"Classic" Mafia Open Setup: Players know each and every role in the game. The setup is as follows:
1 Mafia Goon
1 Mafia Roleblocker
1 Town Doctor
1 Town Cop
5 TownspeopleRole Explanations:
! You are a Townsperson. You have no special abilities. You win when the Mafia is eliminated.
! You are a Town Doctor. Once a night you may select a target. That target cannot be killed. You win when the Mafia is eliminated.
! You are a Town Cop. Once a night you may select a target. You will learn the target's alignment. You win when the Mafia is eliminated.
! You are a Mafia Roleblocker. Once a night you may select a target. That target's ability will fail. Additionally, you may select a target together with the Mafia Goon. That target will be killed. You win when the number of Mafia equal the number of Town.
! You are a Mafia Goon. Once a night, you may select a target together with the Mafia Roleblocker. That target will be killed. You win when the number of Mafia equal the number of Town.
Rules! 1. The object of the game is to achieve your win condition using your abilities, working together with allies and lynching your suspects. For the enjoyment of all, always play towards your win condition.
! 2. In order for a participant to be lynched, a player must type "Vote: PlayerName" or "Vote Lynch: PlayerName".
! 3. Players may solicit a No Lynch by writing "Vote: No Lynch". If the majority votes "No Lynch", the day ends without a lynch.
! 4. Contestants may rescind or adjust their vote, but may only do so by first entering "Unvote" followed by any further modifications. All voting and/or unvoting must be done in BOLD or it will not be counted.
! 5. Once a majority has been reached, the current count immediately validates a lynch and ends the Day Phase, whether or not the moderator is present. Unvoting or changing of votes after the fact will not alter the outcome.
! 6. Personal Messaging, E-mail and any other means of communication outside of the game thread are prohibited. Discussion about the game (between active players) is restricted to the main thread. Only the members of the Mafia are an exception.
! 7. A direct copy or printscreen of your role is forbidden. You may freely paraphrase (or falsify) them.
! 8. Deceased players may not post in the main thread at any time. Non-players are asked to refrain from posting until the game ends.
! 9. During the Night Phase, no player may post in the main thread.
! 10. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS ONCE THE GAME OFFICIALLY STARTS. BREAKING THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN A MOD-KILL.
! Truthfully, Mafia requires a level of secrecy that can only be managed with full cooperation from all players. Everyone must maintain the integrity of the game to the best of their ability in order for the game to be enjoyable. People who break these rules will be punished.
The Day Phase will last 72 hours or until a lynch is achieved.
The Night Phase will last 48 hours or until all Night Actions have been sent in.Players Left Alive

Let's come out swingin' people. I'll be aiming my lynches against people who are abstaining from the vote. Random lynches are ehhhhhh…okay. But I would still like to push a wagon based on actions or lack thereof. Time for questions:
1. Shuhan what's up? Are you going to run wild? By that first post, I'm thinkin' not.
2. Galaxy 9000, any concerns about our setup? Are there some strategies you're working on?
3. Holygamer999, do you think No Lynch is acceptable today?
4. Stereo Mike, how long do you think I will live in this game? How about you?
5. Pyrofrost, what do you hope to accomplish on day one? Any goals?
6. Mrs. Iceburg, do you trust anyone who tries to take on a mentor role? Why or why not?
7. Tyrone Pines, how much does someone need to contribute before they are considered 'not active'?
8. Gooner, ask me a lot of questions. -
Hmm, Day 1, nothing to go off of at all.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Harvady:
2. Galaxy 9000, any concerns about our setup? Are there some strategies you're working on?
No concerns at all. Well the game just started, and I don't think any "strategies" are needed at this point.
-
Harvady Alumnus: Do you want to take leadership role for the town? Why or why not?
Also, do YOU want a lynch on day 1?
-
@Harvady: not gonna go wild till it warrants it.
Question right back at ya, how safe do you think you are from dying/being lynched?
-
@Harvady:
9. Wooden_Giraffe, how sexy do you feel right now?
Very much so, very much so indeed. And you good sir, clearly you are bold, but are you…daring?
-
@Galaxy:

