Sigh… so people are actually going to buy pretty much the same game that came out a few months back? I really wish gamers would start to put their foot down.
Few More Months: The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Thread
-
-
I'll be mad if they add Gene in as a Power Up card for the new Heroes/Herald mode there gonna have.
-
Sigh… so people are actually going to buy pretty much the same game that came out a few months back? I really wish gamers would start to put their foot down.
It's their choice no one's forcing them get it. And no one forced them to get the original game which had it's flaws even before it got out of the gate.
-
Sigh… so people are actually going to buy pretty much the same game that came out a few months back? I really wish gamers would start to put their foot down.
Dude, where you been? People have been putting their foot down over this game for months. Its just that they're slowly starting to give up and just go with the flow (just like I did, although I still think its ridiculous that they are pulling the same crap like they did with SSF4).
I'll tell you this much, I'm sure as hell not getting the vanilla version of SFxT. Fuck that noise! >:(
-
It's their choice no one's forcing them get it. And no one forced them to get the original game which had it's flaws even before it got out of the gate.
The difference is people didn't expect the original game would have the problems it did. How can you know until you have it?
In common parlance – they got swindled. In laymen's terms, they got conned. You get mad at the people who buy a brand new, seemingly perfect car that they've been wanting and asking for for ten years only to find they've been sold a clunker after it's in their hands?
Why not get mad at the company that tricked them? Instead of trying to defend them for selling people an unbalanced, unfinished, broken game lacking basic gameplay features and modes and then turning around and releasing a new version with everything they said wasn't possible only a few months later? And doing so in a manner that PREVENTS people from getting the updates they want as DLC? CAPCOM took advantage of folks - what's weird is seeing people (like you) push the blame onto their trusting consumers because they're trying to justify your own bone-headed purchases.
"No one forced them to get this game they couldn't possibly know was a sham because a new version would be coming out within the year," ahahaha.
Are you for real?
-
This was posted on another forum but kinda agree with some of it.
This just doesn't fly with fighting games and it never has. Almost every fighting game, from every developer, works this way. And they always have.
Every version of Street Fighter went through 3 - 4 "betas". All of them.
Darkstalkers went through multiple revisions.
Tekken was a mere beta for Tekken 2 which may as well have been a beta for Tekken 3, etc.
Modern Tekken games get major updates and balance overhauls a year or less later.
Some Japanese games like Melty are updated and patched continually.
ASW overhauls their games continually.
Let's not even get started on the King of Fighters series.
It gets a bit hypocritical to see this constantly thrown at Capcom, yet never at anyone else.
The truth is, you're talking about fighting games here. These are competitive games on the level of RTS when it comes to "throw it out there, see what breaks, patch it or revise it as necessary". Because you know what? That's realistic. There is no development team in the world and no designer who can design this mythical "complete" fighting game on the first try.
When the game goes into the wild, the real players break it and do things the designers never thought of, or simply didn't have time to test for. That's the nature of these games.
In the old days, people didn't bitch and moan about it so much because you just walked into the arcade and put a quarter in the cab, and it was the operator's responsibility to order new games, new rom versions, and updates. Your fighting games just got better as if the Beat Down Fairy visited overnight and turned all those quarters into 3rd Strike.
It's true that today, we're being asked to buy actual copies of the games. Sometimes, this causes problems. But that doesn't change the fact of what fighting games are, always have been, and likely always will be.
And it gets even weirder when it's not casual players, but hardcore fans who complain about having to buy a new version of the game next season. Those are the people who SHOULD by all rights have gotten their 600 hours of value out of the last edition of the game. And they're complaining because… they have to spend another $40 to get another 1000 hours? At some point one has to call shenanigans on all this exaggerated pretense of crying about how poor hardcore gamers who get more value out of their games than anyone else may someday be asked to spend a bit more money.
-
Man… that's a Quoted for the Truth x 9001 right there.
