since Namco Bandai is working on it here's hoping for Tales of (Symphonia or Symphonia Dawn of the New World would make more sense) will be in Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros

Sakurai teases us with a white board drawing

lol marth. The art style reminds me of the first smash. I'd like them to use this instead of the 3d models for artwork like in the last two

Sakurai: Don't expect more characters for next Smash Bros
Looks like they're trying to go for quality over quantity.
Hopefully this means less Clones. -

Hopefully this means less Clones. This is still in line what he has been saying all along. Though I he did say "a limit on what's feasible" to expect no new characters or even less than 5 for the new smash bros is laughable. Every website reads the Nintendo magazine and highlights it with "no new smash bros characters confirmed!"
This is Big Ambition Sakurai plus Namco for crying out loud, expect at least 45 or 50 character roster.
-
Or at least DLC. It would actually make sense, since then they get paid for providing characters that other people will inevitable mod in over time.
-
40-45 seems most likely but I see quite a few characters being removed like toon link and wolf. I just hope they don't go overboard on namco characters. 1 will suffice

-
He says there's not going to be more characters, but that doesn't mean old ones can't be replaced. I'd be happy with 45-50, but from the sounds of it, that won't happen.
-
And I thought the "customizable character" misinterpretation was bad…
-
This was a bad translation… He meant that the WORKING ROSTER for the CURRENT GAME (the fourth one) had reached its limits. We have no idea how big or small it is. Ninty and NB know that they would lose a major selling point if they didn't add to the roster, and NB is THE master at balancing large-roster fighting games.
-
Obviously they will have some new characters… I'd say between 40-45.
But even if they were going to go for quality over quality, I am still majorly hyped. If they succeed the game will be a good mix of the fun from all smash bros with the competitive level of melee or beyond :D
Majorly hyped i am.
-
Being hyped this early on is just begging for disappointment.
-
^ Par for the course.
-
It's hard to expect much after the handling of Brawl. Not that Brawl was by any means bad, but I feel the direction it went in won't do it much good, especially if they're making it something that works on both a console and a handheld.
Smash 64 über alles!
-
I guess I'm still among the few that really enjoyed the heck about Brawl. I was extremely hyped up for it, followed the Dojo everyday and went to the midnight release, and spent an ungodly amount of hours playing it just like with Melee and Smash64 before it.
Things would have to get really bad for this franchise to disappoint me.

I still play both

I loved brawl but it in no way lived up to the hype we gave it. Also it was ridiculously easy
-

Well I'm personally not exactly hyped, but very intrigued.
-
Brawls direction was just an evolution of Melee, maybe now things will really get shaken up. Either way an extremely well respected developer known for their fighting games has their hands in this. That fact alone has me hyped like crazy.
I seriously can't wait. I loved each of them, but this one has the best chance of having great balance and great online functionality due to the Wii U's online setup along with the Tekken team.
-
Not to mention, it exponentially increases the chances for a NamcoBandai rep…
-
Something I never see mentioned that I would like to see. More varied stages. The ones in Melee were great however I kinda felt a good portion of the new ones in Brawl were flat surface + platforms and a different background and came about pretty bored of them all quickly

Actually i enjoyed nearly all of brawls stages, im glad there werent too many unplayable levels in brawl, where as melee had a ton of scrolling annoying levels or very small stages. More variety would be great but as long as they can still be enjoyable while fighting on them ill be happy, i felt like my friends and i could play through many more brawl stages than melee ones which for that game only a few didnt offer advantages to certain characters.
-
A Pullblox/Pushmo stage would be cool. Level parts could be pulled and pushed back in.
-

