Glad to have a little ToG back in my life, even if only briefly. Do we have any clues about this #1 E-Ranker that everyone's talking about so much these days? Or is (s)he a legitimately new introduction?
Tower of god
-
-
Seem to be a new character. I haven't heard his name before.
-
Here is a link to the Naver site where the korean raw is located. Since SIU gets evaluated based on views to each original chapter posting, clicking this and then this weeks chapter's link would be the best way to support him.
http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=183559&no=113&weekday=mon
Anyways, I really enjoyed this week's chapter even though there is not a whole lot to say about it. With the way the moderators and that high ranker are talking, Emily's completion may be something that shakes the whole tower, so this is certainly looking like this may be the climax of season 2. I wish SIU would have just gotten the surgery during his break and prolonged it. Continuing to work a part of your body that needs surgery is never a good idea in the long run. -
Honestly, SIU can just end the second season ASAP, since it's almost the length of S1 (80 vs 66 right now). He can set up the Workshop arc and leave the tournament part vague for next season, and maybe go on hiatus with a Baam x friends chance meetup. Wouldn't that be a great place to cut off?
-
Yea, I agree with you that he can't just end the second season ASAP. I actually think this season may be a ten or so chapters longer considering the average length of games like "Hide-and-seek", "The untrustworthy room" and " one shot one opportunity" if we have a whole tournament of those, we are in for a long ride. Not that there is an issue with that at all considering how creative and enjoyable they have been. However, I think it would be awkward if he didn't complete the arc considering how he ended the last season. Not that I am opposed to this season ending during the workshop tournament, I just think it needs to feel concluding, but at the same time raise a ton of questions.
Anyways, theres no point discussing that since it will depend almost entirely on what direction he takes this which is hard to tell at this point.
Also, I just realized that everyone, including myself refers to SIU as "He". Has SIU ever been revealed to be male? I wouldn't surprised with SIU's track record if "he" was a she.
-
mangacow's version. They have a new translaor who has done the last few chapters, and he seems to translate a lot better, the quality has improved a lot.
http://mngacow.com/tower-of-god/s02-66/
Also, SIU is a male, there is a pic of him floating around, forgot where I saw it though.
Edit: Here it is.
-
Interesting, I always thought he refused to reveal anything about himself. I agree, mangacow hasnt been too much worse than the company lately. Really, the only things that bother me are things that the company already decided to translate one way that manga cow is translating differently. i.e. "E-rank" vs "E-grade"
I am really glad Rak is back into the thick of things. Also, I find Ship and Anak's relationship endlessly entertaining. Probably the two highest points of the chapter for me since I am not as big of an Androssi fan as most, I have always much preferred Anak.
-
Well the thing is we don't know what he means by episode. He could mean the "The Workshop Battle" arc and finish up Season 2 or it could just be the "archimedes" part of it. Which should be like 2-3 more chapters until it reaches the actual tournament area. He'll take his long surgery break and come back after the hiatus to start the actual tournament.
-
Honestly, for the sake of the series, I hope he means the archimedes part of it. Surgery isn't something you should put off. People on Batato forums seem to think episode means archimedes as well. I can imagine it being four to five chapters total if he uses the party to introduce a bunch of characters and set up all the major rivalries of the arc.
-
A hiatus right after Rak coming back is just cruel and unusual, but still, the wrist is that mans life, super important it stays healthy.
-
New chapter is out. It's a beach fanservice chapter with chibi Rak introducing himself to Wangan at the end.
SUI blog talks about how the two helmet guys are a parody of Daft Pumk. This is first time drawing bikinis so he sucks at it. Bad news is his wrist is getting worse so he's going to have to get surgery. After this arc, he going to take a long break.
I fell out of my chair when I saw him put Daft Punk in the manha, I love this guy even more now.
-
Does anyone has any guesses how long such an operation and the recovery after will last? Surely some months. Half a year? A whole year?
But at least we know, that SIU will be just as frustrated about this hiatus as we, and that he will return as fast as possible (which may not be such a great thing, when he is not fully healed yet).
-
Hard to know since SIU never revealed what the problem with his wrist was, or what kind of surgery he would need. If it were something like carpal tunnel, he may be out for 6 weeks up to 3 months+ depending.
-
have been following this for a since the begging and I love it. While the actual ranking/games they do can be a bit hard to follow, I love the overall story as a whole.

