Gyahhhh, another cute and super cool chapter, I'm really loving Magico. The family theme can get so funny, haha, loved it, really, really.
The magic system is cool and I believe they rank the mages as "ok he can do this rank ritual so he is this rank or more if he can do more". And I bet there are others black mages out there and I also believe Zodia may aswell end up as an ally of Shion in a far far away future even if it sounds a bit cliche.
I loved the twist with Emma being a gambling goddess, hahahaha, well done.
For now I believe that we have to get a "motives for the great war" insight to get a really high first-notion of the Magico world but that may be just left to be talked about really later but I doubt so since Naoki already foreshadowed it so soon so I don't expect him to take longer than a year to tell us about it, probably a lot less than that.

New chapter is out
! I enjoyed it a lot. Old man's true form is pretty awesome, and its cool that by artificially increasing the difficulty of a ritual you can increase its power
-
Excellent chapter! The old man is awesome! But im just wondering if after every big fight, Shion is going to come back for a refill in his broom magic.
-
Anyone else think that by beating that one big monster, Shion "accidentally" completed another ritual and gained a new power?
-
@Uncle:

Dude we must be on the same wavelength, I thought the same thing.
But yeah, another fantastic chapter. Y'know earlier I thought this cutesy stuff would get old but it's actually starting to grow on me. This was an adorable chapter~
-
Waaaaah, another great chapter and WOW, the next will have 33 pages and color center!!!
For your guys question, he didn't defeat that monster, just scared the out of it. Check it there.
I really loved the fact you can get stronger powers by increasing the difficulty of the ritual and I don't believe he'll have to remake his broom magic after each big fight, I think it is tougher then before now, for sure.
I love the cute scenes, everything, Magico is really awesome and a great weekly read. -
The tip here is that the old man refers to the monster as being part of a ritual. He may not have defeated it but there's nothing saying that defeating it is part of whatever ritual it belongs to. On the contrary, taming it might be the ritual.
Anyways, it was just a passing observation.

In any case, it's a good way to show a new move/power later on and not make it seem like a total asspull. And yeah, I agree with RPGJay, I thought the lovey-dovey will get tiring after a while, but instead it just seems sweeter somehow. Shion is really badass too, such is the power of love….
-
warming up to this. so far, we've seen shion as strong without magic, hope it doesn't disappoint.

Chapter 14 is out http://manga.redhawkscans.com/?manga=Magico&chapter=Magico+014#page=1
! SICK chapter, really awesome, gawwwwd I loved it, 35 pages!!! I bet the author totally exhausted himself doing it.
The settings are great, the characters involved are great, I totally loved Lily and Rogue, I'd hope they both join Shion but that may be far-fetched since they have obligations but who knows… people can live without her too, other cities do I'm sure.
I liked the "flamist" archetype and the "pralines blessing". Magico is soooooo cool. All the reasons involved are nice too. I'm so hyped up for the next chapter. Nice ending twist with the priest being the villan, I wonder if he's Kuro-like, planning over some years before, etc.
Anyway, excelent chapter! -
Good chapter, but I'm not a big fan on this new character, Rogue. He has a cool design and all, but I hate these kind of impulsive morons who pick fights for no reason. I'll give him a few chapters to see if he'll wisen up somewhat.
Otherwise this was a pretty cool chapter.
-
my first impression of rogue: is that horohoro from shanan king?
-
Nice long chapter. Another types of magic were introduced. Rouge's character design is awesome but like Jay, I don't like those types of character too. But I think Iwamoto will back him up with a nice backstory to be more likeable. Nice twist there in the end. The world Iwamoto already built is very wide that it's impossible for him to run out of material to write in the next 50+ chapters.
-
my first impression of rogue: is that horohoro from shaman king?
Hahahahah, YES! That's exactly who I was thinking of.
-
The irony is that their elemental powers are opposite.
-
Man, I am getting all sorts of good vibes from this manga. I really like the "team-building" parts of a manga, where they are in the early stages and every strong person they meet could become their friend and travel with them (east blue from one piece, early bobobo, early bleach, etc) and this chapter delivers that.
I like Rogue's design, and how his personality could act as a foil for Shion. I hope he sticks around, personally.

Chapter 15 is out
http://manga.redhawkscans.com/?manga=Magico&chapter=Magico+015#page=2 -
Cool chapter. Like the combination attack planned by Shion. Next chapter should be the continuation of the fight, don't think that priest is that too much of a fodder.
Random thought, I remembered Dr. Hiluluk in Rogue's naked scence.
-
Alright chapter. I liked the combo attack at the end.
-
Cool chapter, I didn't like the fact that Lily gave the words out… I hope it isn't set in stone yet.
The combo attack was pretty cool. -
Fine chapter. I agree that the combo attack was cool but I don't see why they couldn't have used it earlier.
-
Shion already explained it.
He had to avoid the tentacles and set the attack up first.
-
I read the first chapter of this.
It didn't impress me at first, but I like how unconventional the premise is, despite it being a generic magic setting. My only complaint thus far is Shion needs to be more forthright with his feelings. I'm too used to seeing apprehensive and indecisive guys, I'd like to see a kid like him much more honest with himself so his marriage matures.
Here's my reasoning. He's spent 10 years trying to be a mage just to save this girl. His feelings couldn't be anymore clear. So why he'd try to supress those feelings kind of bugs me. It's like working to earn a cake, then not eating it because you're embarassed you worked so hard for it.