Gotta admit. I hated the scrolling stages (although rainbow ride eventually became awesome for us) but I felt the likes of Hyrule Temple, (aside from the lil block in the corner where it was impossible to get back onto the main stage) Peach's Castle, Fourside, and Onett were a lot more fun. But maybe its just me.
I hope we see a lot of levels that we mightn't see chars in this time. Like the Bionis Leg from Xenoblade or a Lighthouse from Golden Sun.
-
Some Brawl stages were brilliant, many others were pretty weak. I was annoyed by the fact the Fire Emblem stage with the epic music was so unremarkable.
However, there's stages like the Kid Icarus stage and Halberd which I just found really fun to fight in.
-
I love Poke'Floats! You had to stay on your toes while fighting! Rainbow Road and Mute City were more annoying than fun to me.
-

Thats not true, it was remarkable how disjointed the three stages were, how horrible the transitions were, and how little the second and third stages looked like a Fire Emblem game (stage two looked like a Kid Icarus stage, Stage three reminded me of the Kraid stage from Melee).

Stage two resembled MANY scenarios of defending a keep or a temple from enemy invasion. Stage three resembles MANY scenarios of caves and caverns in which you not only have to take care of fighting enemies, but also of spots where fire or poisonous gas will come out of. Sure, there's platforming, that's probably why you're thinking of it resembling a kid icarus game.
Also, the idea is you start on the roof, move down to the inside of the castle, then move to what is below.
And I'm only thinking of the first US Fire Emblem title. -
Actually, stage two reminded me of Kid Icarus because of all the Atlus looking statues every where. Personally I feel the level designers should have seriously been looking at some medieval or gothic designs. As for stage three, I dunno, maybe it's because I've only played the GBA games, but I've just never really associated Fire Emblem with caves. I know that the game's eventually end up going their, but most of the missions I recall took place in either an open field or castle.
-
i didn't mind the fire emblem stage but i was dissapointed with the 3rd part of it. It was just a flat surface.
I thought brawl had to many gimmicky stages and not enough actual ones for pure fighting. I also didn't like how there were about 5 or 6 mario levels and then only 1 metroid/starfox/kirby level (excluding melee stages)
-
Because the next Brawl will SURELY have a improved level editor I don't want basic levels.
Sure i love em but i don't want to see a lot of them. I still play Brawl on average tri-weekly since it's release and I find myself going for the simpler stages more often… but with a level editor of major improvements I'd be awesome to see some fun and unique stages.
-
It's never going to be on PC level but they can still do a much better level editor, given the power of the console.
-
Not to mention the fact that now both versions of this coming Smash Bros. game will have access to a touch screen. I'd be fun to be able to have stages you can draw.
-
Could you imagine Smash Bros having connectivity with whatever Wii U Paint program Nintendo seems to be cooking up?

Perhaps but I'm not sure what it would be used for on SSB
-
Would be cool if they added this.

Creating you own platform textures and stage backgrounds.
-
namco bandai say they would love to have Tales characters in SSB WiiU/3DS.
Make it happen. Put in Lloyd and Kratos and I'll be happy.
-
I'd rather see Klonoa or Pac-Man.

Yeah Namco! Let's put another sworduser with a generic manga design instead one of the most recognizable character in videogame history!

If you want Skull Kid in Smash Bros. than let Sakurai know.
-
Skull Kid? Kinda a random choice isn't it? If they're doing assist trophies then yes. But I kinda feel there's enough Zelda chars in it as playable. Someone from Skyward Sword would make more sense to me. Unless they ARE re-making Majora from 3DS. That would make more sense to me.
-
Skull Kid doesn't make sense. What would he bring to the game? Like Local said, Ghirahim or even Demise (he'll probably be a boss instead tho) would make much more sense
-
why skull kid? he got so many votes. More than mega man and ridley. Hell out of all of them he would be my number 8 because there all better choices.
Stuff like this never means much though. I remember when brawl was coming out they did something similar and Ridley, Krystal and geno won the top spots. Yeah cause they were playable :getlost: -

Ghirahim won't make much more sense, if just only for his novelty, and wouldn't bring more than Skull Kid to the game … neither Demise.
-
Then none of the above .
-
I prefer K.Rool or Vaati over Skull Kid.