A perfectly Balanced competitive game will never exist off the gate... ever.
-
The difference is people didn't expect the original game would have the problems it did.
Like the balance?
How many competitive games do you know are balanced once it hits shelves?
How can you know until you have it?
One Word: Review or Three: Word Of Mouth.
Why not get mad at the company that tricked them?
Because nothing comes from it 90% of the time. Capcom's not the only company let alone the first that sold a "working" albeit somewhat flawed game to consumers.
Some people make it sound like MvC3 is Capcom's equivalent of KOFXII.And doing so in a manner that PREVENTS people from getting the updates they want as DLC?
The same DLC that a number of gamers complain about not just because their used to getting all of game's content straight up. But also under the pretense that their being being forced into a nickel and dime scheme?
what's weird is seeing people (like you) push the blame onto their trusting consumers because they're trying to justify your own bone-headed purchases.
I wasn't pushing blame on anybody
But if I buy a game that wind up not liking after the fact, that I may or may not have had doubts about early on, even after reading reviews of it.
And the company responsible for the company later decides to put out an improved version of it somewhere down the road. I'm getting mad at myself not them. I willingly wasted my money
on their product when I didn't have had to and shouldn't have. -
DLC : Heroes and Heralds Mode

It all comes down to what the game is to the player. I think the above quote makes a valid point with how hardcore gamers have already "played their money's worth" from the first installment. Yes, at face value, I think it's smelly and shitty to release an mere update to a game that hasn't been out for a whole year… but then again, I have to consider if my first purchase was worth the money in which I paid for it. And that worth is determined to how much time and fun I had with it.
Both Vannila and Super Street fighter 4 have been paid in FULL for me. I played the shit out of both of them. Ridiculous amounts of hours with friends playing them.
Hell, Call of Duty (oh no he's bringing THAT UP!!!!) has been releasing installments EVERY YEAR for a while now. Lemme think here.
-wasn't interested in anything before Modern Warfare... but I didn't even buy that one. It looked pretty though.
-World at War... played the campaign, multiplayer, and copious amounts of Nazi Zombies. Ca-ching!
-MW2, I didn't even FINISH the single player... but definitely paid my copy off in the hours I spent shooting people in Team Death-match.
-Black Ops. I didn't even TOUCH the single player campaign. But well... same as above. Money well spent. Hell I didn't even buy any of the damn maps! But anyway... as for Marvel vs Capcom 3... well.... it's tough to say. I played a bunch of it the first month I had it.... but not that much. By the time Jill and Shuma arrived... I was already moving on to other games. However I did trade it back and got around 25 dollars for it... sooo.... it barely, just barely was worth my money. And that's why i'm being very cautious about the ultimate release. With all the games coming out this winter, I just don't think i'll have the time or care.
Now yah know what game is just downright swell?
Eh? Eh?
Mortal Kombat... that's what. I've MORE than received my money's worth on that title! (hell, even making up for me barely using Skarlett or Kenshi whom I bought!).
I might just go play some of that goodness right now.
Bolded the important bit.
Seriously, think about it. The game may be awesome, Gene may be awesome in it, he may in fact be cooler than 10 Dantes, and all the RE characters combined, but to an extent the Capcom choices are a popularity contest. Every single character in the game, including the new Ultimate characters are from Multi-game series'.
The fact that you have to keep telling people to play the game to understand should show this.
If not too many people know the game, and therefore there's not a huge demand for the character, then they have no reason to put him in.
I completely understand what your saying. And if anyone knows about how under the radar Godhand is… it's THIS guy (me). But why I stress him is because of the news that HE ALMOST MADE IT IN! He was part of a character pool that was apparently too large for the game... so him (and Megaman) were cut.
And i'd even say, popularity is one of the reasons for him being cut... but that's because Capcom doesn't see him as popular (no sequels though... although his game was just rebooted on PSN. eh eh?). However there IS demand for him out there.
