Guys I was thinking, what if the Spider Troupe was put in a position where they had to murder the Kurta Clan in order to prevent a war? And maybe part of the Spider's rules for reluctantly murdering the clan was Kurapica's safety?
:p
;)

Not sure if the smiley faces mean you're joking, but when Chrollo realized the "Chain user" was a Kurta, everyone seemed genuinely surprised that there was a survivor.

Yeah I was joking. My post was pulling from the Itachi reveal in Naruto years ago

Man i'm gonna miss the Spiders. Why do they have to be awesome and lovable?
-
I've been rereading the series, and something is kinda weird. Why was Pon part of the first Hunter team in NGL? Didn't she fail the last two exams?
As for the special, I really like it. Backgrounds were really nice. Not sure about the end, though. I liked the idea that the Kurta were only just murdered for their eyes. Them having some sort of revenge or whatever reminds me of Naruto and the whole cycle of revenge stuff.

Pon was most likely asked or volunteered because of her specialty. She was the bee keeper girl right?
-
Poor Pon. Never had a chance to be reborn as an ant.
Who was the nen arrow guy? Puckle? We never saw his ant reincarnation either. If I recall he was diced up and devoured by multiple ants?
I miss our ninja hunter from the first arc, I bet he's developed a sweet nen ability. My memory fails me, was he shown during the election arc?
-
Yep, he was shown after Gon recovered.
You know, I always held out hope that we'd one day see Chimera Ant Pokkle, since there's still a possibility he was fed to the queen. I'm sure he'd still suck as much as he did as a human, but maybe he'd get a chance to become, I dunno, a kangaroo or something cool like that.
-
-
So these guys only appear for one chapter right at the end of the volume and are already plastered on the front cover of the volume.
I love their designs though, makes me thirsty for new chapters
-
Now even the covers are Black and White..
-
Now even the covers are Black and White..
Probably just the actual tank cover and not the slip cover. Manga does that all the time, the color art is on on a slip cover, then the actual book cover is just a black and white image. Like real books.
Stateside we don't get the slipcovers and just get the color cover.
Not that Togashi's coloring is ever one of his strong points anyway.

I just realized that CA Pokkle was probably killed in the least dramatic way possible.
I thought his Nen Bow and Arrow was cool (I like the thing he does with his fingers) too bad…
-
Funny thing about that is that we never got to see the full repertoire of his Nen bow powers.
-
Anyone think the dude in the mech suit could be Gyro? Be nice for him to show up again…

Wait, Hold on, what Chimera Ant Pokkle?!

No one ever publishes the actual cover, unless there's something special in them, specialy before the real one. One Piece's are in a lighter shade of color, and FMA was white and blue (same difference)

All the Trigun Maximum volumes had a normal cover on the volumes, and on the inside of the cover had a bizarro version of it.
-
Wait, Hold on, what Chimera Ant Pokkle?!
That was exactly my point.
I could see him reviving, going to try and eat people only to get blown up with a missle.
FFA I know you like to make theories but why would Gyro be in a mech suit?
He hates people, has ant powers, and only relies on himself. I can't see him doing that since he wouldn't have the money, he wouldn't know how to build it, and he most certainly wouldn't rely on others.
We're going to see him again, maybe in the hidden continent (or not, I can't see why he would go there), but apparently him and Gon will butt heads.
Edit: Although I'm a bit of a slowpoke here, I'm starting to realize that Togashi always tries to sweeten the blow of his morbid tendacies.
If you look at Yu Yu hakusho, anyone who met a bitter end that left a bad taste in your mouth were outright revived or "never really died". (Genki, that little video game kid, the Dr. Ichigaki team, the Ice Shinobi guy)
I'm not going to lie, even though I like happy endings, sometimes I think dead characters should stay dead, since.. it makes sacrifices feel cheap.
He also repeated that "humans are the real demons" thing in chapter black. Ya know, Demon blood orgies.

The style of volume 32 mirrors the cover of volume 23.