Agreed. all the characters are very interesting and have multiple layers. Even Rachel probably has so much more to her than most would like to admit considering that she is the author's favorite character so he must have much more planned with her. On top of that, SIU did a great job building a world that is so complex, yet still possible to understand, especially when you bring up the world outside the tower.
I just wish more people would give it a chance, there's not many comics/webtoons/manwha that can make wearing a purple jumpsuit look so awesome.
-

So, only about 1-3 months? That is something most fans can probably live with.
While the actual ranking/games they do can be a bit hard to follow, I love the overall story as a whole.
What do you mean with ranking? How they compare to each other? I dont know, if you know, but it is highly recommended to read the authors notes on his blog, where he gives lots of background infos and describes events/places/important persons more in depth.

That's the thing though. It's a storytelling/worldbuilding weakness that his system is so complex that he can't put it all in the actual work. I agree that the overall story is quite good though. It's been a great ride so far. SIU should really just stop now if he is going to need surgery though.
-
SIU just commented that he has been using Chibi Rak for Rak current appearance since it's easier to draw.

He honestly made it way too big. Doing simple math, there's over 10,000,000,000,000 people in the Tower (Yes, 10 Trillion, not 10 Billion) alone, and then there's supposedly an entire world outside the tower that's hundreds of times as big. That's not even remotely realistic. If he had made the tower a galaxy, even, it'd be more feasible.

Not weakness, it's simply another way to tell a story. He doesn't have to follow the standars to be good. Personally, I like the comic combined with the notes.

Good news! GoDai, translator of TheCompany, got acces to SIU's blog and wrote a full translation of Barlord Yama's profile: :onoz
–-------- Post added at 12:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:31 AM ----------
About the term 'Imort' on this profile, GoDai wrote in a later post:
I wasn't sure how it should be spelled. Like what you said there, I did think it sounded similar to the origins of the English word "Immortal" but in Korean, it was written "이모르트" and not "임모르트," which implies one "m" sound ("Immortal" is often read "임모탈" in Korean pronunciation, implying two "m" sounds).
Not sure overall. Whenever SIU introduces a term, I usually try searching up guesses of how the word may be written in English a thousand different times… "Reflejo" surprisingly took a long time to derive from "리플레조" because searches kept giving me "Ripley" for the "리플레" part. Thank goodness we're not calling him Ripleyjo.
"Imorte" will probably end up being "Immorte" but seeing how SIU wrote "Baylord Yama" in English for us, he'll probably write Imorte's name in English when he writes up his profile. When that happens, I'll change the spelling accordingly. It could also be a variation of the name of a soccer player. Happens often, eh?
Gizmos from Batoto found this possibility: Karsten Imort last played in Wilhelmshaven team, a german player (http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/karsten-imort/transfers/spieler_8373_564068.html)
–-------- Post added at 12:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:41 AM ----------
The whole profiel is very interesting, but this GoDai's note was particularly intriguing and highly possible, to me:
I must say this "Blood Fusion" sounds an awful lot like how Zahard's Princesses obtain their powers.
-
Oh SIU, you soccer/fishing fan.
As for blood fusion being banned… it all fits :O
-
So, the Archimedes part ended and the workshop battle will start for real next week(a little bit too early maybe, I wouldnt have minded another chapter of just lying on the pool and having fun with some character interaction), but SIU will still not go into hiatus.
I just hope, that his wrist will not get worse because of that or that he will be forced to pause at some time in the middle of a battle. -
I don't really like Hatsu's new style. He's turned out to be more trendy teenager, while I think he was had his own origin unique style with his traditional style which show he is a swordsman. But well, maybe that's just to get more fangirls? lol
About the story I think season 2 is kinda darker than season 1, haha maybe I just want to see the original team season 1 reunion.
-

that's the only down side to this whole story is the fact that the author cannot explain it well enough with in the actual story and instead has to explain it on a separate blog post. If done right it could have been explained a lot easier.
-

