I've never been a fan of these poprocky bands, they just sound way too generic for me. Normally nothing in these kind of songs stands out, but in this one the drums caught my attention, they're pretty good and fit with the song. Also I found that the guitar is a bit too quiet, it'd probably be better if it was louder. Overall I find music like this pretty boring.

Bam! Nice one. Very in your face. I'll just go and use my youtube-downloader on them for a bit now :D
-
Time to kick this thread back up from beyond the grave.
This was a pretty nice piece. Poetry set to a industrial. The actual poetry seems kind of generic. The topic, word choice and flow don't really stand out, but the musical element gives it power. There's a certain heavy emptiness that works well with Gil's voice. The only element that felt off was the pure instrumental section towards the end, which I think ruined the flow of the song in no meaningful way. Still rather nice and, otherwise, pretty atmospheric.
-
Hmm, there's quite a bit going on in this song. There's some mellow atmospheric verses, a shrieking chorus, some vaguely emo subject matter (or maybe that's the pictures from the video talking) and, interestingly enough, some tongue-in-cheek self parody (although, I guess the name Dr. Seussicide should've been a good hint). The song was pretty good, I guess. I've made it no secret that I'm not really fond of people screaming into a microphone and calling it music, but this wasn't that bad. It had a good beat with the drums and guitar at any rate. And back to the emo-ness I mentioned earlier, well, I mean, I guess the song is really about not giving into that self-loathing suicidal emo crap ("What better way to put myself in my place?") so I guess the song has a good message. So yeah, I didn't hate it. I enjoyed the mellow verses, but it's not one I'll be uploading to my mp3 player or anything.
-
When the beginning started I knew I heard this song somewhere just from the first couple notes. When the guy started singing I started to remember the song. It's pretty famous right. I tell you out of most of the posters here I feel like I get into your songs the most. There are so many good things about this song. Love the guitar, drums, all the music of the song. The guys voice was so perfect for the song; it was soft but with a feeling of strength in it. The best part of the song for me was probably the lyrics. I mean you really don't get lyrics like this anymore. It was simple but said so much in them and really got you into the song.
-
The following is a video of a man reciting the Qur'an, I'm wondering what you guys think of it, since I'm assuming you've never listened to it before.
I've had people that said it sounds soothing, and some said it sounded like death  So feel free to share your thoughts

If you want you song rated, rate the one above you. That's how the game works. Even if you write Non Forced Listening
@ Hawkeye: Too short man. ^^ Though I just saw Against the Wall: Quality of life. So my contingent of Hip Hop is rather full for the time being. But the song was okay. It felt unfinished. Is it the intro to a longer song or something? Kinda hard for me to get into a song about making Hip Hop :P
All Greek mythology. Google Zeus and Callisto if you don't know what the heck is going on with the lyrics ^^
-
First 19 seconds were definitely rocking great, got me wanting more. The voice employed on this also makes it quite fresh, I don't hear the likes of it in the heavy metal I'm familiar with. Lyrics are also quite a nice touch too, great.. erm… imagery used? Pretty good song overall.
-
Creepy stuff, but not bad. Vocals kind of remind me of In the Air Tonight. Like the bassline. Favorite part of the song was around the 3 minute mark. Overall a pretty decent song. Nothing I would dance to, but still, very atmospheric and somewhat relaxing.
I'm trying to get more people into this guy, particularly Monkey Majik. -
Uh the voice, the song is all fine and chilled out but I really don't like the distorted voice. There's very few songs in which I can stand it. This is just a mild version so it was ok to listen to it a few times and review it but that will be it.
From the times before they called it Nu Metal:

Surprised to see this is what one calls Nu metal. I was expecting soemthing completely different, but I suck at genres in genral so you learn something new everyday And thta's what this thread is here for, eh?
At the beginning I was expecting something psychedelic until 13 seconds in. Extremely cool guitar riff that sets in, not too hard for my taste, the rapping reminds me of the prodigy in a good sense.
