Tommyrod was a chef, Grinpatch is a chef (during BB Corn arc he complains about how hard is for them chefs to satisfy Midora's apetite). Starjun actually is a chef too:

Maybe spice prince and Yuu are connected in some way. They look alike and both use spices.
Maybe Toriko will awaken something through his Gourmet cells appetite just like Sani. But for that he will first need an energy source. And that is the point where Meteor Garlic may come into play. Back then he didn't eat it (and I think he said that he will eat it with poison potato after Komatsu detoxifies it, though it may be just my mind playing tricks). It may be in the same jacket he is wearing now.
And Joa was looking for a book from Gourmet Pyramid that contained recipes on how to cook humans, written by Nitros. Maybe he is connected to them, considering how Nitros have information on 'God' and how he possesses Acacia's journal. And I agree with posts above that Joa, most likely, cooked humans on that festival. And ate Teppei (maybe even Zaus) and then used Reviving knife to get him back.
I re-read Toriko from the start and that chapter when Starjyn is met in the bar got my attention. He says that after mellow cry of god is heard, they will put the full course on the line. And coupling together other facts - that Center may revive dead, that in the Gourmet World there are some ingredients that need reviving knife to be prepared and that Earth in particular requires revival. Maybe the whole course needs to be assembled so the 'God' may be obtained even after it shows itself. Maybe only people who can hear voices like Komatsu may prepare, or even come into contact with it, even after it appears. And since food in Toriko possesses such various qualities, maybe something very special may happen to the ones who eat the whole course from Center that revives the dead all up to the Atom that is radioactive. Or there exists something special that may be fed in such order starting from revival. There must be a reason whu Acacia told nothing at all concerning his full course. Though why he hid info on his appetizer is more understandable.

I didn't see if anyone posted this, But any ideas what it says?
!
I'm digging Sani's new look, and Zebra's. But Coco hardly has a change lol. Toriko just reversed…
-
There is just something extraterrestrialy goofy about anime Zebra. While in manga he looks sinister, in all anime art he looks like a nutcase. Must be nonexistent neck and lack of gums. Or maybe something about teethline… With lack of gums on the side. Or is it the lack of hindhead? I can't get it.
p.s. He voluntarily tore his cheek to have a bigger mouth, so why is he not intimidating enough? And these teeth look like a mask. -
They must have censored the gum since it's human flesh.
Kinda.

its probably news for the new toriko movie that coming soon…
-
Zebra in a motorbike suit is the most awesome thing the anime done it.
-
I realy can't see tommy and grinpatch in the kitchen even more the latter who probably would eat the whole kitchen just because the microwave is still heating the food.
-
The sous-chefs of the Bishokukai probably aren't in the kitchen. They probably have their own place or uniquely designed cooking areas where they prepare their food. I always pictured Tommyrod cooking in a dark place with bugs all round. And they obviously aren't preparing anything like tea or crumpets.

It's the Toriko BESHOCK Trading Card Game. It'd be awesome if they ended up using those in the anime.

Ahhh thank you. It is a bit disappointing. I was hoping it'd be their new battle outfits.

Hey guys, my volume 15 of Toriko finally arrived and I noticed there are two pages from chapter 130 that were missing from the scanlations:
!
The two missing pages from chapter 130:
Page 1
! * K: Ah! Look Toriko! A cactus!
! Page 2
! * K: We can get water! Wow! And it´s even got a faucet! Let´s let the camels have a drink too!- T: Hold it, Komatsu. Look around you.
- K: Huh? Look…?
- K: Yikes! What happened here?!
- T: Those are animal bones. That´s a Faucet Cactus. It lures in thirsty animals and poisons them to death. It absorbs the nutrients from their corpses to grow. Id you´d had a drink from it, you´d be a goner too.
- K. Yeeek!!
- Z: Hmpf. You´re too careless, little guy. Get back on your came quick. Before you get blown away.
- K: Huh? Blown away?
- Z: I can hear the sand kilometers away. A sandstorm… …Is coming.
-
I still regret that the first volume of Toriko that I bought (17) had a mistake in the first press and came without the extra pages. Should've bought it later.
This extra page thing seems common in Toriko. Is this the case with other manga as well? I know Gintama has had some parts redone (the end of Kintama and Suzuran arcs), but besides this I never heard of anything.