You're very wrong, at least in presuming that mixed media implies poor storytelling technique. A lot of modern stories are told in multiple formats, and I don't think that a weblog of additional information is by any means second-class storytelling. It would be great if they came from a specific character's point of view, but they're all done at LEAST from a world-internal POV. So if someone's more powerful than high ranker #5 but nobody knows about them, the blog reflects only the common knowledge. They're flawed bits of insight into the world, and are to my mind just another part of the storytelling.
-

SIU recuringly states that the blog bits are technically spoilers, he's just giving us basic info that may not entirely come into play in the story or he will explain in the story when it becomes more relevant. It's like how Oda doesn't outright explain all the little tidbits about all the characters in his story because he has limited space and doesn't want to interrupt the flow of the story so he uses SBS and Databooks to tell us all that stuff.
-
Well said, you two. That's a great way to conclude SIU's a great storyteller with parallels to Oda. (maybe not THAT far yet… Oda's storytelling is so good it's criminal)
-

Please don't compare it with Oda's SBS. Two very different things. Very rarely does Oda reveal important things on the SBS. Usually its filled with jokes and stuff. He never uses the SBS and the databooks to give important info. Usually names of fodder character, their birthdays and stuff, that is largely not that important to the main story. SBS is usually used as a way to connect to his readers.
SIU's blog contains a lot of info that should be introduced in the actual story itself. He uses the blog as a way of giving out more info about the story. Very different from the SBS.
On the question of whether its good storytelling or not, I think it depends on the individual and is very subjective. In my opinion, its flawed. If someone doesn't think its bad, good for that person.
I think its okay storytelling. I wouldn't care about the small irrelevant stuff, but SIU is giving important info about characters in the blog. The info of Zahard and the 10 families, slayer candidates, etc has all been introduced through the blog, which I find poor. So yes, I think it would be better if this info was in the actual story itself. If the characters are not going to come into play, then there is no need to give all this info in the first place. There are many characters in the TOGverse, and giving irrelevant info on characters that are not going to appear in the story is very pointless. Instead, if you are going to use a blog, how about using it to flesh out the existing characters or some minor side characters more.
I guess its understandable though. The bigger the world is, the more difficult it becomes to fit everything in the story. So meh, just wished he did not introduce stuff like the top 15 high rankers and stuff in the blog.

Which modern stories are that ?? I haven't seen any stories where so much info is given in a blog/alternate medium. I would not call it second class storytelling. The storytelling is okay, but could be a lot better.
Your example of the high ranker makes no sense. This can be just told in the actual story itself instead of the blog. If there is a stronger character and the people do not know its irrelavent, as he would appear in the story later on, or not at all. These insights can and should be given in the story itself, that is known as world building.

(( First off this is all my opinion and nothing more. ))
Mixed media implies weaker story telling. So, just because I said that was the only down side, doesn't mean I think it's second class, or that it's poor technique. I am just used to stories that flesh out or fully unfold as I read along. Like a book or a generic manga/comic book. So, do tell, what modern stories do that aside from these net comics/manwha? And are helpful?@Ace:

My thoughts exactly.