Trust me Rin. If you'd have played his game. YOU'D want him in. But the reality of it I can accept. I'm just salty that's all. Plus I just like to talk about Godhand, lol.
-
I'm not even talking about stuff that's hard, like balance.
I'm talking about paying for spectator mode ("it's impossible!"), Collector's Edition players unable to get their characters like they were supposed to. Game breaking glitches and bugs up the wazoo. My feeling is if people are still discovering new issues that haven't been patched, it's probably too soon to release an upgrade.
And when people come down on Capcom, the reason is there's a difference in volume between its games receiving small content updates and others.
Capcom and ASW catch shit for what they do deservedly, because they do it so much more often than the others. Other companies don't release games with nearly the volume that Capcom and ASW do, and the KOF and Tekken games had completely new fighting systems, modes, and an assload of new characters every time they came out. Is there a new Mortal Combat every year? A new King of Fighters? A new Melty Blood? A new Soul Calibur? A new Tekken? No, not even close. Each game in those series are generally huge upgrades.
And the model that has always existed for fighting games (buy a new console version) isn't a necessary one anymore because of the advent of online modes. You can download your upgrades now. In other games, balance patches come free - it's only in fighting games that they don't. Blazblue CS II had all the extra characters for CS available as DLC, but gave you the game's balance patch FOR FREE. MK9, same thing. DLC characters, free balance patches! That's incredibly fair.
Capcom catches shit because what it does is so shady - if other companies did it, they would too. Other companies don't lie about what they can do with basic features or DLC and then implement it in a mandatory purchase.
SSFIV was a humongous upgrade to an already complete game, so no one had any complaints. AE was four characters, two of which were purposefully made overpowered (and they admit this!) to force players to buy the game AND the balance patch with it in order to stay competitive.
Oh and by the way, I say "mandatory purchase" but as I only buy a game if, as you say, I'm really going to get some value out of it, I have bought neither AE or CSII's characters, nor will I buy UMvC3 – so I can very deservedly talk shit about getting my money's worth or not being swindled out of it on "mandatory purchases." When a company releases a game that is not up to my standard, I don't buy it.
Capcom made promises with regards to MvC3 which they all abandoned to release an upgrade before the year was even out. That's an extremely small window to release another game in, especially when new glitches are still being discovered weekly in the old one. Admittedly they had circumstances. But of course, folks forgive them because they got a character dangled in front of their face. Ultimate Marvel 3 was the game we should have gotten. Yet even in this we're told they're not including some characters and features because they want to release it this year rather than next. How is that not a problem?
When SNK released the notoriously incomplete KoFXII, they got SLAMMED for it and have labored long and hard on making KoFXIII worthy to its fanbase.
I don't see why Capcom shouldn't be held to the same standard of accountability.
Nor why saying something about it should be wrong?
-
Full panel shown clear video of the Heroes and Heralds mode and Spider-Man and Felicia new colors.
Sad they took the green away but the red looks real good.
-
I very much agree with Gekko.
I like I said, I never hated MvC3. I was disappointed in it. I liked the roster, even without the characters I'd like to be in it. The game was promoted with a cinematic aura of awesome, with it's epic trailers and reveals. But when you got the game…..that was it. There was nothing else to it. Arcade mode, and then you fought your friends and random people. Yes, you can easily say that, "Well, it's a fighting game. What do you expect?" Well, I expect more. I expect a strong delivery. I expect what other fighting games have been giving me for a while. Say it was an experiment all you want. You released a product meant to provide entertainment that disappointed several others. Accept that people were disappointed.
Now, my issue with buying UMvC3 isn't the fact that I don't have the money to buy. Believe me, I have the money. I'm just unsure whether or not I want to give to Capcom. I've been really disappointed in what they've been doing lately, and not just with UMvC3. The cancellation of MML3 and poor effort with Resident Evil Mercenaries 3DS really bugged me, especially when other game developers were coming out with far superior games. Like I said, I have the money to pay for UMvC3. I'm just not sure if I want Capcom to personally have it. At this moment in time, I'd rather buy a used copy.