But holy hell Togashi, even Pariston being there doesn't save it from being amateurishly ugly.
-
I don't like it either.
It'd be cooler if both covers had more detail in them.
I loved the netero one (although I can see why some people hate it)

Wow. I have not seen that cover before. I stopped buying the physical volumes right around 20.
Looking at other images, the Viz edition at least throws a red X into the logo and does some overlapping of the logo to look a LITTLE artistic. Sheesh.
Well, nevermind. I've been totally wrong about a ton of stuff today.
-
-
Is there a source of these covers?
-
Ooooh new ending (I like it but I'll definitely miss Hunting For Your Dream). And I guess half of a new opening! Departure is going to haunt my soul for eternity. I'm surprised I still actually like the song lmao.
-
Hellacious shift at work, time to relax and watch Huntaa Huntaa on my big screen TV. So excited! Also that new cover is balls. Kinda charming though! In its own… minimalistic(???) way!
Also, since Hunting for Your Dream is gone, in case you haven't heard it here's a link to the full version which is lighter but pretty fantastic. I've had it on my MP3 since it came out I think.
This is the best fucking show. That new opening
-
I'm gonna miss hunting for your dream but I like the new ending, it's nice having a new animation for the opening as well
I loved it when the anime played the first ending on the radio during the hotel scene. This anime has such nice little touches
This arc (this whole series really) makes me interested in playing a game partly crafted by Togashi. I think he'd design an awesome battle system, setting, and plot for an RPG
The Sun Also Shines at Night from the old anime is probably still my favorite HXH theme
-
I enjoyed this episode. New ending song I liked a lot. New opening visuals I liked…Although I'm getting a bit tired of that song. Doesn't feel fitting for the imagery any more.
The episode itself was pretty good. I don't remember Killua noticing his brother at the auction in the original.
Spoilers?
! Also how did Hisoka wind up in GI? I don't remember how he got there.

he got there with the help of the phantom group to help(although it's never shown but strongly implied) finding the nen eraser and mediate with chrolo since the group can't contact him.

Guys, spoiler tags for the anime watchers.

Guys, spoiler tags for the anime watchers.
That's not how AP forums work, you don't need to spoiler tag manga spoilers since it's assumed most of the people are also reading that and keeping up to date with it, it be stupid to have to spoiler tag the majority of the conversations (since people are more likely to talk about new current material then the animated recap of stuff they've already read)
basically it's not an anime friendly thread unless your in the One Piece anime section
-
I was under the impression only the Naruto and Bleach thread was the only spoiler tag free zone.
-
Guys, spoiler tags for the anime watchers.
Er sorry…Yeah that's a bit difficult to do here. A lot of us already saw the original anime too. This remake hasn't even gone past what we haven't seen animated before.
I tried fixing my prior post but Darth had it quoted ^^;;
-
Yeah the whole spoiler tag is a tricky thing, like it makes sense in the Jojo thread since most people haven't read the manga, but in this one and others most people have read the manga.
-
So i was just thinking, but is it usual for a manga author to do 10 + names at a time? Becuase i have a feeling that thats what togashi does.
Lets say, for example, right now he has done 15 names for the dark continent arc after fixing the art for the volume releases, then he would go back and make the actual chapter and release it for sj, then at some point he stops doing the chapter then releases names for sj.
Just a thought.
-
Hey guys I wanna talk about something.
Why was Killua never taught nen by his family? All of his siblings (sans the fat one) knew it, even the younger ones. It seems weird that in their thorough training they neglected to the most basic parts of nen, something that would lead you vulnerable to death after being hit once by a nen attack. Why would they not teach him something that's not only vital for survival but also would increase his power exponentially?
And what's up with his younger brother being on par with the Troupe, when Killua was nowhere near a match for the group? It wouldn't be that bad but earlier Killua was stated to be the most talented in the family's history.
These are some of the only inconsistencies that bother me in this manga, what's Arlong Park's opinion on them? -
Illumi was older, and it's implied Kalluto was probably taught by his mother.
-
Killua did run away. Maybe they had planned on training him in Nen, but he bolted and started learning it on his own anyways.
Whoo boy. Killua woulda been extremely overpowered too early in the series if he had any training in it before doing the test at the beginning. He could already murder people with no effort and push several tons.
-
I'm a assuming the Zoldycks teach nen at a certain age.
With Alluka, nen was naturally learned, like with Kogumi and several other prodigies.
So the only inconsistency is how it looks like Kalluto learned nen around the same time as Killua, or even before. It's possible Killua ran away from home around the time he was supposed to learn the technique. Maybe they're close enough in age that the family was planning to teach them together? Maybe Kalluto secretly taught himself? The entire Zoldyck family doesn't seem above going behind each other's backs and looking out for their interests as long as they don't hurt another member of the family.
My point is that there are several possible explanations, though none have been given.
On the subject of the Troupe, Kalluto is not on par with them at all. Feitan's fight in the CA arc drove home that point. Yes, the Troupe found him worthy enough to be recruited, but they were also open to recruiting Gon and Killua right after they had learned nen.
-
I think Killua was never taught Nen because Illumi wants to control him, and Killua knowing Nen would've just made it harder to do so, as seen in the CA arc. Maybe they would have taught him Nen when Illumi had better control over Killua, or they may have never taught him.
The Kalluto thing might be explained by someone else, my memories on the later parts of the series are a little vauge, so I won't try.
-
Judging by Kalluto's reactions to seeing the Ryodan in action during the Chimera Ant arc, it was heavily suggested that he wasn't up to par for the Troupe just yet; he considers himself one of its weakest members.
We don't know why he's in the Ryodan, or what his purposes for joining are, but you can bet they have something to do with Killua. The Ryodan at least said his abilities were useful for tracking down the Nen Eraser. And his Zetsu was good enough that Franklin and Bonolenov couldn't detect his approach - though Hisoka could, and praised him.
It's not quite clear what the requirements to join the Ryodan are at this point. Nobunaga seemed to want to recruit them based purely on their Zetsu abilities and attitude, so who knows what the Ryodan accepts?
They're a strange bunch. As far as why Killua wasn't taught nen, I'm of a mind with Marano: Illumi wanting to be able to better control him as he grew up and Killua knowing nen interfering with that seems likely.
Gon and Killua themselves have gotten much, much stronger since the end of Greed Island and the Chimera Ant arc, so whether they'd be good enough to join the Ryodan now is something we don't know.
It's fun to speculate on, though! -
I'm wonderin if Togashi will do a standard time skip. I know he skips months for training montages, but not usually years. I'm curious if the next chapter will pick up immediately where the last left off or actually have a significant amount of time pass.
-

