Hyozo will sober up and drug up and be a more treatening opponent.
Chapter 642: Losing Face
-
-
The three Princes beat all of the Fishman Pirate Officers including Hyouzou while they were drugged up on one ES.
Uh, What?
No the three Princes all lost to the fishman pirate officers when they fought them drugged up. They LOST to the princes when they hadn't taken any drugs. Hyouzou, never fought them non drugged up, only with drugs.
-
A skilled swordsman like Hyouzou doesn't seem like he should be losing quite this badly. I mean I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that maybe Zoro was already cut/poisoned without knowing it? I mean for weaker swordsmen yes, but I can't see the stronger ones being easily poisoned, which is something Hyouzou is obviously known for. Perhaps he waits for his opponent to charge him and utilizes stealthy counterattacking to cut and poison them without them knowing. This to me would be a great fighting style for Hyouzou, who seems to be sort of a 'drunken master' himself which relies heavily on off balanced unorthodox movement to strike. The poison would definitely level the playing field a bit more for the fight seeing as Zoro should definitely be able to handle Hyouzou similar to how Luffy is dealing with Hody imo.

Is this what you guys want though. You want Zoro to get poisoned and get a major handicap in order to level the playing field and have a decent fight?
Why? Why cripple a main character in order to see him fight on par with a much weaker opponent? Why not just wait till later when a worthy opponent arrives.

well I'd rather have an actual fight then daha your to weak for me, if luffy hadn't acknowledged hyozo as a strong fighter, and now he's several levels above that I don't see a reason he couldn't have at least put up a semi interesting fight
obviously zoro wasn't going to lose we knew that but one attack breaks all his swords, seems stupid to me
-
If it hasn't been said already:
Zoro's far away in the spread because he's lost.
I believe he's looking at a map -

Would you rather see Luffy v. Hody 2.0 featuring swords? Idk I mean I think we all clearly get that the SH's are stronger now with how they're tearing through the NFP. Hyouzou/Zoro was the fight I was looking forward to most because it wasn't going to be the same trouncing as the other fights. Hyouzou had the ability to block an attack from Luffy, meaning at worst he would at least be some kind of match for him (even if it would be a quick one) and we know how strong Zoro is (often referred to as 'almost as strong as Luffy'). To me it was the best shot we had in this arc at seeing a good, even fight, even though Luffy/Hody is not necessarily bad, it just turned out to be more tactical than physical.
-
Just because Luffy said Hyouzou was strong, it doesn't mean that person would be strong enough to pose a problem to him. In comparison to the two people he was with, he certainly was strong and generally speaking, Hyouzou is indeed powerful. But let's not take it completely out of proportion.
Besides, as I said before, we can still take some entertainment out the battles without our main characters having to work extremely hard to beat opponents that aren't even in the New World.

Imagine back in Water 7, Luffy vs. Franky.
I imagine Luffy would say Franky was strong in that quick bout they had.
Now imagine Zoro vs. Franky fighting for real. Zoro would trounce him.

Here they eat the pills before battle.
Here we are told that they still beat them, but they all chomped down on another set.
Unless I'm missing something here….

I felt they were talking about how aweseome the princes did against the sea beast
Cause if the princes were truly overpowering them until they ate ANOTHER then how come I don't even see a scratch on ANY of the fishman pirates?
-
I'd say I'm dissappointed in Hyozou's fight, but it's not like he couldn't find 9 more swords in this battlefield. I look forward to seeing what this octopus does next.
-
Seems to me like he's going to have to find a high quality sword or the same thing's going to happen again. Best case scenario he busts one out and gets serious, showing what the hype was all about and not making him a waste of a character, but I guess that's unlikely as hell.

Its NOT the swords.
Zoro fought Mr. 1 with the same swords the ENTIRE battle. How come he never cut him until the end? Did his sword become more powerful as the battle went on? Did his sword become sharper as the battle waged. NO. A true swordsman can cut steel with the dullest of blades, and also NOT cut a person with the sharpest of blades.

