That's because turtles have BEAKS. Those aren't turtles.. I don't know what those are.
General Ninja Turtles thread

-
Not really a worthwhile argument since the TMNT never had beaks anyway, other than few mirage comic books where they had some overly realistic interpretations.
-
I 'shooped this up a few years ago when the first Bay TF movie came out. I hope I didn't fortell the future :p

The "big noses" were cartoon beaks. I thought that was pretty obvious.
-
Show me a quote where they ever make references to having beaks and I'll concede. Otherwise, they're just silly mutant cartoon turtles that don't reflect reality in any way, which is what I always thought was obvious. Why do they have three fingers and two toes?
-
In the third movie they mention having beaks. I always found it odd since they didn't look like beaks.
They were looking at old Japanese paintings of Kappa that looked like them, they mention something like "they got your beak wrong". Not an exact quote, as I've only seen that monstrosity once.
EDIT: In the new cartoon they'll have 3 toes as well.
-
…I liked the third movie.
-
Turtles in Time. Not really that bad but definitely the weakest of the trilogy.

Look at their mouths.

Naruto explains it all!

You haven't seen the second movie recently have you?
-
i like the 3rd movie too, but it DOES have a lot of hate out there robby.
-
Second movie had Shredder miraculously and unexplained surviving his death in the first film, spouting "Babies!", a master plan that made no sense, a pair of idiot mutants even DUMBER than Rocksteady and Bebop, random lack of Casey Jones so they can have hip new kid Keno, a super cliche professor guy and a mutagen backstory thats even more nonsensical than the comics "aliens did it", turning the foot clan into even more of a joke than they already were, the turtles themselves walking right into obvious death traps instead of… sneakily ninja-ing around.. and having the brilliant "donut" plan, the ultimate anti-climax in Super Shredder basically killing himself, and an extended song number with Vanilla Ice that was dated even by the time the movie came out in theatres. Even when I was 10 I was upset when that scene happened.
Third movie at least had character moments and tried to do something different. Not as good as any of the comic's timetravel stories, but there were elements. Their fear when they lost Mikey, or Raphael instructing the kid "no matter what happens tomorrow, go play". The variety in the set design where its not... just New York. Some actual mysteries and characters that aren't Shredder.
First movie is by far the best of the four, no question (but it was pretty much shot for shot from the comics) but the third is no worse than the second movie, and better and more ambitious in someways.

Valid points. I honestly haven't seen Secret of the Ooze in a long time. The stuff with "Super Shredder" at the end of the movie was very ridiculous, as was his survival from the first film. The reason I said Turtles in Time was the weakest was mostly because it had such a weird story and some of the stuff wasn't explained or executed as well as the it could have. But then again that's also the case with Secret of the Ooze too I guess.
-
Secret of the Ooze was hooooorible. I never did see Turtles in Time, though. Probably because I was so traumatized by #2.
-
Turtles 3 is much, much, much easier to deal with if you just assume its Renet's time staff from the comics. Which, I knew about before ever even seeing the movie, so maybe that worked easier for me than most.
Savanti Romero would have been a way better villain,
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CzSQ2psX5TY/TaD4XJ7zywI/AAAAAAAAFjk/uG-JJqXqaBI/s1600/Cerebus03.jpg
and Renet a nice change of pace from April, but I guess they were scared to not have April, or have a cloven hooved demon guy as the villain. So, british guy it was instead.Hell, even excusing the comics, its not like the turtles timetraveling was a totally "out there" plot devie for the franchise. The cartoons and video games used the same thing.
Oh yeah, the third movie also had the turtles asking "Why should we go back to New York? It sucks there. We're awesome and loved here." CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!
-
I'm with Robby on this one; I much prefer Turtles 3 over Secret of the Ooze for preeeeeeetty much everything he said (Keno wasn't a bad character, per se; he was just…well, he was just there).
There is one thing though; I kind of wish the third film gave us some inclination that Casey and April were/weren't still together at the time. They kissed at the end of the first movie, had nothing about Casey even mentioned in the second, seemed oddly platonic in the third (Casey didn't seem too worried that April suddenly disappeared and an ancient Japanese guy took her place), and, if we count it as the same timeline, seemed to be in a serious relationship in TMNT. Kenshin and Mitsu had their dramatic reunion, why not have something for those two? A kiss, a hug, anything!
-
Well, April and Casey got married in the comics eventually, and adopted Casey's "daughter" Shadow, so there's that.
Of course, the comics also did some really asinine STUPID things with April, so…
-
The whole alien thing may just referring to the ooze:
http://collider.com/jonathan-liebesman-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-interview/154499/He doesn't outright say so, but he sort of hints it. Hopefully it's true.
-
So maybe Michael Bay is just an idiot then and doesn't even know what he's saying. Seems to me that they're not giving fans enough credit. “Look, it’s so funny—if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. "
Oh SORRY…yeah, we really don't know the basics about TMNT. OUR BAD
-
ya, the second film was loopy. I remember liking it as a kid anyways. (most of it) I wonder how it holds up now for me. I'm gonna have to go back and re-watch it now. maybe I should have a turtles movie marathon. Who's in with me! Cosmic, you can see the 3rd movie. I'm curious what you'd think now.
-
I honestly haven't seen Turtles 3 since it was in theaters and it was one of the first movies I remember actively disliking (and I'm far more tolerant toward movies than alot of people I know) I've seen Ooze many more times, and I can see the cheesiness of it, but I still find enjoyment out of it.
Was never a big Casey Jones fan either, TBH.