I can't see a time skip happening because Killua is on the run right now.
I'm more curious as to what Gon is going to do exactly, he found his dad, so is his role as the main character over?
-

His goal was never just "find my dad". It was "Be a great hunter and see what that's all about."
He wanted to meet his dad, sure, it gave him a thread to follow, something to do and an adventure to go on, but it wasn't the solitary driving force in his life.
His goal now is just as easily "be really strong by the time I see Killua again and impress him." His ambitions are a lot more blank slate and open than most shonen protagonists.
-
Safe to say Togashi didn't give him Nen immediately because it would make him too strong an because he would have no reason to train with Gon. Still, the reasons offered for why he doesn't have it are fairly workable. It's sad for Killua though. His whole life was hell, solely so he could be an excellent assassin. Then Gon, who is only marginally more talented than Killua and far weaker than him, almost totally bridges the gap between them in less than 2 years. And that is while Killua was training along with him. It makes you wonder why the Zolydocks even bothered with all of the assassin stuff.

Except he doesn't? It may seem that way since nen is one of the biggest factors for combat strength. But they both startet to learn nen together so they're about even when it comes to mastery of it. So regarding nen there wasn't really any skill gap to bridge.
If it comes to the whole skillset that doesn't relate to nen I think they're is still a gap if you lay it out on paper. The thing is all that doesn't account for much in nen battles. That said it doesn't mean those skills are useless. -
He was send at the age of 6 to "heavens arena" to reach 200th flor (were all is nen-users). So, maybe, in Zoldyck family they let their siblings to learn things by themselves.

He used that shadow-walk thing once successfully, and his electricity immunity came in handy a few times before it mainly became an admittedly helpful catalyst for his Hatsu. But other than that, nothing. The training seems pointless because, if you weighed it on a scale, Nen would make up 90% of Killua's power.

That's not even close to true.
There isn't a single character Killua's faced in the series that hasn't commented on, been impressed by, or been taken aback by Killua's skills as an assassin. His quiet walking, tailing skills, intimidation, reflexes, speed, strength (could open 16 ton doors before nen training), and durability as well as poison and electricity immunities have all contributed to his overwhelming skills for someone his age. You could even say they're essential part of why his Hatsu works so well: his physical training helped him develop a Hatsu that was perfect for him.
Can't really imagine how someone could look at his 2nd Hunter Examination after training in Greed Island,
Or at the gauntlet he ran singlehandedly against all those ants in the Chimera Ant arc prior to the palace infiltration,
Where he consciously refused to use his nen or yoyos so as not to give his enemy too much information about himself, and think "he hasn't had much use for non-nen related skills."That's just silly. He was ripping heads off left and right.
