The thing is that many people here knows a lot about One Piece, but very few knows about literary criticism. And I think it's ok in that way, since Oda is not Shakespeare or Homero. But there are commun facts about human interpretation and literary stuffs that are valid even if it's me who create a fictional story: interpretations of that kind of stories are subjective. There is no a thing like: yadayadayada ergo, quod eram demostramdun we have X beyond of any doubt. For instance, the rule applies to the Spain and the Mediterranean Island you quote.

And even for defending his pointless post, "Marco is Macklemore" suggests he's saying the impossible.

As in, rather than treating all ideas equally, we evaluate the evidence for and against them and come to a conclusion based on that. And if more evidence comes up, we revise and alter our conclusions as necessary. Sometimes your ideas will be shot down, but nobody really gains anything by thinking that all ideas are equally right, because ultimately they aren't
I think I have a different idea of the meaning of 'inspiration', and that we won't go anywhere with the debate. To me, here it's interesting to contribute with works and reference to the women-capalbe-of-stabbing-for-love topic. and given that Oda took many places of Dressrosa of Barcelona and many other elemnts of Andalucia, I dediced to contribute pointing that that theme appears in other famous works by musicians an, poets, and writers. I'm not saying "Oda read Bizet's Opera and then write his Viole character inspired in Carmen". (How could I know that). But the references I give are plausible and interesting. That's all I want to do here. To say something interesting, not a true. So, I'm ok with it, if I can do that according to the rules of the site.

You really must not know much at all about literary criticism if you're confusing [interpretation of meaning] with [interpretation of what visuals and culture] an island is based on.

There's nothing subjective about Oda directly drawing upon clear elements from all three major cultural spheres of the Mediterranean. They're all sitting there and that's really that. Its not symbolism, its decoration. The Colosseum is never not going to be Italian/Roman, the name Kyros and Greek style armor is never not going to be Greek, Flamenco is never not going to be Spanish. Other things about it are more subjective, but given the basis of objective visuals? They gain hella credibility.

Other things about it are more subjective, but given the basis of objective visuals? They gain hella credibility.

Again, you have missed all the point of my lasts posts in this thread. I have said, Oda can take elemnts of Spain, and of another sites and of his garden in Japan and put them all in a single panel. It's his divine and soberign will. If you dont undesrtand that that is consistent with the idea of Dressrosa being an island inspired in all those cultures you pointed, I can help it anylonger.
Now, notice in the beginning I'was not talking about references for Dressrosa. I have being talking about references for the lover-killer-flamenco dancer-woman. I suggest some of them, which match perfectly the other references about Spain… (now maybe this could help you to understand: Bizet is not spanish, is french). So what was the point on correcting that? But maybe you like to win debates, and make points in virtual threads, and maybe your obsession about providing a reference to Dressrosa had mislead you in all this long and useless quarrel. Maybe that's why I didn't want to enter on it.

Now obviously this thread has a lot more quality, mainly due to certain users who can provide personal experiences (like Monkey King) or even skills that are mandatory to get a reference in the first place (like Aohige), but jumping in to tell people that they should open their own thread if they feel like sharing something trivial is… difficult if you ask me (especially when we look at the first post of the thread).
I'm not siding with the guy who claims the entirety of Dressrosa is based off Carmen, but what about the possible side story of Sanji with Violet? Sanji's currently in a situation that's kind of similar to what happened to Don Jose in Carmen, having been seduced and made to forget about his current duties in order to commit a criminal act.

Oda isn't Shakespeare, he's Herge crossed with Akira Toriyama. Ever read Tintin? All those places if they aren't real locales are based on real locales. Read King Ottokar's Sceptre, it's an amalgam of Balkan and Central European elements. It's very similar to what Oda does when he makes more realistic islands (as opposed to Skypiea).