Chapter 16 is out by MRI.
-
"Scissors I win".
-
It'll be nice to finally see a decent match, that is… provided these 3 Magi Brothers are worth a damn. They got all hyped up and everything so I'm hoping they deliver and we won't just see a steamroll again.
Still, I'm enjoying the series so far.~

Chapter 17 by MRI is out.
Also, first volume cover on sale this July :
[hide][/hide]! Is it just me or Emma just looks like cosplaying Tifa Lockheart in that chapter cover?
-
The link you posted isn't working.
-
The cover looks nice.
-
-
Well as for actual thoughts on this chapter.
! Redirecting a wind with your sword is pretty manly.
-
! The fight was pretty cool but I don't know, it felt a bit stupid to me. o_o
I guess I find the whole setup to be showing up way too fast, with the brothers popping up with those three sacred garments and just making Shion show up to fight. It just seems weird to me. Overall I liked the chapter. -
Yeah, it does feel a bit fast. Mages appear, go "We want to fight you, friend", Shion goes "I'm not your friend, guys", they fight, first one down, and Shion is already wasted and using his ultimate weapon from the last fight. But, on the other hand, situation is a bit interesting. The weakest of the three enemies is beaten, and the two stronger ones remain. Shion can't expect any deus x machinae help form the outside. So, he has to do eevrything by himself.
And the fast pacing is probably due to the strict Jump system. A newbie such as Magico has to constantly through flashy things at the reader to stay afloat and not fall to the bottom five.
-
It's a formula commonly used in weekly magazines. Monthly magazine writers have much less pressure upon them.
-
I like how it was made a point that if Shion fought any of the three brothers individually he would win but in this case he has to fight all three of them consecutively. So now he's bound to struggle and is in for a really difficult fight.
Though… This also begs the question why the three brothers didn't just jump him.
-

I think because of the bet, they have an strange moral system i suppose. They already said that they will give Shion the cloth if they loose, not your tipical villain. And they did attack him right away when he enter the arena so there is that too.
About the situations being so rush i think the author doesn´t have any option, knowing that he need to keep with a good amount of votes or he´s doom. Set up chapters tend to have low rankings. I think he´s treating the series a lot like Toriko does.
-
I'm curious why so many people like this series–I'm not trying to be a dick or condescending here either. I'm legitimately curious why so many people seem to like this manga because every time I look at it I don't see anything special. None of the characters jump out at me as interesting, and the world itself is nice to look at, but nothing special in my eyes. So what is it that people really like about the series? Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk here; I really want to know why people have taken such a liking to this manga. Is it the romance?
-
The fact that the majority of other series are… well, shit.
Magico isn't the greatest story ever, doesn't have the best characters and isn't anything particularly special but it's still a step above shit like Fairy Tail, Bleach and Naruto. The setting is excellent and it has a lot of potential. If it ever takes off then it has a lot of room to work with but if it fails then you can bet your ass we'll be hating on this series just as much as the next.
It's simplistic shounen to a tee. Sometimes that's what people want.
-
I read the first chapter of this series just now.
It's not bad. Not exactly the best, but it feels like Fairy Tail done right. Definitely going to read more.
-
I think I'm reading it mostly because I see a lot of potential in it.
Whether Magico lives up to that or not we'll see.
Though the cutesy love humor annoyed me a litte at first, it really grew on me.
-
For me it has some sort of charm that attracts me I normally only start to read series that I know won't be cancelled in the first chapters but this one I felt something different about it, I hope Im not wrong.

New Chapter is out
! I liked this one. The abilities seem pretty cool, its nice to see that Shion isn't the only one fighting, and that the enemies have tricks up their sleeves. Still the whole wild instincts feels a bit like an asspull unless it means she just decided to guess randomly where to attack and her instincts got it right
-
Aww little Luu D:
So, uh, how does wild instinct make any sense then?
-
Aww little Luu D:
So, uh, how does wild instinct make any sense then?
I asked the same question and the only explanation I could come up with is attacking in a random direction that is decided via sheer instinct. So basically she got lucky. In fairness, One Piece did do something similar with Luffy attacking the real Mr 3 by guessing, even if that situation is less extreme
-
Good chapter, I like this whole family thing they have going on it makes me like these characters more.
-
Yeah, i like also that the "family" is the description for the group. We can assume that we will have an "uncle", a "Grandfather", a "Cousin", something like that. Clearly Lulu is the daugther :P. Nice chapter!
-
I really hate when author's decide to take that "let's hurt this character really bad" route just to "show how bad a villain is" and other motives. It just feels totally unecessary for me. I know it also is to make us hate the villains more, but I hope you get my point… and yes, I want all the three weirdos dead.
Apart from that, good chapter, even though everything still feels way too all of a sudden for me.
Luu's powers are troublesome, I imagine if someday she gets to hit something a thousand times, eh.
I hope Emma can learn some form of magic soon, maybe with a protective approach, like some energy shield, etc. -
So Shion is the "father", Enma the "mother" and Luu the "daughter". I'm growing curious at who will be the "grandpa"…
Good chapter, very fast paced, like early chapters tend to be.

Technically, "uncles" and "cousins" are actually the "parents" and "children" of a second family related with the first, so if anything those would be Rogue and Lily.
-
Wouldn't the grandpa be the ritual guy we already met