This is sort of related to a problem I have with Baam's character. (yes, I know there is supposed to be a reason why his like that, but I still find it boring) Generally when a main character is introduced into a completly new world like this, the curisoity of the main character gives other characters within the story a reason to explain things, which helps build the world, but we learned very little about the tower within the story because Baam is only interested in Rachel. He didn't even to ask what kind of place he was in, despite the fact that he lived his entire life inside of a cave, all he wanted to know is where Rachel was.
And since season 2, he has been some silent depressive guy, that shouts about how he'll protect his friends, or something like that every once in a while. We don't even get to here him talk about the tower, and general politics within the tower that he may have learned during the past 6 years of his training.
-
There is definitely not enough love around here for ToG.
Bumping for the Mad Dog of Yama.
And apart from him, this Battle Gamble is lamer then anticipated. Its just the first stage of the Workshop Battle, but still… Hope, we will soon see some great and imaginative contests like in Part 1. -
Eh yeah I'm not really enjoying these chapters all that much. I was hoping for more intrigue with the gambling aspect (like match fixing and whatnot) but it's completely straightforward and boring so far.
-
I think it's good; SIU is making good exposition for the time being while he sets up greater events for the later parts of the arc. He also has carpel tunnel or tendinitis or something in his wrists so it's amazing he's even drawing at this time - he's going to have a surgery once this arc ends. Overall, this arc feels the same way the current OP arc does - a bunch of shit going on, nothing really exciting, waiting for it all to come together, etc.
-
This Mad Dog guy seems a little underwhelming after seeing Mazino in action at the end of the last Part. Still, I'm interested to see the fight between him and Viole.
-
Can I have a link to his blog please? Is it in english?
-
THe blog is not in English and you need to have a friend status in the system to actually read the interesting things. Go to towerofgod.wikia.com there are all kinds of blogposts translated by the translator for the company.
On another note:
WHat I really don't like about the second part is how Baam has to rely on the red weapon he got from FUG. I now really want him to beat Yama with his own powers. perhaps even dominating him with the mazino technique.
And Yama really has the same eyes as mazino maybe they are from the same race? -
So, the raw from 72 is out, and MangaCow have it translated and typeset… but their website's down as of an hour ago. Sort of the worst thing ever. I'm going to put something heavy on my F5 key and get some lunch ;_;
-

Read it on Mangabird.
! Badass chapter, but like Androssi said, its just small fry. Just hope, that the betting part will be over next chapter.
I now really want him to beat Yama with his own powers. perhaps even dominating him with the mazino technique.
And Yama really has the same eyes as mazino maybe they are from the same race? Its Yamas mad dog. Yama himself is a slayer.
But its really time, that Baam faces a serious opponent again and hopefully loses too. Its just too boring, when the protagonist is so much more powerfull then anyone else around him. And even if he defeats Varagarv, then maybe Androssi or Reflejo could get the better of him.
-
It's definitely not boring if the maincharacter is much stronger than the others at least if it is executed well. And Baam has already shown that he dislikes fighting and the tower is a very strategy focused battleground so I don't think Baam being much stronger can destroy the game mechanics.
On the other hand SIU has shown in his blogposts that he is not above creating hax characters with storybreaking powers so if I whish too much for Baams power it could become boring.
-
On another note:

And Yama really has the same eyes as mazino maybe they are from the same race?Baam hasn't relied on the red thing at all. He's only really used it once after being hit by Wangnan's shinsoo ball. I don't recall him using it again after that.
I find it worse for Baam to use Urek's overpowered skills rather than his own. SIU also wrote in his blog that Baam won't ever use it because he's embarrassed by the name of Urek's skills.
Urek and Yama's dog can't be related at all; Urek is from outside the tower whereas Yama's dog (like 99.999999% of the people in the tower) was born in it. Also, Rak has the same kind of eyes as both of them and he's an alligator.
-
He uses it when he is in a pinch as when he was hurt by Wangnan and when he was cornered by Veredy. That is relying on it for me as he uses it to fight when he himself can't anymore. On the other hand his technique copying is a part of him and is his own skill.
And we don't know whether Yama's dog is a tower resident or if he is a creation or something else. Perhaps he was engineered after Mazino. At least this is only second time we saw eyes like this (at least I think it is)
-