The new Developments are interesting buuuuut…I can't help but feel the Bishokukai are getting thrown under the bus. They've been the main looming antagonistic force, along with Nitros, since day 1, and neither are coming out of this battle looking that fearsome.
I get Shima wants to hype Neo but...I don't really know these people. And until I do, I'm a bit sad to see the characters I do know/have been waiting to see in action get taken out. I know they have to go eventually, but I never thought the Cooking fest would be such a blow to the Bishokukai. It feels a Little sudden.
Anyone else feel this way?

Yeah, I feel that a little too.
You can argue about guys like tommy, because we have seen pretty much everything he's done, and he had a very dignified death, but how Elg got killed of, was really bullshit. I mean, you just don't do that. You don't show us the only branch chief, who was strong enough for the gourmet world before the Bishokukais capabilities grew, just so he can be used to hype a character who has been introduced like ten chapters before.
Although I don't really have a problem with the fact that NEO is being build up, while I don't know much about their members, they still are all characters of the high strength and significance, so while I may not really be emotionally invested with characters like the jutsu guy and the pot maker, at least the feeling of big powers clashing is being properly conveyed. -

They'll have their time to shine at Gourmet World, don't worry. This Neo thing caught me by surprise too, but well, it's logical the Bishokukai isn't getting so much spotlight or success in their plan when we are just presented to a new big faction. I'll be happy if I see some Grinpatch madness this arc, though
-
I'm sad about fodder Nitros, the same Nitros that were hyped like hell -since the weak one in the pyramid because of the slumber- and kicked one of the cooking fest's champion's ass.
About the Bishokukai members, most of the high ranked members there were the less important ones (in charge of the Human World) so i kinda expected something like them being overpowered but still managing to bring some chefs to their headquarters.
-
Don't know if it was mentioned already, but Yuda is 120 years old according to his info page from the latest volume.

Well, they are succeeding in capturing some chefs, at least that's something
-
Why are people under the assumption Zebra will defeat the Nitros with so much ease? That one he beat to a pulp rised up just seconds after he got knocked down in the ground, and that was one hell of a smack.
I don't know what's the issue with Elg too. He was said to be one of the few Bishokukai who can live in the Gourmet World. Aside of that he served his purpose and even had an interesting background. Furthermore, Brunch should be praised for his feat of defeating an immortal.
-

Yeah, but the lower ranked ones were the ones we've known the longest. Tommy had had a good run, being main antagonist of one of the longest and best arcs, but it seems pointless to have kept around so many bad guys just to use them up in this battle. I know it isn't over yet, but even if the Bishokukai loses no more members, their significance will still be greatly diminished after this - especially since heavy hitters like Tommy and Elg are going Down.
Really, I'm just not that interested in a bishokukai if all that remains are Midora, Penis Face, Bug Eating chef, and…Nancy, I think it was? Those guys are nowhere near as interesting as Tommy, Grinpatch, and a good chunk of the branch chiefs.

My biggest problem with NEO is that I don't really know these guys well enough to be shocked at all the betrayals. My biggest reaction was when Edna Mode guy from chapter 1 was revealed to be a traitor.
-
These Nitros are domesticated or enslaved, so not as powerful as they could be.
And the top ranks of the Bishokukai are more or less intact.

I kind of expect Midora to have already realized that JoeJoe was a spy from Neo.

