Wonder Woman 2 was great, but I am really annoyed they use the name "Strife" for Eris. I get that Eris in Greek means discord/ strife, but that doesn't mean her name should be changed. Plus it removes the similar nature of Ares and Eris as they are close brother and sister. I always liked WW but never really read her books. Did they always call her the much more bland name of Strife? I just feel that it comes off weaker. Perhaps I'm being too much of a mythology nerd.
I enjoyed Batman 2. Lots of Wayne family lore was a nice touch. The Owls idea is interesting. See what they do with it. Can't decide if Lincoln seems sinister or not. Something ofabout him. Nightwing as a suspect stil needs more resolution, too.
Red Hood 2 was enjoyable. I like Jason and actually hope to get another view of his past while training under Ducra. The idea that she trained him to release his vengeance could lead to an interesting shift for him. Arsenal being annoying to everyone was nice, but Starfire was just wallpaper again. She wasn't used so much as a pin-up as last issue, but she only got a small portion of focus and very little dialogue. I am interested in how this moves forward.
On a side note, though, this issue said it has been a year and a half since Jason was brought back to life with the Lazarus pit. If Justice League takes place 5 years in the past and Batman was still mostly unknown [many of the characters have noted they were unsure if he actually existed], then I would assume he had not taken Dick in as his first Robin yet at that time. So in the DCnU, over the course of only 3 1/2 years, Bruce takes in Dick, trains him, has Dick grow up and leave to become Nightwing, takes in Jason, trains him, Jason grows older and more reckless, Joker kills Jason, Bruce mourns for a period, takes in Tim, then Jason is brought back? It seems really rushed. They need to release some sort of DCnU official timeline to tell us not only what events do still count, but also key events like that. Again, probably overthinking stuff, but that struck odd to me.
Justice League 2 was alright. The team is coming together and the Darkseid reveal is slowly coming. I'm pretty surprised that the GL rings have no knowledge of Darkseid and Apokolips whatsoever. Wonder Woman popping up should be interesting, and the interview segment in the back seems to touch on her coming to the mortal world from Paradise Island when the pilot crash landed there. And I loved the mention of Shazam. Can't wait for the Shazam back-up stories to begin in issue 5. Heck, that's pretty much the only reason I'm sticking with JL, I won't miss Captain Marvel storylines in a book and I don't want to have missed large portions by dropping in at number 5.
I love the Spider Island storyline. Fantastic stuff going on there. Especially the Shang Chi: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu and Cloak and Dagger 3-parters. I am very excited to finish those next week. Gotta say, Spider Island is much better than Fear Itself for me. I will admit, I really did enjoy the Spider-Man and X-Force Fear Itself tie-in 3-parters.
I'm not sure what X book I want to go with now that Schism has ended. I have enjoyed plain X-Men a lot, but the split could weaken the pool of characters. X-Force is a strong candidate, and I really like the Dark Angel Saga going on, but I doubt I stick around with it afterwards since I only looked at it for being about Archangel in the first place. Wolverine and the X-Men looks good, and I like the artist working on it. I know I won't touch Uncanny X-Men or X-Factor for sure, though.
FF has been solid. I've enjoyed every issue, but I'm not sure what's going to happen with those alternate reality Reeds. Doom got captured a little too easily, and the Inhumans took out the others easily. Lots of ways it could still go.
Mighty Thor is another book I really like. I love the new character for Loki. Him as a child only liked by Thor makes for interesting ideas, and Volstagg makes me laugh at every turn. I am interested in how the Surfer will continue to play into the storylines in this book and if he will be involved in other Earth stories now, since he apparently still has all of his very high power level, but will now become weaker the further he strays from Earth. I really should look into Journey into Mystery since I enjoy young Loki so much.
I have followed Captain America, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider since their new number 1s but am on the fence about keeping them.
Cap is fantastic, and I enjoy it, but there is something about it that I have always preferred Brubaker's stories in the trade.
Daredevil I like, but I'm not the hugest DD fan. The story is well done and I like that each issue has pretty much had a nice self-contained story, while still being a part of a moving storyline. Not the same villain for months. I would have dropped it if it hadn't been for Marcos Martin [my current favorite artist to see, his work has a feel of being simultaneously cutting-edge and retro, like it would fit in fine along with old issues from the sixties, but has this refinement that puts it comfortably in the present day. Not to mention he does some very interesting panel layouts.] being the artist. I just may pop in for Martin's issues alone.
Ghost Rider I just can't decide how I feel on. I like some of the things, but I haven't had anything really endear me to Alejandra yet, and Blaze is just smart-mouthing. It does seem to have some nice groundwork, and I hope to see some involvement of Danny Ketch as well.