And to be perfectly honest, I actually like the look of Heroes vs Heralds. It honestly looks like fun and something I'd enjoy playing.
The question is: will it deliver and really be worth it?

QFT, especially about KOFXII. So much backlash that game had cause. lol
Honestly, I knew that was gonna happen and it did…BIG TIME!

Sad they took the green away but the red looks real good.
1. Kinda of wish they didn't have so many 'black + color' costumes, but I honestly haven't been paying any attention to Spidey lately. These costumes could be completely awesome, and I just don't know it.
2. I love how many people cheered over the mere mention of Felicia. I'm glad she has fans. She's a great character.
3. Kinda disappointed by Felicia's costume selection. Granted, I generally used the 'black and pink' costume (have I ever mentioned that I love chicks with pink or purple hair?), but there are about four costumes with white fur, and a set color for hair.
4. Seeing the full poster now: Captain Commando is dead, and Rogue is apprehended. Oh Rogue…you'll always have a place in my heart, where we do nothing but make southern food. Also, they are so fucking brewing the hype with that Megaman. Honestly, I don't know whether they should deliver or not.
5. Ending scene: Morrigan vs Doctor Strange was one of the sexiest things I've ever seen.
6. Wesker vs Phoenix make a close second place in that.
7. Deadpool vs Phoenix Wright was a bit underwhelming, but that's just me. They could have done something funnier.Has footage been shown of the new Danger Room stage? I'd love to see the X-Men camoes they have.
-
^If you read the latest ones the Armor spidey was made since he
! lost his spider-sense so he cant go casual when fighting
Also his red/green and blue suit allows him to go invisible and soundless.
Oh they know we want MegaMan so Im sure we will pay to get him.
And ya they showed the new Danger room and it just has so far Prof X in the window watching.

Parries are back. Fuck it… This game will be epic
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Sorry..: As I learned parries are only a abilty for a special mode... Damn it
-
It's his own mode as you fight characters upon characters.
"additional Vita functionality" was teased but not announced.
All DLC shared across PS3, Vita.
Q: DLC characters?
A: No plans now.Q: Next event/reveal?
A: Before too long.Q: Is Mega Man poster a troll?
A: Yes.Q: Why remove blocking during airdashes?
A: Makes zoning more effective. You have to commit to airdashes now.Q: New endings for old characters?
A: A few have been changed, many are the same.Q: Is Galactus playable?
A: Yes.-________-
Nice to see my apprehension was well founded. No game for me! -
I'm not mad at Capcom for the whole Ultimate thing because simply, I've just learned to expect this out of them by now.
Every SF since 2 has had at least one revision.
Also, isn't the story that a lot of what is going into Ultimate was going to be done through patches and DLC, but the Earthquake caused such a delay that they reasoned that they may as well just do a new on-disc release?
I have no problem with this. But as I could only get 9 bucks for my Limited edition if I were to try to trade it in, I'm gonna buy Ultimate and put the disc into my Limited case (with the original disc in a slip-sleeve with the Instruction booklets) and call my copy of the game complete lol.
-
HQ of the Heroes and Heralds video
Also people doubting P.Wright look at this :O
-
Ken isn't at the poster… DLC Characters are not planned... And now he isn't even a damn card in this game... Capcom seriously do not care about him
-
^They haven't released the whole card list and he will mostly likely be a card.
DLC characters wont be mentioned until they see the sales and see if they would add more characters which they are im sure :/ it will be the 8 characters they werent able to add.
-
I want to se phoenix wright defeating Galactus, putting him in SPACE JAIL.
-
The Heroes and Heralds mode looks pretty cool. I imagine I'm going to spend a lot of time in that mode.