Haha, I told you all!
Actually…
"Turtles are from an alien race"
Turtles are from Ooze
Ooze from Alien Race
Turtles are from Alien Race!
What's the chances...?
-
Thats just them backpeddling and doing damage control because Bay's flippant non-sequitor one sentence statement got a shitload of backlash.
-
Yeah, but we still don't even know if that's the truth. After that last sentence he says "Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don’t know."
They don't know…. but hey, they promise we'll love it!
How...reassuring....
-
"i don't know" means they are still considering the alien bit. >_>
-
I don't know if that's what he meant, just that they seem just as much in the dark as to what the movie is about as us, yet making promises seems humorous.
-
so the oze is from the utroms so that kinda makes them alens. still don't be saying they crash laded in the sewers and then meet splinter.
-
But they mutated in the sewers. They're not aliens.
They're native to Manhattan.
I guess we could split hairs either way though.
-
It cause Splinter is an illegal alien. Totally a japanese tourist here indefinitely without any papers.
-
The working title for the film is apparently Ninja Turtles, which means that they're probably not teenagers either.

Can't tell if serious…
None of it is true.

I'm down with Biker Mice tho.

Wasn't the female really into the Biker Mice's leader?

Charlie (their mechanic) and Vinnie had a bit of a thing, but Vinnie wasn't the leader. (He was the coolest though.)
-
thats pretty funy. maybe street sharks and extreme dinosaurs are next?

Vinnie was the funniest, but I say Throttle was the coolest. (and hey, he was the leader!)

I think this is all happening because of Japan.
Saturday, 12 March, 11:00 AM.
Producers: So, Mr. Bay, how are you following up the dead line for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie?Bay: It's going great, if every explosion will be executed according to plan, the movie will be done next summer!
Producers: Excellent, it's about time we made a TMNT reboot, five years since the last one is like two decades for today's hollywood standards.
Newspaper boy: Latest news! The 9.0 earthquake in Japan have caused the Fukushima nuclear power plant to have suffered critical damage because of the tsunami and now people are being evacuated! Joking about mutation and radioactivity or even bringing it up is now a taboo and incredibly unsensitive.
Producers and Bay: Well shit.
-
I like that angle, actually. it would be a good explanation for the ninja stuff and splinter's background.
-
Eastman is selling alot of super rare collectibles from his personal collection O_O!!!
-
man i wish i could have that #1

I want WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much of this stuff, and I know I can't afford ANY of it. ;_; That first draft of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie script is peaking my curiosity though…
-
The movie has been put on the shelf…..probably for the best
-
Taken away from Michael Bay?
Thank Oda.
-
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Paramount, already gun shy with the delays the studio is facing with G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and WORLD WAR Z, is willing to take its time with NINJA TURTLES in order to iron out what it feels are script problems.
Script problems? Is that what they're calling the nuke of a PR move on Bay's part?
-
According to this, it's only been delayed from Christmas 2013 to May 2014, ala G.I. Joe 2. That gives 'em 23 months to rewrite that script, get someone besides Micheal 'EXPOLSIONS!' Bay on it, get it filmed and in the can.
…How soon until the new cartoon comes out again? Hurry Nickelodeon, you're my only hope!
EDIT: Speaking of the new 'toon, found some images of the character designs. Overall, I like the look of them. There's a few nitpicky things I don't like (how thick the elbow/kneepads are, Shredder looking like WarGreymon from Digimon, Don's neck.), but I think I'll get used to the style.
Also, slightly off topic, but I just realized that Chris 'Captain America' Evans was the voice for Casey Jones in TMNT. Who I loved in that movie. I wonder why. XD

Most of my problems with the turtles can be fix in less than 2 seconds, extrude the "beaks" out.
I edited them in Photoshop to show you what I mean; -
Nickelodeon Turtles trailer:
http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/06/21/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-nickelodeon-trailer/Theme seems to be a remix of the 80's theme song. Looks pretty good actually.