But he did use the red thing to fight when he couldn't fight anymore. Lee Ship sealed his shinsoo and his teammate was poisoned. I don't understand why you're opposed to him using the red thing compared to his copying skill techniques; both are overpowered and he did nothing to gain them on his own - one was given to him, the other he steals from others. Baam, like all irregulars, is stupidly overpowered so I don't understand what it is you're really arguing about.
Also,
Urek's Eyes
!
Varagarv's Eyes
!
They're eyes look very different. Urek's looks like Sauron's eye in LOTR. Varagarv's eyes have extra lines and looks like some sharingan shit.
Varagarv is a resident of the tower. He was born in the fighting pitts and trained to be a gladiator. If he wasn't born in the tower, the dog would be an irregular. If he was an irregular, FUG wouldn't have ever needed Baam since Varagarv would be free of the tower's contracts and could freely kill Zahard. Anything that is formed inside the tower, weather born or made, is bound to Zahard's law. Urek, Enryu, Baam and Phantiminum weren't born inside of the tower and are therefore able to kill Zahard if they wished to. I highly doubt he has any relation to Urek, considering that means FUG would have to steal his genes or some shit - stealing from the strongest active ranker in the tower doesn't seem to be remotely possible given no one outside of the 10 family heads (who are also irregulars) can even touch Urek. Also, the only one able to create life with shinsoo so far is Enryu.
-
I thought I had seen a more similar picture of the eyes but there I am and didn't see the differences. And I didn't argue against him being a regular just that he could also be an artifical human or weapon or robot.
And I am not arguing that both abilities are overpowered I just think that one is an ability that Baam has which makes him special the other is a tool that others gave him that is stupidly powerful.
In every manga the main character has something that sets them apart but I don't think I have ever read a manga that had the maincharacter fight with the power someone else gave them even as a last resort.
I just don't like that. -
lol, so you don't like Baam to use something someone else gave him like the red lobster "thorn". But using his copy skill to copy other people skills is okay. It's basically the same thing. He's using skills that aren't his own. His signature freezing skill is something he got from Quant in Season 1.
Urek and Mad Dog aren't related. Mad Dog has something to do with Yama (current FUG slayer) who trained him by having him fight in the pits. Unless Mad Dog wants to join Wing Tree which is why he left FUG, he most likely doesn't have anything to do with Urek.
As for the recent chapter, there was a discussion on what Anak actually said when Baam shot her when she was fighting Ran over at Batato. She said something like "You're dead". Some sites then translated it as "I'm going to kill you". Some Korean speakers on Batato arguing that she meant "You're dead?" as in she recognized Baam. With how Anak was speaking at the end of the current chapter looks like the latter people were right.
-
What about Naruto? He was given the nine tails. shivers
Sasuke as well, Itachi gave him his eyes. shivers -
As for the eye debate; Yuri, Rak, and Hwa Ryun have red eyes. There's probably more but I don't feel like going through every chapter. Similar eye color doesn't mean they're related. Relation in this series is usually told through hair color where the witch race (Hwa Ryun) has red hair or the Koons who have blue hair. Then you have the surnames like Ha/Koon/Yeon/Zahard which means you're part of one of the 10 Great Families.
-
I really thought they had the exact same eyes that's why I put my opinion here that they may be realated in some way. Should have checked that before posting.
And I don't really see why a skill copying tecnique is the same as a weapon someone gets from an organization. One is an ability Baam has and the other one is a weapon he got. For me those are two different things.
And Naruto is a good example. It is tha same principle that fights get worse for me as the use of the Kyuubi increases and I can say the same for ToG. At the moment it isn't very bad but if we see Baam beat his opponents often with this red thing it could become very boring. -
Baam isn't really copying…he's a genius at reading shinsoo flows. He's just learning the techniques a lot faster than people usually do. Being talented at shinsoo is his luck, like being born with a strong body or having fast reflexes.
-

If you think about the scope of the people in the tower, and who Baam will be facing, those two occasions mean nothing. Baam is an irregular who is going to be facing rankers, high rankers, Zahard, FUG, etc. at some point. Whether the red weapon/lobster shit is OP will be discussed then - right now he's an OP character facing tower fodder.