That would seem a bit weird though. I wouldn't think that the citizens would place higher danger priority with the sea beasts than the actual Fishman Pirates themselves. And as for the scratches, I don't know. The ES do revitalize but I that's another story altogether. That argument, wasn't my main point. Hyouzou can still provide some interesting displays with his swordsmanship (as soon as he gets some new ones) style even if he isn't a match for Zoro. Same goes for the other New Fishman Pirates.

You know that hyozou hasnt lost yet. He is the strongest of the NFP and it will be shown. His persona or skitz is being alcoholic and attacking people at random, not really thinking or taking the surrounding area serious. He was asleep during all of Hodis speeches, and he attacked his comrades and enemies. If he is the one Hacchan is talking about and I believe he is, this will make him get serious and we'll get some of his back story ( I honestly believe so as he was for some reason entirely skipped in the flashback).
And in the end he has had one distinctive sword, and a lot of fodder swords. My theory is that all of them were destroyed except that one. -
Someone who isn't lazy: Can you look at a raw of the chapter where Luffy fights Mihawk at Marineford? I vaguely recall Mihawk saying Luffy was in range, just wondering if…what was it... first page...kekkai, was used then too.

What are you talking about? I was addressing why Hyouzou's swords broke. Because they are low quality. Zoro will just keep cutting any regular old steel swords he comes at him with (I am assuming, which shouldn't be very controversial, he can not use Haki to strengthen them). But if Hyouzou is unexpectedly packing a really high quality sword, like those of Zoro himself, he's not going to be able to cut that up. That was my point.
-
I don
t see a point in weakening Hyouzou that much with the end of the chapter for us readers, just to see him later go berserk. He sure still isn
t defeated and has his poison, but Zoro isn`t the kind of guy who judges his opponents that wrong after fighting them for a while. -

And why should Zoro not be able to cut them?
Back in Thriller Bark Zoro's excellent swords almost broke fighting Brook's shadow. And I guarantee that if Zoro's Wado sword wasn't protected by plot armor, it would have broke when fighting Mihawk, back in Baratie.

Luffy said that Hyozou must be pretty strong back in ch 610: http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/610/4 - unless it was a mistrans (which seems to have happened a lot). That, or Luffy could have been being overly cocky back then. Zoro might have picked up on Mihawk's arrogance during training as well. XP
I'll hold out that Hyozou isn't done just yet. His swords are, however, and I enjoyed the fact that they got destroyed vertically by Zoro. Too EPIC!

I imagine that after the Franky fight Luffy could have easily said, "he is strong"
Now look at the scene where Franky tried fighting Lucci. Just by being strong doesn't mean they are in anyones league.

/boredatworkNo, he used 射程 (shatei), meaning range of a shot. 結界 (kekkai) refers to a zone or field within an intangible barrier. They are a bit similar in this context though.
-
Cool to see Robin might get a fight! If it's against Hammond it will be the most one-sided fight in the arc must still better than nothing! So that leaves Nami with Caribou for sure now !
-

That was compared to Hammond and the other guy.
By that we readers were indicated that Hyouzou is on another strenght level - directly spoken one of the fighting forces of the NFP(and not just one canon NFP).
Dont get me wrong, i also saw Hyouzou as the only strong guy able to show us a fight where his opponent has a hard time…but this chapter is damn obviously indicating us that this won
t be the case. -

no it was a technique ryuuma did it . to brake swords . and back there ryuuma had Shūsui , now zoro own it .
http://www.mangareader.net/103-2574-4/one-piece/chapter-467.htmlfinally it's impassible that zoro will learn to use haki so vast , i mean , assume that zoro was training with mihawk for a year how could he manage to armor his swords unless mihawk imbue them . that if mihawk know how to use Busoshoku Haki , i don't think he can use it the scene with buggy was very confident.
-
And why should Zoro not be able to cut them?

