And judging from Ban mistaking that girl for "Elle", and his words of "a real sin can't be erased", followed by King saying "you already know that pretty well", I bet that this "Elle" was someone important to both King and Ban, and Ban somehow is responsible for her death

Yeah, the fact that Ban was so adamant that he was a fake makes me wonder if he really is an imposter, or if it was just a "only guy that doesn't recognize him" gag. I mean, it was said that they were always together back in the day, so if anyone should know him, it's Ban.
Perhaps it technically is King, but he's been changed/brainwashed/altered by an outside force enough for Ban to completely not consider him as the King he knew.
I think he is really a young King and he hates Ban just that much.
He seems to have a good reason for hating him, but spoilers…

! It seems all the sins are supposed to have sacred weapons(or more literal sacred treasures) that account for their lost strength.
The last panel is hilarious when King asks them what happened to their sacred weapons.

For some reason, I wasn't feeling the last few chapters. The fight choreography was off and King as a character didn't vibe with me. This chapter is a big step in the right direction though. I like King's powers and it seems the annoying melodrama between him and Ban will be over with now.

You could call it melodrama, but King thought Ban killed his sister. It would feel odd for them to exchange any more words than they did.
I'm glad it's over too though.