Didn't really like the part with the woman rapping/singing her little chorus though. Felt kinda stilted to almost feeling a bit unintentionally humorous. But liked it the more when she sang without lyrics, set a great mood which made me like the part from 4:00 to 4:45 a lot. It's a bit softer, without feeling slow. So it doens't really go for a clear contrast to the rest, but just a really fitting nice change of pace. Like it.LOL looks like you changed the song, just as I was reviewing it…Yay for my shitty timing!
Let me do it again ;)This time around I was rather fond of the female singers part, feels a bit more mature than the previous song of theirs. I'd say it comes a bit later in their disography?
All in all I especially like the lyrics a bit more. They don't have this "rebel for the sake of rebeling* vibe to them this time around and go with a more gloomy atmosphere, I can relate to more.A rather experimental vid I re-discovered.
It's really cool to see what a guy can do with just a couple of snippets from youtube and some good timing.[hide]
-
Haha, sorry. I switch songs often this time round I was caught! :P Both tracks are from their debut album album from 1994. :D
Genres are just names. And with a band like Senser it's really hard to put them in one anyway. -

[hide]That was unexpectedly brilliant! Seriously that was really good, had to add it to my favorites. Thanks for sharing Tigerlilly!!
Here is a song from one of my favorite bands right now, they are singing in Spanish,
lyrics are posted below just in case:Lyrics:
[hide]Las larvas salvajes,
Se alegran al verme
Yo conozco bien,
Su sed insaciable
Oh larvas salvajes,

This is surprisingly win. . . .
(oh yeah the stuff above in Spanish is win, reminds me of a Mexican rock band I used to listen to in high school, I think they were called Mana or something. . .)
The second video is just great, its amazing how the guys voice goes from Bieber to. . .Metal in the same Bar.
-
I had to google Christine O'Donnell. Man, you have a problem with your female politicians over there. I now know four and three of them suck. :D I'm not really into American right wing politics so the song doesn't do much for me. So I listened without the video and found it rather bland. Not bad but there's nothing really exiting about it. It just plays. Second one has funny lyrics going for it, his voice goes to good for a brief moment indeet. The rest is as you said not so good.
Starts at 1:15. If you hate it with passion you can stop at 7:00. If you like it go the double lenght and up to 14:00. The rest is for the pros! In the unlikely event that you are not fluent in Latin, here's a translation and the orginal for the singstars amog you ^^ http://www.northshorechoral.org/seasons/05-06/CarminaBuranaTextandTranslation.pdf
P.S. If you dislike the womans setting in at 45 min as much as me, skip ahead to 1:03:00.

DUDE! Carmina Burana is a CLASSIC! . . .
. . .When I first heard it in uni I went all Music Nerd rage-I was a music major in uni(piano performance) and I Memorized the words. . .
.. . . . . . . .
and sang along with it on my cd player (before Ipods came out)anyway, yeah I figured you'd get a laugh out of christine odonnell's spoof song. . .
she really is a retard though, she was trying to walk off an interview but instead had her pr person block the camera and was trying to figure out whether to leave or not LOL she looked liek a deer in headlights. . .but yeah I was really suprised at the sudden change to METAL VOICE SINGING, then back to beiber lol. . .well more like 'lol wut'?
Let me put some serious sounds here now. . .first is my Favorite Jazz song by Yusef Lateef (arranged from a movie)i
This was in his eastern sounds album which pretty much had a lot of it sampled by Nujabes. . .seriously, but Nujabes did such a good job at it that hey I didnt care lol
Next Vid is some electronic dance music the original song is by a guy named Yoji who I met once and saw him perform a few times, the remix is done by a guy by the name of nhato. . .Im making an event with that guy as the guest DJ out here in Tokyo next month:
(I posted it in another thread but it got closed due to flaming by the op against…everyone else there lol)
-
First song- I couldn't help but smile at listening this song. Especially since I know the exact song Nujabes sampled this in. Really man, this is such a peaceful song. My mind is feels like all the stresses are leaving me. The piano, the flute, the drum, all of it works so well together. Really good choice in this one.