Because they're high quality swords that are extremely hard to destroy. Shuusui is supposedly indestructible if I recall correctly. Is the concept of Zoro not being able to cut up a graded, world-famous sword like he did some random fodder swords too implausible for you?
Ryuuma used techniques specifically designed to break weapons, though. Still if you want to take that at face value, then Zoro absolutely 100% must have CoA Haki at this point, since otherwise his swords would break as soon as he got into fight with a remotely strong opponent with a graded sword of his own. Point is we probably should not assume that very high quality swords can be destroyed all willy-nilly because of the Ryuuma fight.

But not unbreakable. Do I think that if Hyouzou somehow had 9 supreme grade swords that Zoro would have cut them all in half? Hell no, but wouldn't be surprised if he had cut a few. He obviously was trying to cut the swords and not just randomly attacking. You don't just randomly cut 9 swords in half vertically, you have to be trying to do that. So Zoro was TRYING to cut the swords.
He had been fighting Hyouzou for a while before this and didn't break any of his swords until just now? WHY, because he wasn't trying to cut his swords. I'm not trying to argue over what grade Zoro would cut, I"m just trying to get you guys to understand that you don't just accidently cut swords in half when you become a skilled swordsman. This was first hinted at back in whiskey peak when Zoro was upset at his "cursed sword" for cutting something that zoro didn't want to cut. A sword should only cut what its weilder wills it to cut. THis was later emphasized again when fighting mr. 1 in how he had that flashback with his sensei and how he DIDN'T cut a branch, yet easily sliced a bolder in half all with the same sword. It was because he willed it, he wanted to cut that bolder and he wanted to not cut the branch.
I don't believe that Zoro accidently cut those 9 swords in half vertically. I feel he did that on purpose and even if they were all supreme grade he could still break them. Sure they might not have broke in his first attempt, but say he did that sword cutting move 3-4 times, the sword would break eventually.
-
A great chapter! Zoro was a beast, yet again!
His badassness is too much for me to handle! _
Can't wait for the next chapter! :D -

@ Kish
I like how u support Hody as nakama again. Sum time ago u thought Jinbe would join. IDK if Hody could join the SHs. Luffy would have to make a CoC-special-haxpower-brainwashin-blast to make Hody redeemed.
The thing why I doubt that Hody is Tiger's son is following:
In the FB where the NFP "kids" cheered up their heroes, the sun pirates, Hody wasn't acting like he is Tiger's son.
Maybe he was an orphan and found out later that he is Tigers son, but when he was 14 or 15 he didn't seem like he is his son.
Watch this:
http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/622/5
from that page, do u think Hody seems like he is his son?
If he already knew that in that time he "hid" it very well.I also have an idea why people think that Hody is a "lame" villain:
In the great war we have met a lot of super upper badass villains like Akainu, BB, Doflamingo or also the tenryuubito.
And after this 2-yrs-TS fans looked 4ward to an arc-villain of the same league as the people above.
IMO Hody is a fitting villain. He is cruel (even to his own men) he killed Otohime and blamed sumone else 4 it, and after VDD threw Noah @ FI, he thought sth like:
"Ok, whatever, lets destroy that island by the way."
He is not an over super upper badass villain, but a fittin villain for this arc.Quote from Wiki: According to Dracule Mihawk, Luffy has the most dangerous ability in the world; that of turning anyone around him into his allies, including former enemies.
-
well in the defence of Hyouzou i say that he isn't serious at all,he didn't even fight with the sword that he showed in ch 610 that i think that is his main sword and he is really drunk and druged,i think he really is the number 2 in the island and is going to put a decent fight.
-

battleshades robin is the best robin i've ever seen. i hope its a regular thing.
-
the sunglasses could be a part of her up grade. some of her abilities she would close her eyes, in order to see else where. maybe it used as a diversion so enemies can't see her eyes are shut