Ya gotta make something to go off of. You know that. stares As far as strategies go, there are certain things that should be made note of, if not spoken aloud. Day one is the only day where we are free to play 'what-if'. If you don't have something in mind now, what's to say you will tomorrow?
Harvady Alumnus: Do you want to take leadership role for the town? Why or why not?
Also, do YOU want a lynch on day 1?
Abso-freakin'-lutely. On both counts.
In regards to the whys for the first question, Aside from my own enjoyment, it's important that we keep focused. Town needs a leader who will push suspects and lead lynches. I assert that I am best suited for the position.
More questions.
@Harvady: not gonna go wild till it warrants it.
Question right back at ya, how safe do you think you are from dying/being lynched?
As leader of town, I am priority number one for 'dem mafs.
-
@Harvady:
As leader of town, I am priority number one for 'dem mafs.
Mmhmm, not surprised you would assert your dominance…
As far as plans go, I'd agree with Harv on lynching someone today for the express purpose of getting info to those who can do something about it.
With that, I want cop on me tonight. Doc wouldn't hurt either...
-
@Harvady:
7. Tyrone Pines, how much does someone need to contribute before they are considered 'not active'?
I don't know. :/ I guess I would consider someone inactive if they didn't post for a whole day phase.
I also think it would be best to lynch someone. I'd rather not waste the first day like the last times I played. >_>

The way I see it, No Lynching behooves more No Lynching.

No doubt. I expect three posts per player per day phase. Once every 24 hours isn't unreasonable.
We still need enough time to gather the votes to complete a wagon. That's why I will definitely be placing my vote on a silent player by the 36 hour mark.
-
I'll only agree on lynching a silent player, but if everybody talks, then No lynch. No reason to lose players on the first day with zero basis.
-
@Harvady:
3. Holygamer999, do you think No Lynch is acceptable today?
Hmmm…only if someone is acting scummy enough to warrant it. Otherwise we would be more likely to kill off a townie than a mafioso.
-
@Galaxy:
I'll only agree on lynching a silent player, but if everybody talks, then No lynch. No reason to lose players on the first day with zero basis.
Your conditions are contradictory. You say that you'll vote No Lynch if everyone talks, despite the fact that 'everyone talking' could bring about the very basis you require to lynch. What do you want to have happen? What are you going to make happen?
Hmmm…only if someone is acting scummy enough to warrant it. Otherwise we would be more likely to kill off a townie than a mafioso.
I take it you were answering whether a lynch was acceptable rather than a NL. Secondly, the odds of us lynching town will always be higher than that of lynching mafia. If you aren't talking about odds, then there is no reason to hold back lynching for fear of being wrong. Any reason to lynch is a good reason. Keeping in mind that the only way mafia dies is by being lynched, I'm highly motivated to get a lynch today.

.
Nobody is going to be dumb enough to be scummy on the first day. If they do, then sure, they would need to be lynched, but if it's just common chatter like most of us are doing now, then no lynch is the best possible option.
-

No-Lynch is never the best option. No-Lynch is what you do when there are no other options.
Believe it or not, being scummy is seldom intentional (Joke). But seriously, no one chooses to be scummy. A Mafioso doesn't decide on day two: "I think I'll bandwagon needlessly" or "I won't speak for this entire day phase." There's no difference in Day One from Day Two unless you make one.
I want you to answer my questions from the last time I addressed you. Because I am worried that I already know the answers.
-
Finally, made day phase…apologies just back home and online.
Still getting my head around the system, seems we start in day phase, I'm used to starting with a night phase, which makes definite info a bit more likely.
I've also never played a game with this many players, means lynch is both important and needs to be right.
Should be good for me to get used to the system, is this a "mini game" or are they typically this sort of size?
If I brought my Impel Down game here with 22 players and all sorts of crazy abilities it might be a bit of shock, lol, I'm hopeful you will all enjoy it still. xD
Answering question as requested :
4. Stereo Mike, how long do you think I will live in this game? How about you?
Don't know you at all and if I am honest, don't even know how many phases a small game like this even lasts. I figure 3 to 5 phases approx?
As for me surviving, well, newbies tend to either get smashed early as an easy kill (unlikely to be protected) OR they make it a fair way if they are not seen as a main threat to mafia. So either dead early or make it a fair way. A few newbies, I believe someone said though…. -
Stereo, I know you're new to this format, but try to not edit your posts, it will get you mod-killed.
-
_The place I used to play you get a infraction for double posting.
The place I currently play you get modkilled for editing mid game.