Yeah, don't know what's the issue with this. Cooking Fest is the Marineford of Toriko, so casualties is something to be expected.
Starjun is obviously surviving this, and we still have got some interesting challengers such as Kuromado, Dores, Alfaro, Limon, etc.
There's gonna be some important changes in the hierarchy of the Bishokukai when this is over. They lost one Sous Chef and one Branch Chief.
As for the traitors, Midora surely knows and so does Ichiryuu. These two are no pushovers you can fool that easy.
-
I see you guys' points, and I know that the Bishokukai is not done for yet. My only issue is that this seems to be a massive Changing of the Guard, and none of the characters standing in the wings to fill the Antagonist slots have endeared themselves in any way yet.
-
Why not waiting patiently till this is over and then we do the count, ok?
-
I agree with The Daz, I feel exactly that way.
And I dont want any more of them to get killed. Defeated maybe, but not killed. After Livebearer´s almost fatal attack and Tommy´s death, I wouldn´t be able to stand, say, to lose Grinpatch or Ced.
-
Someone from the Branch Chefs should become Sous Chef in place of Tommyrod. But who that might be, I wonder.
-
It'd be awesome if they ended up using those in the anime.
Agreed, toriko especially, since i still see people from time to time who dont know the series drawing comparisons between his and goku's colors/clothing. So it would be nice if he could differentiate himself from that.
-
@Nekketsu: How about Yuu

STOP VOICING WHAT EVERYONE IS TRYING TO HIDE DEEP IN THEIR HEARTS !
Seriously, i completely agree that all is left to us from the Bishokukai are some guys that had 1-2 pages at most in exchange of the manga's best antagonists (Yea i don't believe Grinpatch will make it alive), and the Bishokukai that we knew for more than half of the series is kinda underwhelming to say the least, having the antagonists power up in a pace that's relatively close the Toriko and co. (Tommy's new arm/Starjuun at the coffee) was what kept me hoping for a big showdown between the two factions in later parts of the story. But then tommy died, Grinpatch might die too, and Elg that was one of the most powerful Human world members just died.
But then again having them not die and becoming the 4-6 main protagonists' rivals feel kinda cliché to be honest (they didn't die but will rise in power and blablabla), there's Starjuun for that.
So yes we don't know a thing and don't care about NEO and the rest of the Bishokukai but this arc seems like a fresh start where old characters are discarded for new ones that will get their developpement for the chapters to come. Toriko Z : GW with new enemies and monsters…etc
Also Zebra taking on 3 Nitros will always be disappointing in my book whatever the circumstances, unless Bei raised them from the day they came to life.
-
It all depends of one factor: the role these characters Shima has in the store for them to play.

Aww come on, he´s my precious baby all right, but he´s on team failboat just like Barry and Bogey. (well, Bogey not so much)
Tho maybe they will surprise us this time. -

"Fear the unknown". And considering Zebra's temperament, this isn't surprising at all.
-
I don't know when but, here, i remember having a conversation about how these Nitros look savages and not the intelligent beings that built the Gourmey Pyramid.
Now that it is revealed that 'this world' is like a drop in the ocean it is possible that when story moves on to other worlds we will get to see real Nitros with their own civilization and bosses.
Maybe the reason why Ichiryuu and Midora lets NEO do as they wish is they want to move on to those worlds but can't? We don't know if those 3 hold such powers. If they do Acacia's full course should be something extra-ordinary universe-level ingredients to make them clash and make war over it. But story would be more rich if they were kind of trapped in the world as they are and can't move on to the others. I guess that is the role Joa will play here. His dark ways may grant him abilities to teleport other planets.
If the story goes this way it is very understandable getting rid of characters that won't make it to next-level. And i see Elg and Tommyrod as such people… And have mixed feelings about Grinpatch. I don't know if he is a mindless person who just wants to suck. :)
-

I say fear the badass, and i hate you for not agreeing with me about how badass Nitros are and everything else sucks donkey balls compared to them.

The one thing I don't hope for is the complete annihilation of the Bishokukai during this Cooking Fest, just to be replaced with Neo from then on.