If he isn't serious why the "OHSHITOHSHIT!!" face?
He may be able to poison Zoro, but he'll be screwed even so.
-
So Neptune is like depressed and wants to die… ehh not gonna happen. Robin looks good with her shades on I really want to see her fight since we never get to see her fight even before the time-skip. And what was jimbei hitting?(Wadatsumi's fist?)
-
Hinscher i'm with you all the way. Anyone else against his/her super well thought out argument has no sense or understanding of the story what so ever.
-
Not a bad chap, wonderful colorspread. Always love it when Oda gets surreal
Liked I figured we moved back to the SH fights. Was nice to see the citizens rally behind the SH and stay for their princess. Now if they joined the battle then things would get more interesting. As it is now, most of this chapter was just reactions at the news and what not. It does a good job of keeping the stakes high though. And hey at least the SH have backup now.
LOL I see what you did there Sanji, and that is why he is one of the smartest people in the series. Hammond finally rejoins us after 30 plus chapters, I do like the hypocrisy shown. Showing that yeah, they're just continuing the cycle rather then trying to break it. Jinbe's reaction was understandable and I'd like that, like Tiger, he won't cast a blind eye to this idiocy even if freeing the slaves may backfire. Good man. Don't know why Robin suddenly donning the sunglasses, but I know one of you is just itching to make a CSI Miami reference, DON'T SAY THAT YOU'RE NOT! She does look cool in them though.
More Franky nonsense which doesn't seem to go anywhere. Chopper's new form, uh…wow. I guess I'll get used to it over time but that is way too much bulk. I really hope theres a secondary slimmer form to that. And Zoro showing off more badassery. Standard but I love it. Guess next week were either back to Luffy, showcasing what Nami, Ussop and Brook battles, or a little bit of both. Either way these fights should be reaching their ends soon.
-EDIT-
I just realized the contrast to the Arlong arc. The villiagers rallied to with the SH against Arlong and now the Fishman citizens are doing the same in this one. Way to callback Oda. -
A lot of people in this thread mentioned Sanji was trolling wadatsumi… and I just HAD to do this!!
!
-
i think we will not see a chapter for each match up like before. obviously because NFP's are no match for the SHs. we will just see glimpse of SHs' new skills and that's it.

he is strong but not strong enough, or he is strong but SHs are much much stronger than them. someone saying another is strong does not mean they're on par w/ each other. hyozou fans are in denial mode lol. you guys expected so much but in the end, got crushed by zoro heh.
we are not yet in the NEW WORLD part. i'll be disappointed if they already struggle here (fighting fishmen) rather than fighting new world people. the 2 years training is for the new world right? i really bet that new world pirates are much stronger than fishmen.
-

Awesome troll face xD
-
Since Robin seems to be fighting Hammond, I predict that Hiccup (yes, Skadi, I've long since accepted that name, but it's sweet of you to point it out again ) will make another appearance (since he was barely seen, but part of the "original trio" of NFP) and fight Nami.
-
Zoro fought Mihawk and those baboons for the last 2 years training. Of course other swordmans other than mihawk feels like nothing for him. Stop complaining.

Eearly concepts like the original SHs and so on. Maybe he will appear in a future arc but surely not suddenly now… If yes, he should bring up some other opponents as well and not that fodder. But it would be somehow cheap if suddely other villians will step up

I agree with u there.
If Zoro can cut through any sword he wants to, he could have cut Kaku's.
And the reason why Wadashimaru didn't break @Baratie against Mihawk is because its a king sword, just like the Shuusui.
IMO kings' and dragon swords cannot be cut or destroyed "just by will".
Hyozo 4 sure has his own sword unbroken. He underestimated Zoro, but now he finds out that he has to pull more to have a chance. He'll drink more booze and gets a drunken sword master. Thats a swordstyle Zoro hasn't met yet in the story, maybe it'll be hard 4 Zoro to dodge those drunken, unpredictable moves.
@ least I hope so.
Of course Hyozo should be no real match for post TS Zoro, but I hope that Hyozo will not be just fodder that cannot even kill Zoros boredom. -
For now we haven't seen any of the steroid drugged fishmen go down.
