Chapter 687: Wild animal
-
Last time I was here there was this huge sexism-discussion.
Zoro cuts Logias without haki but with sheer "fear", now that's an improvement. And Tashgi is capable of cutting Logias with haki. She didn't lose her face IMO.And Yarisugi (spelling? - G-5 commodore) seems to wear such a wrestling suit (does it make him hot or what!?).
He cut her like one would "normally" cut a (snow/solid) logia… i.e. they fall apart but could normally put themselves together. He just intimidated her too.
And lolz!
-
so any chance to get spoilers in the next 2 hours or tomorrow as usual?
-
They're usually posted in the siberia board.
-
whaaaaaaaaaat is that?
-
Well, we don´t need 2ch forums too much now for OP Spoilers ^^
Anyway, Spoilers Ch.688 tomorrow ^^
@Ukimix: :X
-
ey Redon, why we dont need them?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
nevermind. :-)
-
It's that time again! So… What does everyone think is going to happen in tomorrow's chapter? (There is a chapter tomorrow, right)? Think it will switch over to/focus on Smoker, Vergo, Law, and S.A.D.? Any 'revelations'?
-
I know the conversation is mostly over with, but I haven't had power or internet for a week, so I'm going to post this anyway.
I will hide it if you want to just skip over it though.
! Zoro fought Kuina when they were children. She beat him everytime. Zoro saw Kuina as an objective to overcome. She was better than him, and he NEVER got to beat her. One night they talked and she was mopey because her dad told her that "girls can't grow up to be swordmasters," and that she'll get weaker as she gets older. Zoro got pissed because, "I lost because I'm a girl" diminishes his objective of defeating her, and after this, is where most people remember his backstory. From this, we specifically know that Zoro will NOT accept a loss or win because of a condition. He recognizes that there are strong women, and that in his struggle to be "strongest" a woman could be his ultimate opponent.
! After this, Kuina dies. I don't want to read TOO much into this event in how it influenced Zoro's perception of gender, but as it's HIS defining tragedy (much like Nami's mother being killed or Chopper's father killing himself to spare Chopper from being a murderer) I do think that it could have lead to him being adverse to seeing a woman get hurt. In fact, that's what he said in chapter 687. "Just because I don't like doing something, doesn't mean I can't, or won't." He states pretty clearly that he WILL cause grievous harm to a woman if he feels the need to, but he's also more willing to go light on them for longer than he will a man.
! We saw with Hyouzo that he'll go lighter on men as well. He sparred with Hyouzo for a bit, got bored and shattered the guy's swords, telling him to get the hell away from him. Hyouzo tried to press his attack, and Zoro, after proving his superiority to the other swordsman, was utterly ruthless to the guy. With Monet, he was sparring with her for a bit (after she stopped chasing Nami, Robin and Chopper), she decided she had an advantage because of boobs, Tashigi showed up and agreed, the two ladies fought and then Zoro decided he was bored, stood up, showed the intense gap of strength between them, made it clear that he was willing to absolutely murder Monet if he felt like it, and walked away. Monet, not being drunk or doped up on energy steroids, felt utter terror and wasn't able to properly continue her attack.
! Is this sexist? Yes. It's treating one sex differently than another. Is it out of character for Zoro? No. It follows what we know about him.
! There's another example that people have been forgetting though. Thriller Bark, Zoro, Sanji and Luffy are knocked out from losing their shadows. To revive them, Usopp yells out that there is a "Beautiful lady swordsman with a lot of meat!" All three men wake up instantly. Luffy because he wants the meat, Sanji because he wants to see the beautiful lady swordsman, Zoro because he WANTS TO FIGHT HER.
! There have been VERY few fights where Zoro wasn't actively handicapping himself, fighting with a previously inflicted wound, or going up against someone who was on equal or superior footing. (Contrasted with Luffy, whose disadvantages are typically based on where he's fighting or being totally overpowered).
! To paraphrase another series: "I can afford to be sympathetic because I have confidence in my own abilities. If this lady here […] were
to swing her knife at me, I could catch it without breaking a sweat. […] Though I guess [she] might get angry and tell me to stop pitying [her], but that's not my problem." […] "Things like sympathy and compassion are privileges only the strong are allowed to possess. And I… am strong."
! Zoro can afford to go easy on Monet, because she was no challenge to him, and he doesn't like to cut women. Zoro can afford to look down on Tashigi, because she is no challenge to him and he doesn't like to cut women. Zoro can afford to give Hyouzo a chance to retreat because he was no challenge to him and he felt like it.
! If Zoro fights a woman that pushes him, he'll cut her. He won't hold back, because if he lost, "because she's a woman" then it's just as bad as if he won, "because she's a woman." If he holds back and wins, it's just proof that the person he fought is nothing compared to him. If he holds back and loses, THEN he's betraying the character that's been established for him. We'll probably get a bit of Luffy and Momonosuke, then refocus on Vergo vs Smoker and Law. The big turning point in the fight will be Law being able to get his heart back because Vergo is distracted by Smoker, and then the two ganging up on him. We also need to pick back up with Chopper, Robin and Nami but we just saw them a chapter or two ago. Franky won't show up until Baby 5 and Buffalo do.

Zoro and Tashigi won't show up apart from a couple panels maybe. Vergo is basically finished already. It'll either be a transition chapter to get everyone into the room or Law explaining S.A.D, I guess. I hope it doesn't focus on the focus on kids atleast. Though I wonder which direction they are running to. Could someone post a map of everyone's location?