Second- Recently I've gotten more into electronic and dubstep so I'm starting to like music like this more. I really can't translate what I feel when I listening to songs like this. My mind just goes blank I feel like I am going through a trance. Just when i felt this song was getting little repetitious they changed it up. Enjoyed this song.
When choosing songs to post I usually go out the way to find something obscure so that people can experience something new, but sometimes I just like posting the classics. One of my favorite Hip Hop songs of all time.
-
(oh yeah the stuff above in Spanish is win, reminds me of a Mexican rock band I used to listen to in high school, I think they were called Mana or something. . .)
It's great you liked it, although it sounds nothing like Mana… except for the fact that both bands sing in Spanish.

Hahaha. . .. maybe that's it. . .I mean its been like. . .9 years since I last heard Mana. . . its the only thing that came close in my mind. . .

I remember that song by de la soul ;)
Ive heard lots of "old school rap" as I grew up in L.A. in a not so great neighborhood, I find it amazing that a lot of the stuff played on the radio and. . .STILL played on the radio today is considered classic stuff, pretty cool
for example, in September by earth wind and fire. . .that is played on the radio like once a day on SOME major station or another. even today (I haven't been back to L.A. in years but Im sure they still play that stuff)I dont listen to that anymore but sometimes if I wanna chill out Ill pop in some of those old school songs every now and then, theres a lot less going on usually musically so its easy to relax. . .kind alike nujabes …a bit
oh and there's another song on that album that nujabes sampled, Ill have to find that later though.
with EDM, I USED to LOVE it when I was in Junior high, but for some reason I just stopped listening to it, most likely I was afraid of being caught listening to it. . .being black and listening to trance as a high schooler in the ghetto. . . .that's just askin to get beat up. . .I did make good friends with the Valedictorian at my school so I loved to share my new music finds with her, unfortunately I couldn't share her smart brain power lols
Anyway Ive gotten back into EDM mostly by 'force' as I organize and DJ at edm events now. . .as I realized that top 40 clubs and events, especially in Japan can only get you so far. . .if you wanna make big parties, edm is the way to go. anyway Ive found that the edm genres are just mixing and mashing together a LOT. on genre that I HATED at first but Is now growing on me is something called "Tech-Dance" basically that Yoji guy that the other guy remixed in my last thread
invented the genre (at least thats what Im told...) but anyway I really thought it was boring untill. . . .This:
I had this guy play at my last event in June so I had to get acquainted with his music. . .but he's really good so it was fun haha. -
I tell you man, it's tough to critique dance music. I've heard people say that all EDM sounds the same, and of course they're wrong but I understand where they come from. Its tough to discern such fast rhythms that use similar beats, drums, and effects. I enjoyed the song quite a bit but it felt like any other EDM song till about 2:54. That's when I really got into the song. I kinda mellowed for a bit and then returned to the fast beat again, albeit the fast beat did feel a bit more gentler then the beginning. Good stuff.
-
Funny thing about hip-hop songs, a good deal of them seem to involve the lead vocalist singing at that very same rapidity and rhythm regardless of background instrumental music. See, the instrumentals seem to indicate a slower more somber tune, but the lead vocalist continues to rap away at that same relatively fast pace. And yet, it somehow doesn't seem all that disjointed. It just somehow works in its own way. The female vocalist was pretty good too, as she seemed to be more in tune with the mood of the song. As far as hip-hop songs go, I'll admit, this wasn't one of my favorites (I've heard better on this thread) but that's not to say it was bad. I just didn't find it all that remarkable, but it was still nice to listen to.
-
Wow, this brings back memories. I haven't listened to these guys for at least 4 or 5 years. I tell you, there really isn't anybody like them. They transition between gentle singing to screaming so rapidly that you'd thing the song would become disjointed but they've been doing it for so long that they've become masters at it. Really enjoyed this man. Short but really one of the metal bands that I actually would go out of my way to listen to.