-
As good as the Phoenix Wright may have performed in that previous video, his opponent was ass. Seriously, did he drop a combo after two hits with Sentinel while under X-Factor. That's pretty scary.
-
Doom assist and opponent was, as Side said, ass: How do you drop a grab–->rocket punch--->super with Sentinel.
Edit: Wrights tracking projectile looks annoying though: Strange, Wright and Phoenix teams day one.
Edit 2: Playing KOS and watching Seasons Beatings got me hype about Marvel again. I still will not buy this new but I probably will get it sooner rather than later.
-
Seriously. I don't even main Sentinel, and I nearly screamed at his failure to use his super. He had four levels!
-
He could've spammed super and chipped.
-
At eventhubs the card are listes now… Damn it... Like I thought. They hate Ken
-
At eventhubs the card are listes now… Damn it... Like I thought. They hate Ken
1. It's not a complete list.
2. Just because a character is not playable or is a card does not mean Capcom hates them…......Capcom does hate Megaman, however. And children. And innocence. And Disney World. And black people.
3. Stop expecting Ken.
4. I like Ken.
5. This isn't Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (which was a horrible game). This is Marvel vs Capcom. While Ken is recognized as a popular Capcom character, you have to realize the required diversity in the cast of characters. Ryu and Chun-Li are shoe-ins simply because one is the star of the series, and the other is Fighting Game's First Lady. C. Viper represents the new generation of Street Fighters, and Akuma is the entire reason Marvel vs Capcom exists. Notice how none of the characters added were Street Fighter characters. While I love Street Fighter, we already have Street Fighter X Tekken on the way, and Ken is already there.
6. Become like me, and start praying for X-Men vs Street Fighter 2. Every time you wish for Ken, I can't help but notice all the X-Men characters I'm wishing for.Now about the cards:
-They gave Daken a card. Ugh.....I'm sorry. I hate Daken.
-Captain Commando card. (sad face)
-Spider Ham XD
-Poor Nightcrawler. You didn't even have a chance.
-Who's Clea?
-Cyclops.....thank god.
-Roll (I know you're reading this, and having the time of your life with the sight of that card)
-Lilith ^_^
-X (keep trollin, trollin, trollin)
-Leon S Kennedy (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA! OH THANK GOD!)I really like this. It pays tribute to a lot of characters who never could make it into a fighting game in the first place. Like Scarlet Witch. Love the character, but never in a fighting game.

Looks at cards
Is Capcom asking me if I'm happy yet?
In a sarcastic manner?
Again? -
Fuck Capcom.
Again.
Seriously.
-
Oh, I think the game is still ass, but this is far more effort than I honestly thought they'd give.
-
Oh, I think the game is still ass, but this is far more effort than I honestly thought they'd give.
Actually this thing might've been intended for the original: Remember when Capcom said that Marvel had given them "full access to the Marvel library"? Originally everyone thought this meant Marvel characters in endings but now it looks like cards….........What makes me think it was in the original? Again, remember when people opened the disc up and it had Doc Ock and Frank West but they were nowhere to be found? Frank West was scrapped originally so he was probably gonna be featured as a card alongside the also scrapped Doc Ock and others.
-
You're probably right.
Is it really that bad to delay the game so they can add more? Skull Girls did it, and I don't see anyone freaking out about it. I'm certainly not.
-
You're seriously comparing the fanbase of MvC to the fanbase of Skull Girls?
…
Jesus.
I mean, I'm all for waiting longer (I play Blizzard games for God's sake...) for a much polished and complete product, but that comparison is wonky.
-

Not comparing the fanbases. Simply saying that people won't freak out if they actually took their time with these games. Remember the hype we all had, freaking out over each trailer that came out? Imagine if that were longer, had more trailers, and had more characters (including the ones were getting for UMvC3 and maybe more) coming into the fray.
-
I remember it was originally slated for like June or July so with those extra months of development it would've made a big difference.