Not editing your posts is a rule so that no one can edit their posts to amend possible scumslips, it also encourages people to think about their posts before they post them.
It's not like we're saying that you would "cheat" like that, it's just to prevent people from thinking the idea.
EDIT: I was merely clarifying for Stereo, i am in no way related to the current game and thus i can also edit.

We still have 48 hours right? Ill wait another 24 before making any concrete decisions.

Reasoning behind this? Random lynch.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Random lynch? is what I meant, it's a question not a statement.
-
Not random, Pyrofrost hasn't spoken since checking in. Like I said, I agree with Harv about lynching silent players. When he/she comes in and talks, we will see…
-
Posting is encouraged, doubleposting is appreciated, tripleposting is accepted, quadrupleposting is frowned upon. But editing will get you killed!!
HARVY, HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT MY TEACHER FETISH ??
Shuhan, can you explain in your own words why you think quiet players are detrimental for the Town? (50-100 words)
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Galaxy:
Nobody is going to be dumb enough to be scummy on the first day.
Can you sum up three things that would qualify as "acting scummy" (and thus which Mafia players would avoid doing on the first day)?
-
bah…I hate essay writing:sad:
Anyway, lurkers are very detrimental to town, just look at our past games. They provide an excellent hiding place for Mafia and we need people to talk. How are we supposed to even form an opinion of you if you refuse to speak. Lurkers have the tenancy of being inactive townies, but a silent townie is as bad as a mafia member. Lurking townies don't play towards the win condition and quite frankly irk me to no end.
Right back at you Iceburg, what are your thoughts about the goings on today, what do you think should happen?

This is an interesting vote. Why did you vote Pyrofrost and not Mrs. Iceburg? Are you going to take back your vote if they arrive?
We still have 48 hours right? Ill wait another 24 before making any concrete decisions.
That is highly ill-advised. I wager it'll take at least that long to get a wagon going. It's likely that some players will dissapear by then, making your home stretch useless.
@Mrs.:
HARVY, HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT MY TEACHER FETISH ??
I sit across from you in Teacher-Fetish-Anonymous. You didn't recognize me from my disguise. I was the guy dressed as 4kids Sanji.

I get what you're trying to say, but I don't particularly like the pressure you're putting on me and other people to vote fast. Ill vote when I feel I have a reason to suspect someone. If it makes you feel any better, I'll try to make a decision tonight.
-
@Harvady:
This is an interesting vote. Why did you vote Pyrofrost and not Mrs. Iceburg? Are you going to take back your vote if they arrive?
I picked Pyrofrost mainly because I don't know him/her (no offense) and not Iceberg because she usually is a great contributor, be she scum or town. I also answered your question already in an earlier post.
Once Pyro shows up, I will reconsider if need be. For now, I'll stay here m'kay~
-
Yeah, I agree with Shuhan. Unless Pyro shows up, they're the only one we have any good reason to lynch, and if we don't lynch anyone today, we might still not have anything to go on tomorrow.

I personally want to go with a no lynch if possible. Pyrofrost not showing up would force me to have to Lynch him, but if he does show up, I would want a no lynch obviously.I can't make anything happen.

Keep in mind that I'm not necessarily talking about you voting. You stated that you weren't going to make any 'decisions'. If you were going to wait until the last 24 hours to start coming out with opinions, then that would be a problem, as many people wouldn't be able to answer or refute you in time. The 36 hour mark is when I said I would vote.
If I hadn't asked you a direct question, your first post of the game would have been you saying you weren't going to participate until the last third of the phase.

The reason I said 'make' is because you No Lynches happen with or without help. If you want a No Lynch, then you need to vote for it, and not wait for town to fail their lynch. Waiting and not doing anything actively is what scum does.
Saying you can't make anything happen is like giving up. If you are arguing 'make' in the literal sense, then you're needelessly stating the obvious.

I do apologize for getting here late. I had no idea the game started, I do apologize.
