But then i lost control and ordered more than i could manage (even non-one piece figures). So right now my room is full of figures and it has to stop. Otherwise it will just go on. Enjoyment turning to suffering which is not enjoyable anymore. Although the urge is there i manage to stop before its really really too late.

I just don't get excited for these figures. :/
Today I've opened Jinbe, he's really nice but I expected him to be heavier, a bit disappointed. At the moment it's right in front of me since I have no more space and I don't know ehere to put him. XD -

Wow Coopz!! Just read your write up. Thanks for sharing!! I can relate to your story 100%. Especially about collecting CD's and DVD's to place on a shlef and not evening listening/watching them. I've still got the entire DBZ DragonBox, which I haven't even watched yet. I was also at Uni when I first started collecting, luckliy I was able to find good work during the holidays, otherwise I probably would have been in a similar situation back then.
My collecting got really bad last year when I spent £2,500 on POP's. This put me well into debt. Even now, I'm trying to put some money aside, but I've somehow manged to justify my spending whenever I see figures like POP Law, Sadie & Franky increase in price dramatically. As much as everyone around me doesn't understand, I still feel glad that I pre-ordered them. Problem is, the interest I'm then paying on CC and OD completely eradicates the saving and I might as well have just waited until I actually had the money to spend…........
I've got 4 more POP's lined up this year, Shank, Mihawk, Kalifa & Kuzan............really I should just cancel them all............but something just won't let me do it...........Shanks looks set to be popular and I'm worried I might miss the boat if I don't follow through................Mihawk & Kalifa may get the boot if things don't improve financially by end of October, NY still have over 600 Kalifa's available for order, so really don't think she's going to be a sell-out. Mihawk was ordered at HLJ, who almost always have stock on release, so not worried about cancelling........
Kuzan is the only other figure I really want.............but this again could just be hype since he's new, compared to the others that we saw 6-9 months ago.
I think once we've had Chara Hobby and I recieve Shanks I'm going to take a much deserved break from this hobby until November. I feel like I've wished my entire summer away waiting for Franky and haven't been engeging in the here an now..........having Franky on my shelf has finally given me freedom!! Probably akin to the irriatation you used to experience from not have a complete set!

Guys i just received my Franky from NY, and unfortunetaly it comes with a broken leg. I can put some glue for fix it, but it will lose all the value. I wrote them, what is your advice?

Man!! That's terrible dude!! Problem lies with either Megahouse, NY or postal service and in most cases the latter…......see what NY say, but if you recieved the item via EMS I beleive it comes with insurance so you may be able to make a claim...........if NY/Japan Post/local post office refuse to help, then you can try going direct to MH......
That's all I can suggest I'm afraid!! Really sad to hear!!

And mine has arrived too!!! ____
I wouldn't do it but tomorrow I'll open it to see if it's damaged, Akatina's story made me really scared about it. Already once I found a figure broken (Sogeking's nose) but the seller didn't want to refund me (was a private and was a really as*hole) and thinking about it I should open immediately my figures instead keeping them in box for years (I have Luffy SA closed from march 2012 =_=).

If you wrote to them without photos and you will contact again for sending pics, i advice you change your photos… Take pics where the figure is on a clear place ( a white t-shirt or white paper sheet or something like that).

Same feeling about me, i've many toys unopened because i've not space to expose and time to enjoy them. I had troubles with Sogeking too, with kabuto, broken. I put some glue and it was fixed. And with the fork of Luffy mild too.

Unfortunately i already sent pictures to them, the trouble is that the torso weights too much and another one is the base: when i fix the POP on the base i have to move the legs and i risk to re-broke it.

if they can't help, you should just glue it properly, it shouldn't be something that makes it drop the value as it's not broken.
I got my shirahoshi POP tail a bit broken and it's the chinese warehouse fault for packing the transparent plastic that was broken with Shira viva MH QC -
I hope NY will fix it, i want to cancel all my orders with them. I didn't want to open it today but it comes with the head out of the body (but not broken this) and then i saw the broken leg, if i hadn't opened i never noticed that:

http://i.imgbox.com/adwuVzVL.jpgWow; that's terrible. Judging by the condition of the box I don't think it's NY or the posts fault, I'm almost certain that is a manufacturer defect. If I were you I'd contact NY anyway to see if they will do an exchange; if that doesn't work you should take advantage of the fact that EMS parcels are insured so that you can at least salvage your money.

http://i.imgbox.com/adwuVzVL.jpgAlthough that probably feels terrible considering how much money you payed for this figure, I wouldn't really call that "broken" - it just unglued and fell out of the peg. I'm pretty sure proper superglue will fix it without any trace of it being separated and will hold it together forever, so you shouldn't be afraid of "breaking" it again.
You should try to get some insurance money from either seller site or the post, but I wouldn't go for demanding a figure exchange, too much trouble, totally not worth it with this problem.