Follow up to the song I posted the other day.
-
De La Soul is always smooth as butter. I love his voice, deep, slightly sad, just his voice seems to tell its own stories.
Together with the dog barking in the background I feel like I'm actually hanging around the streets with him while listeining to this, waiting for the day to end.The beat and the rythm make it all in all a very chill song for me, nice to sway into.I know your song was already commented on. But wow, I really freaking love that breakdown at 1:25 with the stuttering changes of the pitch and also that drifting part at 3:00. Lush track!
Next song, something a bit slower

Pretty relaxing song, but i enjoy more fast paced tunes like
-
Is that some kinda house? If yes you've picked the one genre that I have yet to find a song in that I like. If not it's the second genre I have yet to find a song in that I like. The sample playing in the background is rather boring and monotone. The undisorted vocals are ok but the distorted ones I don't like.
I'm not sure if the second part is supposed to be part song or not
-
Alright. The first part before the five minute mark is severely chill, something you could listen to for hours on end. Simple and beautiful. The four minute part of silence that follows is… Well. Silence. The third part, I find okay but not as good as the first part. The singing fits the song, not craving too much attention. All in all, not really my type of music but I'm still gonna check out some more songs of this group.
-
Well, that was…................something. I wasn't even sure if that was really music at first, but yeah, apparently this Alva Noto guy is a musician. Well, it's definitely distinct if nothing else. I mean, I don't think you can get much more experimental or avant-garde than this. As for the actual music, well....I guess it was as well-crafted as a series of clicks and dronings can be, but I guess I just don't understand its purpose. I mean, I don't know under what circumstances a person would listen to this. It doesn't invoke any emotion or adrenaline like a rock, hip-hop, or heavy metal song would. I guess it's atmospheric then? I suppose a person would listen to this if they wanted to relax or go into a meditative state. Well, at any rate, I won't be putting this "song" on my mp3 player or anything, but it certainly was a unique listening experience.
-
@Sarfallet: well that was definitely interesting hahaha But I have to admit I got too impatient to listen to all of it.
@Nobodyman: For me this song is brazil in a nutshell
I immediately picture the Copacabana in my mind when I hear this and it has that south american fire in it.
Loving that lively cheeky piano. The singers voice and the meldoy are smooth as hell.
I'd call it a classic.Next one is probably in danger of sounding monotonous as hell to some, but it gets spiced up half way through.
[hide] -
As a big fan of instrumental music I found this one quite relaxing. I could see why you said that it might sound monotonous but it was quite enjoyable. Especially once you could get towards the middle where they add all these new sound effects. Really love the beat that goes throughout the sound. Whenever I hear drums like that I just picture someone in their backyard just messing around with household items and banging on them. The ending was my favorite part. It slowly gets more soothing and you really feel the stress melt away from your mind. Good pick.
-
I see you're a Nujabes fan. The song somewhat reminds me of his work. To be honest I didn't like the woman's vocals too much, kind of ruined the flow of it for me, but besides that the whole song is pretty tight. I love sax so that made it even greater for me. Definitely downloading it later. What else can I say, nice beat, good lyrics. Overall, pretty top notch. Nice, Hawkeye.
How about some Argentinean (sp?) rock.
Ignore the first part. Skip to 0: 48. Low quality, but this is all I could find. I uploaded the live version from their 2007 reunion tour around the Americas, since they're songs IMHO sound so much better live. Much more passion and emotion. Better sound, even, considering the original came out in 1988.
It's a shame the lead guitarist/singer/songwriter, Gustavo Cerati, is in a coma right now. Me and millions of his other fans pray for him daily. Such a great talent will be missed if he never wakes up.. He may not remain the same but still.