-No complaints on Captain Americas costumes. All of them are awesome. However, I do wish they had a costume resembling the movie costume, but what can you do… I'm sure they aren't allowed to anyway.
-Seriously, they are so lazy with the Capcom costume explanations. I mean, I understand the blue, but...
-That looks NOTHING like Cody. Not even close. Even saying that Cody was a reference, I don't fucking see it.
-So now we have TWO black costumes? Ugh...Can't we do something like... A red color scheme. Even if it doesn't look amazing, we could have so fucking variety. Give him a red shirt and brownish/red hair like his sister. Better than having two black costumes.
-And the final Chris costume just depresses me. I mean, it looks good and it looks like the character, but......he should have been in this fucking game a million times more than....you know who (no, not Phoenix Wright, it should be pretty obvious who I mean). -
A video rundown of how to play as Phoenix Wright and Iron Fist:
-
-That looks NOTHING like Cody. Not even close. Even saying that Cody was a reference, I don't fucking see it.

Most of the DLC costumes in MvC3 weren't just recolors, but actual costumes.
If Capcom REALLY wanted Chris Redfield to look like Cody, they could've gone above and beyond and produced an actual costume instead of a simple color swap and saying "THIS IS BASED ON CODY LULZ!"
Cuz man… those are really sad for Chris.
At least Captain America's ALL look badass.
-
I fucking love the Marvel costumes. Seriously, this entire game has been:
"Holy shit, the Marvel characters and costumes look great!"
"Why is the Capcom stuff so lack luster, except for Strider's inclusion and Zero's costumes?"While I'm not a fan of any of the Marvel characters, they all look amazing. Especially Dr. Strange and Hawkeye. Meanwhile, I find Nemesis and Vergil to be boring, Firebrand to be meh, Strider to be awesome but fail compared to MvC2 or 3, and Frank West to be a crappy choice.
…...I'm sorry, I still don't find PW interesting. He's a great character, just not an interesting moveset in my eyes. Call me a hater all you want. Again, PW is a great game.
-
To be fair, PW couldn't really be made into a more interesting fighter.
Unless I missed the game where he learned to shoot Hadokens from Ryu.
But for a "joke" character he seems to hold his own quite well.
-
For a joke character, Phoenix Wright seems really damn dangerous.
I mostly agree with Insider except Vergil looks really cool and I'm looking forward to Frank West (especially if he plays like his TvC counterpart). Otherwise I am inclined to agree Capcom's side has been a little weaker than Marvel's.
-
I would have rather they made another PW game then put PW in UMvC3.
-Vergil, eh. I'm sorry, I don't find him all that interesting. I don't think he's as bad as Nemesis, though, and I fucking adore Nemesis. Watching him play is making me want to play RE3 and not UMvC3. I won't say that Vergil plays like Dante, because I do see a difference. However, I still don't find him that interesting.
-Frank West…My biggest issue is that Chuck would make such a better fighting character. Chuck could use a moose head (charge attack), paddle saw (super), light saber, fireworks, knife boxing gloves, and other awesome shit. I know Frank has the 'Real Mega Buster', but.......just put Megaman in. Just do it Capcom. Honestly. -
-
Frank West's real megabuster is gone… you know what that means.... SQUEE
(just hopeful)
Also.. Rocket Racoon looks amazing!
-
Frank West seems…okay. His supers weren't nearly as ridiculous and over the top as they were in TvC, which I am saddned by, but overall he's looked more refined. So I'm interested in taking him for a ride. I did like how his level 3 was basically a combination of his Level 1 grab and the Level 3 supers from TvC, but it seemed a little underwhelming.
I'm probably going to get flack for this since I know jack about comics, and in particular Rocket Raccoon who I've never even heard of until this game, but Rocket Raccoon looks really retarded. At least to me. I completely admit I could be wrong about this and I'll still try him out, but he just seems really...dumb.
