The Post EL moment where Zoro said everyone has to respect the captain? That's like one of his most defining and awesome moments because Ussop was expecting to welcomed back just like that after he had started the whole thing.

I remember Zoro was raging about no respect for captain = quit bla bla bla, note that Sanji of all people states that "for once he agrees with him" or something like that .

Nothing to do with being FM, it's just "logically" thinking, hence the fact that the others agreed with him .

The whole TB mess was a Zoro-only moment of putting aside his pride, great character development. Yes, Sanji stepped in, but it ended up being a Zoro only moment, sorry.

Again this has nothing to do with being the first mate .

If you're implying that sacrificing yourself is what make you first mate, then i guess Robin is too, after all she did the same for the crew @ W7, role eyes sigh~

Most likely big mom ate one of his arms which is why he hates her so much (he destroyed 2 of her ships when they were on fishman island)

The only thing Im wondering about after this chapter is the wall that Zoro/Kinemon broke and all the gas on the island. Wont the gas flow into the lab now? That would be a pain. And it would annoy me if that happened because we've been running away from this gas for 4 chapters now and its getting old. Hopefully someone will plug up that hole.

Also, Vegapunks mini dragon for nakama. I dont know why but I really like its design and I hope Oda does something cool with it

yes, because Laws' power can steal hearts, souls, make giant battleships fly around and unluck chains but it won't be able to put the wall back in place… everypower should have it's limits I guess.

I think all these actions are really freaking good evidence that Zoro is indeed filling in the role of first mate/vice captain/right hand, but each to their own. Especially the Post-Enies Lobby arc moment because he was the one who demanded Luffy to respected otherwise if no one respected Luffy the crew would eventually collapse. I don't feel like debating right now/this is supposed to be the chapter discussion, so I guess I'll just disagree with you.

The "first mate" thing is not a simple matter, otherwise it wouldn't pop up so often…

Other than a simple "following the captain" the Strawhat crew doesn't really respect any sign of hierarchy…but yes, Nami does act as a second-in-command most of the time. Here is a very significant scene depicting her role when Luffy was out of commission. Of course, some fanboys think Zoro is the series' main character, so it's hard to argue against them.

nobody says that he is not the second strongest of the strawhat pirates.
but that doesn't make him second-in-command,same being said for first mate…he doesn't have any command skills,so he can't be a first mate,nor a second in command..he is a combatant,that's all...pretty much like killer...though killer showed some good qualities which would make him useful as a first mate too.

Also, discipline is usually handled by the First Mate/second in command. Who handles discipline on Sunny? Yeah, it ain't the Captain, that's for sure. Then again, there are times when Zoro has stepped in and stopped Nami from being 'boss' but it's not often. If anything, I'd say they share the responsibility - and it's not so much a tiered thing, either. The whole crew takes responsibility for each other at times, so it's not so much Who is First Mate as Who is currently acting like someone they should be following. Usually it's Nami, but yeah, others have stepped in to that spot - Sanji, Zoro, Robin…

the firstmate is not only there to be 2nd in command, in reality this crew is very unorganized. Luffy is the glue that holds them together, if luffy is taken away then they'd go their separate ways. Zoro's main job is to follow luffy and to protect him at all cost, zoro is luffy's right hand man which makes him the firstmate

Wow you all tore me apart for that gas flowing into the lab comment. Relax. All Im saying is, yes I know plenty of the strawhats and Law are capable of dealing with it, but the fact that someone is going to have to deal with it AT ALL is going to be annoying. We've been running from the gas for about 4 chapters now and Im just sick of it. You all act like I said the gas is gonna kill everyone and the series is gonna end here on Punk Hazard and Kidd will be pirate king. Im just tired of the gas, thats all lol

It doesn't need to be explicitly stated that Zoro is Luffy's first mate. He just is. When Luffy's gone, the crew gets left under his supervision, he's the strongest after Luffy, and there's been multiple instances indicating an incredibly strong and personal friendship between the two (not to say that there hasn't been a friendship between the other crewmates, but their moments suggest a significant level of trust).

Rayleigh was Roger's first mate, so Zoro will be Luffy's. When Luffy's Pirate King you don't think they'll be saying Sanji or Franky or someone else was the first mate do you? No, the instinctive choice is Zoro.

I don't know if someone said this already, but it's quite possible that there is only one Supernova alliance. One page 3 Kid says he was disappointed when Law became a shichibukai, but he concludes that in the end law was scheming something. But Law is trapped in a cage by a mad scientist, doesn't really look like he's scheming anything. The only way Law in a cage could look like a plan to Kid, was if he knew about Law's plans beforehand. I think Law recruited Kid's crew earlier, and told him to extend the alliance on his own.

Something that caught my eye in this chapter is Brook leaving his body. The panel where Zoro asks Kinemon if he can cut iron you can see Brook's spirit coming out in the background. Oda doesnt just draw stuff like that for no reason. On the next page Brooks body is flying through the air and there isn't any real indication his spirit is in it, but of course there isn't any real indication his spirit ISNT in it either, but you know we can speculate. What reason would Brook have for leaving his body just as they were entering the door?

Vergo might (and let's admit it, probably will) do something to Law's heart, hence why Law couldn't do anything to him or CC. There was also the tiny problem of him trying to pretend being caught, plus Vergo's appearance was unexpected.