-
For most songs I try to avoid live songs because I find the sound quality to be lacking compared to cd versions but this was pretty good. Can't just the lyrical side of this song but the actually musical was pretty good. Basic rock song- good guitars, good drums, decent enough voice, but there is something that really gives this song a unique quality. I guess it is the overall atmosphere or vibe this song gives out. Can't really stick my finger on it, but, ignoring language barrier, this song really had smiling and in a good mood by the end.
-
Jazz and Hip Hop working together quite nicely. I heard it a coulple more times and I like it. :)
-
Love, nice pure rock songs like this. Nothing extremely extraordinary about it, but all parts of the song work so well together that it can't help but collectively become a truly good song. Did I say there wasn't anything extraordinary? Ths guys voice works perfectly with this type of song. Somewhat rough but really soft and relaxing at the same time. The drums and guitar were both really good. All in all this was good pick. Solid band.
I've been wanting to post some more this guy for months but I already picked two songs by him so I felt like I had to choose some new people, but this guy is probably my favorite rapper right now. Sick flow.
-
Nice old school type hip hop. Although i enjoy hip hop these days i'm into club music
-
Pretty good. Had an exciting, funky tune that actually sounded like something out of a video game. I could really see myself jamming to that beat. However, I must confess that I did NOT like the singer's voice. Maybe it's just me, but it sounded like they were trying to be as androgynous as possible (and not in a Michael Jackson way where it sounds cool and natural). So yeah, unfortunately that really hurts what I think is an otherwise adequately fun song to listen to.
-
Wow that was a really ear-wormy song. The guys voice reminds me of the Arctic monkey, good in my book. As for the instruments there was the Caribbean? part and the nice touch at the end. So overall awesomeness.
I don't think I've posted Seeed before, have I?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Edit I think I have posted Seeed before... Too bad you can't go back and look at the old songs anymore ^^
-
That was one of the most original (really weird) videos I've seen. I like reggae, dancehall not so much, I really didn't understand the parts sung in German and I'm not sure how to criticize this kind of genre, but the video made the song interesting enough to finish listening to it and for me to look up some of the their other videos, it's funny how they come up with really strange ideas and costumes every time.
–-------------------------------------------------------------
-
The singer's voice sounds slightly forced to me, maybe because her tone is not something I'm accustomed to. The accompanying music on the other hand sounds a lot more natural. The combination seems somewht mystical to me, intriguing and good to hear to, though not something I'd consider mind-blowing.
-
I think this is one of the few occasions in this thread that someone has posted a song by an artist that I am already familiar with. He did a lot of stuff with Slum Village back in the 90s. Anyway…
Man this guy has a smooth ass voice. This song had such a good rhythm and the flow just had my head bobbing all over the place. The way he sings throughout the song just matches with the music so perfectly. Angelo really had incredible music sense. Really love soulful songs like this. Near the end when the people started clapping and then disk scratching came in was just icing on the cake. Good pick right here.
-
Very nice and smooth, good flow, when was that song written?
-
I really, really did not want to review this song since I have heard it so many times, and wanted someone else to experience it but I think I have waited enough. I'll say this now rather than later. I like both versions of the song. It really has to do with taste preference. What kind of beats do you like more. The soft, smooth flow of Nujabes or the very distinct guitar instrumental one that Fat Jon made(for some reason I remember I different version for Fat Jon but that may have been a remix as well). Either way I do feel that Nujabes actually exceeds that original in terms of matching the rapping with the beats.
Anyway for the song. Feels really weird reviewing a Nujabes song. I have been listening to them for so long and just naturally began to love them without giving the actual music much critical analysis. This is gonna be fun. Oh man do I love the Five Deez. Each of their raps are so different and distinct and at the same time the group just fits so well together, Truly I really enjoyed the flow, the lyrics, their voices, all of it. What can I say for Nujabes. I don't were he sampled the "side to side" bit, but it really is such a good piece to put into this song. Him scratching to that as his msuic was in the background really gives this song such a distinct flavor compared to so many other rap songs. Man this song just makes me smile and just want to look into the sky and daydream. The video fits really well too.