Please, Accacia wet his pants after seeing a Nitro.
Acacia was surprised because he saw a Nitro (a wild one, not a tamed one) eating a Poison Boar without it getting poisonous. And that was the first time Acacia saw one of them. He was surprised, shocked but he didn't wet his pants, come on.
About NEO, I like their rise and I like the way they are coming out too.
Zaus, Shigematsu, Kousairou, Kuribou, Uumen Umeda, now Appolo (the last interesting) and, of course, Joa. And maybe Mohyan Shaishai, who knows?
Joa is a guy I'm crazily interested in. I like so much the mysteries around him. And the fact that he could have some sort of cannibal instinct. And he seems to be a better chef than Setsuno. -
Anyone else thinks that we might end up getting a short Space Arc before Toriko ventures for real into the Gourmet World? I mean, if the rich folks feel safe enough to travel there, then I doubt it will be much of a challenge for the main cast.
I just think it would be lame if Shima threw aside the idea of space trips to rush to the Gourmet World. I'd rather have everything in the Human World as fleshed out as possible before Toriko left it. And so far those space trips are the last thing we have yet to see more of.
-
Well, space isn't a part of the world. But there are probably even more dangerous beasts and tastier foods on other planets, I love that idea! Maybe GOD's "other worldy" taste doesn't come from Gourmet World.
-
In before Toriko gets sudden superpower because angry and friendship combined…

I think it is kind of inevitable for Toriko to go into autogamy mode.
His fight with Starjyun is very well built. He first fought with him at Regal Mammoth arc as far as i can remember which he only won because he went autogamy once again. Shima is portraying Starjyun to be Toriko's rival and developing his goals towards ingredients. Starjyun is about to kidnap Komatsu in front of Toriko's eyes. I think this scene is very well suitable for Toriko to go autogamy.
But correct me if i'm wrong when Toriko goes into autogamy his cells starting to eat theirselves or use themselves to produce energy right? So once this starts he will consume himself eventually which can only be stopped by providing Toriko's cells an ingredient so autogamy will satisfy and stop.
Once again correct me, Toriko ate Regal Mammoth's flesh and drank Mellow Cola when he went to autogamy last two times. I don't remember if he did autogamy other than those times. So what I'm saying is in their fight field there is nothing to eat BUT Starjyun. If Toriko goes into autogamy mode with awakening his appetite he must eat Starjyun and i really don't think we will lose him so early. I hope not.
-
Nah he'll eat Setsuno. The more a meat matures, the tastier it is.
-
Toriko can lose, come on. Starjun could be his main antagonist in the future, in the Gourmet World. And then, why can't Starjun have a power up like autophagy too?
-
I'm on the train that want Toriko to lose actually. But off-screened, no? It was a fight that was expect long before the arc.
And realistically thinking I think Shima would want to show Toriko's fight with Starjun. It is only logical, right?
I'm not saying Starjun can't have a last-point power up like Zebra and Toriko given his character and abilities he probably will have that kind of thing with the high chance of it being related to heat.
I'm only saying wasn't Toriko's autophagy meant to consume him? Looking at the scene there is only one way for Toriko to fight back, and that is autophagy.
Problems start here now:1- Isn't autophagy creating energy by feeding on one's body itself? If Toriko were to lose it means his death! If he would start winning I can see Starjun using a fail-safe mode or appetite-like thing which should be enough for Toriko right now. Either way if Starjun were to lose Toriko would die anyway because he needs to eat something. And since there isn't any high level ingredients like Mellow Cola or Regal Mammoth's flesh, what was it, Jewel Meat i think he could only eat Starjyun but I don't think he would count anyway.
2- I want Toriko to lose. But it seems he can't fight right now without autophagy. And If he were to use autophagy we got problems on 1.
I just don't like the way Toriko is losing this. It would need to be his fight like Tommyrod where he will loose consciousness. But his fight with Starjun was the most develoepd thing in this arc I think. Why would Shima prefer it to get done with it off screen? -
You're correct. Toriko has entered autophagy two times in the series so far. The first was against GT Robo Starjun, where he saved his life upon finding an feasting with the Jewel Meat. The second time was during the fight with the Nitro of the Gourmet Pyramid. That time the tasty Mellow Cola replenished his energy and saved him again.
But if he enters autophagy now, then we are before a true drama, because this time there's absolutely nothing to eat that can satisfy the devil inhabiting his body.
He isn't fighting a GT Robo or a Nitro that was weakened from hundreds of years of sleep, now he's engaged in a battle to death against the strongest of all Bishokukai who is only below the highest ranks such as Kuromado and Midora himself.
Toriko is losing this, and nothing acan avoid that. And I'm certain he will go autophagy and have a last desperate attempt to restraint Starjun from taking Komatsu with him.