I had completely forgotten about Franky. Tbh I dont really miss him though. He wouldn't really fit in this mess. I think the fight with Vergo is pretty much over. Law will get his heart back and maybe explain S.A.D to Smoker. I wonder what he will do with Monet's heart though. Force her to join his crew? Wherever that is.
-

[…] "Things like sympathy and compassion are privileges only the strong are allowed to possess. And I… am strong."You've just got me hooked on another series. I'd love to have Zoro say something like this in the future.
-
Zoro didn't kill Monet for one reason and Law already said it before "Weaklings can't pick their way of death", so due to Zoro is way stronger its up to him to decide if he kills or humiliates his opponent just like Law humiliated Tashigi, instead of killing her he just wanted to cut her up like pieces of meat and leave her alive as she stares at her own body parts in humiliation.

Im so excited for smoker and tashigi to join the crew

Just no, please no. though an exmarine would be incredibly handy, but that`s just ONE, theres no room for two of the same kind.
Edit: Or maybe one of them could serve as a mole? I mean if DD can do it, I can
t see why Luffy couldn
t. Even if probably it would be a pain for the crw to explain to him why would it be important or … "FUN" -
There's a better chance of Monet, Ceaser and Big Mom joining then smoker and tashigi, and that's because it will never happen, it's not even something worth arguing about as anyone who thinks this will happen has no idea how this story goes… I mean I don't have that great an idea as to how it will go but at least I mknow that won't happen
teaming up maybe, being on the ship for a tiny bit, getting a different perspective of them, but not joining them

I doubt it will be in this arc, but I believe smoker (at least) will join, or at least become allies with the SHs. Smoker has a strong sense of justice, and as the marines become more and more evil under akainu's ruling, he will fall farther and farther away from them. There is a reason smoker and luffy have to team up so often.

ahhh that's where your going, well I think it's pretty much implied that the marines are splitting, (the trigger was Koby's speech) but I think this good guy marines (Smoker, Tashigi, Hina, Coby, Helmpo, T-Bone etc.) vs the absolute Justice guys wil happen after the One Piece is reveled, cause as White Beard says the news will cause a war the size the world has never seen before, and Oda has confirmed one of the last arcs will be another Huge war that will surpass the last one, hopefully he restarts and finishes, some of the battles he set up in the previous war, Kuma vs Iva, Doflamingo vs Croc etc.
sorry didn't understand how you were phrasing it
-
Will the chapter be late tomorrow? I'm hoping for some Momo, Smoker/Vergo, and Dofla. Either that or a full chapter to finish Smoker vs Vergo or at least get us closer to a conclusion.
-

Speaking of the future war, which is going to be rife with parallels, I can't wait to see Luffy standing in front of the three current admirals. This time, though, instead of a broken mast, he'll have an entire ship (the Sunny) behind him with the Straw Hats. I don't really care about the logistics of it but I'm almost certain that Oda's gonna do this- dude loves parallels.

This war will be awesome, the entire world, all sorts of side characters and different groups will come back with there own idea of how the world should be formed
Navy (Absolute Justice)
Navy split (Good guy Navy men)
Straw Hats
Yonkou and their crew (and you thought one was tough to handle)
Shichibukai
Supernovas
Revolutionary's will finally have there time to shine
Former Shichbukai and their crews (croc, Moria etc.)
Hopefully Bon-Chan
and probably tons moreit'll be awesome, and imagine the endgame fights now, Zoro and Mihawk slicing up islands as they fight sanji vs…. well he really needs a good enemy (although Dofla vs Croc interupted by sanji and croc realizing he's Mr. Prince could be amazing)
DAHZIYVJHF^ u3 oqw so awesome to imagine
and of course that's only the fighting, the story will be better since it's end game

I think it will be sooner than the final battle. I would like to see smoker be with the crew for at least a couple arcs before that

Allies? MAYBE…as part of Luffy's crew? definitely not, they have been the SH's antagonist for far too long and Smoker is clearly the type of guy who doesn't really care how corrupted the marines may be, he would still stand with them and try to change their ways and everything that's wrong from the inside, not by rebelling them.
I dont think it would be impossible for him to join in this arc if Oda wills it. If vergo manages to get away alive, then he will surely claim that tashigi and smoker are traitors.
OK, now, STOP. STOP that pseudo-argument that "X thing is possible if Oda wishes it", you sound like some religious douche who regards Oda as some kind of capricious God that may randomly change something because he just "wished it" disregarding all story-logic. He's just a writer, a VERY good one, and while "impossible" may be a word you don't find convincing, maybe "improbable" is the one that best describes how hard would it be for Smoker to join.

I too am a fan of the Smoker4Nakama theory, and I get bummed that everyone always jumps down the throat of whoever suggests it may happen. What's worse is that I know it's not very likely, but people will always claim there is close to a 0% chance of it happening – which simply isn't true. There are many situations that could occur that would justify his joining. The worst part of it all is that, in the even-more-likely scenario that he doesn't join, people will spout their "I told you so"s as if it was wrong for us speculators to even entertain the idea.
I want Tashigi to join too, mainly because I enjoy her interactions with Zoro, but I can take her or leave her. Also, I've always thought of her and Smoker as a package-deal, so it would be hard to see one without the other.
But anyway, when you see someone trying to shoot your theories and speculations down, it's best to just ignore them. Whatever you do, keep a level head about it. Calling him or her a "bitch" wasn't necessary, and it makes you, and by extension - your beliefs, look bad.