-
I have not greeted this thread in a while.
Interesting song, in that the lyrical conflicts so directly with the melody. Does it work? I need a bit of distance for that. On one hand the disconnect is nice and evokes strange emotion. The overall mix is nice and the vocals flow well. It sounds really good and it works, but I can't help but feel that he could have gone further in either direction. I tend to put lyrics to the side when I first listen to music, but here it does have a profound effect. If it had been more sincere or more violent, I think it could have evoked a lot more. A pretty solid track by itself, though.
-
Hmm, I remember listening to and critiquing a another song on this thread quite similar to this one, perhaps by the same artist (and perhaps also posted by you Wagomu. Not sure). Anyway, it's strange, the singer appears to be singing, but also talking at the same time. It certainly is quite chaotic in that it doesn't appear to have rhythm or structure, which, I suppose, suits the subject matter of the song. But yeah, the song just seems to encompass pure rage and sadness, which I guess works if you're in that kind of a mood. Is it for me? Well, at first listen, not really, but I didn't hate it, and I can definitely see myself listening to it again.
-
Classic Abba rhythm, It´s difficult to notice the chorus (it seems chaotic and suddenly becomes quiet).
One thing I didn´t liked was the variance of tone.
Another thing, it was easy to get lost in the lyrics. -
Alright, Nação Zumbi, it's a good song. I like listening to songs in languages I don't understand. Makes you listen to the vocals in a different way. I also dislike to a listen to song in a language i don't understand, you know, not having a clue what they are saying…
Anyway. The singing sounds... cool, can't find a better word for it. What stands out most is that guitar riff in the beginning. I've really got it stuck in my mind-area. I keep thinking I've heard it somewhere else though.
Summation: -
I've got mixed feelings about this one. At first I liked how there is the audio illusion that you only hear the guy who last started playing while the rest of them fade into the background. Then I though they take quite long for the transitions. More rapid changes could make the whole thing a bit more interesting. And then I realized they are more of less on repeat. There was an element of predicability to how the song would continue from a certain point on. That's what I didn't like so much.
-
Wow. I actually really liked this song. The instrumentals were dark and rapid, the lead singer and back-up singers' voices were creepy, and it all came together to really capture the a sense of foreboding rebellion and destruction. Honestly, I just love a song that can elicit some kind of emotion out of the listener, and this song certainly did that. Also, I love that I song can have such a dark feel to it without the singer screaming their lungs out or about how much they hate everything. Not to mention it was perfectly paced and lasted just as long as it needed to. I'm really tempted to add this song to my playlist.
-
I never listened to The Might Be Giants too seriously, though obviously they're a big group. I've definitely heard this song before in my travels through the musical world. It's got a nice upbeat feel somewhat reminiscent of British Invasion era music. This is probably good sunny day music (though my current weather situation conflicts with this, haha). I also appreciate the silly nonsense of the song that keeps it lighthearted. There isn't much depth to the music, though. That isn't a big problem, but it doesn't help the song stand out. It doesn't go anywhere and is a bit boring in that respect, but the music isn't anything that yearns for complexity. I can definitely appreciate it for being fun, simple music.
On the other side of the emotional spectrum…
-
I wasn't gonna review this at first, and was all like "pfff this is depressing and stuff and I'm not gonna review this". But after listening to it a couple of times… I still think it's depressing as all hell, but also that there is some slowy, hardcore, goodness in there. Can't make out a word what the singer is saying, guessing it's not about cuddly bunnys... Maybe... Bunnys cought in a foothold trap . And a ticking timebomb strapped to it's back.
Summation: :ermm:->:cheerful: -
This one really took me by surprise. As soon as I heard the guitar, I expected some whiny vocals to come in. I'm all for instrumental tracks, especially ones like this.
Now, here's one I came up with while browsing for 80's songs. After coming listening to the Samantha Fox version, I saw the original in the suggestions.