So if you do, here goes:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/15yQgLIEOLCQJkchzl5rF9uqyn5HErLvJt3BjkxJsHf4/pub
I've also gave it a read. Of course whatever you decided to do that makes you feel happy is good. Addictions can be dangerous and you should get rid of them if they don't make you happy anymore.
But personally I can't really relate to it.
I've been a fan of One Piece for almost 10 years now and I started watching it back in school days. I only started collecting on my 2nd to 3rd years in university, pretty much like you did, but for me being able to buy anything and to order it from abroad was a miracle. It still is. I spent years seeing figures of my favorite games and shows online and I never thought about not being able to afford them, because if you really want something you will always find a way to get any kind of job to help raise money, but I thought that I had no chance ever to order them since I was too young, I did not have a card, many online shops did not import to Russia, our postal services were far from perfect, people would always say their parcels got lost, etc. I would spend my evenings seeing first pictures of early POP figures at shelves of people far away and thought to myself, wow, what an AMAZING feeling it must be to have a chance to buy something like that, to have an access to a shop, to have a way to get that. I still feel how magical and miraculous it felt to get my first POPs. To think that know I owe the biggest chunk of that ever-growing collection. To think that I remember the release dates, remember the new announcements, pre-order battles, all the happy and sad stories about delivery… Man. It's like I've fulfilled one of my smaller childhood dreams. I'm LIVING the dream now. Holy shit.I guess I'm just a person who has a long-run hobbies.
I see pieces of Art when I look at my collection. I know that every figure was sculpted by an artist. The dynamic, the representation of characters that come from novels and TV-series created by other artistic people. The whole world of endless imagination captured in form of tiny plastic sculptures. Beautiful.
And please never compare collectible figures to ugly toys for kids XD
I also don't really like showing my figures to ANYBODY.
People who are One Piece fans usually show under-estimation in my eyes. They just look at them and go "oh cool". I don't feel proud of it and I don't want people to envy me, but if I did not have this and saw a collection owned by someone else in person?!! I'd be blown away, I'd run around the room screaming how AMAZING and FANTASTIC it was. A fucking miracle right there.
And people who don't know One Piece or any other Japanese media, especially older people - they will just probably think you're weird and won't understand it. So what's the point?
And oh, ESPECIALLY not kids XD No kids allowed in my room ever, not without somebody holding them away. I don't even feel that scarred about greasing or destroying my figures, I mean come on, I have several POPs with broken off limbs, I undressed all the girls who are undressable, even if not quite so, but when somebody else is touching the figure? ESPECIALLY a kid? Oh hell no, I start cringing like no tomorrow.I also don't think I ever had an idea about stopping in mind? I always wanted ALL OF IT. The bigger collection is the better. I feel super impressed when I see rooms covered in glass cabinets. I clearly have to limit myself - I don't have infinite space and of course there's only so much money I can spend on this, I have a personal rule - I can spend a LOT of money on figures, but I never spend more money than I have, I will never ask for credit or lend money from a friend or family member.

A true horror indeed hahahaha. I will never let a baby into the room with figures :P Not until they are at least school age.
I mean, POP boxes say "15+", don't they?–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Gosh, it's been awhile since I posted any pictures, huh?
Have a Hippo Captain <3I thought I'd feel bitter about this one (note: not regret spending money or wanting to get rid of it, but feel bitter, as in, it's Blackbeard, I have to get every piece of his merch, but some things are just so ugly I regret they were made to begin with and wish to flush them down the toilet) since he was just so expensive, but hell! I absolutely love it. It's so big and heavy and well-detailed. I also love the design they picked for him, totally fits his image hahahha.

I always have to be careful with my nephew at home,he is fascinate with my collection,he once touched masamune nendoroid back in time hopefully he was alright, not so long time ago i saw him taking luffy glc and start blabbering nonsense lol i asked him to put it back which is what he did,i'm still keeping an eye on him,i'm afraid he will eat a piece or hurt himself or broke one of them so no kids alone in my room but he can look at them!

Yeah, kids and chocking hazard is a whole other story, it can be pretty dangerous.
Age fifteen and up! :P

[qimg]http://i.imgbox.com/adwuVzVL.jpg[/qimg]Yes!! I totally agree, EMS comes w insurance, you should be able to get your money back and/or they should replace the figure. Think of it with this silver lining: you may have just gotten a free POP Franky. If they let you keep that one AND send you a new one, hell, I would even buy the broken one off you no worries and you'd score a profit!
So, though immensely disappointing, I'm sure things will go your way with this situation. Hang tight!!!
About kids & collections: most of my stuff is behind glass, so my niece and nephew won't open it. But, they LOVE looking at all my ace stuff, figuring out which has the most fire, which is the tallest, which doesn't have a hat, etc. My niece looks at them all so very intently, I must say it's almost gratifying. However, they don't live with me… If I had a baby... Those figures would be on HIGH shelves!

http://i.imgbox.com/adwuVzVL.jpgMine came the same way with the same leg loose (box was even slightly dented). I just ended up gluing the leg (it's probably still loose since I didn't have super glue and just used Elmer's glue, ha!) But he's connected to the base and seems stable.

Damn that sucks guys, sorry to hear your $300 items are breaking… glad I didn't take him though
